The REALIFE Process®
Can I really Change Behavior? The answer is Yes! - Episode 251

The REALIFE Process®

In this episode of the Doing What Matters Podcast, hosted by Teresa McCloy, we delve into the profound concept of the rule of life and its integral role in behavioral change. Teresa begins by defining the rule of life as a commitment to living life guided by patterns of behaviors, routines, and rhythms, shaped through discernment in collaboration with one's values and divine design. This rule of life serves as a dynamic framework, assisting individuals in making life decisions and aligning their daily activities accordingly, emphasizing the shift from a human "doing" to a human "being." The journey toward behavioral change is a key theme explored in the episode. Teresa explains that the transformation process starts with recognizing the need for change and then progresses through stages: behavior, routine, rhythm, and spiritual rhythm. It is a thoughtful shift from managing behaviors to establishing new routines and, eventually, embracing these behaviors as practiced rhythms in daily life. Over time, these rhythms become a spiritual practice that fosters a deeper connection with God in the everyday moments of life. Teresa provides personal examples to illustrate these principles. She shares her journey of turning a seemingly selfish desire for a hot tub into a spiritual practice. The daily ritual of enjoying her hot tub became a sacred moment, allowing her to notice the extraordinary within the ordinary. Another example she offers is her practice of capturing everyday moments as extraordinary moments, which has now persisted for nearly 1,900 days. The podcast concludes with practical takeaways. Teresa encourages listeners to reflect on areas in their lives where behavioral change is needed and emphasizes the importance of a rule of life in guiding positive behaviors and rhythms. She reminds us that transformation is an ongoing process, and we must remain vigilant in nurturing our spiritual rhythms. Listeners are invited to join the podcast community and explore further, including information about the coach certification program. Teresa leaves us with a powerful message: "Every ordinary day has an extraordinary moment. You just have to look for them." Select Safety Information RotaTeq should not be administered to infants with a demonstrated history of hypersensitivity to the vaccine or any component of the vaccine. Infants with a history of intussusception or who have congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract that could predispose infants to intussusception should not receive RotaTeq. Infants with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease or SCID should not receive RotaTeq. Administration of RotaTeq should be postponed in infants suffering from acute severe febrile illness. The presence of a minor infection is not a contraindication for immunisation. The administration of RotaTeq should be postponed in subjects suffering from acute diarrhoea or vomiting. No safety or efficacy data are available from clinical trials regarding the administration of RotaTeq to infants who are potentially immunocompromised. Cases of gastroenteritis associated with vaccine virus have been reported post marketing in infants with severe combined immunodeficiency. Vaccine virus transmission from vaccine recipient to nonvaccinated contacts has been reported. Caution is advised when considering whether to administer RotaTeq to individuals with immunodeficient contacts. In post-marketing experience, intussusception (including death) and Kawasaki disease have been reported in infants who have received RotaTeq. As a precaution, healthcare professionals should follow-up on any symptoms indicative of intussusception (severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bloody stools, abdominal bloating and/or high fever) since data from observational studies indicate an increased risk of intussusception, mostly within 7 days after rotavirus vaccination. Parents/guardians should be advised to promptly report such symptoms to their healthcare provider. The level of protection provided by RotaTeq is based on the completion of all 3 doses. As with any vaccine, vaccination with RotaTeq may not result in complete protection in all recipients. HQ-ROT-00133 | 02/23   Podcast References: 1.Nelson R. COVID-19 disrupts vaccine delivery. “No matter how bad things are and what you have to overcome, you can find pure joy in spite of it all,” says Sandy Joy Weston.  Holli & Jeanna want to bottle up her passion, enthusiasm and joy into an elixir and give it to everyone for free.  What a beautiful world that would be.  Sandy Joy lit us up and she will to you too! As a fiercely independent child, growing up virtually on her own; she unknowingly found her superpower. In her quest to feel good, she began a daily practice with intentional words, movement and laughter.  She dreamed big and grew up to be a huge success.   Now she inspires all ages of people through her books, speeches, and practices. Whatever she does she does it with the utmost joy and love.  She shows up for people without an ulterior motif.  She says her success is because she tapped into her heart space, love and joy and she uses the same practice whether it's for one view or one million views.   Sandy Joy studied people who were joyful and all of them started their day with something powerful.  Life didn't happen to them, they happened to life. Everyone has the power within themselves to change their lives.  Sandy Joy says 1-3 minutes of positive power thought everyday can change your day and change your life.  Do this for 30 days to create a habit. Sandy Joy walks the talk in a billboard sort of way - she left Jeanna and Holli an extra razzle dazzle and smiles abound.  It's all within us - don't go looking outside yourself. More about Sandy Joy Westin: Sandy Joy Weston M.Ed. received her Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from Temple University, and achieved her Bachelor of Science in Dance from West Chester University. She began her journey as a health club owner when she opened an in-home private training company called Specialty Fit. She then proceeded to open the first Weston Fitness in Bala Cynwyd, PA with the help of her mentors. After much success, she continued to open two more health clubs including one in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, PA. Sandy's vivacious personality and positive attitude made her impossible to ignore, so when Philadelphia's NBC 10 caught wind of her, they approached her to become their fitness expert. During her time with NBC 10 she hosted fitness segments with the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and the 76ers. Her great TV personality took her to the Discovery Channel where she was the featured trainer on the Reality TV show “Health Cops”.  Sandy also created the nationally recognized Philly Street Line Dance to help combat Philly's “fattest city” label in 2001, which she taught all over the city. An ever rising star in Philadelphia's fitness scene, Sandy became the first female trainer for the Philadelphia Flyers and personally worked with Eric Lindros, Ed Snider, and Pat Croce. Sandy also worked with the Philadelphia 76ers dance team when she choreographed and performed a half time routine. Sandy continues to be an icon for Philadelphia fitness and well being motivation. The past five years, Sandy has been focusing on SJW Productions, an international company whose main mission is to highlight all the positive in the world and help people come together to reach their individual and common goals. She does this through her podcasts, “Let's Keep It Real” & “Positive Bitch Lady”, her books, Train Your Head & Your Body Will Follow and My 30-Day Reset Journal, and her workshops.  She is also traveling the world as a Keynote Speaker specializing in wellness, fitness, and women empowerment. Sandy's outlook on life inspires every single person to live with a little more joy.    Uncorked Assignments: Create a ritual to do every morning to start your day. Without health and wellness, nothing else is fully realized in life. We have hosted some incredible guests who have highlighted the integrative wellness mindset in our past 99 episodes (WHAT, almost 100?!) and we are excited for you to listen to this incredibly powerful and timely episode with Dr. Donese Worden - she brings so much of our episodes and conversations together!   Our interview begins with an important, significant reminder to us all…we cannot be at 100% optimal health until we find the deep connection with ourselves and have a sense of spiritual connectedness.  No matter how well you eat, sleep, or how much exercise - you cannot be made whole if you are not connected to self and spirit. Do you feel connected? As you listen to the episode, we hope you feel as moved as Holli and Jeanna did with the beauty of a medical practitioner who helps bridge the western and eastern modalities of medicine and is committed to the important vision (that we are confident is coming into focus for everyone) of integrative, functional medicine.   And, Dr. Warden shares what she uses to focus on and find that connection on a daily basis, we think you will be inspired that (spoiler alert) they are: Music is medicine!  Holli and Jeanna know why - take a listen to her husband Barry Goldstein's Uncorked Episode Meditation - she is working on a white paper to be released soon with Dr Joe Dispenza AND also says it doesn't have to be a huge time commitment Breathwork - 5-10 minutes and it becomes a way of healthier being in an emotionally charged world For those of you interested in continuing to understand the assignment, there is a really powerful Dr. Worden Pop Quiz begins at 18:00 - The 7 Signs Your Body Isn't Right.  It is a real gift…and just know that Dr. Worden has reminded us all that our bodies are wise but we can't ignore the signs!  Remember your healthspan IS your lifespan! (PSA - try and ignore the skinny dipping at 88 discussion, we dare you.)  Dr. Worden also reminds us all: More isn't always better (Holli :) AND that our bodies are the best pharmacy there is.  Period.   Dr. Worden is also working on a new, groundbreaking cancer research center in Arizona.  The center will focus on metabolic science and therapies as it offers research, hospital, and treatment to patients.  With help from her friends, the bees!   More about Dr. Donese Worden, NMD: Dr. Donese Worden is a Naturopathic Medical Doctor, an expert diagnostician, a global health educator whose training in both conventional and alternative medicine affords her the privilege of providing each of her patients with a specific treatment plan that addresses not just the symptoms but the whole person to get to the root of the problem. An Arizona-based clinician with offices in Scottsdale and Gilbert, Dr. Worden is consistently lauded for her exceptional intelligence, experience, compassion, cutting-edge research and superior quality of care including diagnostician and integration of conventional medicine and the mind-body-spirit union. In addition, Dr Worden is a global health educator and keynote speaker, researcher, corporate wellness expert, and product formulator.  Read more here!  Uncorked Assignments: Take Dr Worden's 7 Signs Pop Quiz…as often as you need to to ensure you are paying attention to the information your body is sending to you and actively engaged to improve areas that need your focused attention. Why is connection important?  Dr Worden's definition says it all.  ‘There is a beautiful peace in knowing it is all going to be ok.'  When we are connected the fear can be tamed and we know we have anything that comes our way. Have you ever asked yourself, “What am I doing with my life?” Our delightful guest, Daniela Hofmann, asked that question to birth The Cabin into being.   The Cabin is a mindful online space for conscious changemakers to help them focus on doing the work that matters most.   Daniela integrates the masculine and feminine principles of work.  She married the masculine energy of the action of “doing the work” with the feminine of “nurturing the process of the work.” Integration of the masculine and feminine is where the magic happens!  This is a story of a  small town girl escaping her reality only to find that her dream life was not fulfilling.  In her quest to find herself, she realized work was her addiction.  Doing too much or just doing for the sake of doing was customary and expected.  When she stopped this cycle, it allowed new things to emerge.  Her key to happiness is being honest with herself about her feelings and course correcting when it felt right. The invitation she asks is to know you are on a journey and to sit with the pain. She does not check out with social media or binge watching or sadly, not drinking bubbles…. Joining The Cabin Club will catapult you effortlessly to get shit done without even trying hard!  More done in less time - more time for champagne and fun we say. More about Daniela: Daniela spent the first decade of her career as a Finance Professional in the corporate world. Feeling restless and increasingly unfulfilled, she embarked on an entrepreneurial journey in 2017. For Daniela, work has always been a form of creative expression with the potential to positively impact our communities and society at large. However, not long after leaving full-time employment, she started to notice how difficult it is to find time and space for work that really matters.  the cabin, an online coworking space that combines mindfulness and focused work, was born out of this struggle. Today the cabin supports changemakers to focus on doing work that matters and creating a healthy relationship to work.   Uncorked Assignment: Join the Uncorked community, subscribe at www.loauncorked.com Podcast References: the cabin website: https://mindfulcoworking.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thecabinmindfulcoworking/ Medium: https://daniela-hofmann.medium.com/   As always, thanks for listening and we look forward to sharing more badassery conversations with you!  Please consider leaving a review and subscribing or dropping us a note to say hi and share your thoughts. www.loauncorked.com  l  loauncorked@gmail.com  I  Insta: @uncorked_holli_jeanna  I  FB: loauncork

What is a girl to do when you take your friend shopping and she doesn't like anything?? Thankfully, we've got Carine Camera on the podcast for all the answers.  Carine established Carrinna which is a community for women over 40 who want to celebrate aging through style, beauty and wellness.   She dishes out heaps of advice on style and women struggling with body image issues.  She says it's important to focus on identifying and putting energy into the places on our bodies that we love.  We have to want to shift the thinking about our bodies, be in appreciation for our bodies and show extreme gratitude for our bodies.  Our first step is to find a style that makes us feel good. Carine also is an expert in energy readings and acupuncture.  Not only is facial acupuncture cosmetic but it helps release stored emotions.  The number 11s we try to get rid of with Botox is frustration and anger. She helps you discover if botox or facial acupuncture is for you. Although Carine is a mega healer, she still says the best healer is you.  When something is said that does not sit well, she asks us to go inside and investigate.  We can start putting a connection between how we feel physically and our emotions. Celebrate little moments. Being present and having gratitude for every moment. More about Carine Camera: I'm proud of my over 12 years of practicing Acupuncture and Chinese medicine on the West Coast.  My practice has evolved with me to include more than my initial foundation of needles and herbs.  In addition to graduating from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. My Own Healing Journey: My personal experience with the body's own healing power is what motivated me toward my journey in Eastern medicine. After years of struggling with digestive issues, acne, menstrual pain, headaches, and chronic fatigue, I was surprised that by merely changing my diet, I was able to resolve all of my health concerns. My true ah-ha moment arrived one day when my gynecologist suggested I have surgery to remove a painful cyst on my right ovary. Reluctant to put my body under such trauma, I postponed the surgery for two months, to see if I could dissolve the cyst with proper nutrition and alternative medicine. After two months of consistent acupuncture sessions, Chinese herbal formulas, and a modified diet, my cyst completely disappeared and I no longer needed surgery. This period (2004)  also put an end to my extremely painful pelvic pain that came with my monthly menstrual cycle (the best side effect ever). The acupuncture, herbs, and lifestyle shifts, completely changed the course of my life. My period pain has never come back to that level of severity.  And so began my lifelong passion to help others experience the miraculous healing potential of their own bodies. Who is Carine Camara? I am a New York City gal, born and raised in Manhattan. Out here on the West Coast, I've discovered the country woman I am within. I love being physically active through weight training, yoga, dance, and my Peloton bike. With the supportive help of friends and community, I fell in my love with myself and am passionate about my gifts that I am offering to the world. Holli & Jeanna are lit up like a Christmas tree and ready to co-create a special podcast for the LOA FAM.  But before we rush into the next moment (hehe we are learning not to rush it - see LOA Uncorked assignment below,) we have to confess that it wasn't a B&E (Break & Enter) in LA, Ora really did open her front door for Holli & Jeanna.  We are so thankful she did!!!  She definitely takes the mystery out of mysticism in this conversation.   Ora artfully explains the great coupling of mindfulness and mysticism.  She wanted to take the esoteric of mysticism and bring it into modern day times.  When you are mindful and present, your senses are heightened.   Your experiences can take you into heightened states of feeling, higher states of consciousness, and of how you are perceiving something in that moment.  As an example, you could watch a sunrise and be so present that your endorphins are ignited that its as if you are on a psychedelic. LOA gals are jumping on that party!  Ora explains her Says Who? Method.  This method helps you change your thoughts at any time.  Any negative thoughts can be turned around.  Take the real estate in your brain and curate the good thoughts that bring out the best in you.  When the sneaky negative ninja thoughts come up, show awareness and humor with the ninja.  Asking ourselves the Says Who? questions is a way for real change.  Once pried  from Ora's study, the LOA gals left LA with a deep understanding, “Do not rush to get to the next moment.”  How that beautiful moment with Ora went by too fast.  Like Ora, we want to be our own cosmic dancer and co-create with the Universe.  More about Ora Nadrich:  Ora Nadrich is founder and president of the Institute for Transformational Thinking and author of Live True: A Mindfulness Guide to Authenticity, named in the 100 Best Mindfulness Books of All Time by BookAuthority. She is a certified life coach and Mindfulness teacher, specializing in transformational thinking, self-discovery and mentoring new coaches as they develop their careers.  Ora's rare combination of insight, intuition, compassion and charisma has made her one of the most effective and sought-after coaches in Los Angeles. Her work has been featured in Women's Health Magazine, Reader's Digest, Conscious Lifestyle Magazine, Fast Company, Success Magazine, Spirituality & Health, Elevated Existence, NBC News, LA Yoga Magazine, Yahoo! Health, and many more.  Celebrated spiritual teacher and best-selling author Marianne Williamson counts Ora as a source of inspiration, noting, “Ora Nadrich is a treasure. Her voice bears the passion of her own experience; she's able to reach deep into our hearts because she's culled so much wisdom from her own. When she speaks, I listen; when she writes, I read it; when she gives advice, I heed it. Her sparkle and power are not to be missed.”  From a very early age, Ora has been a seeker of knowledge, with a particular interest in discovering how our thoughts work. Her lifelong journey towards this inner awareness, along with her distinctive combination of intuition and compassion that allows her to open up avenues of trust and connection, eventually led to her becoming a life coach and developing her simple yet effective questioning method, designed to uncover both the pitfalls and potential our thoughts have in determining our destiny.  Her unique method, which has guided her clients to unlock the strength and promise within, allowing them to deal with the fears and other obstacles that have held them back, has thus been successful in helping thousands of people realize their desires and reach their goals.  Ora also facilitates highly popular monthly women's groups and mindful meditation seminars, as well as developed and facilitated a Mindfulness program for club leaders at one of the top private schools in Los Angeles. Through the IFTT, Ora plans to get her Mindfulness program into as many schools as possible, which can address, and ameliorate the stress and anxiety so many young adults are experiencing today. Ora's daily updates may be found on Instagram @OraNadrich, Facebook at Author Ora Nadrich and Twitter @OraNadrich. It's not uncommon for health care providers to feel that they lack the knowledge and training to provide adequate and culturally competent care to veterans and their family members. More veterans are also seeking health care in the civilian sector, and it's critically important for clinicians to have the knowledge, skills, and resources to care for this unique population. In this episode, Drs. Rita D'Aoust and Alicia Gill Rossiter, co-editors of the new book Caring for Veterans and their Families: A Guide for Nurses and Healthcare Professionals, discuss how their book is helping to close the knowledge gap faced by clinicians and how education can continue to improve to meet the needs of those who serve in the Armed Forces. Myths in Pain Medicine: Steroid Doses, Spine Surgery, Vasectomies, etc. Dr. Rosenblum discusses a recent email (below) from a patient suffering from Post Vasectomy Pain who reached out after hearing the recent PVPS Episode of the PainExam Podcast. Also Discussed: - Myth of 3 Steroid Shots Per Year - Myth of Needing Cervical Spine Surgery to Avoid Paralysis if Rear Ended - Myth of Downplaying Surgeries like Vasectomies (See Below) "Dr. Rosenblum I appreciated your recent podcast on Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome. This is a condition I am currently suffering from. I am being treated by a pelvic floor physical therapist, which is improving muscular coordination, but not improving the pain much. My vasectomy was in December, 2017 and I have been in pain since then. It was very distracting for about 10 months, and I had a 2 month course of Lyrica which helped reduce the pain. After about October 2018 the pain went down but it is always there. Ejacuation is not pleasurable, rather it feels like someone is squeezing my testicles unpleasantly and afterward I have a dull ache or burning sensation which persists for about 1-2 days. I thought your reactions and impressions on reviewing the medical consequences of vasectomy to be amusing. The surgery is typically presented as being as trivial as excising a wart. This may be the experience of 90% of men, but if you end up with chronic complications, it is no exaggeration to say that it is capable of ruining your life. I am convinced that this is more common and causes far more suffering that is generally understood, affecting probably 1-2% of men who get a vasectomy. Men tend to suffer in silence. Urologists tend to resist attributing the problems to the vasectomy. I have collected several thousand links to stories that men have posted over the last few decades, describing this unfortunate disease. I would encourage you to take a look at the ones I have posted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/postvasectomypain/wiki/timeline There are over 720 stories that I have posted, linked to the original source, and indexed chronologically, along with story codes.
