Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley and Sherrod Small 3/22Joined by Vic Henley, the Mad Cube, and culinary maestro Carl Ruiz, the studio is buzzing with hilarious debates and nostalgic tales. They dive into a spirited discussion about music covers, sparked by a bluesy rendition of the Beastie Boys' classic by The Record Company. Is it a tribute or a travesty? The gang spars over whether iconic tracks like 'American Pie' or 'Stairway to Heaven' should ever be touched, with Carl staunchly defending the originals and Vic championing creative spins. From there, the conversation spirals into uproarious stories of youthful mischief—think roller-skating escapades with glitter wheels, Central Park's eccentric skaters, and Opie's days as a golf caddy pulling off 'Black Ops' pranks, like tossing golf balls and snapping putters during high-stakes matches. The crew doesn't stop there, diving into heartfelt and frustrating memories of family, shady business deals, and entrepreneurial dreams gone awry, all laced with their signature irreverent humor. It's a rollercoaster of laughs, nostalgia, and raw storytelling that'll keep you hooked! The final year of my radio journey holds a special place in my heart, made even more poignant by the loss of my cherished friends, Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley. Reflecting on that time, I rediscovered the pure passion and exhilaration that drew me to radio in the first place. Amidst the chaos and challenges, we found endless moments of hilarity and camaraderie. Alongside Carl, Vic, and Sherrod Small, we shared unforgettable experiences both on and off the airwaves, our tight-knit bond shining through every episode. That year also marked Carl Ruiz's meteoric rise to stardom, inspiring me to launch the Opie Radio podcast with him. I'm immensely grateful to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul, and Louis for joining us on this wild ride. Get ready to dive into the rollercoaster of emotions—the highs, the lows, and the laugh-out-loud moments—that defined my last year in radio.

I've been focusing a lot in the past year or two on spoken audio, like podcasts, audio book narrating, voice-overs, etc. And I realize I've been neglecting all the musicians! Recording music is the only reason I learned audio recording in the first place. So starting now, I'm going to shift back to helping people record music at home. The Record Company is one of the most exciting modern blues-rock bands, blending raw energy with soulful grooves. Their stripped-down, no-frills approach to rock is reminiscent of classic acts like The Rolling Stones and John Lee Hooker, yet they bring a fresh, contemporary edge. With gritty vocals, punchy rhythms, and infectious hooks, they've carved a unique space in today's rock landscape. Their music exudes authenticity, drawing listeners in with its heartfelt storytelling and foot-stomping beats. Whether on record or live, The Record Company delivers high-energy performances that prove rock and blues are as powerful and relevant as ever. In this rendition of The Way Out I'm ecstatic to bring you my interview with person in long term recovery and loyal listener of this podcast, CC. CC shares his journey to and through Recovery to this point with us with an enthusiasm and candor that's as relatable as it is inspiring. As most of you well know by now, we here at The Way Out Podcast are tireless advocates that all pathways to Recovery are valid and worth elevating. CC recovered through Smart Recovery, which as we learn has many parallels to the 12 Steps and indeed other recovery pathways. One of the biggest recovery truths that came out of CC's recovery story is that in many ways we have a relationship with our substance of choice, one that in one way or another starts out at least in part beneficially. Maybe we like the way we feel when we use it better than when we don't. Maybe it numbed emotional or physical pain or both. For some, like yours truly and certainly CC and maybe you too, the relationship turns toxic and the pain and suffering it inflicts upon us becomes increasingly greater than any benefit we are able to derive from using the substance or engaging in the addictive behavior. As instructive is CC's mantra that we indeed have a choice not to drink today, a choice to live in recovery today, a choice to live happy, joyous and free – just like CC has chosen to do as you'll hear first hand in the tremendous discussion that's about to unfold before your very ears so listen up.   CC's 3 Year Reddit Post: https://reddit.com/r/SMARTRecovery/s/jvK83pvOH7 Smart Recovery Subreddit: https://reddit.com/r/SMARTRecovery/s/knaJIHBdVa More information on Smart Recovery: https://www.smartrecovery.org/ Recovery Literature (quit-lit) Recommendation:  Smart Recovery Handbook version 3 https://shop.smartrecovery.org/products/smart-recovery-handbook-3rd-edition-new-cover Best piece of Recovery advice: You alone can do it but you can't do it alone. Recording From '75 Found In Closet, Record Company Releases As A Single#newmusic #thelimits #boxtops #hermanshermits #ricklevy #flowerpower #60smusic #theletter #rachel #record #musician #guitarist Luxury Records (distributed by Cleopatra Records) is very pleased and proud to announce the release of perhaps the most special and significant song from THE LIMITS called “Rachel.” Perennial popmeisters, THE LIMITS have gained a worldwide cult following with their original songs filled with brilliant hooks, jangle guitars, and clean tight production.Written in 1975 by Limits leader RICK LEVY, “Rachel” is the true story of the loss of a baby girl at birth by Rick and his then wife. The song was long forgotten until Limits co-founder Rook Jones, found some demo singles, and sent them to Levy. After sending to Cleopatra Records (the Limits label), President Brian Perera immediately asked to release the song because of how hauntingly beautiful and powerful it is. Hello Fresh - www.hellofresh.com/opie16 promo code "opie16" for 16 free meals across 7 boxes and 3 free gifts Day 17  - Vic Henley, Chris Distefano and the Record Company I now cherish the last year of radio I did especially with the passing of my dear friends Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley.  I was able to come to the realization why I went into radio all those years ago.  It was for the fun and pure joy of it.  The last year was filled with ugliness, drama and a ton of laughter.  Me, Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley and Sherrod Small had the time of our lives on and off the radio show.  Our close friendships was on full display.  The last year also saw Carl Ruiz blossom into a superstar which led me to do the Opie Radio podcast with him.  A special thanks to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul and Louis for going on this ride with us.  Hope you enjoy the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the last year of radio I did. We had the pleasure of interviewing Valleyheart over Zoom video!Massachusetts trio VALLEYHEART, who craft dynamic, cinematic alternative rock earmarked by lyrical eloquence and sweet melodies, recently released their second album Heal My Head, via Tooth & Nail.Valleyheart continue to build an emotional bond with audiences everywhere. Following the 2017 Nowadays EP, they deepened this connection with their debut album, Everyone I've Ever Loved, in 2018. “Friends In The Foyer” eclipsed 877K Spotify streams as the band took home “Rock Artist of the Year” at the 2019 Boston Music Awards. On its heels, the Scenery EP arrived to widespread acclaim. FLOOD noted, “they explore powerful, accessible soundscapes in an adequately sized package,” and Substream Magazine hailed them as “equal parts boldness and beauty.” Throughout 2020 and 2021, they assembled what would become Heal My Head at sessions at The Halo Studio in Portland, ME with longtime collaborator and co-producer Kevin Billingslea and at The Record Company in Boston, MA. Kevin Billingslea and Kevin Klein co-engineered, co-produced, and co-mixed the album, with a portion of the record being self-produced by Klein at his home studio. We want to hear from you!
