My guest Marlee Liss made history in the justice system when she fought for her sexual assault case to become the 1st in North America to conclude with restorative justice through the courts, instead of sending her assaulter to jail. In this episode, Marlee and I break down the problem with the current prison system and what else is possible. The idea of imprisonment, while preventing some people from even committing a crime in the first place, can also breed more suffering in our communities due to the consequences of the legal procedures themselves. The punitive system has a way of locking patterns of violence into communities without room for change, perpetuating trauma throughout society. Modern punitive processes tend to focus on the person who committed the crime and turn away from all else who were impacted by the event. Restorative justice is an alternative approach to prison in the legal system that includes healing for all involved. It is a process that seeks to repair harm by providing an opportunity for those harmed and those who take responsibility for the harm, to communicate about and address their needs in the aftermath of a crime. Not only is there an opportunity for healing the wounds that came as a result of the crime, but also for the pain that led to the crime being committed in the first place. Her message of supporting the brain and behaviors without medication as the first alternative was exactly what Kris needed to hear. Dawn brings the ladies back together to continue the conversation of destigmatizing mental health in their own journey together. While providers repeat the same treatments with medications again and again, people like Kris, are looking for a better outcome. They'll tell us about the brain map and how it can be used to rewire the brain. They'll explain how neuroclinical treatments like neurofeedback and biofeedback work in conjunction with other mental wellness support modalities. It is important to not only calm the brain down when it starts to spiral, but also to teach the brain how to change. Dr. Ro says, “a regulated brain is the only brain that can learn new behaviors”. Do you consider yourself a creator or an integrator? How did you create a business plan and launch your brand? How do you bring miracles into your life?   Guest Bio: “Never leave the house without wearing your sparkling earrings – they will serve as reminders of the light within.” Those are words Lia Valencia Key's mother would always say to her. Lia lost her mother at an early age but those beautiful words never left Lia's heart. Raised in very humble beginnings in a super-impoverished neighborhood of Philadelphia, Lia Valencia Key lived in a homeless shelter with her mother, sister, and brother. Even in such dark times her mom told her, "Your predicament does not determine your destiny." Lia went on to rise above her challenges by radiating light, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Business, master's degree in Education, a cosmetology instructor's license, becoming a global hair & makeup artist, receiving a United States patent, and then moving onward to create Valencia Key Jewelry: wearable joy that symbolizes that all things are possible. If you can believe it, you can achieve it! Each piece was created to inspire and unlock the bravery and light within.  Lia's Valencia Key Jewelry launched on QVC, one of the largest television shopping networks in the world. With the power of believing, Lia went from homelessness to inspiring through jewelry in over 100 million homes. And big dreams continue to come true. My guest today is Debby Montgomery Johnson who has an amazing story about being scammed online, and it certainly makes for an interesting interview to release over Valentine's weekend!Instead of being crippled with shame and not talking about her experience however, - something that women tend to do - Debby bravely wrote her best selling book "The Woman behind the Smile." The result of her sharing her story? She has become a sought after speaker, with appearances on “The Dr. Oz Show”, CBS This Morning, The Mel Robbins Show, The Tamron Hall Show, WPEC CBS Channel 12 and WPTV NBC Channel 5, in addition to being featured in the Palm Beach Post. She is regularly called upon by reporters for expert commentary about relationship fraud. Debby shares her personal experience with a love that turned into betrayal and financial disaster, (she lost over 1 million dollars over a 2 year period) and she removes the mask of shame and shows others how to do the same. Many of us have something we're hiding, something we're ashamed of, something that through no fault of our own or through our own making keeps us hidden from each other and the world.Listen in, subscribe and share so that other women can learn what signs to look out for and be encouraged to live authentically, free from shame! You can find Debby here: https://thewomanbehindthesmile.com/If you think that someone you love is being scammed, go here: https://anyscam.com/Have you been the victim of a scammer?
