Just in time for trick-or-treating, here are my picks for the scariest stories to ever air on "radio's outstanding theater of thrills." Orson Welles takes a long drive with an uninvited guest in "The Hitch-hiker" (originally aired on CBS on September 2, 1942), and Robert Taylor soon regrets moving into "The House in Cypress Canyon" (originally aired on CBS on December 5, 1946). Ralph Edwards goes on a "Ghost Hunt" (originally aired on CBS on June 23, 1949) and Cary Grant picks a bad spot to run out of gas in "On a Country Road" (originally aired on CBS on November 16, 1950). Finally, Vincent Price faces off against an army of rats in "Three Skeleton Key" (originally aired on CBS on November 11, 1956).
Ralph Edwards former Victorian President of the CFMEU and BLF member speaks at migrant workers meeting in Melbourne on the attacks on the CFMEU, lessons for workers and the hostory of the BLF deregistration campaign.
Welcome to the Monday Breakfast show for the 7th of October 2024, dedicated entirely to speaking about Palestine, Palestinian resistance, and contextualising October 7th 2023 within a larger history of Israel's apartheid and genocide against Palestine. In this show you'll hear: First up today, we will be listening to the first article from Issue Three of The Sunday Paper, and about the events of October 7th and the Palestinian Resistance doctrine. These topics are of particular importance to Issue Three, in which the editorial statement states “While outwardly supportive of Palestinian rights, and perhaps even self described as radically anti-colonial, many progressive publishers, platforms and organisations will quietly erase words like ‘martyr' or ‘intifada' and will quickly withdraw their support at the mention of armed liberation struggle”.You can go back and listen to the full editorial statement in the introductory episode, for a complete explanation of Issue Three's conceptual basis here. The piece we are featuring today, titled 'Tarakum' was written by a Palestinian PhD candidate in political science who wrote this analysis on the events of October 7 2023, under the pseudonym ‘Nabil Mustafa'. Read by Jeanine Mohanned, and with theme music from DOBBY, and includes the track the track ‘Liberation of Palestine', performed by Bilal and Khader Al-Ahmad. This episode was produced on Wurundjeri land, which was invaded, stolen and remains under occupation. Colonial violence continues as does Indigenous Resistance. Support the project by subscribing to their substack and gaining full access to their podcasts.Following that, Rob had an extended interview with Mai Saif, local Palestinian organiser who has been campaigning and fighting for justice for over a decade. They spoke about the Free Palestine movement here in Naarm, how life has changed for Palestinian activists over the past year, and what it has been like to organise a year of consistent rallies advocating for a free Palestine. We then hear speeches from the Sunday Free Palestine Rally on the 6th of October: Senator Lidia Thorpe spoke on the parallels between Palestinian and Australia Aboriginal genocide, before giving the floor to her uncle, Uncle Robbie Thorpe for an unexpected speech after spending 3 weeks in hospital. After, fellow Aboriginal activist and academic Professor Gary Foley took to the stage with a scathing rebuke of Australian Government hypocrisy. Finally, Rob spoke with Esther from the Flood The Post Campaign, which is a push to send as many physical postcards to MPs around this continent in order to pressure them to take meaningful action on Palestine. You can find out more about their campaign here and pick up a Flood The Post postcard at the reception desk of 3CR at 21 Smith Street in 'Fitzroy' during business hours. The show ends with a list of community announcements, mostly based around October 7th: Monday night from 6pm: Vigil for Gaza to commemorate the first anniversary of the first bombs dropped on Gaza in Israel's current genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people. October 7 2023 also marks the first day Israel transformed Gaza from an 'open-air prison' into a 'graveyard for children'. No ministers, no Victorian Premier, no Prime Minister will join this multifaith, multicultural vigil. Wear your kufiya, wear black and respect the silent procession which starts at the Marquis of Linlithgow monument, corner of Anzac Avenue, and St Kilda Rd from 6pm sharp. There will also be a vigil this Friday the 11th of October at Federation Square from 6:30pm. The event organised by Free Palestine Melbourne is an event to grieve the many thousands of victims at the hands of Israel's violence. On Palestine National Day, the 1st of November, at 6pm Fed Square will see an event recognising Palestinian identity as a form of resistance. On Thursday evening the Migrant Workers Coalition hosts a public forum speaking about what's going on with the CFMEU. The forum will cover what the Labor Party's attacks on the CFMEU means for workers rights everywhere, how it will impact the real working and living conditions of tens of thousands of people and what we can do about it. Speakers include Ralph Edwards, Former presidentt of the Victoria CFMEU Construction and General Division and former BLF member; Sanja Markoska, CFMEU Construction worker and delegate; Guy Rundle, co-ordinating editor at Arena Quarterly and correspondent at large for Crikey. The forum will take place at 583 High St Thornbury from 6:30pm.

Mail Call was an American radio program that entertained American soldiers from 1942 until 1945, during World War II. Lt. Col. Thomas A.H. Lewis (commander of the Armed Forces Radio Service) wrote in 1944, "The initial production of the Armed Forces Radio Service was 'Mail Call,' a morale-building half hour which brought famed performers to the microphone to sing and gag in the best American manner." The program featured popular entertainers of that day, such as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, and Dinah Shore, performing musical numbers and comedy skits to boost the morale of soldiers stationed far from their homes. Lewis added, "To a fellow who has spent months guarding an outpost in the South Seas, Iceland or Africa a cheery greeting from a favorite comedian, a song hit direct from Broadway, or the beating rhythm of a hot band, mean a tie with the home to which he hopes soon to return Listen to our radio station Old Time Radio https://link.radioking.com/otradio Listen to other Shows at My Classic Radio https://www.myclassicradio.net/ Remember that times have changed, and some shows might not reflect the standards of today's politically correct society. The biggest names in Hollywood and Broadway recorded for AFRS during the war years, The American Forces Network can trace its origins back to May 26, 1942, when the War Department established the Armed Forces Radio Service (AFRS). The U.S. Army began broadcasting from London during World War II, using equipment and studio facilities borrowed from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The first transmission to U.S. troops began at 5:45 p.m. on July 4, 1943, and included less than five hours of recorded shows, a BBC news and sports broadcast. That day, Corporal Syl Binkin became the first U.S. Military broadcasters heard over the air. The signal was sent from London via telephone lines to five regional transmitters to reach U.S. troops in the United Kingdom as they prepared for the inevitable invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Fearing competition for civilian audiences the BBC initially tried to impose restrictions on AFN broadcasts within Britain (transmissions were only allowed from American Bases outside London and were limited to 50 watts of transmission power) and a minimum quota of British produced programming had to be carried. Nevertheless AFN programmes were widely enjoyed by the British civilian listeners who could receive them and once AFN operations transferred to continental Europe (shortly after D-Day) AFN were able to broadcast with little restriction with programmes available to civilian audiences across most of Europe (including Britain) after dark. As D-Day approached, the network joined with the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to develop programs especially for the Allied Expeditionary Forces. Mobile stations, complete with personnel, broadcasting equipment, and a record library were deployed to broadcast music and news to troops in the field. The mobile stations reported on front line activities and fed the news reports back to studio locations in London. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Entertainment Radio Stations Live 24/7 Sherlock Holmes/CBS Radio Mystery Theater https://live365.com/station/Sherlock-Holmes-Classic-Radio--a91441 https://live365.com/station/CBS-Radio-Mystery-Theater-a57491 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sigourney Weaver is one of the greatest movie stars of all time, and many of us think of her as the tough, no-nonsense screen heroines she has played in films from Alien to Avatar. But that’s not how she saw herself as a girl growing up in Manhattan, where she was Susan, the shy, bookish daughter of a dynamic set of parents in that whirling scene of trailblazers in television’s first golden age. In this revealing episode, hear how she found empowerment roaming the streets of New York and attending an all-girls high school where she discovered her name. Welcome to another episode of The Words Matter Podcast. In this episode of the CauseHealth Series I'm speaking with Professor Ivor Ralph Edwards about his Chapter 9 of the CauseHealth book (download for FREE here) titled Causality and Dispositionality in Medical Practice (read his chapter here). Ralph is Professor of Medicine and Senior Advisor (and Former Director) at the Uppsala Monitoring Centre, the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring. He has worked in clinical toxicology in the fields of drug abuse, acute and chronic poisoning, toxicity from industrial chemicals as well as adverse drug reactions. He now works on medical and legal aspects of causality evaluation, as well as issues of risk and benefit evaluation and data mining approaches to support signal detection and evaluation. In this episode we talk about: Ralph's view of causation early in his career as a medical career. His role in leading the global work to improve clinical reporting on possible side-effects. We talk about how when working on medicine safety globally, he sees that different dispositions in different population groups affect how they response to medicines. Ralph gives us examples from his own clinical work where some of the dispositionalist features of causality have been important. We discuss the time it takes for a causal story to emerge. Finally we discuss the problem of relying too much on quantitative evidence and statistics to measure and standardise medical practice and treatments. It was pleasure speaking with Ralph. He has a vast and varied experience in medicine, and it was great to hear the role that causal dispositionalism has played in his work. His many anecdotes, great sense of humour and a voice for a podcasting, made the conversation all the more enjoyable. If you liked the podcast, you'll love The Words Matter online course and mentoring to develop you clinical practice - ideal for all MSK therapists.Follow Words Matter on:Instagram @Wordsmatter_education @TheWordsMatterPodcastTwitter @WordsClinicalFacebook Words Matter - Improving Clinical Communication★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

One of the greatest pleasures of being an elementary music teacher is being able to pour into the lives of your students each and every day. But, one of the hardest parts is when they leave you and move on to middle school, high school, and beyond. In this podcast episode, I get the opportunity to talk to one of my former students Ralph. He talks about his experience in going from elementary school to being a full time worship pastor and pursuing music as a career. We also talk about his experience as a black student with white teachers and those times he felt like he was unseen by certain teachers One thing Ralph says that I love is how teachers don't know how many seeds you're planting in the lives of your students right now. You don't know the fruit that those seeds will bear one day either. The teachers he remembers the most are the ones who took the time out to form relationships with him, gave him understanding, and didn't just teach the content. Ralph Edwards is a professional musician and creative in the Central Arkansas area. Originally from Tulsa, OK, he developed a passion for music and the arts at an early age, leading him to a full time career in music today. He serves as the Worship Pastor at That.Church in Sherwood, AR. You can connect with Ralph here: Facebook Instagram Email Register for the upcoming FREE 5 day "Start the School Year Off Right" challenge here I'd love for you to leave a rating and a review of the podcast on I-tunes, be sure to share the podcast with any music teacher friends who would find it helpful and be sure to tag me on Instagram or Facebook.

On October 7th, 1971 Chuck Schaden interviewed famous host and emcee Ralph Edwards about his life and career (full interview here - http://www.speakingofradio.com/interviews/edwards-ralph/). During the course of the conversation Mr. Edwards explained how he found himself at CBS in New York very early in his career after giving radio up on the West Coast.
In the state of New Mexico, there is a small town by the name of Truth or Consequences. The name change happened in 1950 to coincide with a game show hosted by Ralph Edwards. The residents of this town are the first to admit that after the name change, weird things began to happen daily. To this day the town is known as a "Weird Town with Weird Happenings."There was not a Truth or Consequences town or game show when Paul was writing his love letters to the Church. But there certainly were some weird things happening within the towns and churches. In his second letter, John is warning the believers that deceivers had gone out into the world and how they should watch themselves because of the falsehoods being spread about Jesus and His teachings. John is encouraging those believers to continue walking in Truth and Love or there will be serious consequences ahead. John's warning is just as important for us to hear today. Join us as we see how Truth and Love should characterize our everyday walk with the Lord lest we face the consequences that may lie ahead.
It's Halloween, and our star this week headlines one of the scariest shows Suspense ever aired. Ralph Edwards, best known as the jovial host of madcap game shows, stars as a radio DJ narrating his trip through a haunted house in "Ghost Hunt" (originally aired on CBS on June 23, 1949). Then, we'll hear him as host of Truth or Consequences in a Halloween-themed episode (originally aired on NBC on October 30, 1948). Finally, in the spirit of the season, we'll hear a bonus episode from the horror anthology Quiet Please - the classic radio chiller "The Thing on the Fourble Board" (originally aired on Mutual on August 9, 1949).
