Building a company isn’t easy, and neither is selling one. Hear from local entrepreneurs-turned-Tech Coast Angels investors about the trials and tribulations they faced selling their own companies. TCA is the largest angel investment group in the country that has fueled new innovative companies since 1997, with one of its most active memberships in San Diego. Read more about the entrepreneurs featured on the podcast below: Moderator Dean Rosenberg received funding from TCA in an early phase of a past business and has been an angel ever since. Since exiting, Dean has been an active member of the organization and is currently working as COO at Powur. Nii A. Ahene sold his company, CPC Strategies to Tinuiti, which had grown organically without any external funding. Nii capitalized on the growing internet market to foster this growth and continues to do so at Tinuiti. Alessandra Lezama holds an impressive selling record with four completed in the last 20 years. Alessandra talks about how each sale requires a different approach, but negotiation is key regardless. Recently, she started TOOTRIS, which is working to make childcare affordable, convenient, and on-demand. Mike Wilson sold his family’s business AdvisoryWorld Financial Technology. He explains how they were not preparing to complete a sale when several of the company’s clients reached out with interest. It was eventually acquired by LPL Financial, where he currently serves as Executive Vice President. Al Bsharah sold Email Copilot twice, with the intention of only landing at Seismic. The technology was sold to Return Path, but was ultimately acquired by Seismic, where almost all of his team still works. Al talks about how his goal is to keep the entrepreneur vibe, even at larger companies. Tim Rout brought WiFi to military bases across the country with a previous company and was recently recruited to do the same for national parks. Access Parks has seen large growth in the past year as people have shifted to spending more time outdoors during the pandemic Keep up with TCA: Website LinkedIn Facebook: @techcoastangels Thanks to our partners at Cox Business for their support in enabling us to grow the San Diego ecosystem.

Jonathan Budd was an internet entrepreneur making millions and living a fantastic lifestyle…but he wasn’t happy. Then he accepted an invitation from Jim Bunch 6 years ago to travel deep into to the amazon rainforest where he had a vision to change the world. He came back to the US and started a public benefit company called Powur with a mission to “Accelerate the adoption of clean energy worldwide”. That mission has led Jonathan and the Powur team on an epic adventure to overcome incredible personal challenges… including the loss of his mother who was the VP of operations… multiple business model pivots and near deaths of the company… to now becoming the first company to raise $1M in a reg crowdfunding campaign in 28 days.. the first company to offset all the emissions from the industrial manufacturing of all the equipment… and hitting revenues in excess of 7 figures a week… You’re also hear from one of his top impact investors, Dean Rosenburg, who is the past president of Tech Coast Angels San Diego. Dean shares his 2 key factors that influenced his decision to initially invest in Powur…and the 2 things he looks for in early stage investments and how powur is making the competitor irrelevant. Game On! Jim Bunch
By now we have all heard of Powur and their solar platform. If you have heard of them then you probably know all the good and bad things have said about their platform. With those questions in mind, I interviewed the Vice President of Sales for Powur and one of their leading reps Charles Thompson on what they are all about. Take a listen.
Today’s guest is the founder and CEO of Powur, Jonathan Budd. On the show, we learn how the success journey Jonathan has been on is by no means been linear. He shares how a deep sense of disconnection with himself caused by wounds early in life led to him living a gangster thug-type lifestyle at a very young age. It wasn’t until he had an awakening, while looking down the barrel of a gun at the age of 20, that his life started to change and he began to find a sense of purpose and direction. He found enormous success doing online marketing in the early days of Facebook advertising. By age 26 he had already earned $10,000,000, making him one of the fastest and youngest success stories in the history of direct sales. He then founded Empowered Entrepreneurs to teach others the principles of entrepreneurship and modern-day marketing. Ultimately, Jonathan decided to leave the online marketing space because it wasn’t providing fulfillment. He reveals how a life-changing experience in Mexico helped him his true life purpose. We discuss how all of these breakthrough movements made him the person he is today. Jonathan is very direct and does not censor his life story so you will hear all of this raw and uncensored. We discuss the painful loss of his mother, why he believes most entrepreneurs fail, what he means we he talks about the importance of going deep, and why he says energy management is the most crucial success habit he practices. We also learn about the vision for the Foundation he established to help move the needle in our quest to get off of fossil fuels. As you can see, this one is jam-packed so I hope you enjoy this episode of Insight Out.Organization referenced in the show:https://www.pachamama.org/Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=23010497)
Powur Interview With Edgardo Gonzalez - The Income & Impact Has Never Been Better by Powur PBC
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Matthew Britt is an experienced entrepreneur. Matthew’s goal was always to be job free before his 30th birthday and that was successfully achieved at 29 years old when he resigned from being a personal trainer with GoodLife Fitness. After bringing a solar referral company called Powur to Canada in early 2017, Matt found that there was a need for home and business owners to take control of their energy from how it’s made to where it comes from. Matt oversees all company operations alongside COO Forrest Vetter-Wilson and utilizes his connections to continually establish partnerships. In this conversation with Casey Grey, Matt talks about his dad and his first taste of entrepreneurial life entering the network marketing world. He talks about a conversation with his chiropractor that inspired the "Let's hug it out" brand and his daring jump into the solar industry at at time when many in the industry were leaving. Listen to his story and his advice on how to break up with your negative friends!... Jeff Rollon has always been an entrepreneur Always hungry for more. He was that kid that was always in trouble, almost even got deported. He learned who he doesn't want to be around by seeing the people he was friends with. When he moved, he was able to completely leave that negative environment. "Who you hang around is going to shape your life and ultimately your future." A lot of the people are either in jail or dead, and teaching their kids the same thing. he made a decision to join the Navy and that discipline and structure helped him. Transitioned out of the military because he wasn't feeling any growth. Realized he didn't want to have a job. His big dream: Leaving a legacy with his kids. To impact his kids in a positive way. That there are other options than the 40 hour a week life. His goal is rich 100 Million people = Now it's 1 Billion people He spends time with entrepreneurs, people that are driven. If you're around those negative people and put yourself out there into a different environments. Mastermind group is the most important. You can break up with those negative friends slowly, start spending more and more time with positive people. How to avoid the negative entrepreneurs, stay away from the "sell sell sell" ones. "Filter out the people who call themselves entrepreneurs but really are not." "Results prove that words don't mean anything." "If a two year old can say that they're going to do something, anyone can say they're going to do something and it has no value." Spend time with the people you know will take action. He wants to be traveling the world, on stage, making an impact and visiting orphanages. His biggest influencer would be: Tony Robbins and Stephen Dela Cruz. Lead Me - Follow Me - Or Get The HELL Out Of My Way. Jeff says you can really feel it when you spend time with the negative people, the people who just wants to suck your energy. People have approached him just to see what he is doing because he has a different vibe. He is in the process of writing a book.
