Brian Drozdowicz, Senior VP and General Manager for Acute and Payer at PointClickCare, provides a platform using predictive analytics and AI for data sharing and collaboration across healthcare stakeholders. Interoperability has been an ongoing challenge due to the lack of standards and clear governance to support data sharing. The shift to value-based care drives the need for more access to patient data to improve patient outcomes, facilitate care transitions, and reduce readmissions and costs. Brian explains, "PointClickCare has been a player in the market for quite some time. We're best known for the market-leading senior care EHR that we've had in market for 20-plus years. I run a business unit that sits by the side of that. We refer to that as the acute and payer business. And ultimately, this additional business and value proposition to the market operates the largest care collaboration network, sharing healthcare data across all the different stakeholders, hospitals, health plans, ambulatory clinics, community providers, and connecting is our core business. So we're ultimately in the business of sharing data and doing that safely, securely in a trusted way." "There are a lot of ways of driving adoption and sharing data at scale. I'd call out a couple of key areas in which we've seen a lot of progress in recent years. First is having well-established technology standards that safely and securely transmit that data. Number Two is having to share that data. So, otherwise, it's a bunch of data flowing back and forth just for the sake of data. And that doesn't solve anything with value-based care. Putting a set of guardrails in place requires providers and payers to work together with this data." #PointClickCare #HealthcareData #Interoperability #MedAI #DataSilos #ValueBasedCare #VBC pointclickcare.com Download the transcript here

Mike started selling SaaS before SaaS was a thing. PointClickCare is the Salesforce of healthcare. For the first 7 years, they raised just $600K from friends and family. With that funding, they grew to $50M in ARR. Through that time, they went through the 2000 Dotcom crash and nearly went bankrupt in 2004 as they chased too many markets too soon.Since then, the company has continued to grow at over 20% compounded rate and hit $500M in ARR in 2024 and a $5B valuation. Mike shares how they started the company, the go-to-market strategy they used to go from 0 to $10M ARR and some of the most common mistakes he sees in the founders he works with today. Why you should listen:Why you might need to live with your customers to really understand them. Hospitals might seem like the quintessential healthcare setting, but only about 11% of care episodes actually occur in these facilities, according to the National Institutes of Health. The other 89% of care is delivered through a complex continuum of outpatient settings that span everything from primary care offices to ambulatory surgery centers to long-term care facilities, just to name a few locations. Brian Drozdowicz, SVP and GM of acute and payor markets at PointClickCare, joins Justin to chat about the technological, legal, and incentive barriers to coordinating value-based care (VBC) across the healthcare ecosystem. Brian draws from more than two decades of leadership experience in healthcare tech to share his perspectives on VBC: how accountable care organizations are using data to improve outcomes at lower cost, why the rest of the industry always seems to be just one year away from activating VBC, and why 2024 may be the year that VBC truly, finally takes off. Justin and Brian ask the questions that may hold the keys to unlocking VBC: Who's responsible for providing visibility into patients' journeys—payors, providers, or the patients themselves? What's the secret to HCIT interoperability? Can healthcare learn anything from the financial industry's approach to data privacy? Why are payors suddenly open to sharing data? And what big changes are in store for healthcare in 2024? To learn more about Definitive Healthcare, please visit us at definitivehc.com.
Behavioral health conditions show up in the emergency department far too often. It can be a more subtle encounter with patients struggling with pain management or anxiety symptoms, or an outright crisis event, and many variations in between. But there are signals that can be confidently tracked and used to help identify individuals with certain diagnoses or symptoms that may indicate a behavioral health condition, or worse, an overdose or suicide attempt. Once identified, care teams can be alerted, collaborate with the patient's broader care team, and provide appropriate care and follow up.In this podcast Ian Bruce, Senior Clinical Solutions Lead, PointClickCare and Becky Wilkinson from Providence Health & Services will discuss their success with identifying and providing alternative care options and care collaboration from the ED. This podcast is sponsored by PointClickCare.
While whole person care depends upon secure portability, there are three pathways to consider, according to Dr. Ben Zaniello, chief medical officer of PointClickCare.
Workplace violence is one of the most complex and dangerous occupational hazards facing healthcare workers today. Any employee who fears going to work is more likely to leave that employer, and hospitals know what that means to their ED recruiting, staffing and operations if they cannot find solutions to address the potential for violent patient behavior. However, real time data can provide the answer. When providers can collaborate and share risk data and notifications with downstream healthcare providers at registration and points of care, then care staff can be notified and take the precautions needed to stay safe and keep patients safe.In this episode, Lisa Weatherwax, Senior Clinical Solutions Lead, PointClickCare, will be talking with Dr. Brian Patel, Chief Medical Officer at Sturdy Health in Massachusetts, on steps they are taking to curb, control and improve instances of workplace violence and keeping their staff safe at the bedside. This podcast is sponsored by PointClickCare.

Host Dr. Nick van Terheyden aka Dr. Nick, discusses Spelunking in Healthcare Data with Benjamin Zaniello, MD MPH, CMO at PointClickCare. Their discussion includes talking to Ben, who is an Infectious Disease doctor about his struggles with finding useful patient information in the EMR, challenges of EMRs and how they have shifted doctors' focus away from patients and towards computer screens, quoting Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” shorthand for the wealth of information in EMRs that remains inaccessible to doctors, Water, water, everywhere, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink. And how to make EMR data more accessible and useful to clinical team members delivering patient care. Mental health disorders are the costliest health conditions in the United States, with annual spending over $200 billion. And even at that cost, fewer than 50% of Americans with mental health disorders and 10% experiencing substance use disorder accessed treatment in 2020. It's no wonder: our fragmented healthcare system is daunting. In this series, we'll explore how a more integrated, collaborative approach to addressing mental and behavioral health can improve outcomes and reduce costs. This collaborative care network approach strengthens relationships between health plans, hospitals, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) facilities, post-acute care facilities, and other behavioral and mental health providers to deliver consistent evidence-based care, while maximizing the impact of a limited behavioral health workforce. In our first episode, Dr. Ben Zaniello, Chief Medical Officer, PointClickCare, will share how the entire healthcare ecosystem has a role and a responsibility to connect to help patients access behavioral health services across the continuum of need. Then, we'll discover how University of Virginia Health is using technology to help patients with chronic medical and behavioral health conditions get the care they need, when they need it to improve outcomes and decrease costs associated with unnecessary hospitalizations and readmissions. Mike Wessinger is Co-Founder and Executive Chair of the Board of Directors at PointClickCare, the #1 cloud-based healthcare software provider helping long-term and post-acute care (LTPAC) providers. As of July 2022, PointClickCare generates more than US$ 500 million in annual revenue and has been growing by about 20 percent a year. Mike sits down with Scott to discuss how to build a work culture that encourages people to stay and grow.
At some point in our lives—perhaps many points—we will pass through a long-term or post-acute care (LTPAC) facility. But these facilities are afterthoughts in our health care system, and were excluded in particular from the huge digitization of health care triggered in the United States by the 2009 HITECH act and 2010 Affordable Care Act. In this video, you can hear about the technologies and regulations needed in LTPAC from Bill Charnetski, Executive Vice President, Health System Solutions and Government Affairs at PointClickCare. Dave Wessinger started PointClickCare in his garage alongside his brother Mike. They started the company with the goal of improving senior care through software and digitization. What began as a garage startup became Dave's life work as he has now been working on this mission for 25+ years. Today, PointClickCare has over 1500 employees and powers over 65% of nursing homes in the markets they have entered. Dave Wessinger joined Scott Britton and Andrei Newman on the Built By Humans podcast to discuss data transparency in healthcare, bootstrapping for 15 years, and why prioritizing growth in a company's early phases is critical to success. Here are some key takeaways: Achieving data transparency in healthcare is a regulatory challenge more than it is a technical one. Great team dynamics drive outsized outcomes more frequently than individual talent. Taking on large customers before you are ready is the only way to grow to a point where you will be able to service them in a satisfactory manner in the future. When evaluating a role, people should aim to identify whether a company is a growth business or a lifestyle business. Prioritizing your people should always be P1. If you do, they will make sure to take care of your customers.
