Nora Freeman Engstrom is a professor of law who says that in three-quarters of cases one or more of the parties lacks legal representation. Worse yet, often the litigants are involved in high-consequence civil cases where there is no right to a lawyer and costs are prohibitive. Some states are looking at alternatives including non-lawyer representation, curated legal help for low-income citizens, and even AI, as Engstrom tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast.Have a question for Russ? Sean "Diddy" Combs Secures Legal Access to Laptop Amid Sex Crime Charges Sean "Diddy" Combs has been granted access to a laptop in jail to review discovery materials as he prepares for his trial on federal sex crime charges. The decision comes after Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs' bail for the third time, citing concerns about potential witness tampering. Defense attorneys advocated for Combs' access to the laptop following the bail denial. On Thursday, Subramanian ruled that the Bad Boy Records founder could use a laptop pre-loaded with discovery materials in his unit at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The device, however, will be strictly limited in functionality. According to Subramanian's order, the laptop will only allow viewing of materials and cannot be used for note-taking or storage. The order mandates that Combs must be given access to the laptop "seven days per week from 8:00 AM to 3:30 p.m." Any additional access will require coordination with the government, and disputes will be resolved by the court. The charges against Combs, filed in September in Manhattan federal court, include sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors allege that Combs orchestrated elaborate "freak offs," involving male sex workers and women who were coerced or forced into participating. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The high-profile case is slated for trial in May 2025. Meanwhile, legal challenges for Combs continue to mount. On Thursday, three anonymous males filed new lawsuits in New York Supreme Court, accusing the music mogul of sexual assault. The allegations and legal proceedings are the latest developments in a case that has drawn significant public attention. The trial will likely examine claims about the operation of Combs' business empire and its alleged involvement in criminal activities. #SeanCombs #LegalAccess #SexTraffickingCase #DiddyTrial #BrooklynDetention #FederalCharges #CelebrityNews Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? I don't know about YOU but I am GRATEFUL for the REDEMPTIVE blood of JESUS! Hebrews 12:24 states that JESUS blood speaks better things than any SIN we've committed. When studying words in the Bible, you'll find many are used in the court of law! Meaning the devil is always trying to build a CASE against US to show God why he should have LEGAL ACCESS to wreak havoc in our lives! However, I've come to REPORT the BEST news. Those of us who REPENT and are under the NEW blood COVENANT with JESUS; God renders a VERDICT of “FORGIVEN” or “JUSTIFIED,” meaning like it never happened! This is the greatest gift from God that we could ever have.

"More guns equal less crime" is perhaps one of the most pervasive myths in the United States; the reality is, firearms simply don't make us safer. This false data has since been used as justification in any number of laws, and is frequency referenced in gun lobby rhetoric. It's also been used as the basis for other false (yet popular) claims, like the myth that shooters choose "gun free zones" to commit their crimes. Hosts Kelly and JJ were joined by Dr. John Donohue (C. Wendell and Edith M. This week I'm sharing a wonderful conversation with Lana Kleinman, the ED of Charleston Legal Access. I have a special place in my heart for this conversation because Lana and I got to bond a bit over the mission of her organization - expanding access to legal advocacy and justice to those who can't afford it. They are a nonprofit law firm and, as Lana describes, their unique and powerful focus is on people who don't qualify for legal aid or legal services, but who can't afford access to a private attorney. Lana and I talk big picture about what it really means o run an organization that operationalizes access to justice, and more personally, about her experience stepping into the ED role in a new city, and navigating COVID. This conversation bridges the personal and practical, and I hope you enjoy!

Despite a mounting need for self-defense, the law stands. Overall crime is up 60 percent since last year, and the city has been rocked by a slew of hate crimes, subway shovings, and heinous murders in recent months.Meanwhile, New Yorkers desperate to defend themselves are being forced to jump through hoops to buy mace. In April, a group handing out pepper spray to women and the elderly in Chinatown attracted a line spanning blocks along Mulberry Street. A total of 550 canisters were snapped up in just 30 minutes. When the barista at my local coffee shop asked me where I got my mace keychain, she was disappointed to hear it required a Jersey ZIP code.LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for new videos everyday. https://bit.ly/3KBUDSK

January 06, 2022 Daily Devotion: "Legal Access To The Dimension Of The Spirit..." Hebrews 11:1-2 The Passion Translation 11 Now faith brings our hopes into reality and becomes the foundation needed to acquire the things we long for. It is all the evidence required to prove what is still unseen. 2 This testimony of faith is what previous generations were commended for. Faith is the door through which God accesses the earth, and the way by which we have access to Heaven. We cannot enter eternity with our physical senses; that is why we need the faith that was given to us when we were born again. Faith serves to gain legal access to the dimension of the Spirit, and rule the earth from there. Romans 12:3 says that God has given us “a measure of faith” to interact with the spiritual world. What is faith? Faith is, “The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Faith originates in heaven, that is why it operates above and beyond the natural world. The measure of faith we receive is a portion of God's supernatural faith. When Jesus speaks to His disciples in Mark 11:22, “…Have faith in God,” what He is truly saying is to have the faith that belongs to God. He gave us faith so that we could have legal entry to the world to the eternal. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gerzon-etino/message

Las Vegas Raiders football coach Jon Gruden resigned last week after the New York Times reported on emails he sent in which he made homophobic and misogynistic comments. This came after racist statements Gruden made about a union leader. Some of the emails were sent from his private account. Guest host Scott Fybush leads a conversation in which we discuss just how much employers have legal access to when it comes to workers' emails, whether from company accounts or private accounts. What about other work communication? And we explore the claims of Gruden's supporters, who say that these comments were made long enough ago not to matter anymore. TheraPsil is a non-profit coalition of healthcare professionals, patients, and advocates dedicated to obtaining legal access to psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for Canadians. This was the first time that a personal application for psilocybin therapy was approved in Canada since it was made illegal in 1974. In today's episode, we interview Spencer Hawkswell, TheraPsil's Chief Executive Officer, and discuss everything from the organization's inception through to the scientific, moral, and legal arguments in favor of expanding access to psilocybin in Canada. In 2015, the husband-and-wife team of James Jones Jr. and Kristina Jones founded Court Buddy, a service that matches consumers with vetted lawyers at affordable prices. Last November, the couple stepped aside from the business to pursue other interests. In their time running the company, they had raised $7.1 million and won numerous awards and honors. Achieving success as a legal tech startup is notable in itself, but James and Kristina Jones also were among the few Black founders in an industry with a striking diversity problem. One survey of the legal tech industry found that only 2.3% of founders were Black and 3.1% were Latinx. Among the milestones they achieved, Court Buddy was named the winner of the American Bar Association’s Brown Select Award for Legal Access in 2017, a winner of the inaugural American Entrepreneurship Award in 2016, and a winner of a Webby Award in 2018. When they raised their first financing round in 2017, Kristina was recognized as only the 14th African-American woman ever to raise $1 million or more. Last year, Black Enterprise named the couple as its Techpreneurs of the Year. In this episode of LawNext, James Jones, a former practicing lawyer, joins host Bob Ambrogi to share their story of starting, building and ultimately stepping away from Court Buddy, and of how being a Black entrepreneur in legal tech presented certain obstacles he otherwise would not have encountered. Fred Rooney's work in the development of post-graduate legal education and the powerful incubator that he began in 2007 are forcing law schools to rethink their responsibility to their graduates and to the millions of individuals in the US who lack access to justice. Ilene Seidman is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Clinical Professor of Law at Suffolk University Law School. Under Ilene's guidance, Suffolk's Accelerator to Practice program won the ABA's Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access in 2016. Dan Linna is the director of LegalRnD, The Center for Legal Services Innovation at Michigan State University College of Law. Margaret Hagan launched a program for legal tech and design while a fellow at the Institute of Design. Special thanks to our sponsors Amicus Attorney and Scorpion.
Physical Legal Access to Land (CFFL 0062) Jack Butala: Physical Legal Access to Land. Every single month we give away a property for free. It's super simple to qualify. Two simple steps. Leave us your feedback for this podcast on iTunes and number two, get the free ebook at landacademy.com, you don't even have to read it. Thanks for listening. Jill DeWit: You should do that. If anybody hears any clicking right now, yeah, I just wanted you to know that we have a photographer in the room with us, and I am sucking my stomach in and it's killing me. Jack Butala: You know we're rolling? Jill DeWit: Oh. Jack Butala: It's not her stomach that she's worried about, it's mine. Jill DeWit: Whoops. Jack Butala: Jill worries about my stomach right here. Jack Butala here from Land Academy, welcome to the cash flow from land show. In this episode, Jill and I talk about a question each of us answer every single week, if not every single day, in my case. What is [inaudible 00:00:35] physical, and legal access in real estate, and does it really matter? Jill, I'm so glad we're doing this show. Hopefully we can- Jill DeWit: All the time. Jack Butala: Hopefully today we can really answer this once and for all, not really. Jill DeWit: Exactly. Could we just say, "Refer to podcast number 62"? Jack Butala: Yeah, oh that's not a bad idea. Jill DeWit: Hey, I'm going to put that at the bottom of my email address. For questions about ebay, refer to this podcast. For questions about legal access, refer to this podcast. Jack Butala: Right? Right, to hear us fail, go to this podcast, episode, whatever this is. Jill DeWit: That's right. My most embarrassing moment, listen to this podcast. Jack Butala: No, in all seriousness, we do a lot of horsing around in shows, but this show, I think is actually, it's extremely beneficial, so let me start this way. Wherever you live, you live in an apartment building, or you live in a townhouse, or a condo, or house. You drive right up to it, and take your groceries out, and put it in the, take it into the kitchen. Jill DeWit: Correct. Jack Butala: That's access. Jill DeWit: That's access. Jack Butala: That's accessing a parcel of real estate on county roads, or whatever. I find that when I describe it that way, and everybody says, "Oh, that's what it is." Jill DeWit: That's a good ... I like your ... Jack Butala: Wherever you live, you probably have physical or legal access. When you're buying properties, rural properties that are, specifically when they're unwanted, or they have bad taxes, or kind of this, what we do for a living, what Jill and I do, you have to check that stuff. You have to check if there's physical or legal access, so if you've got a 40-acre property that's, let's say in the middle of a northern county up in Arizona, or any state for that matter, you want to make sure that at least, at the very bare minimum, you want to know the facts. Jill DeWit: Mm-hmm (affirmative). Jack Butala: Can you get to it legally? Can you see it, sort of on a plat map? Does it have legal access, and can you drive right up to it? I don't know, Jill, tell us a funny story about some customer that, or, you buy property every day, do you know how do you check ... Let's start with this, how do you check physical and legal access before you pull the trigger on an acquisition? Jill DeWit: This is a show where I'm asking you the questions.

If it is to live up to its own values, the EU needs to step up search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean and open up legal means for access to protection in Europe in order to avoid the need for risky journeys across the Mediterranean.
From the archives at www.livingwealthyradio.com Many people don't come to grips with the reality of the astronomical cost of legal counsel in America until they find themselves involved in a lawsuit, get an unfair traffic ticket, or need to resolve a complex family issue. The reality is that you stand a very great chance of becoming involved in a legal dispute or lawsuit at least once in your life. The financial implications of these situations are huge sometimes resulting in financial hardship, the loss of a home, marital strife, or damage to reputation. What if you had a way to inexpensively enlist the services of a top-notch attorney whenever the need arose, to assist you with everything from basic legal documents to criminal cases? Larry Smith is a veteran entrepreneur and business leader who has discovered just that. Larry's personal trials and challenges led him to join a company that provides top quality legal assistance to ordinary Americans for a price they can afford. Larry thinks access to a good lawyer shouldn't have to be a special privilege of the wealthy and powerful and he'll discuss a way you can have good legal access for a fraction of the price.
For the past several decades, conservative forces in the US and Canada have worked to finance and organize Christian fundamentalist sects, the Catholic Church and other organizations to become potentially destabilizing of progressive democratic principles and practices. Powerful interlocking political and corporate forces are seemingly teaming up against women and the disadvantaged in many Southern and Western states and in parts of Canada. These forces have negative effects on women's ability to control and maintain bodily integrity and health, especially among low income women who often are disproportionately affected by restrictions on abortion services. What ought to happen regarding access to these services? The speakers will shed light on the pertinent issues and argue that it's urgent to coordinate and democratically empower individuals, organizations, communities and all levels of Government to produce changes in attitudes, norms, behaviour and policies that will enable women, using their own free will, to obtain reproductive health services, including abortion care. Speakers: Carol Williams, Brittney Adams and Shannon Ingram Carol Williams is a cultural historian specializing in Women & Gender Studies, Visual Culture, and North American Women's History including histories of women's activism. Williams has published two books, Indigenous Women's Work (2012) and Framing the West: Race, Gender and the Photographic “Frontier” (2003). Brittney Adams completed her Bachelor Degree in Political Science from the University of Lethbridge in 2013 and is currently completing her Masters of Arts in Women and Gender Studies. Her M.A thesis titled “Multiple I Do's” examines the role of feminist knowledge in the 2011 BC Supreme Court ruling on polygamy. Adams has long been involved in political activism in the Lethbridge community and is the Co-Coordinator of the Campus Women's Centre, as well as a YWCA Board Member. This year, she also became a Board Member with LPIRG and recently, Adams helped organize the Students for Choice action group at the University of Lethbridge.
