We also dig into lemon pepper wings, birria mac & cheese, and the creative California Wine Cocktail. And of course, we couldn't skip the Mickey-shaped SNICKERS macaron. From there, it's off to Toontown for Runaway Railway, and a quick bite from Maurice's Treats before taking a well-earned break. Then Rhonda and I jump into a classic attraction tour: Adventureland Treehouse, Haunted Mansion, Pinocchio, Snow White, Storybook Land Canal Boats, and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin.Later, we unwind with drinks at the Broken Spell Lounge and then head to the Craftsman Bar for an unforgettable setting and experience including a inventive mocktails, Sticky Chicken Wings, and a the Charcuterie Pizza. We finish the night with Alice, Mad Tea Party, fireworks viewed from Galaxy's Edge, drinks at Oga's Cantina, a thrilling ride on Big Thunder, the always-amazing Fantasmic!, and Pirates of the Caribbean. This was one packed day—and we're breaking it all down, one bite, ride, and story at a time. We're excited to introduce Balanced Weather — your go-to source for smart, reliable weather updates tailored for Walt Disney World and all of Central Florida.CEO Alan Gerard, a meteorologist and lifelong Disney fan, has been providing weekly weather reports to the Main Street Magic community for years and will now be bringing you weekly forecasts, plus answers to your questions about weather for your upcoming Disney, Universal, or Florida vacation.Visit balancedweather.com/wdw-weather to learn more and get the latest updates.MEI-Travel – Expertise. On October 29, 2022, we held a special talk with women who made an indelible impact on some of Walt Disney Imagineering's most iconic and enduring projects. On part one of this special two-part episode of WD-FM, hear the stories of Peggie Farriss and Kathy Rogers—two contributing authors of Women of Walt Disney Imagineering. Peggie Fariss began her 50-year career at Disney as an Attractions Hostess on the Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland park. She was instrumental in the research for the EPCOT's Spaceship Earth attraction and later became WDI's liaison to corporate sponsors. Her experience representing WDI's artistic vision led to her final assignment as a creative development executive for Disneyland Paris, where for five years she led a team that doubled in size from 25 to 50. Kathy Rogers' career began in the Disneyland parking lot. She became an Attractions Lead and then was tapped to work for WDI at Disneyland in 1983. Working first as a coordinator, she rose through the ranks to the producer level, retiring as Executive Show Producer with attractions as diverse as Muppet*Vision 3D and Expedition Everest to her credit. Women of Walt Disney Imagineering is available now!

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - I think we can, I think we can take a ride on Disneyland's Casey Jr. Circus Train. Ride audio recorded on May 18, 2021. Review recorded February 7, 2019 TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we visit Fantasyland in Disneyland to ride Casey Jr. Circus Train. The Disneyland Resort website describes this attraction saying: Enjoy a whimsical tour through miniature versions of fairytale locales from classic Disney movies. There are no height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the attraction as being a slow ride. Before we ride along in the monkey cage, here are five fast facts about Casey Jr Circus Train. 1. Casey Jr Circus Train was a Disneyland opening day attraction opening with the park on July 17, 1955. However, the ride was closed the next day and remained closed through July 31st, 1955 for safety inspections. 2. Casey Jr. Circus Train takes guests on a tour of Storybook Land at a much quicker pace than the Storybook Land Canal Boats we covered back in episode 33. Along the way you see several famous sites from Disney films such as Frozen, Peter Pan, Snow White and more. 3. Casey Jr is a two foot (610 mm) narrow gauge internal combustion powered railroad designed by Arrow Development. 4. The sleigh style train cars were part of the King Arthur Carrousel before that attraction was modified to be all horses. 5. Actor Ray Templin provides the voice of the Ringmaster on the attraction. Let's head off to ride the Casy Jr. Circus Train. Suzie is joining me today and after we ride will give ou our thoughts on this Disneyland Classic. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we ride Disneyland's Casey Jr. Circus Train. This week, new cast member safety changes, more attractions return ahead of schedule, single rider lines have returned, Avengers Campus is more open, the last Disney Hotel is about to reopen, we talk to Evan about his time as a Cast Member, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. If you want some DLWeekly Swag, you can pick some up at https://www.dlweekly.net/store/. News: With the higher temperatures on the horizon for Southern California, a new safety policy couldn't come soon enough for cast members. Fully vaccinated cast members can now go mask free outdoors. Masks are still required for all cast members indoors for now. Physical distancing for all cast members, indoors or out has also been phased out. This will greatly help in tight spaces like kitchen areas around the resort. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/fully-vaccinated-disneyland-employees-no-longer-need-to-wear-masks-outdoors/ and https://www.micechat.com/294044-new-disneyland-procedures-start-june-15-masks-off-no-physical-distancing/ With all of the changes recently to all the safety protocols around the resort, MiceChat posted a guide to all the current policies. These include the new cast member guidelines we talked about previously in this episode, as well as theme park reservations sticking around for the foreseeable future, face coverings no longer required anywhere except for transportation like buses for fully vaccinated guests, un-vaccinated or partially vaccinated guests must still wear masks, physical distancing is no longer required, ride capacity is back at 100% without plexiglass shields, dining capacity has also been increased, indoor queues are back in service, both parking structures are open, out of state guests are allowed, no temperature checks are required, and entertainment has started to return. – https://www.micechat.com/294044-new-disneyland-procedures-start-june-15-masks-off-no-physical-distancing/ A sign that things are coming to an end with the pandemic is the return of single rider lines at a few attractions this week. Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Smuggler's Run, Star Tours, and Splash Mountain at Disneyland, and Radiator Springs Racers, the Incredicoaster, and Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure now allow single riders. This should help get as many guests on attractions and out of the lines faster. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/26/disneyland-brings-back-single-rider-lines-for-most-popular-attractions/ Some attractions have reopened earlier than expected in the last week! Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters and Storybook Land Canal Boats both welcomed guests a day or two early. Storybook Land Canal Boats look great and have had a number of their elements updated during the closure. Buzz Lightyear has not been updated and we have seen reports online that some of the attraction vehicles have been tagged out of service. Hopefully maintenance can get to them soon and get Buzz back to 100%! – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-video-buzz-lightyear-astro-blasters-soft-reopens-at-disneyland/ Some great news for guests who want to walk around and see Avengers Campus! The land is now open to everyone and the gates that were in place to control the amount of people in the new land have been removed. Guests can now freely enter the land from any of the three entrances. This is making the ability to get food and to enter stores very easy, with little to no wait on most days. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ For those of you visiting the parks soon, the crowds look to be great! Even though more people are allowed in the parks now, the wait times for attractions have been lower than they were before the lower capacity! This, along with the cast members getting back into the swing of things has made the process much smoother. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ There have been some rumors that cast members that generally work on parades have been called back to work. This could mean the return of Magic Happens sometime this summer, which only had a couple of weeks to run before the pandemic shut it down. – https://www.micechat.com/295081-disneyland-update-topsy-turvy-more-or-less/ The Disneyland hotel will begin a phased opening this week as the Fantasy Tower opens to guests. Along with the one tower, the two pools and the Monorail water slides will reopen, as well as the fitness center. The Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam's will also reopen to the public. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/12971/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_June_30__July_4_2021#news1 Construction has started in the park to prepare for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway. The facades of the Toontown Five & Dime and the Gag Factory have been demolished to make way for the new entrance for the attraction. Once completed, the new El Capitoon theater will take their place as the new entrance. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-video-toontown-five-dime-and-gag-factory-facades-demolished-as-mickey-minnies-runaway-railway-construction-continues-at-disneyland/ We previously reported that mobile scan and go shopping was being tested in World of Disney in Downtown Disney. Now, that system has been expanded into the parks at the Emporium in Disneyland, and Elias & Co. in Disney California Adventure. Guests will use the Disneyland app or scan a QR code in the store to enter the system, then grab a mobile checkout shopping bag and scan the barcodes with their smartphone cameras to add the item to their cart. Once done, guests check out through the app and show a QR code to a cast member on the way out of the store at a designated mobile checkout exit. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/disneyland-brings-scan-and-go-shopping-to-theme-park-stores/ Hollywood Land is the place for Avengers photo ops. A new Black Panther photo op has appeared this week in the land. It is the same setup used for the previous Black Panther meet and greet, but without the character this time, due to social distancing. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/photos-black-panther-photo-op-arrives-in-hollywood-land-at-disney-california-adventure/ Just a quick follow up to something that we talked about a couple of weeks ago. The food waste trashcans have been rolled out to more locations around the resort recently. If you have any food waste, please dump it in these new recepticals so it can be recycled and not just end up in the landfill. – https://www.ocregister.com/2021/06/25/disneyland-makes-tossing-out-leftover-food-a-little-less-wasteful/ and https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/06/disneyland-resort-expands-sustainability-efforts-with-new-food-waste-bins/ On June 27th, which was Global Pride Day, Salt & Straw donated 5% of all its proceeds to local LGBTQ+ charities. For the Downtown Disney location, Reach LA was the charity chosen. Reach LA works with young LGBTQ people of color to “increase self sustainability by encouraging creative expression, supporting safe spaces and promoting health and wellness.” – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/26/disneylands-salt-straw-celebrating-global-pride-day-by-donating-to-local-groups/ Another fun treat has made its way to Bing Bong's Sweet Stuff in Pixar Pier. The new Forky cake pop looks like a sweet version of the character himself. The cake pop is sweet vanilla covered in white chocolate, and decorated to look like Forky. Reviews have said that it is pretty moist and very sweet, so be aware of this. Forky costs $5.49. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/06/24/review-toy-story-fans-will-love-disneys-new-sweet-treat/ Donald Duck Commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6VVOmT0Vk8 Discussion Topic: Evan

Guests visit the island by traveling on a motorized raft which is piloted by a Disneyland Cast Member. The short 3D Jamboree features the famous Mouseketeers and their leader Jimmy Dodd. The presentation includes the animated shorts Melody and Working for Peanuts all in 3D. Storybook Land Canal Boats (originally known as Canal Boats of the World in 1955) features 13 boats (powered by outboard motors) afloat in 465,000 gallons of water.1958:Disneyland's Columbia ship opens on the Rivers of America. It is a full-scale version of the first ship to carry the American flag around the world. It actually was built in large part from the plans for the HMS Bounty (of mutiny fame). Disney's shipbuilders couldn't find plans for the original Columbia, so they relied heavily on those of Captain Bligh's ship, which had similar dimensions. It has cost $300,000 to build. Fowler's Harbor (named after Admiral Joseph Fowler, who helped to build Disneyland) is also officially opened on this day to dock the new ship. A dedication ceremony takes place with Fowler and Walt Disney himself in attendanceThe Disneyland attraction Alice in Wonderland debuts in Fantasyland. Actress, Kathryn Beaumont, voice of Alice in the 1951 animated movie, provides the voice for the dark ride. It follows the path of the movie, as the riders (as Alice) follow the White Rabbit down the Rabbit Hole into Wonderland. Disneyland's first "Alice" attraction - Mad Tea Party (a spinning tea cup ride), has been operating since the park's debut in July 19551959:Three major attractions are christened at Disneyland on this day:The first urban monorail system in the U.S., the Disneyland-Alweg Monorail System, begins operation in California's Disneyland. The two Mark I trains run on a .8 mile track around Tomorrowland. Walt Disney and U.S. Vice president Nixon and their families are on hand for the dedication of the "Highway in the Sky." (In June 1961, the Monorail will become a true transportation link instead of just a sightseeing ride. With an extended 2 1/2 mile track, Disneyland Hotel guests will be able to board the Monorail at the hotel and begin their park visit in Tomorrowland.)Also on this day at Disneyland, the Matterhorn Mountain with its Matterhorn Bobsleds, opens. Modeled after the Matterhorn, a real mountain in the Swiss Alps, it is the first roller coaster to use cylindrical rails and urethane wheels (which will become standard in the roller coaster industry). At 147 feet tall, the Matterhorn contains 500 tons of structural steel. The ride consists of two separate tracks that run somewhat parallel to each other for much of the ride, intertwining and eventually deviating from each other at the loading areas. The Submarine Voyage ride is officially dedicated on this day as well in Tomorrowland (although it has has been open since June 6). The attraction has cost about $2.5 million to create. The Nautilus and 7 sister submarines - the Triton, Sea Wolf, Skate, Skipjack, George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ethan Allen allow 38 Disneyland guests at a time to take their own voyage to the North Pole. For the dedication of the new Submarine Voyage attraction the opening ceremonies feature eight live mermaids performing a synchronized swimming ballet in the lagoon.Mrs. Mildred Nelson, wife of the chief machinist on the the first nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, helps Walt Disney christen the sub D-301, appropriately named Nautilus. Also taking place at 1:30 is a special dedication parade specifically designedfor this day's festivities. The parade and all the day's events are filmed for an ABC television special to be titled Kodak Presents Disneyland ’59.1967:The Club 33 restaurant (for members-only) opens at 33 Royal Street, in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. It is comprised of two dining rooms and several adjoining areas, all of which hold a wide array of magnificent antiques and original works of art. A secret feature of the theme park, the entrance of the private club is located next to the Blue Bayou Restaurant at "33 Royal Street" with the entrance recognizable by an ornate address plate with the number 33 engraved on it.1971:The All American College Band performs for the very first time at Disneyland. The All-American College Band, made up of musicians from colleges all across the United States, will perform for 11 weeks throughout the summer (and become a yearly tradition).1972:The Main Street Electric Parade kicks off at Disneyland for the very first time. The floats include the Blue Fairy, Casey Junior Circus Train, Alice In Wonderland, Chinese Dragon, Dumbo’s Circus, Cinderella’s Ball, "it’s a small world", and the American Finale.1974:Disney World’s "Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue" dinner show debuts in Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. Created as a college workshop summer production only, guest response will be so positive that Walt Disney World entertainment will continue the show with a permanent professional cast at the end of the 1974 summer! 1975:Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln returns to Disneyland after being replaced in 1973 with The Walt Disney Story.1983:The Disneyland parade Flights of Fantasy, which celebrates the opening of the New Fantasyland, debuts.1999:Disney's animated feature Tarzan premieres in the U.S. at the El Capitan Theater in HollywoodThe computer controlled sign that welcomes guests to the main entrance of Disneyland's parking lot is removed. Its site will be absorbed into the new California Adventure area. (This is only the second sign to greet guests as they entered Disneyland in the park's 44 year history. Let’s take a trip to Disneyland’s Fantasyland and enjoy a leisurely cruise on the Storybook Land Canal Boats. The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Cast off on a colorful canal boat for a “mini” tour of fairytale destinations seen in classic Disney animated movies.” There are no height restrictions for this attraction and the thrill level describes the attraction as being a slow ride and a water ride. Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats. 1. The Storybook Land Canal Boats is a Disneyland, opening day attraction. Although when the attraction opened on July 17, 1955, it lacked the landscaping and miniature houses it is known for today. After only two months of operation, the attraction was closed and when it reopened in June of 1956 the landscaping and miniature houses had been added. 2. The lighthouse at the entrance to the queue line is the former ticket booth from when Disneyland guests needed tickets to ride the attractions. In those days, the Storybook Land Canal boats were a D ticket attraction. 3. The attraction’s fleet of electric inboard motor powered boats are each named after a Disney character including Alice, Belle, Merryweather and Wendy. 4. As you will hear, guests on the attraction sail past miniature replicas of locations from Disney animated films including the houses of the Three little pigs, The Dwarves Cottage from Snow White and Cinderella’s Castle. Over the years, miniature buildings from newer Disney animated films have been added to the attraction. in 1994, the Sultan’s Palace from Aladdin was added and in 2014, several buildings form the movie Frozen were added. 5. The doors of many of the buildings guests see on this attraction actually open and close. Not only does this add to the realism, it allows Disneyland employees to change and light bulbs that burn out inside the buildings. Let us now set sail on our cruise of Storybook land. Along for the ride is John B. deHaas who will be experiencing the attraction for the first time. You’ll hear his thoughts on this Disneyland Classic as well as mine after the ride audio. This is a binaural recording, so if you have headphones, put them on now as we experience Disneyland’s Storybook Land Canal Boats. We're celebrating the holidays at Walt's Barn in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, with Tim's guests Carolwood Foundation president Bill Barbe, author Sam Gennawey and Margaret Kerry, the live-action model for Tinker Bell in Walt Disney's "Peter Pan." The Carolwood Foundation operates Walt's Barn, which originally stood next to Disney's sprawling 1/8 scale train layout in the backyard of his Holmby Hills home in the 1950s. Today, the barn is a museum with numerous train artifacts, many used by Walt himself. Other items are from the collections of train enthusiasts including Disney animators Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston. Next to the barn, the Carolwood Foundation has restored an original combine car from the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad and is working on other restoration projects including original buildings from Disneyland's Storybook Land Canal Boats and a train from the Mine Train Thru Nature's Wonderland. www.TheMouseCastle.com
