First Tin PLC CEO Bill Scotting joins Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of the two tin mining projects the company is developing in Australia and Germany. Scotting said the Taronga project, near Brisbane, will operate as an open pit mine and is expected to produce approximately 3,500 tonnes of tin concentrate annually. The German project, Tellerhäuser is being developed as an underground mine and will target multiple metals, including tin, indium, copper, and zinc. Both projects are situated in historic tin mining districts, with the German site dating back centuries. Scotting said technological advancements in mining and processing have enabled more efficient extraction and processing of tin. Market dynamics, such as increased tin pricing, have also improved the economic viability of these projects. Additionally, he noted that First Tin implements high environmental standards in its operations, including the use of solar power in Australia and adherence to strict environmental regulations in both countries. Scotting highlighted the growing global demand for tin, driven by its critical role in electronic manufacturing and the energy transition, including solar energy and electric vehicles. He noted a structural change in the market, with increasing tin usage in various high-tech applications. He also pointed out the strategic advantage of their mines' locations in OECD countries, which ensures a more stable and secure supply chain compared to tin sources in emerging economies. #FirstTinPLC, #TinMining, #BillScotting, #MiningTechnology, #AustraliaMining, #GermanyMining, #EnvironmentalStandards, #TinDemand, #ElectronicManufacturing, #EnergyTransition, #SolarEnergy, #ElectricVehicles, #OECD, #MiningProjects, #TinProduction, #HighTechMaterials, #SustainableMining, #ResourceSecurity, #MiningIndustry, #GlobalMining #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

It's been revealed Taronga zoo staff risked their lives to search for two children who had become separated from their school group while a family of lions were on the loose. Shane Watson has revealed in his new book that he spent almost 18 months after the tragic death of Phillip Hughes “petrified” that he would suffer the same fate. Savagely killed by her jealous ex after weeks of stalking and threats, Ruth Mataafa was victim to “domestic violence at its worst”. You will need to earn more than $300,000 a year to afford a typical house in nearly half of Sydney thanks to the biggest interest rate hikes in 30 years. Timestamps: [02:20] Jonathan: Talk us through your career and tell us how you ended up at Taronga Ventures? My career started in China, I did my post-grad at a Chinese University and I started doing Urban Planning and from there I stumbled into real estate working for a Singaporean firm in China (one the first VC funds in that markert). After working in VC, I started at Savills and I have now been in real estate for the last 25 years. I then worked for Abu Dhabi Investment Authority before moving on to ING Real Estate Finance and most recently Mirvac. [04:30] Joanna: Can you tell us about your 15 years in real estate? I started at Harvard studying neuroscience. Investment banks, consulting companies and banks love Ivy league kids with science degrees so I went to work at KeyBank Real Estate Capital where we did the structural and financial side of real estate. I decided I wanted to be an entrepreneur and started a small fund where we bought multifamily assets, refurbished them and started a property management company to do that. I arrived in Australia at 30, with a failed business and a banking career so I started working on strategy at DEXUS Property Group. I was more interested in the cutting edge and at Lendlease I was doing transformation and innovation, moving further up the R and D curve. [07:20] Joanna: What are investors honing in on when it comes to innovation? We have a broad innovation strategy. Advanced analytics and data underpins all of it. One of the ways of innovating is to take on startups and scaleups and integrate new technologies. Data and analytics sit under everything that we do. [09:20] Jonathan: You are currently running an ESG impact program, can you talk us through the program and the mission of it? We needed to have both the fund and a growth program. The ESG program is for select high calibre quality companies We needed to move up to the scalable businesses who already had customers and they had some level of traction because the real estate world actually couldn't deal with startups. It is an ecosystem builder. [13:00] Joanna: With ESG, it is difficult to get good data from it as well as finding technology to support it. What is your take on this? Historically in real estate, the industry has been extremely opaque. There's been huge information asymmetry and that's resulted in a massive lack of transparency. The information asymmetries are breaking down and what's happening is we're starting to be able to abstract data from other industries and from other data sets in order to back solve and fill in data that the real estate industry either doesn't have or is not sharing. The pressure from the investors and the capital regarding ESG is forcing a level of transparency and scrutiny that is going to become akin to financial reporting. [15:35] On the topic of investment going into the real estate space and ESG, are there any technologies which you guys can share? For the last 12 months, every investor and every discussion has been about ESG. In the building management, energy efficiency space, there are a lot of Companies that are targeting that as an area, but we are looking for a more complete solution. It often isn't a cost, it's actually a benefit and an upside for the corporates that start using this technique [18:30] Joanna: Are there any major trends that you have seen in the real estate space? The move from the point solutions to something that is more of a holistic ecosystem as well as the blending of the technologies together. Some technologies simplify a part of something but causes so much extra exhaustion. [21:25] How do we attract and retain more people into the real estate and data world? The first thing is to know that it is possible. In terms of diversity, I think it is about honouring diversity of thought and innovation. [24:40] Jonathan: What are your thoughts on this, knowing that you are in the hiring process? What we've tried to do from within our advisory board and from our hiring policy, is to have the most diverse approach hiring that we can have. When we've looked through the businesses that we are investing in, we often see that it is male founded. We're doing a lot of work to try to positively fund female founded enterprises. [29:35] Have you seen any change happening when it comes down to education and exploring technology as a career path? Jonathan: I moved from Australia from Sweden, and in Sweden there is just a different approach. We have systematic issues in Australia when it comes to childcare. Joanna: I think there is a lack of how to even do this and things like how to raise capital. [32:30] Jonathan: What is next for Taronga? In the next three months we will be churning through hundreds of deals to work out the partners for the ESG program. [33:25] Joanna: What is exciting that is coming up? The data, analytics and advanced analytics of ESG and the ecosystem around that. Giving the power back to the people where you no longer have to big IT for innovation. [35:50] The ‘LMRE' part, Louisa asks the guests to talk about; L – Touch on the main lessons you have learnt throughout your career. Jonathan: Decision-making in the corporate real estate world takes longer and you need to build your business to be able to withstand that challenge. Joanna: Be really resourceful and find a way. M - Please give a mention to anyone / product / service. Jonathan: SPACECUBE Joanna: William Cosby - Ex Omina R – What has been the most rewarding aspect of working in PropTech? Jonathan: The people Joanna: Partnering E - What are you excited about in the future of PropTech? Joanna: Distilling down to the fundamental set of data points. Our guest this week is Jonathan Hannam, the co-founder of real estate technology investor Taronga Ventures. Jonathan was introduced to Scale Investors by one of our most successful female founders, whose property technology company was funded by Taronga. She raved about working with Jonathan and his team because of their intelligence, ambition and deep property expertise. But importantly she also loved the firms' genuine commitment to positive impact, both socially and environmentally. My guess is that part of the success in building a specialist venture firm like Taronga that great entrepreneurs love to work with, is Jonathan's very global outlook. He truly is a citizen of the world, having held senior roles in Sweden, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia and Australia. He is fluent in Mandarin and Swedish and as an entrepreneur himself, he is also an expert in the language of founders and business builders. Links Johnathan Hannam on LinkedIn Taronga Ventures

Michael is joined by Samantha Elley, journalist, historian and editor of the website ‘Tales From The Grave', about the fascinating life Sir Edward Hallstrom. Sir Edward John Lees Hallstrom (25 September 1886 – 27 February 1970) was one of Australia's best-known philanthropists, zoological park administrator and businessmen of the mid 20th century. Hallstrom revolutionised food storage, particularly in the outback, with his kerosene powered refrigerator which was diversified to Silent Knight upright models which ran on gas or electricity. Knighted in 1952, he is believed to have donated in excess of A$4 million to philanthropic causes during his lifetime, directing much of his fortune to Sydney's Taronga Park Zoo, becoming a trustee and later its chairman. Travel First Episode 98Taronga Zoo – Sydney, AustraliaThe first public zoo in New South Wales (NSW) officially opened in Sydney in 1884 on a site known as Billy Goat Swamp in Moore Park, operated by the Zoological Society of NSW which was founded in March 1879.After a visit to Germany in 1908 the elected Secretary of the zoo, Albert Sherbourne Le Souef, returned with a vision for a new Sydney zoo, based on the bar-less exhibits of Hamburg Zoo. The site at Moore Park had become too small and was not suited to the vision. A new site for the zoo was sought. On April 24th, 1912 the NSW Government granted 43 acres of land north of the harbour which were part of Ashton Park. Another 9 acres were granted in April 1916.In 1913, Management of the zoo passed to a Trust named the New Zoological Gardens Trust which became the Taronga Zoological Park Trust. For more visit https://taronga.org.au/about/history-and-culture/sydney or https://taronga.org.au Subscribe, rate and review Travel First at any good podcatcher app, including ApplePodcasts (formerly iTunes) (featured in New & Noteworthy), Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pocketcasts, Podbean, CastBox.fm and more.Email: travelfirst@bitesz.comFor more, follow Travel First on Facebook, twitter, and Instagram:Facebook: @travelfirstpodcasttwitter: @biteszHQtravelInstagram: www.instagram.com/biteszhqtravelIf you're enjoying Travel First, please share and tell your family and friends. My guest this week is Rachel Kidwell from TCPinpoint, a proptech that anyone working in retail real estate is going to find super fascinating. Rachel is an inspiring Proptech entrepreneur who has used the pain she used to experience as a tenancy coordinator and fit out manager in the retail sector, to found TCPinpoint, a cloud-based collaboration tool that brings all the stakeholders involved in the retail tenancy delivery process into one platform. Now, there's a lot of people involved in getting a new store open, from landlords and building engineers and facility managers to the shop designer, fitter and trades people. And that's just a few. And after such a turbulent time in retail over the past few years, the industry is due for some good news and ways to save. TCPinpoint was part of the retailX 2020 programme with the Taronga group. Rachel is also an inspiring female entrepreneur, a co-founder of Proptech South Australia, an activator with SheEO and a member of the SA Future Trends and Innovations Committee of the Proptech Council of Australia. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theproptechpodcast/message
