Our guest is Nobu Yamanashi who is the president of Yama Seafood based in New Jersey. Founded in 1980 by his father Kengo Yamanashi, Yama Seafood has been one of the most reliable sources of high-quality seafood in the U.S. for almost 45 years. Nobu joined us in Episode #245 in November 2021 to discuss why he decided to succeed the highly demanding job in the seafood business, the changing needs for seafood at New York City restaurants, why Yama Seafood had many employees who had worked for the company over 30 years and many other topics. Since then, plenty of new things have happened at Yama Seafood, reflecting the ever-changing demand for quality seafood and the environmental issues that affect the oceans. In this episode, we will discuss how Nobu is proactively dealing with the increasingly challenging issues caused by climate change, his efforts to educate consumers about seafood through social media, what seafood has potential for the future and much, much more!!!
First cast is Travis Dowling, CEO of the Victorian Fisheries Authority, on the proactive management of Black Sea Urchins in Victoria.
A conversation with Aaron Huang, founder of OoNee Sustainable Sea Urchin Ranch, to dive into the world of sea urchin ranching and its connections to high-end fish restaurants, many of which fly their sea urchins in from Japan. Over the past decade, a warm water blob off the U.S. West Coast has caused sea urchins to overgraze the kelp forests, leading to a massive population boom of urchins, the collapse of kelp ecosystems, and the rise of countless “zombie” sea urchins—urchins that prevent the kelp from regrowing without dying themselves. Why should we care? Because this phenomenon is happening everywhere—whether it's invasive species or extreme weather events, ecosystems are collapsing, and without smart intervention, they won't recover. In this case, the solution is to harvest the sea urchins threatening the remaining kelp, fatten them up, and sell them to the growing market for high-end seafood. What can we learn from this approach and apply to other ecosystems that are out of balance?---------------------------------------------------Join our Gumroad community, discover the tiers and benefits on www.gumroad.com/investinginregenag. Fossils can be found in nearly every part of the earth, though for some reason, they're often overlooked by crystal healers who are perhaps lacking the knowledge of all the fossil stone benefits they're missing out on! Perhaps it's because they often lack the bright colors and glittering, gemmy appearance of many crystals…or perhaps it's because many crystal workers are unsure of how to work with them. Whatever the reason, it's time to change that, because incorporating fossils into your crystal work can be deeply rewarding and fulfilling. Though the types of fossils vary, they do share a set of energetic qualities whether they're plant or animal fossils, no matter the mineral type. Individual fossil types have added properties, but all fossils share the following qualities: Common Healing Properties of Fossils: Enhances your connection with nature and its flora and fauna Promotes journey work Facilitates access to your past life memories Enhances communication with your guides Promotes energetic protection Connects you to your ancestors (familial, spiritual, land spirits, etc.) Facilitates grounding Connects you with the energy of the Earth element If you're interested in developing a relationship with fossils, here are a few of my favorites to explore… Top 5 Fossils for Crystal Healing: #1 - Ammonite Fossils for Crystal Healing Of all the fossils I've worked with, Ammonites may be my favorite. They're a type of cephalopod and their spiral formation evokes a mystical quality that humans have been attracted to for thousands of years. Ammonite fossils are particularly beautiful, and the best are found in Madagascar, England, and Peru. There are various legends and folklore surrounding Ammonite fossils. For example, in England, people referred to Ammonites as “snake stones.” The story behind this is that St. Hilda of Whitby (614-680) prayed for dangerous snakes to be turned to coiled stones, in order to clear the land for a convent (other versions of the lore say St. Hilda turned the snakes to stone to protect the nuns at Whitby Abbey). People believed these “snake stones” to be holy, or at least lucky, and wore them as charms, often with a snake head carved at the end. One genus of ammonites is still known as Hildoceras in the saint's honor. Properties of Ammonite Fossils: Promotes acceptance Facilitates spiritual journey work and inner work Enhances your connection with Goddess energy Facilitates past life recall Enhances your present moment awareness Facilitates animal communication Assists with receiving guidance from your ancestors Promotes grounding Enhances your connection to Earth energy and nature Aids in recalling your dreams or uncovering past life memories Assists in developing a regular meditation practice Learn more about Ammonite Fossils here. #2 - Belemnite Fossils for Crystal Healing Also known as Thunderstones, Belemnite Fossils are records of a type of squid-like Cephalopod that inhabited the earth from the Triassic period until the Cretaceous period. The “cone” is the most common fossilized portion of the creature, and they're often found in a sort of bullet- or horn-shaped fossil. Properties of Belemnite Fossils: Aids in decision-making Encourages you to take action Promotes mental clarity Assists with enhancing focus Enhances your connection to your inner voice Facilitates the process of receiving intuitive guidance #3 - Echinoid Fossils for Crystal Healing Echinoids are fossilized Sea Urchins that go by many colloquial names depending on their specific shape. According to Kenneth McNamara, some of the names used to describe them include Thunderstones, Shepherd's Crowns, Sheep's Hearts, Bishop's Knees, Fairy Heads, Fairy Loaves, Chedworth Buns, and Snake's Eggs. My favorite name for them is “Fairy Loaf” because they really do look like tiny little loaves...

We worked together for many years and from the moment I first met her I have always been inspired by her cool and calm demeanor coupled with her laser- focused attention to detail and ability to craft phenomenal wines from really unique vineyards. You'll hear about how this Michigan native found her way into wine, by way of France, and a funny story about what led her to transition from the vineyard (viticulture) side to the the winemaking (oenology) side in her education, which includes a Masters Degree from UC Davis. From St. Francis, to Pride Mountain Vineyards, Mondavi, Tamber Bay and Mullen Road Cellars, you'll hear the journey of her highly successful career and what she has learned along the way, as well as what she has just added to her already full working portfolio as of late! Sip Spotlight: We taste a fantastic wine from a local (to us) woman-owned wine brand and that leads to a super interesting discussion about being a female winemaker in an industry that is still every male driven. We even touch on how becoming a mom of 2 affected her tank-shoveling track record…. Kelp forests have a number of benefits to the coastal oceans: They provide a habitat for a diverse set of species; they provide food for species; and, they take up carbon dioxide more than land trees. But kelp forests are at risk as a predator that used to be a problem is becoming more of a problem and eating live kelp. We need healthy kelp forests for all of their benefits including reducing climate change. Therefore, it is crucial that we discuss what will help protect them. We had a great conversation with Chef Ron on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about his story, how he grew up, how he became a chef, he told some great stories to a whole lot more!Chef Ron Yan is the Executive Chef of Parcelle, a chic new wine bar on New York City's Lower East Side. The wine bar is the newest venture from veteran restaurateur and sommelier Grant Reynolds. At Parcelle, Chef Yan draws on his Chinese heritage and creates some of the most eccentric and inventive food in downtown Manhattan. Take, for example, his Giant Wild Mushroom Katsu with vegan XO Sauce and the luxurious lightly torched Raw Diver Scallop with Sea Urchin. The creativity, playfulness, and balance of Yan's dishes have captured the attention of national media. For example, his work at Parcelle's 2020 pop-up, The Parcelle Patio, was included in an article from Bloomberg on their most memorable meals of the year, and Vogue published a rave review, calling Parcelle “one of the coolest haunts on the Lower East Side.”
Upon Salisbury Plain - nestled amongst exploding ordnance and dim-witted Tawny Owl fledgelings - the child that would become Dr Amy-Jane Beer found both a love for nature and a love for adventure. Training originally as a biologist, Amy grew into one of Britain's best loved nature writers. Whether articles in British Wildlife, diary entires for the Guardian's ‘Country Diary', or her latest book “The Flow” (which explores our relationships with Britain's numerous wild water ways), Amy's writing exposes personal and oft-spiritual experiences to illuminate nature and science for wider audiences. An active participant of both the Right to Roam movement and the New Networks for Nature alliance (the former hoping to unlock the many health benefits attained through access to green spaces, and the latter exploring how creative inspiration can be drawn from British wildlife) Amy believes that a human right to linger, explore and create is “amazing compost” for the mind, body and soul. Amy is a scientist that places great value upon love, upon magic and upon the power of motherhood, as well as upon the intricacies of the radial symmetry of sea urchin larvae! Hopefully she will inspire you to seek the benefits of learning to trespass like a river. On his private space station high above Earth, Professor Burkhead has begun conducting a ground-breaking social experiment. Each week, his “Unifier” pairs together two unlikely creatures and puts them in a room together where the two subjects (an accountant and a giant squid, one week; a porcupine and a ballerina the next, etc) talk, debate, get to know each other, and maybe learn something new about themselves in the process. For more great podcasts, visit http://gzmshows.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
