This podcast episode offers just a preview of the comprehensive, science-backed health insights Dr. Roshani Sanghani will share at the 9th Annual San Diego Symposium for Metabolic Health, August 15-18. Don't miss this opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge and interact with leading experts in metabolic health. This year's symposium will feature a full day, Thursday, August 15th, dedicated to exploring the connection between mental health and metabolic disease. Endocrinologist Dr. Roshani Sanghani recently sat down with Doug Reynolds for a compelling podcast interview, discussing her innovative approach to diabetes management and her upcoming participation in the LowCarbUSA 9th Annual San Diego Symposium for Metabolic Health from August 15-18. Dr. Roshani, who has become a leading voice in the field of endocrinology, shares her profound journey and introduces her new book, Turn around Diabetes: The Step-by-Step Guide to Navigate Type 2 (and Type 1) Diabetes with Less Medication. A Transformative Approach to Endocrinology Dr. Roshani's medical career began in Mumbai, India, where she completed her medical degree before moving to the United States. She is board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. Her practice evolved significantly during the pandemic, transitioning to a 100% virtual model, which she continues to implement successfully. “I've always been interested in the mind-body connection,” she explains. “Endocrinology became a natural space for me because hormones directly link our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Helping that system stay in balance through mindfulness, lifestyle changes, and medication when needed became my passion.” Turning Diabetes Management on Its Head Her shift towards a lifestyle-first practice was catalyzed by a patient in Mumbai who was struggling with uncontrolled diabetes. “This patient was labeled non-compliant because he refused insulin. Instead of ending the relationship, I suggested he reduce his carbohydrate intake. A year later, he was well-managed with just one tablet,” she recounts. This experience ignited her journey toward emphasizing lifestyle changes over medication. Her approach focuses on empowering patients through motivational interviewing, a technique that encourages patients to discover their own motivations for change. “Patients come to us because they want to get better, not stay sick. Motivational interviewing flips the model from compliance to empowerment, helping patients make sustainable changes,” she says. An Advocate for Behavioral Change Dr. Roshani's upcoming book, "Turn Around Diabetes," explores the behavioral aspects of managing diabetes. She emphasizes the importance of addressing psychological barriers and equipping patients with strategies to overcome them. “This book is meant to be a companion for anyone with diabetes, aiming to prevent diabetes, or seeking a healthier lifestyle. It's about overcoming obstacles in nutrition, sleep, stress management, and exercise,” she explains. Using the analogy of a “lifestyle car,” she describes how nutrition, sleep, stress management, and exercise are the four wheels that keep us moving forward. “Life is dynamic, and our journey will have its ups and downs. It's about continuous adaptation and navigating through challenges,” she notes. Joining Forces with LowCarbUSA Dr. Roshani is thrilled to be a speaker at the upcoming LowCarbUSA Symposium. “I'm excited to meet everyone in person and share insights on how behavioral change can significantly impact diabetes management,” she says. Her talk promises to be a highlight, given her reputation for delivering engaging and informative presentations. Doug praised her contributions, noting, “One of the best talks we've had was by Dr. Roshani. Her ability to prepare engaging content and provide deep insights is unmatched. We're looking forward to her talk next month.” Listen to the full podcast interview to gain deeper insights into her approach and philosophy. Her new book, "Turn Around Diabetes," will be available at the LowCarbUSA Symposium, providing attendees with practical strategies to navigate diabetes with less medication.

Renowned endocrinologist Dr. Roshani Sanghani believes that the battle against diabetes will be won not with more medication, but less. She joins us from India to discuss her unique approach to combating this global health crisis. Dr. Sanghani's "lifestyle-first "philosophy stresses cultural understanding and patient education over heavily-prescribed medicines. As you'd expect, her approach is making waves, as well as getting extraordinary results. Is carbohydrate restriction a viable treatment for diabetes or is it merely a controversial theory? Dr. Sanghani challenges conventional guidelines because it often overlooks the role of diet in disease management. We ask her why the medical community resists this therapeutic approach. She touches upon possible reasons, such as conflict of interest and cognitive bias, and emphasizes her call for a more comprehensive, patient-centric approach to treatment. Finally, Dr. Sanghani shares some good news about her upcoming book on diabetes management, which she hopes will help revolutionize the current approach to diabetes. -----------------Connect with Dr. Sanghani WebsiteInstagramFacebookLinkedIn Chances are, you wouldn't be listening to this podcast if you didn't need to change your life and get healthier. In a compelling LowCarbUSA® podcast interview with host Doug Reynolds, Dr. Roshani Sanghani shares her multifaceted approach to managing a wide range of health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, thyroid issues, hormone imbalances, weight management, and other metabolic health conditions. An American board-certified endocrinologist, Dr. Sanghani brings 15 years of clinical experience to the table, alongside her own personal journey as a patient of hypothyroidism and pre-diabetes. This personal touch allows her a deep understanding of the struggles many patients face, including medication's side effects and escalating doses. Her philosophy? The true "magic pill" is lifestyle change. Her medical journey is as layered as her approach to healthcare. She grew up between Chicago and Mumbai, completing her medical training in both cities. Her career took a transformative turn when she encountered a type 2 diabetes patient with a dangerously high HbA1c level who refused insulin. "In a patient compliance model, the doctor holds the power and tells the patient what to do,” she told Doug. “I've worked to flip that to a patient empowerment model, where my knowledge as a doctor can empower the patient to decide what they want to do for themselves." To bolster her approach, Dr. Sanghani became a certified diabetes educator in the U.S., subsequently launching culturally relevant diabetes education classes in Mumbai. "I want to help you make lifestyle changes to reduce your medication,” she emphasized. One of her key strategies is addressing the nutritional imbalances many patients face, particularly in India, where vegetarianism is culturally prevalent. "One of the biggest challenges we have is protein deficiency," she noted. To tackle this and other chronic conditions more effectively, she shifted from "one-off" doctor visits to a model of ongoing, three-to-six-month coaching programs. She also calls attention to broader challenges in healthcare, particularly in India, criticizing a traditional, reactive model that is ill-suited for lifestyle-induced chronic diseases. While discussing the evolving attitudes toward a lifestyle-based approach to healthcare, she admitted her own evolving perspective. "I've sat across from patients probably until 2014, till my eyes opened. I used to convince patients they needed insulin therapy for progressive type 2 diabetes because I just didn't know better." She is forthright about the complexities of behavior change, calling it a piece that's often missing in healthcare. "Behavior change is extremely complex. So I took The SMHP™ training to be part of this community and am also working aggressively on coaching techniques." In summary, this interview provides a captivating look at a patient-centered, lifestyle-focused approach to healthcare. It presents a compelling case for a paradigm shift—one that empowers patients rather than merely prescribing to them. This podcast is a must-listen for those interested in sustainable healthcare solutions that tackle root causes instead of solely treating symptoms. You can find her on Instagram @roshanisanghani and through her website.
Roshani Chokshi is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate "The Spirit Glass," Roshani tells us this book is a middle-grade novel drawing from Filipino mythology and folklore, at its core a ghost story perfect for spooky season. Her middle grade Percy Jackson - sequel mythology series has finally come to a close, and we're here to celebrate Aru Shah, stories, and the beautiful belief system/mythology that shaped Roshani's books.
In this episode, Rishi is joined by special co-host Nuni and master baker Roshani. They discuss kids, Ro's business, travel, and Tobby during the football season.
The imperative need of wellness for entrepreneurs and organisations. Self care and Employee Wellness Building Energy Equity, with productivity, and growth, through Wholeistic Wellbeing
Roshani Chokshi used to imagine that she was secretly a princess that would soon be called upon to save the world. As an author she has written that character into life in the Aru Shah series. Roshani talks about her last book in the series, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, and how much she enjoyed writing this magical and modern tale. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then discuss the events of Aru Shah and the End of Time by Roshani Chokshi (with a designated spoiler section), as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 11 and 12. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (01:19:00) Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi is out in the world! Read our full review. Did you listen to our interview with Roshani Chokshi? Be sure to check out the accompanying article, too! Oh, and the Trials of Apollo series is in paperback now. And the Aru Shah and the End of Time graphic novel is out on April 19. Are you ready for #LightningThiefWeek? We're putting together playlists for the podcast, so if you haven't already, go listen to all of our Lightning Thief episodes. Don't forget about Daniel José Older's Ballad & Dagger tour! (Correction: The book comes out May 3!) Now it's time to break down Rick's latest blog post. Rick and Becky have been setting up their place in Vancouver, and we're jealous. Karen and Kristen get nerdy about props and costume design. Did you ever think about how the orange Camp Half-Blood shirts would show up on screen? The higher-ups are still happy, which is great and all, but we really want to see those monster mock-ups. We're all very excited about casting, and it's coming! We need to be patient and make sure we're not bugging Becky and Ashlee for information they can't give us yet! We have plans to do fancasting for some of the other big characters (like we did with Poseidon), but we're working against the clock! Oh, and here's our confirmation that Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1's episode count is eight. Plus, we get a little update on the Daughter of the Deep film, as well as the Solangelo book. Aru Shah and the End of Time (00:23:15) It's time to get into the first book in the Pandava series (spoiler-free until the end). What's it about, exactly? Kristen has a very accurate summary. This is the first time she's read one of Roshani's books, so…what did she think? Aru Shah is such a great character and has such an interesting relationship with the truth. And then there's Mini, who Kristen definitely relates to. Yes, she was that girl. We love Boo, even though he's a complex character. Karen is sure to avoid spoilers, but it's tough! Boo is totally in a Mushu situation, and we can't help but quote Mulan. Oh, and Boo has…taken pigeon form. Except we both picture him a little differently. The Sleeper is a pretty cool name for a villain. But he's also downright terrifying. There are a ton of other interesting characters from Hindu mythology that show up, too. Glory to Hanuman! Who doesn't love a good rhyming sage? Motion to make pre-winter a thing all around the world. Roshani's chapter titles rival Rick's for sure. A lot of stuff from End of Time comes full circle in Nectar of Immortality. Shout-out to both the weapons and the Night Bazaar. Our spoiler discussion starts at 1:02:57. If you want to avoid spoilers, jump to the timestamp for the Titan's Curse chapter reviews. We discuss the Sleeper's true identity. Did we guess who he was? Does the Sleeper have a point? Does he have a good argument? Karen asks what Kristen thought of the ending. Did we like the cliffhanger? We want to talk about Song of Death soon, but it'll probably have to wait a couple of months. There are just so many things we want to talk about right now! Chapter Reviews (01:10:53) It's time for Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapter 11. It's pretty neat that Zoë was there when Riptide was created. Prophecy Count: 15 Apollo gave us our new tagline. Something is definitely up with Bianca and Nico, but we're saving it for the next chapter. Why did Thalia make it sound like it was Percy's fault Annabeth was thinking about joining the Hunters? Do we know WHY Annabeth might want to join the Hunters? Who could've been the person with Zoë in the dream?? Apollo got super deep in this chapter, and Karen is into it. It's time to go snowboarding with a pig in Titan's Curse chapter 12. We get an explanation from Bianca about why she wanted to join the Hunters, but we don't really like it. Who really deserves the blame here?? What's going on with Nico and Bianca? Do we know who's responsible for all of this? Percy discovers Thalia's secret, and she's not too happy about it. There are cold areas in New Mexico. Who knew? We love that Grover's search for Pan is still a part of the series. When was the last time Zoë felt Pan's presence? Has Grover ever felt his presence as strong as this? We will single-handedly make sure Percy Jackson and the Olympians gets five seasons if we have to. Feedback (01:45:26) Becky loved our interview with Roshani Chokshi. Daniel also thought of another role Logan Lerman could take on in the show! Be sure to leave your comments so we can read them on air! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 28, where we'll do a deep dive on Zeus (plus tell you our fancasts). This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Welcome to Prophecy Radio, a Percy Jackson podcast dedicated to all of Rick Riordan's past, present, and future projects! Co-hosts Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz discuss the latest news in the Percy Jackson/Rick Riordan Presents fandom, then conduct an interview with none other than Roshani Chokshi ahead of the release of Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, as well as read Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse chapters 9 and 10. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:01:14) Kristen wonders, “What IS news?” but Karen is too tired to think about it. Roshani Chokshi is doing promo for Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality, including a video where she answers questions in 11 seconds or less as well as a quiz based on the Pandava series. Did you know it was also Grover Underwood Appreciation Week? It's 2022. Would Grover be vegan? By complete coincidence, they were also talking about Grover in the writer's room. This is your weekly reminder to be patient about casting news. Thanks to Rebecca Kuss, we'll be getting new YA Rick Riordan Presents books soon! Read Riordan published an article for Women's History Month between J.C. Cervantes and Tehlor Kay Mejia. Plus, there's an article about Baby Boo from Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Did you tell Becky what kind of behind-the-scenes content you want to see? We've probably got a blog post incoming! Roshani Chokshi interview (00:18:45) Today, we have a very special guest in Roshani Chokshi, who is here to promote the fifth and final book in the Pandava series, Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality. Our first question is whether Rosh has any quirky habits when it comes time to sit down and write. And what about special snacks? You'll NEVER guess her answer. Is there an editing critique that Rosh hates seeing in her drafts? Just like Greek mythology, Hindu mythology isn't always appropriate for the children. Rosh tells us what it's been like to kick off the Rick Riordan Presents imprint. What kind of doors populate Roshani's subconscious? Is there any chance Roshani will ever return to the world of Aru Shah? Plus, Rosh gives us an update on the Aru Shah adaptation. Can you guess what her Greek godly parent would be? And what Rick Riordan Presents series would Rosh want to visit? Wanda Maximoff: Misunderstood heroine or villain in the making? And we get to hear about her cursed dream project. (For real, though, it sounds awesome.) What other projects does Roshani have coming up? Buy Aru Shah and the Nectar of Immortality by Roshani Chokshi from Disney Books, Bookshop.org, Book Depository, or Amazon. You can also add it to your Goodreads list. Chapter Reviews (00:51:48) Let's get back to Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse, shall we? Shockingly, we're going to start with chapter 9. It's realistic that Mr. D caught Percy, but how DARE he act high and mighty! Does Mr. D actually want to care about Percy and Annabeth and the others? What's going on with Zoë and this mysterious hero who broke her heart? Where in the world is Annabeth? Do we remember who the General is? Can we have a saber-tooth kitty? Please? Now it's onto chapter 10, and we're halfway through the book. Zoë would be a better leader if she just listened to people. Have you ever eaten astronaut food? Percy is a smart cookie! Should we do an episode on the spoils of war? Proud of you, Zoë. Kronos is a four-course meal of evil. Feedback (01:20:23) Nicolaas really loves Troy, and Karen once again admits she needs to rewatch it. And Mr. Pink is reading the series for the first time in English. How exciting! Thanks for listening, and be sure to tune in next time for episode 27, where we'll discuss Aru Shah and the End of Time. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz.
