West Auckland social services charity the Waipareira Trust and chief executive John Tamihere have reached their deadline to settle an outstanding loan. $385,307 was taken from the Trust to pay for John Tamihere's mayoral campaign and Te Pāti Māori's general election campaign- in breach of the law. NZ Herald reporter Matt Nippert says this investigation has been ongoing since the end of 2019- and Tamihere is running out of options. "It's got the nuclear option- deregistration. Which effectively strips an entity of its charitable status and it has to pay tax again. They also get levied a tax across their net assets." The 2023 Cincinnati Bearcats may not have an expectation to win a certain number of games, but there is still a palpable buzz heading into their first Power Five season. You never know.Something else that happened in 2009 in Cincinnati is also sparking reason for optimism for the upcoming season. If the makeup of this year's Cincinnati Bearcats team can be like the 2009 Bengals who won the AFC North, this year's Bearcats team could be pretty good team.Speaking of the Bengals, Boomer Esiason and Chad Johnson were announced as the new Ring of Honor inductees. Who should be the next players inducted into the Nippert Satdium Ring of Honor? Physical:100, the smash hit South Korean Netflix series kept me and my family glued to the sofa. We couldn't blink or breathe as the gruelling challenges pitted contestants against each other, all with a chance to win a huge sum. But, to me, it wasn't the cash prize that drove these contestants but the endorphins as the game progressed and challenges got harder. If you haven't seen it, athletes such wrestlers, MMA, gymnasts, Olympians and influencers competed in this show all with different abilities, strengths and focus. One contestant, Dustin Nippert, an American baseball player forged ahead in the series. I'm so thrilled he agreed to a podcast for The Mighty Dragon. We talk about what expectations he had about the show, the types of contestants who would navigate the challenges the best and how this show would be perceived elsewhere. We touch upon South Korean culture too, I was moved by the respect the contestants held for each other and interacted. Let's just say I can't wait for the second series! Big thanks to Dustin for this opportunity and for the Orlando baseball recommendations! I'll go and see my first baseball match(?) or do you say game?!

A., Jordan, C. E., Gardner, A. S., Nair, R. V., Tawfik, V. L. Abstract: Microglia contribute to the initiation of pain, however, a translationally viable approach addressing how or when to modulate these cells remains elusive. We used a targeted, inducible genetic microglial depletion strategy at both the acute and acute-to-chronic transition phases in the clinically-relevant tibial fracture/casting model to determine the contribution of microglia to the initiation and maintenance of pain. We observed complete resolution of pain after transient microglial depletion at the acute-to-chronic phase, which coincided with the timeframe of full repopulation of microglia. These repopulated microglia were morphologically distinct from control microglia, suggesting they may exhibit a unique transcriptome. RNA sequencing of repopulated spinal cord microglia identified genes of interest using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). We intersected these genes with a newly-generated single nuclei microglial dataset from human dorsal horn spinal cord to identify human-relevant genes that may promote homeostatic features of microglia and ultimately promote pain resolution after injury. Locked On Bearcats - Daily Podcast on Cincinnati Bearcats Football & Basketball
Nippert Stadium is one of the oldest stadiums in College Football. But after the Bengals sold their naming rights to Paul Brown Stadium, should the University of Cincinnati sell naming rights to Nippert Stadium? There is a lot of momentum surrounding the Cincinnati Bearcats football program, and selling naming rights could be exactly what the University needs heading into the Big 12. To compete with the blue bloods in College Football on a financial level, the Cincinnati Bearcats are going to need every resource they can get. One of those resources is selling naming rights to a Cincinnati company that can pump money into the program. On the other hand, most iconic stadiums in college football don't have their stadium naming rights sold. And considering Nippert Stadium is part of the University of Cincinnati conscience, it might be messing with tradition to sell the naming rights. And considering Nippert Stadium is part of the University of Cincinnati conscience, it might be messing with tradition to sell the naming rights.Find Locked On Bearcats on your favorite podcast platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/locked-on-bearcats-daily-podcast-on-cincinnati-bearcats/id1600132108 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/50LUo2h1xoJFIWBv6KrUJS?si=db84b6a4edc142f8 Stitcher: https://listen.stitcher.com/yvap/?af_dp=stitcher://show/671454&af_web_dp=https://www.stitcher.com/show/671454 Alex Frank uses his experiences and connections from his days as Sports Director of the University of Cincinnati's Bearcast Media into Locked On Bearcats. Locked On Bearcats - Daily Podcast on Cincinnati Bearcats Football & Basketball
Nippert Stadium expansion is a hot topic around the Cincinnati Bearcats, but does it need to be expanded? Alex is joined by AllBearcats reporter Russ Heltman, and he doesn't think Nippert needs to be expanded as the Cincinnati Bearcats head into the Big 12. Future recruits should be more attracted to the new practice bubble than an expanded Nippert Stadium. The new Big 12 television deal is going to greatly benefit the Cincinnati Bearcats, especially from a basketball standpoint. Russ even thinks a Cincinnati-Kentucky matchup could be a future SEC/Big 12 matchup. Locked On Bearcats - Daily Podcast on Cincinnati Bearcats Football & Basketball
The Cincinnati Bearcats have sold out over 23,000 season tickets for the upcoming season, and that has started the conversation of Nippert Stadium expanding. Alex doesn't think Nippert Stadium needs to expand... for now. He explains how the Cincinnati Bearcats need to sustain their success this year and heading into the Big 12 before an expansion just happens. If the Cincinnati Bearcats ever get to 30,000 season tickets sold out, then expanding Nippert Stadium would be a very real possibility. But as Alex points out, the students- the Ruckus- would have to be the highest priorities in that expansion. For years, brands have relied on brand trackers to help guide their business decisions and overall brand strategy. But with new technology and methodologies on the market, should brand trackers alone still be relied on to provide an accurate depiction of a brand's health? We're taking the Digital Transformation Success podcast LIVE from IIEX Austin. Joining Priscilla McKinney on this episode is Zach Nippert, a tenured entrepreneurial executive and CivicScience President. The two sit down to explore the current state of the market research industry. From consumer behavior insights to brand tracking, Zach and Priscilla discuss the evolution of market research and how digital transformation has accelerated and impacted these advancements. "If companies cared as much about consumer health, consumer data and all of the different factors that are impacting their decisions and their lifestyles as they do about their brand health, they'd start to see this dimensionality of who their audience truly is." - Zach Nippert Tune in to hear how Zach and CivicScience are revolutionizing traditional market research methodologies to provide brands with fast and forward-looking consumer intelligence! It's Week Seven of the college football season, and our very own AJ is back as guest host, this time for his favorite show of the season: The All After-Dark (Even If It's Not Actually Dark Yet) Edition; that's when AJ has free reign to talk about his beloved Group of Five games as much as he wants, not that he doesn't do that as a matter of course anyway. So following a brief look back -- AJ loved the noon slot and the primetime games and the finishes they all seemed to have, while Crappy is feeling guardedly better about his Buckeyes after seeing his second game of the year -- we forge ahead with Small Ball. Cornell's Big Red played Harvard tough on the road, but a late score by the Crimson put the game out of reach -- so close, but Cornell returned to Ithaca at 0-4. The good part? Crappy's nephew got his first play from scrimmage, as a blocking back. Up next for the Big Red is a night tilt at home against a tube of toothpaste. Rather than his standard #GroupOfFiveAfterDark report, AJ took a stab at naming three unranked G5 teams that we should be paying attention to. Hints: He totally cheated on one, and hit up Texas for the other two. *meepmeep* Games? We got games. No. 24 San Diego State at San Jose State (10:30 p.m., CBSSN) In his second stint at San Diego State, Brady Hoke has built a team that's not especially West Coast-y -- but it would make most Midwestern football coaches envious. The Aztecs run the ball, play killer defense and win, to the tune of a 5-0 start. Who else is envious? We're wondering about Jimmy Harbaugh. UCF at No. 3 Cincinnati (Noon, ABC) A few years back, this was THE marquee game on the G5 calendar, but with Knights struggling, this will amount to another chance for the Bearcats to amass the style points they'll likely need to make the playoff. And they're 21-point favorites in Nippert, so, uh, yeah. Hawaii at Nevada (10:30 p.m., CBSSN) This is literally the last game on the weekend schedule, and between the late-night kick and the 61-point o/u, it's the kind of game AJ lives for. Hawaii struggles on the continent, but they did just beat Fresno State. Nevada pretty much doesn't run the football ever. Crappy's prediction? He'll be cheering for the over. Thanks again to AJ for his above-and-beyond contributions over the last two weeks. Enjoy the games this weekend, everyone, and we'll see you -- and a brand new guest host -- back here next week.
Big weekend of football again UC vs Temple at Nippert at night. And then Bengals vs Packers on Sunday let's go!!

In this week's episode, Joe and Caroline talk all about the rich history of Nippert Stadium, home of the University of Cincinnati football team. They talk about who the stadium was named after, some of the game traditions, and their personal experiences at UC games. They also recall their adventures from the previous week, Caroline tells us what is bugging her on Children's TV and Joe tells not one, not two but three dad jokes. What We Are Drinking Caroline's Drink: Witbier Traditional Belgian Wheat Ale West Side Brewing - Westwood, Ohio IBU: 15 ABV: 5.4% “A traditional Belgian-style wheat ale, this pale beer has a white head and aromas of clove, citrus, and coriander. The softly doughy malt flavor comes from the generous use of unmalted wheat and a hint of oats. With no hop aroma and orange peel and coriander, this pairs great with salads, light curries, and more!”Joe's Drink: Peso in my Hand - Mexican Lager Fretboard Brewery - Blue Ash, Ohio IBU: 12 ABV: 4.9%“We got a case of the Mexicali Blues when we came up with this delicious treat. Just add a slice of lime and this beer will take your winter blues away. It's easy-drinking, light and tropical, just like a Mexican Lager should taste. Best served with a side of island music and visions of sandy beaches, Peso in my Hand is sure to be a hit any time of year.”Resources:· University of Cincinnati marching band traditions· Nippert Stadium - Facilities· Nippert Stadium· FC Cincinnati· FC Cincinnati (2016–18)· Complete story of how UC's Nippert Stadium got its namesake· Pre-game audio from the University of Cincinnati Bearcat band was taken from a cell phone video taken by Joe Ludwig.***Thank you so much for listening! In this talk, Dr Christena Nippert-Eng will present work in the early stages of development, that will be her focus while being a visiting Fellow at CRASSH over the next two weeks. The work will build on her interests in privacy and security, social behaviour across species, and the current U.S. political landscape. She will begin the talk by introducing her efforts to date in developing a grammar of camouflage behaviours, motivations, and intentions across species. Moving from the face-to-face realm, she will then examine camouflage behaviours online, zeroing in more specifically on the foundational assumptions and practices that foster the success of fake news and false facts. Like all camouflage behaviours, these depend not only on how well engineered the deception is but also on the target’s need/desire to believe and (immediately or eventually) act on what is perceived. She will conclude with some thoughts on digital deception – and perhaps its exposure -- as a relatively new source of socio-political-economic power. Dr Christena Nippert-Eng is a sociologist and Professor of Informatics at Indiana University Bloomington.
