Who says theatrical releases are the exclusive movies that we review on these airwaves? Well, I think Garrett has made that exception for EVERYTHING in the world of Stephen King. I hope this answers why we are posting on a Wednesday. Between that and Adam/Matt wanting to go through this series like a tractor through an abandoned cornfield. Here's our review of the first direct to video installment in the Children of the Corn franchise! We'll review Part 4 on our regularly scheduled Friday and continue this style until its conclusion. Let's hope no one snaps by then and we no longer are friends.

In this episode, Shannon talks with Janna Roberson the executive director of Urban Harvest in Houston, TX. This week, we aren't going inside, we're going up on a rooftop. We sat down with Urban Harvest's Jamie Wallace at their rooftop garden downtown to talk about the fight to bring sustainable food to St. Louis as well as strengthen the community as St. Louis grows together. Urban Harvest started in 2011, and now has more than a half dozen locations across the area, providing fresh produce to those without access, and working to create a network to help with food assistance throughout the city. As executive director, Jamie talked about education programs as well, helping to teach those who want to learn how to create sustainable urban gardening and spread the word throughout communities who want to build their own. Oh, and if you grow at home and find yourself asking “what are we going to do with all these vegetables?” Well, there's an app for that. If you want to check out the farms, you can go any Saturday morning from 9-11:30. If you're looking to start your own garden, there are some handy how-to guides on their website UrbanHarvestSTL.org. There, you can also learn more about how you can help, either by donating or getting involved yourself. There's also a list of upcoming events, the soonest being a sit-down dinner hosted on their rooftop garden downtown August 7.
On this episode of One For All, we talk about a major issue in our region - hunger - and what we are doing at the county to make sure that everyone has access to healthy food. Today on the podcast we visit the Black Creek Community Farm in Toronto. The farm is located along the northern boundary of the City of Toronto, in a densely populated neighbourhood where Toronto meets one of its northern suburbs, within walking distance of the Jane and Finch neighbourhood. If you're from Toronto, you'll know Jane and Finch — at least by name — from the media attention it gets. The good things going on in the area — and that there is a vibrant community here — don't get a lot of media attention, so it might be a surprise for some people to connect Jane and Finch with urban farming, with growing food, and with growing community through food. “When you do something from the heart, when you're passionate about what you do, I think you can do big things.” Mildred Agsaoay Unique Property Founded in 2012, the Black Creek Community Farm is on an eight-acre property that includes three acres of farmland, a heritage farmhouse and barn, and forest that extends into the Black Creek ravine. The property has a market garden, a food forest, greenhouses, an outdoor classroom, an outdoor brick pizza oven, a medicine-wheel garden, a mushroom garden, a chicken coop, and beehives. At the Farm There are a number of programs at the Black Creek Community Farm. The Urban Harvest program, a partnership with the City of Toronto, facilitates sharing of surplus harvest by community members with food banks. There are workshops about growing, cooking, and food preservation. Programs for seniors help prevent social isolation. Participants tend the gardens, cook together, and even have exercise programs together. Programs for school-age children build awareness of plants and growing—but also social justice and food justice. Adjowa Karikari, who facilitates student programming, also includes other topics that might grab the attention of students, including worms and worm composting, edible weeds, bugs, and weird plants and animals. Sunshine Community Garden Beyond the farm site, the Black Creek Community Farm has been involved in the creation of the Sunshine Community Garden on the property of a nearby high-rise apartment building. Agsaoay explains that the garden is more than just growing food: It's a way to build community. “Growing food is a great connecctor for people. It builds relationships and trust.” Mildred Agsaoay

Comedians Derek Gonzalez and Pockets Graham join Zac this week for another horror-filled trip to the hood. Adoption has never gone so wrong as in the third of this film franchise inspired by Stephen King. A clueless couple takes in two murderous children from a cult in Gatlin, Nebraska, and moves them to Chicago in an attempt to assimilate them with society. A cornucopia of tyrannical supernatural rage, sacrilegious mutiny, incestual undertones, and an array of hit-or-miss special effects, this film delivers on every level. It's Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest from 1995, directed by James D.R. Hickox.FOLLOW THE SHOW!Zac AmicoInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zacisnotfunny/Pockets GrahamInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/impockets/Twitter: https://twitter.com/impocketsDerek GonzalezInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/officiallyderickgonzalez/Twitter: https://twitter.com/thiskidaclownThe newest 15 episodes are always free, but if you want access to all the archives, watch live, chat live, access to the forums, and get the show five days before it comes out everywhere else - you can subscribe now at http://www.GaSDigitalNetwork.com and use the code ZAC for a 14-Day FREE Trial and save 15% on your subscription to the entire network.Check out https://www.PodcastMerch.com/ZAC to get EXCLUSIVE Zac Amico merchandise (including the Amico 666 Shirt seen on the Joe Rogan Experience!)

As we head into the second wave of the coronavirus, it's instructive to remember that Canada went through this a hundred years ago. The death toll was staggering - pegged at between 50 and 100 million worldwide. But many, like Edward Armagh ( ar-dah ) of Toronto, survived and he wrote his experiences down in his diary for us to be able to read today. Some of his symptoms are eerily similar to today, as was the rush to try unproven remedies. But we've come a long way, starting with our ability to get a handle on the numbers. Libby Znaimer spoke with historian Neil Orford. AND Love fresh Ontario produce? Or did you grow way more than your family can eat in the backyard garden and want to preserve it for year-round access? Preserving food has been handed down from generations and it's making a comeback. From canning, to pickling, preserves to jellies. Collette Murphy owns seed company Urban Harvest and she's been preserving food for half a century. No matter the reason, nostalgia, saving money or if you want to eat locally year round, Colette shares some tips for beginners and experts alike.

Whale Fall's Aaron Farinelli joins us to discuss the relative spookiness of corn products. Then, lists are done for no reason and Daniel has cause to make lots of Buffy references. Will we ever meet He Who Walks Behind the Rows?
Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest takes the story out of small-town USA.
Our first guest is Ciara Byrne, who tells us about the the organization Green Our Planet, which is training a generation of student “farmpreneurs.” Students operate farmers markets at schools—and, twice a year—there is a giant market with students from many schools setting up in one location. The next market will have over 700 fifth-grade students selling fruit and veg from school gardens. In the second half of the show, we chat about rooftop gardens with Hilary Dahl from the Seattle Urban Farm Company. The Amazon campus rooftop garden is a collaboration with a not-for-profit organization that uses food harvested from the garden for community culinary training programs. The building of many new multifamily dwellings in Seattle has given her the opportunity to be involved in a number of edible rooftop garden projects. She talks about rooftop challenges, and also considerations such as weight and irrigation. In the Tomato-Talk segment, Emma chats with Colette Murphy from Urban Harvest seeds about tomato varieties with a story.
Ryan and Derek set off for Chicago to talk about Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest.
It's getting real corny and real uncomfortable on this week's episode. Chef/owner of the El Topo food truck, Tony Luhrman, and Culinary Director Mike Serva chat with Chris and Greg in about how the duo moved into the Houston food truck scene having met while working at P.F. Chang's in San Antonio. The conversation turns to The Butcher's Ball, a charity event benefitting Urban Harvest. (October 20th, y'all.) Tony was the Golden Cleaver winner last year serving El Topo's signature barbacoa taco. The pair are opening a restaurant of the same name in December. Support the show.
You know you're from the Midwest when you're more disgusted watching a man eat a raw ear of corn like a goddamn savage than by the insane corn monster swallowing teenagers whole. Our 3rd listener submitted pick is CHILDREN OF THE CORN III: URBAN SACRIFICE (1995), and good lord is this movie good! This is 100% USDA organic HMN perfection in celluloid form, and we just can't say enough nice things about it. If you haven't seen it, THIS is the one that gets the show stamp of approval! Though we're left to wonder if Screaming Mad George has ever actually SEEN an ear of corn...This podcast is powered by Pinecast.

Welcome to the first instalment of our sub-set of show exclusively looking at the Slasher Collection releases of 88 Films. 88 Films have, for the last 3 years or so, have been on a tear releasing a torrent of Slasher Classics in high definition. In order to watch the movies I buy, and of course create some quality content for you all Under the Stairs, I will be running through each of the movies on this bonus series between 1-2movies a month depending on the TPUTS schedule. So strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of blades, masks, hairspray, blood, boobs, crimes against fashion and dialogue to make you CRINGE!! Disc 15 is Children of the Corn 3: Urban Harvest (1995) and is most certainly is NOT a slasher but let’s see what Duncan makes of this “Slasher Classic”. On this episode of Locally Grown In, join Henry Gordon-Smith and guests – Jeffrey Landau, Nele Lauwers, Stefaan Kint, Alexandre Van Deun, Olivier Paulus, and Alexandre Lefebvre – as they explore the local food system in Brussels, Belgium.Brussels is an ideal city for creating a regenerative agriculture system, being the political center of the European Union. This position in European politics and the physical position of Brussels to its surrounding farmland, gives Brussels a strong profile for urban agriculture initiatives. While the demand for organic and local food products is rising in the city of Brussels, rural farming around the city is producing products using conventional farming methods and directed for the European and world market. How can food production in and around the city meet local demands? A network of both urban and rural farmers could learn from each other in order to accelerate a healthy, local food production that plays an important role in feeding the city of Brussels. In this episode, we speak with Nele Lauwers, Stefaan Kint, and Alexandre Lefebvre and learn more about the ambitious targets set by the Good Food Strategy. The policy calls for a 30% reduction in food waste by 2020, 30% autonomy in fruit and veg by 2035, and a 30% increase in revenue from organic food. We also hear from entrepreneurs, Olivier Paulus and Alexandre Van Deun, who founded Urban Harvest a vertical farm in Brussels that uses a minimum input to produce a maximum yield. Have you listened to Episode 5 - Locally Grown In: Toronto? If not, check it out first!

Mr. Money Mustache shares his thoughts on the riches of the urban harvest. Episode 664: The Riches of the Urban Harvest by Mr. Money Mustache (Frugal Living & Financially Independent & Early Retirement) Mr. Money Mustache is a thirty-something retiree who now writes about how we can all live a frugal, yet awesome, life of leisure. He and his wife studied engineering and computer science in Canada, then worked in standard tech-industry cubicle jobs in various locations throughout the late '90s and early 2000s. Then they retired from real work way back in 2005 in order to start a family. This was achieved not through luck or amazing skill, but simply by living a lifestyle about 50% less expensive than most of their peers and investing the surplus in very boring conservative Vanguard index funds and a rental house or two. Her t-shirt says MODERN FARMER. Architect turned Agri-Innovator Mary Ostafi is one, in spades. Her vision, hard work and business savvy continues to grow St. Louis first urban farm on top of a downtown building: Urban Harvest STL. When Earthworms last talked with Mary, in June 2015, she was just digging in for her Food Roof's first, short growing season. She had blown through the roof of a Kickstarter campaign and secured a big stormwater management grant and was planting the seeds of her enterprising dream firmly atop the second story of a warehouse building in the city's core. This year, she and her largely volunteer team are fixin' to post achievement gains well over that first season's impressive growth of 1,033 pounds of food produced from 62 varieties of plants, with 60% of it donated to further Urban Harvest's mission to "Grow Food Where You Live!" Mary Ostafi's timing was perfect for planting her non-profit idea firmly into the living soil of both the sustainable food and food justice movements that are sweeping St. Louis and the country overall. Urban Harvest works in partnership with social service leaders like the St. Louis Food Policy Coalition, St. Patrick Center, St. Louis Metro Market and more, and has tapped into the farmer training program of EarthDance Farms to create one job in the farm's first year, and significantly boost the profile of all this collaborative energy. Plus eating WELL - and hosting parties! Check out the Food Roof as a volunteer, any Saturday morning - and get your tix while they last for RAISE THE ROOF, the first Urban Harvest fund-raiser on Thursday Sept 22 - which happily also happens to be the Autumnal Equinox. Earthworms salutes you, Mary Ostafi - YOU GROW GREEN GIRL! Thanks to Josh Nothum, Earthworms engineer. To clear up the question in this interview: a fruit is a seed-bearing structure that develops from the ovary of a flowering plant, whereas vegetables are all other plant parts, such as roots, leaves and stems. BUT there's overlap, thank you tomatoes - and always something else to learn.
Architect-turned-farmer Mary Ostafi's dream of Growing Food Where People Live is bearing fruit - and chard, eggplant, tomatos and flowers - atop a storage-unit building in downtown St. Louis. Mary's leadership has also harvested major $$ support, from crowd-funds to a Metropolitan Sewer District Project Clear grant. With veg in the "ground" and a biz-plan in hand, this city's first rooftop farm is growing connections between loft-living eaters, social service job programs, water conservation needs, and much more. Food Roof features include raised beds, aeroponics, a drainage board that can contain 17,000 gallons of rainwater (which won't run off to overload storm sewers), bee hives and a Milkweeds for Monarchs pollinator garden. Living lunch from a flat-roof ecosystem! This week's Earthworms podcast is a taste of what's evolving as the Urban Harvest Food Roof Farm - featured this week in the New York Times!
