Hi Parents! This week I'm joined by Nancy Smith, an expert in high-functioning anxiety, to continue the conversation I recently started in a solo episode about how high-functioning anxiety differs from a Type A personality. While I introduced the topic in my solo episode, Nancy brings her deep expertise to provide an even clearer understanding of how parents can better support their teens who may appear to be thriving on the outside while struggling internally. Nancy shares her story; sheds light on the subtle signs of high-functioning anxiety and offers practical approaches for distinguishing it from general anxiety or Type A behaviours. We dive into strategies for building trust, fostering open conversations, and helping teens find balance and resilience. More about Nancy: Nancy Jane Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor, trainer, and author. She trained in Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Institute of Central Ohio and is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, inspired by Dr. Brené Brown's work on vulnerability and resilience. Nancy has authored three books, including The Happier Approach: Be Kind to Yourself, Feel Happier, and Still Accomplish Your Goals, which offers tools for reducing anxiety.

In this episode, comedian Paul Certi takes us through his journey into comedy, starting from being a youngster, when he first discovered his knack for making people laugh, to finally diving into stand-up in his thirties. He opens up about the challenges he faced early on, like his first gig doing The Blackout at Up The Creek and King Kong, where he learned just how much he still had to figure out. Paul stresses the importance of preparation, constantly refining material, and adapting to new situations. He also talks about how embracing failure and learning from each performance is key to growth in comedy. Paul shares his experiences performing in competitions and doing gigs outside of London and how competitions shouldn't be taken too seriously, instead encouraging comedians to focus on the long-term journey. He compares the differences between audiences in various cities and countries, noting that crowds outside London often bring a special kind of energy and enthusiasm. Reflecting on his time in the ‘So You Think You're Funny' competition, Paul talks about the balance between refining a set and experimenting with new material. Throughout the conversation, Paul and Marc dive deep into what it takes to make it in comedy: persistence, consistency, and the ability to get comfortable with discomfort. They touch on topics like following strong acts, and the tricky art of handling sensitive subjects on stage, all while reading the room.   This episode is packed with personal stories, insights into the comedy world, and a lot of humour, making it a great listen for anyone interested in the art of stand-up.   LINKS: Open Mic Comedy Pod: https://www.instagram.com/openmiccomedypod   Paul Certi: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paulcerti/ https://www.tiktok.com/@paulcerti ————————   Music: https://www.purple-planet.com

A cura di Franca Rizzi Martini Racconti di: Rinaldo Ambrosia, Simonetta Bernasconi, Paolo Camera, Gabriele Farina, MariannaGiglio-Tos, Renato Graziano, Michela Marocco, Maria Montano, Eva Monti, Patrizia Monzeglio, Bruna Parodi, Filippo Pellicoro, Aida Pironti, Giovanna Radaelli, Franca Rizzi Martini, Carlotta Rocci, Gioele Urso, Maria Vallinotto, Valentina Veratrini. È tradotta in diverse lingue.IL POSTO DELLE PAROLEAscoltare fa Pensarehttps://ilpostodelleparole.itQuesto show fa parte del network Spreaker Prime.

If you're a therapist, even if you're far from your practicum days, you can probably relate to the feeling of sitting in a session and being distracted by the thought of whether you're living up to the standard of a good therapist. And you've probably had a moment where you're sitting with a client or group and you heard something come out of your mouth and immediately thought, “That doesn't sound like something a good therapist would say.”Who is this mythical good therapist? What are their qualities and where do those ideas come from? When you think about that archetypal good therapist that you compare yourself to, is that therapist a blank slate?Does a good therapist take all the most challenging cases? Do they self-disclose? Do they diagnose and write treatment plans? Are they a quiet introvert? Do they have it all together? Nancy Jane Smith and I are talking through some of these questions today and how uncomfortable it can be when we sense we're going out of the “good therapist” box.Nancy Jane Smith, MSEd., LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor trainer, and author specializing in high-functioning anxiety. Nancy completed her postgraduate training in Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Institute of Central Ohio and is a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. She has over 20 years of working as a counselor and coach and most recently created Self Loyalty Schoo,l an audio-based program to help quiet high-functioning anxiety. Nancy has written 3 books with tips, lessons, and stories on reducing anxiety, most recently, The Happier Approach: Be Kind to Yourself, Feel Happier and Still Accomplish Your Goals. Listen to the full episode to hear: Why Nancy struggled to feel like a legit therapist How norms around self-disclosure are shifting and why Nancy is open about her own anxiety How different therapist subcultures influence the image of the good therapist and create new pressures Why Nancy regrets being too passive with early clients and why some therapists don't talk enough Why the good therapist isn't an effective therapist Learn more about Nancy Jane Smith: NancyJaneSmith.com The Happier Approach: Be Kind to Yourself, Feel Happier, and Still Accomplish Your Goals Learn more about Riva Stoudt: Into the Woods Counseling Instagram

Leticia found a lot of success but she also had a ton of challenges. When the massive company she worked for started to go under, she knew she needed to make a change. That's how she wound up making her way back to the family business and found the power she needed to be in control of her journey. Leticia shares the lessons she's learned from both failure and triumphs that you can use to be the boss in your biz.  Can't-Miss Moments From This Episode:Celebrating a potential lay-off with a cruise: why Leticia didn't waste time waiting around for the axe to fall (this is a total power move, and you can do it too!)  I like to do yoga with llamas, Leticia likes to pop champagne: why it's so important to take time to celebrate every moment in entrepreneurship, big and small.  When things felt off with a client, Leticia trusted her gut to keep things out of the gray area. Her story is a brilliant example of why listening to your intuition (especially when you're new to biz) is more important than making the deal.  Could failing a little more get you closer to finding success? When taking the big leap and NOT getting what you were going for can be a powerful advantage. What stories are you hiding from in your business? What happened when Leticia and I stopped hiding from who we are and embraced it fully (hint: what you find shameful might actually be a huge advantage). This one is jam-packed full of advice. Don't miss out - listen now!Leticia's Bio:With 25 years of Telecom experience, Leticia Latino went from working for Merrill Lynch and Telecom Giant Nortel Networks to accepting the challenge of extending the legacy of establishing her family business in the US back in 2002. So we do provide the nursing, the therapy, home health aids to assist with activities of daily living and such. Now, while a home care agency can also assist with those activities of daily living, they are not in a qualified position to actually perform hands-on care. They can observe a client or an individual performing these activities, but they're not able to actually help them with them.” ●      “We as healthcare providers, our clinical staff is able to go in there and facilitate some of those telehealth visits and things. And that has just been a saving grace for a lot of folks and a lot of facilities as well” ●      “After these past couple years [due to the pandemic], you have to clear your mindset. What used to work, what we used to do, how we used to help, that's all changed].…]And you have to actually be very objective when looking at everything and be the solution to the problem. It may be a problem that you never had to deal with before, but now, here you are.”
