The boys are back together! You know it's an episode full of laughs and epiphanies whenever that happens. On this episode of DTD, Vinny discuss's how he's been reclaiming his peace of mind through a fresh morning self-reflection technique, as well as why letting go of expectations and exterior pressure has provided for a beautiful, peaceful week.  Hopefully this practice can help you declutter your mind as it's helped him so you can focus on what's important—your happiness.  We also discuss the ways we've been navigating the pitfalls of social media, and how a weeklong break can do wonders for you.  And of course, we get deep on the big questions: What's it all for? Why do we do this podcast? Why do anything at all? As usual the answer comes down to feeling this thing that's unexplainable, a feeling, an emotion, a practice, a way of being called love.  Listen to more episodes of The Dare to Dream Podcast on Apple Podcasts and Spotify! Ever Better Podcast | Inspiring Stories | Motivating | Transition with Grace | Fulfillment | Wisdom

Fear can be a positive force, motivating us to take immediate action. But fear also has the capacity to limit our lives through concerns about unjustified implications. Does fear help or hinder you? Here are four ways to think about FEAR from Anne Lamott. ----------------------------------------------- Welcome to Ever Better Today: the daily podcast for creating your optimal business, career, or overall life in ten minutes or less. I'm Lisa Conners Vogt, Executive and Leadership Coach and founder of Ever Better Coaching and Consulting. Let's jump in! ----------------------------------------------- Anne Lamott is the author of Bird by Bird, a book about the writing process. Listen to Anne on the Tim Ferris Podcast, episode 522, Taming Your Inner Critic, Finding Grace, and Prayer. ----------------------------------------------- Four interpretations of FEAR:   #1 False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR) You might look at a situation and conjure up all kinds of negative interpretations without true evidence that any of your scenarios are correct. However, at the moment, they seem real to you. This is false evidence appearing real (FEAR)  Example: You send an email to your CEO and don't get a quick response. You start thinking of all the reasons the CEO is made at you, about how you messed up, and when and where you're going to be fired. This is false evidence that appears real. Given more time and communication, you may find that you're doing a great job and the CEO was just busy.   #2 Frantic Effort to Appear Recovered (FEAR) If you're on the path to recovery from addiction, you may want others around you to perceive that you are recovered. This can truly be damaging because you're not asking for the help you need.   #3 Future Events Already Ruined (FEAR) Have you ever created ideas in your mind about unpleasant interactions or events that will happen if you attend a party, interview for a job, move to another city, or do something outside of your comfort zone? What you're doing is ruining a future event that might change your life for the better! This is future events already ruined (FEAR).   #4 Fear Expressed Allows Relief (FEAR) This is what we do in coaching: We let people express their fears. Once you start talking about those FEARs, it can help you get relief because you're talking it through. And sometimes that's all it takes! ----------------------------------------------- To learn more about working with Ever Better, send me an email here or book a complimentary call with me here

In an era already notable for remarkable technological innovation, we are approaching a precipice that could potentially make the last 30 years of progress seem quaint by comparison. The dawn and convergence of artificial intelligence, genome sequencing, robotics, energy storage, and the blockchain threaten to fundamentally disrupt the status quo as we know it.The advent of the blockchain, for instance, has led to a paradigm shift - known as Web3. This paradigm shift is seeing a move away from the closed protocol that has dominated software development over the past 20 years — where the Twitter's, Facebook's, and Google's of the world own their user data and collect the lion's share of the economic value — and moving to a world of open sourced development where creators and communities share the economics and users own their data.Already terms like DeFi (Decentralized Finance), DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations), and NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are entering the common vernacular, even if many of us still don't quite understand them. At their best, innovations like this are allowing people to work collaboratively in ways that allow communities to form, share ownership, establish good governance, and operate transparently. But already there are those who worry that the potential of web3 is being co-opted by big business.Enter today's guest, Michael Lewkowitz, Co-Founder and General Partner at Possibilian Ventures; a pre-seed / seed investor in companies building a better future across the transition and cooperation economies. What makes Possibilian particularly interesting is that it is focused on supporting founders who are leveraging these converging technological breakthroughs to unlock true systems change to address the two biggest existential threats we face: climate change and inequality.During the episode, Michael and I discuss Possibilian's unique thesis, five areas of transition we're currently experiencing, the definition of terms like Web3, DeFi, NFTs, and DAOs, why Web3 could massively disrupt the status quo, and examples of investments Possibilian is making in companies leveraging these technologies for systemic change. And be sure to stay tuned to the very end where Michael shares his outlook for what possibilities these new technologies could enable over the next decade.Resources from this episode:Possibilian Ventures WebsitePossibilian's Perspective on Venture & TransformationKlima DAOConstitution DAOs bid to buy the US ConstitutionEpisode #542 of the Tim Ferris Podcast discussing Web 3 with Chris Dixon and Naval RavikantChris Dixon's TwitterNaval Ravikant's TwitterAndreesen Horowitz Web3 Learning ResourcesFrom the Episode Announcements: i2 Impact Investing (Columbia)

Micro-dosing, taking small doses of psychedelic substances, like LSD or psilocybin-containing “magic” mushrooms, probably entered the public consciousness in early 2015, after James Fadiman, PhD and author of The Psychedelic Explorer's Guide, appeared on the Tim Ferris Podcast. Fadiman is the author of the 2011 book “The Psychdelics Explorer's Guide” where can be credited with presenting the idea of taking a “sub-perceptual” dose of a hallucinogen, like LSD or Psilocybe cubensis “magic” mushrooms, that contain the hallucinogen psilocybin. A sub-perceptual dose means that, while these substances still exert effects, they don't produce a noticeable hallucinogenic “high”. While other substances can be used, the most common way to practice micro-dosing is with about 1/10th to 1/20th of a standard “trip dose” of LSD or psilocybin, the two most commonly taken psychedelics. In this episode I talk to Dr. Amanda Satov, a fellow naturopathic doctor. Amanda became interested in the healing power of psychedelic plant medicines on a trip to the Amazon rainforest of Peru. Her background in culinary arts and her interest in working with patients through transitional periods in their lives, led to her deep dive in the history, science and current research surrounding psychedelic, or entheogenic medicines. Dr. Amanda is also a reiki practitioner. She is a fellow Toronto practitioner. You can find Dr. Amanda Satov, ND at: https://www.amandasatov.com/ and on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amandasatov.nd/ Now, the psychedelic medicines, like psilocybin or LSD, that we talk about in this episode are not currently approved for therapeutic use. Nor are they legal to procure outside of certain exceptions for scientific research. Dr. Amanda and I are having this discussion because we're interested in it and excited about what the future holds for using psychedelics in the realm of mental health, however we are in no way advocating their use outside of a therapeutic encounter. This discussion is for educational purposes only. Background Having been a musician and music teacher for a couple of decades, Michael got tired of the low pay and unresponsive students. He discovered the Amazon Private Label opportunity and loved the creativity of being an online entrepreneur, as well as the time freedom it gives once it’s up and running. Michael had always loved listening to intelligent “talk” radio (mostly Radio 4), that expanded to include a great liking for listening to business podcasts over the last decade. Having been very inspired by many great business podcasts and blogs over the last few years, like those by Tim Ferriss and Seth Godin, Michael wanted to create one to inspire and help others. Although there were many other good podcasts about selling on Amazon in the USA, they all had a US perspective. There seemed to be no podcast specifically with a more international perspective, specifically starting from a UK perspective. Michael felt he could fill in the gap. Amazon business Michael has been selling on Amazon USA since December 2014 and started selling in the UK in July 2015, branching out into other European marketplaces in late 2016. In Autumn 2016, he launched a new Europe-focussed brand with a business partner. Michael hit $100,000 in sales within 2 years with his own brands. Total sales with Michael and his business partners have passed $250,000 so far. Amazing FBA Michael has been running the Podcast, Blog and Facebook Group since September 2015. The podcast has just passed 275 podcast episodes published, with over 100 expert interviews. Michael started Amazon Mentoring in April 2016, and masterminds in Sept 2016. In Sept. 2017, Michael founded the 10K Collective, a London-based mastermind of men and women doing over $25,000 a month on Amazon. With collective revenues of over $10 million a year, they meet once a month in central London to discuss and implement advanced strategy and tactics. In August-Sept. 2018, Michael is finalizing the PLP course, an online course which captures his philosophy of iterative business development; and which focusses as much on the mindset and skillset of the entrepreneur as it does on developing a business. Alright maybe I have listened to too many Tim Ferris Podcast episodes (no really super motivating. Give it a try if you haven't). I decided to run a personal experiment as the US has yet again made it more difficult to get pain medication even when you go to a PAIN CLINIC and pharmacies have decided that they will supersede doctors n how much and when you may have your medicine.Right now CVS which has teamed up with Target only allow for one week of an opioid prescription at a time. This is said to be only for acute conditions but I fear that there will be issues depending on who the pharmacist is. Just think of how possible it is to drive out EVERY week when in chronic pain. Walgreens allows for once a month from the time of pick up. This means if I can't wait for my prescription and I have to wait until I can drive again I can be up to a month behind on my prescriptions. So among the fear mongering, I decided to run an experiment. How long can I go without my pain pills? Let me be clear I have ZERO addiction issues this was strictly about how long I could handle my daily level 8-9 pain without my medication.Anyone who knows me will tell you optimism is how I will end up getting killed (or saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.) I REALLY thought I could make it the entire day. What else are super high pain thresholds for?SPOILER NOPE NOT POSSIBLE NOT HAPPENING WITH A SIDE OF DEAR GOD WHY.It did not go well. I am afraid. I am scared that an administration that cares nothing for people will force so many of us too tired and unable to fight into a darker place where even less is possible. If you want to share this to show others what it is like to be in chronic pain without medication please feel free to share. For the record, I have Ehlers Danlos, POTS, and Fibromyalgia See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

THE SEA-TOWN PODCAST: Interviewing Seattle's Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs

This week's guest is Ian Weinberg, the owner of Ian Fitness. Originally starting with 1 location on Queen Anne but now has 9 locations around Seattle. Ian's philosophy is to get people moving in a fun, safe, non-intimidating way through group "boot camp" workouts and one-on-one training, focusing on results.   Highlights From This Episode: Ian used to play professional soccer and at one point, worked in a gym part time to make a little extra money and he discovered that there tends to be a disconnect with gym members and their motivation for working out since a relatively large number of gym members don't regularly go to the gym. After spending some time traveling the world, he came back to Seattle and wanted to really make an impact but didn't know exactly what to do but he really enjoyed fitness and movement, so eventually took a job as an independent trainer on Queen Anne.   Ian doesn't believe that the "Knowledge Is Power" because if you just sit on that knowledge, it doesn't do anyone any good. So rather he believes that "Action Is Power"... Just get started and take action on your idea, business, fitness or whatever because you'll never achieve anything if you are always waiting for things to be perfect.   Episode Links & Resources: Guest's Website: http://www.ianfitness.com Like on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Ianfitness/ Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/IanFitness Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ianfitness/ Guest's recommended books/tools/resources: "How To Win Friends and Influence People" Guest's favorite podcast(s): Tim Ferris Podcast, Lewis Howe "School of Greatness". Not all logic, a lot of subconscious thoughts leading to conscious actions. It's an interesting situation where the past fuels the future. We start off with the weekend, and some adversity that was managed, then dive into a conversation where we mention Tim Ferriss Show titled Fear{less}, which is fairly new, but has already given so much value to those who take the time to watch and listen. We get into some music conversation that was brought up in that show, relating it to our musical background. The conclusion revolves around being nervous in the classroom to the stage, and how we used to cope with it to how we deal the being nervous now. Questions of the Conversation: 1. Has Fear{Less} helped you? How so? Which episode do you feel you've taken from most? 2. What did you want to be when you were a kid? Tim Ferris Podcast #262 3. This 3 part series of starting a side project is inspired by Lauren Hom's initiative of starting a side project in 2017. She has found massive success in her young career all from creating the type of work she wants to get to paid for with side projects. Her Side Projects: Your New Secret Weapon blog series along with a free mini email course are a great place for you to check out if you need some additional inspiration after this podcast series. Would you believe me if I told you I have a friend who bought a Russian spacesuit on eBay and began photographing himself as just an everyday astronaut in public? What if I told you this silly project is now becoming his full-time business pursuit? The person I’m referring to is my local friend Tim Dodd and he is the creator of the Everyday Astronaut account on Instagram. This was just a little experiment that exploded with creative potential. I’ll get back to Tim later, but the point I’m trying to make is that you never know what side projects can turn into. For example, Uber was a side project. The Tim Ferris Podcast was a side project. Perspective-Collective is an ongoing side project. You get the picture. This is the beginning of a 3 part series which covers the benefits to pursuing a side project in 2017: Part 1: Start seeing your side project hobby as something with greater creative potential. Part 2: Side projects allow you to attract the kind of work you want to get paid for. Part 3: 3 ingredients for increasing exposure for your side project. Let’s get started. Indication of Future Creative Potential I recently read a Medium article by Busy Building Things and it summed up perfectly how a side project should be perceived. It states, “Side projects are much more than simply hobbies, they are indicators of what you are capable of building.” My hobby used to be drawing which led me to creating the side project of Perspective-Collective in April of 2014. It started off with me just needing a name to house all the art I was cooking up. The thought of calling this 'brand' Scotty Russell Graphics was sounding pretty douchey and I reluctantly went with Perspective-Collective (I wasn't a fan of this name at the time but I rolled with it). What I didn’t realize is this new side project was providing me the platform to create whatever the hell I wanted. I had no idea it would grow like this. Over 2.5 years, this side project has led me to: blogging public speaking getting great interviews and features getting great freelance teaching workshops starting my own Perspective Podcast building relationships with creatives all over the world During this span, I’ve been able to catch a glimpse of what I’m capable of building. I fully believe that I can turn this into my full-time dream job someday if I continue to push it. It’s funny because it all starts with an idea but can rapidly change when you decide to act on it. That little idea you’ve had swimming in your head could change your life. Create Something Dope In Your Own Lane My friend Chuck Means told me a phrase that he heard the other day that went along the lines of “Creating Something Dope In Your Own Lane.” I’m a big advocate for pursuing your own creative path by doing work that resonates with you. If you’re creating work that you're enthusiastic about, then you are making dope work by your own standards. No one else’s definition of “dope work” applies here. Over time, if you consistently share this dope work, you’ll give others the opportunity to think it’s dope as well. It’s easy to feel you have to follow the footsteps of other creatives. However, I encourage you to be inspired but stay in your lane because your creative DNA and story are unique. Going back to Tim… I mean Everyday Astronaut. He matched his greatest strength / skillset (photography and space knowledge) with his greatest passion (outer space and dreams to become an astronaut) and started a little project that he thought was dope. Note: I wrote a blog post series about finding your greatest strength, greatest passion and your sweet spot awhile back. Clearly, he’s in his own lane because this is an insanely clever and refreshing idea. He started by taking spectacular photos of himself in his space suit doing normal things non-astronaut individuals would be doing like washing the car. He hit it hard for about two years and next thing you know he's been featured by: Instagram Reddit Buzzfeed etc. I’d say he's gotten some solid indications that this side project has some great creative potential. It’s now to the point where he is taking the risk of setting aside his successful wedding photography career so he can pursue this full-time. His goal is to begin speaking and teaching his knowledge of photography and space while maintaining his quirky character he created. If this can happen for Tim, why can’t it happen for you? What’s Your Side Project Idea? What is something that you’re interested in pursuing? As Gary Vee puts it, “What is it you wish you could do every day and get paid for?” Stop seeing your side project as only a hobby when it could blossom into something much bigger. If you want it bad enough, anything is possible. 2017 is here and you have a fresh opportunity to make it happen. Next week’s Part 2 episode will hit on how side projects allow you to attract the kind of work you want to get paid for. Key Takeaways “Side projects are much more than simply hobbies, they are indicators of what you are capable of building.” It all starts with an idea but can rapidly change when you decide to act on it. That little idea you’ve had swimming in your head could change your life. Pursue your own creative path by doing work that resonates with you. By consistently sharing what you think is dope, you'll give enough opportunities for others to think it's dope as well. Be inspired but stay in your lane because your creative DNA and story are unique.
