Im Nachgang haben wir dies nachgeschlagen und lassen hier die Korrektur folgen: Gorbatschow wurde 1985 Generalsekretär des Zentralkomitees der KPdSU in der Sowjetunion. The Christmas Podcast 2024 is now available. Myself and Martin Scott have recorded a special festive podcast for you to enjoy over this Christmas week. 2010 gründet Thorsten Riewesell im kleinen Kreis die christliche Initiative "Jumpers - Jugend mit Perspektive" in seinem Wohnzimmer. Elf Jahre später, 2021, steht er auf der Bühne der Preisverleihung der vom Burda-Verlag und MDR ausgelobten Preisverleihung der "Goldenen Henne" und nimmt eine solche in der Kategorie "Charity" entgegen. 2024 betreibt Jumpers christliche Kinder- und Jugendarbeit mit einer deutlichen sozialen Herangehensweise an 13 Standorten in ganz Deutschland. Was gelingt Jumpers, dass die Initiative ein solch schnelles Wachstum erleben konnte?Thorsten Riewesell berichtet vom "Mut, aufs Wasser hinaus zu gehen" und ebenfalls davon, dass er nicht von der Überzeugung für evangelisierende Wortverkündigung weggerückt sei - dass Jumpers eben nur eine andere Zielgruppe in den Blick genommen hätte, als er das bis 2010 aus christlicher Jugendarbeit häufig gewohnt war und, deshalb, eine andere Herangehensweise gewählt habe. Andreas Schlamm ist vielleicht das, was man von weitem einen "Kirchenfunktionär" nennen würde. About six years ago, I received a request for an interview from an academic in the United Kingdom named Martin Scott who was doing journalism related research. That interview helped to inform the new book: "Humanitarian Journalists: Covering Crises from a Boundary Zone" by Martin Scott, and coauthors Mel Bunce, and Kate Wright -- all of whom are academics.  The book identifies and defines what the authors call "humanitarian journalism" which combines conventional journalistic norms like objectivity with certain key humanitarian principals like the moral equivalence of all lives, regardless of geography. The book explicitly cites my work, as well as that of a small number of other journalists who do what they called humanitarian journalism. I talk with Martin Scott, Associate Professor in Media and Global Development at the University of East Anglia about the concept and practice of "humanitarian journalism."

Dr. Scott Small has dedicated his career to understanding why memory forsakes us. As director of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Columbia University, he focuses largely on patients who experience pathological forgetting, and it is in contrast to their suffering that normal forgetting, which we experience every day, appears in sharp relief. Until recently, most everyone—memory scientists included—believed that forgetting served no purpose. But new research in psychology, neurobiology, medicine, and computer science tells a different story. Forgetting is not a failure of our minds. It's not even a benign glitch. It is, in fact, good for us—and, alongside memory, it is a required function for our minds to work best. Forgetting benefits our cognitive and creative abilities, emotional well-being, and even our personal and societal health. As frustrating as a typical lapse can be, it's precisely what opens up our minds to making better decisions, experiencing joy and relationships, and flourishing artistically.
