Is a carnal Christian really a Christian? When a saved person acts like an unsaved person, all of the alarm bells should go off! We're not talking about new believers - we'll be patient with them and provide good examples while the Spirit helps them grow. But are we growing? Do we even understand that spiritual maturity is the goal? We've got problems with this in the American church, just like they did in the Corinthian church. Here's Jim to conclude his message on, Stunted Growth. Dr. Instone-Brewer received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he specialized in early rabbinic literature. Today he is a Baptist minister in the UK who served for twenty years as a research fellow at Tyndale House in Cambridge, He is the author of lots of books and articles, including Divorce and Remarriage in the Bible (which my friend Gordon Spivey recommends) and also The Jesus Scandals, Moral Questions of the Bible, and Science and the Bible. He has helped develop a solid Bible app called STEPBible -- one more way the academy is shaping the practice of ordinary Christians, especially as they engage scripture. Oh, and Dr. Instone-Bridges is on the NIV translation team … which totally fascinates me and is the reason I asked him to join us on AoH.
A "party spirit" isn't actually as fun as it sounds. Paul once gave us a list of "deeds of the flesh," including "hatreds, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions," and the one we'll look at today: "factions." An older translation gives that as "party spirit," as in a political party - we would say, "partisanship." Why do Christians divide themselves into streams of teaching, or teachers? We need to stop. SEP. 29, 2025Submit to "Spirit control"."Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control." Pr 25:28 NIVIn Bible times cities were built with high walls around them for protection. Why? Because an enemy strong enough to tear down those walls was strong enough to take the city. Now you understand this Scripture: "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control." An anonymous poet wrote "The Man in the Glass." Here it is: "When you get what you want in your struggle for self, and the world makes you king for a day, just go to the mirror and look at yourself, and see what that man has to say. For it isn't your father or mother or wife who judgment upon you must pass, the fellow whose verdict counts the most in your life is the one staring back from the glass. Some people may think you a straight-shooting chum and call you a wonderful guy, but the man in the glass says you're only a bum if you can't look him straight in the eye. He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest, for he's with you clear to the end. And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test, if the man in the glass is your friend. You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life and get pats on the back as you pass, but your final reward will be heartaches and tears if you've cheated the man in the glass." The Bible says, "The fruit of the Spirit is...forbearance [self-control]" (Gal 5:22-23 NIV). And the best way to have self-control is to submit to "Spirit control."Submit to "Spirit control" Self-control is Spirit control.Share This DevotionalSend us a textSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!
SEP. 30, 2025Don't speak too quickly."Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them." Pr 29:20 NIVWhen you speak too quickly, you can send the wrong signal and get results you don't want. This is particularly so when you're negotiating for the best deal. Speaking impulsively, and overtalking, are not signs of strength but of weakness and insecurity. Here is a story that illustrates the point: A young computer salesman named Kurt was delighted when one of his business clients expressed interest in buying a used computer system-one that Kurt had installed two years ago but that had recently been replaced with an upgrade. After careful consultation with his head office, Kurt fixed a price of $800,000.00 for the used system and documented in writing all his reasons for requesting that amount. As he sat down to negotiate, he heard an inner voice saying, "Wait. Let them do the initial talking." The buyers quickly filled the silence with a long rundown of their own research about this particular computer system's strengths and weaknesses, the age of the equipment, and the need for new software. "Can you throw upgraded software into the deal?" one of the buyers asked. "Sure," Kurt offered. The buyers then said, "We will give you $950,000.00 for the system, but not a penny more." Less than an hour later, the paperwork was signed, and Kurt walked away with a much better deal than he ever imagined, having said little more than thank-you. The apostle James writes, "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak" (Jas 1:19 NIV).Don't speak too quickly Quick to listen, slow to speakShare This DevotionalSend us a textSupport the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!
With God, we never have to worry about being the one who bestows unrequited love.Blessings,Elder Barbara HayesBe Still & Know | Proverbs 8:17 NIV
Paul says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." (NIV). This is a very popular verse that is usually taken out of context as it is often associated with our ability to accomplish a difficult task. Paul is actually speaking of being content in all situations and circumstances because he holds fast to Jesus and His comforting hand to endure. Today we close out this Silent Killer series as we discuss discontentment. Watch as Lead Pastor Kevin Barton brings the energy and honesty in today message about remembering who we belong to and like Paul who was writing from prison that we can be content if we remember the promises of God. Not matter the challenge, "To live is Christ and to die is gain."

God created us in His kindness and nurtured us with His love. Let your life reflect His goodness. - 1 John 3:1 (NIV)
So many of us Christian women have wrestled with seeking validation from guys—through relationships, attention, and even lust. Let's talk about how God used Hosea 2:6-7 to stop me in my tracks and lovingly discipline me.“Therefore I will block her path with thornbushes; I will wall her in so that she cannot find her way. She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them.” – Hosea 2:6-7 (NIV)
Friends... my heart is heavy. There have been so many senseless tragedies in the last few weeks. We know as believers that the world will get worse as we get closer to the end of time. We mourn, but we don't mourn as the rest of the world does. We keep the faith. The good news is this life is not the end. We all have the gift of eternal life, and all we have to do is accept it. Praise God for our Savior, JESUS. We reached a milestone of 50,000 followers since the last episode! God is working and people are being reached. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, comments, shares, and donations. They are such a blessing and motivation. I hope these chapters from Psalms will bring you some peace. The 23rd Psalm is my favorite and I often recite it to myself. We will fear no evil because God is with us! We are reading chapters 4, 23, 27, 34, 46, 62, 91, 121, and 139. All are read in the NIV except for chapter 23 which is read in NKJV.If you have felt blessed by this podcast and would like toshow your support with a $1 donation, please go to https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/hcharltoncrespin. Real philosophers love Jesus. Once you've said that "all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden" in Christ, that's it. There's no wisdom left for pretenders like Plato, Descartes, Nietzsche. It's all in Jesus. And it's "hidden." Hidden from those who claim to love wisdom, but who aren't willing to look for it at the Source. We're in the letter of 1 Corinthians today to conclude Jim's message, The Degree That Destroys. Radical Life // Week 2 // Scandalous CallingPastors JF & Ashley WilkersonMatthew 28:16-20 NIV 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”1. THE BODYMatthew 28:19 NIV 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations.Ephesians 3:4-6 NIV 4 In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. 6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.1. THE BODY2. THE BLESSINGGalatians 3:5-9 NIV 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. 7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. 8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.Galatians 3:26-29 NIV 26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.Galatians 3:28-29 NIV 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.1. THE BODY2. THE BLESSING3. THE BEAUTY1 Corinthians 12:12-14 NIV 12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.Romans 12:4-5; 9-10; 15-16a NIV 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others…9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves…15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16a Live in harmony with one another…1. THE BODY2. THE BLESSING3. THE BEAUTY

1. FOCUS ON WHO YOU ARE Philippians 3:4–10 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. 7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider EVERYTHING A LOSS because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be FOUND IN HIM, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, (NIV) Acts 9:15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. (NIV) John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (NIV) Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV) 2. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU NEED TO FORGET Philippians 3:12–13 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: FORGETTING what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, (NIV) Hebrews 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. (NIV) 3. FOCUS ON THE GOAL Philippians 3:14 I PRESS on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (NIV) Hebrews 10:35–36 So do not throw away your CONFIDENCE; it will be richly REWARDED. 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. (NIV)
QUOTES FOR REFLECTION“Americans have…a new rule written into their mental operating systems: Do your own thing, find your own reality, it's all relative. …Today, each of us is freer than ever to custom-make reality, to believe whatever and pretend to be whoever we wish. Which makes all the lines between actual and fictional blur and disappear more easily. Truth in general becomes flexible, personal, subjective. And we like this new ultra-freedom, insist on it, even as we fear and loathe the ways so many of our… fellow Americans use it.”~Kurt Andersen, author of Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire “…there is the view that God still speaks to us independent of the Bible. Drink this milk for a number of years and you will soon be attributing to God the inner voices coming from your fallen self.”~Conrad Mbewe, Zambian pastor “Truth is what your contemporaries let you get away with.”~Richard M. Rorty (1931-2007), postmodern philosopher “When people give up the search for truth, people turn to propaganda. And propaganda relies on emotional power.”~Jacques Ellul (1912-1994) French philosopher and sociologist “…we are not entitled to such license, I mean that of affirming what we please; we make the Holy Scriptures the rule and the measure of every tenet…”~Gregory of Nyssa (c. 335-c. 394), influential Christian leader, based in ancient Cappadocia “…we ought not to deliver even the most casual remark without the Holy Scriptures: nor be drawn aside by mere probabilities and the artifices of argument. Do not then believe me because I tell you these things, unless you receive from the Holy Scriptures the proof of what is set forth: for this salvation, which is of our faith, is not by ingenious reasonings, but by proof from the Holy Scriptures.”~Cyril of Alexandria, 5th century Christian bishop “[Christ] is everywhere, but he does not wish that you grope for him everywhere. Grope rather where the Word is, and there you will lay hold of him in the right way.”~Martin Luther (1483-1546), German reformerSERMON PASSAGESGenesis 1 (NASB95) 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.... Psalm 33 (NASB95)6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,And by the breath of His mouth all their host….9 For He spoke, and it was done;He commanded, and it stood fast. John 1 (NASB95) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it…. 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 5 (NASB95) 39 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me; 40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life…. 45 Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. 47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” Luke 24 (ESV)25 And [Jesus] said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself…. 44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Galatians 1 (NIV) 11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2 (NIV) 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God's people and also members of his household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit. Hebrews 1 (NIV) 1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

The Lord is calling to the city— and to fear your name is wisdom— “Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.10 Am I still to forget your ill-gotten treasures, you wicked house, and the short ephah, which is accursed?11 Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?12 Your rich people are violent; your inhabitants are liars and their tongues speak deceitfully.13 Therefore, I have begun to destroy you, to ruin you because of your sins.14 You will eat but not be satisfied; your stomach will still be empty. You will store up but save nothing, because what you save I will give to the sword.15 You will plant but not harvest; you will press olives but not use the oil, you will crush grapes but not drink the wine.16 You have observed the statutes of Omri and all the practices of Ahab's house; you have followed their traditions. Therefore I will give you over to ruin and your people to derision; you will bear the scorn of the nations.”Mandeville Bible Church "Where God's Word is Our Foundation"https://www.mandevillebiblechurch.org/Come and see that God's Word is alive and at work right here in Mandeville.. and throughout the world! All are welcome. 217 Carroll Street, Mandeville, LA 70448(985) 626-3114Sunday Service: 9:30AMAdult Sunday School: 10:45-11:30AMNursery and Children's church available.
This week, Carrie Buckner explores Jesus' words on murder and lust in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:21-30 NIV). While it can seem like Jesus might be talking about two separate moral issues, He's actually describing one: the way we view, think about, and value other people. It's a low bar for Jesus' people to not kill other people or to commit adultery. Because, Jesus isn't only interested in external behavior, but internal transformation. Humans are capable of hating people that they don't kill, or lustfully desiring another people that they don't commit adultery with. For Jesus, Kingdom people value other human beings, seeing them as image bearers whose lives are sacred. Jesus' followers are to uphold people's dignity and fight against hatred and objectification.
We encourage one another to follow the Lord.“Let us encourage one another” (Hebrews 10:25, NIV).

When you go through tragic events, it really causes you to have a different perspective.” - Monique Rodriguez “I decided to fulfill [my dream] when I went through that loss, and I am thankful for my son’s life because he caused me to have a relationship with God. He taught me to be fearless and to have courage and to be bold in my faith.” - Monique Rodriguez “Our mission is not only to empower, educate, and to excite women about healthy hair, but I also feel that we are empowering, exciting, and educating about the gospel.” - Monique Rodriguez “I do feel that Mielle—because it was birthed from a place of pain that ultimately was purposeful—is anointed.” - Monique Rodriguez “If you’re having butterflies in your stomach, if you have a lump in your throat, if you have tightness in your chest because of a certain experience that you’re having or something coming up in your life, that is your body’s way of saying, ‘There is something inside your heart that needs to be addressed that is not well.’” - Adam Young “Part of the healing journey is getting honest, not just about what happened, but about the feelings that you have in your body, and welcoming those, making us a home for those feelings so that they can be felt, processed, and expressed.” - Adam Young “Whenever you experience trauma, the single most effective way to experience healing of those neural networks is through healthy relationships with other people. Healing is necessarily relational, and it requires looking at the past.” - Adam Young “We’re created for secure attachment, which means a healthy relationship with God where we have a felt sense that God is there for us, that God will respond to our cries, and that God is pursuing our hearts.” - Adam Young “Practices in general, whether it’s prayer, mindfulness, walking and looking at beauty, whatever practices you have in your life where you bring the fullness of your presence—and that’s the key attribute for a practice to be meaningful—you have to be aware and present.” - Adam Young “The practice of prayer, the practice of solitude, both are necessary for the development of not just your brain, but for you to come to know who you are, who God created you to be, and how you uniquely reflect God in a way that others don’t.” - Adam Young ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Tongue-tangled. The Corinthian church had become disordered. Not just their church "services," as we would call them, but the church itself was in danger of losing its unity. And all because they had become enamored of certain gifts. Paul sets them straight about the proper hierarchy of spiritual gifts, but then he writes, "Now I'll show you a more excellent way." We've been looking at that "way" that outshines all the gifts, and even rises above faith, and hope!
