POPULARITY
KEEPING THE FAITH WHILE FIGHTING FOR A SOLARTOPIAN GREEN-POWERED EARTH WHILE FINALLY BURYING THE NUKE POWER INDUSTRY We start our GREEP Zoom #221 with DR. NANCY NIPARKO & her exhortation to keep the faith & not lose hope, however difficult the times may be. The FAR OUT documentary film is endorsed by DR. RUTH STRAUSS who also demands the return of Abrego Garcia after he's been disappeared to El Salvador. The name of this terror victim is shouted out by MYLA RESON with the warning that this could happen to any and all of us at the whim of Donald Trump. ON ENERGY: From DOROTHY REIK we hear about SB540 which would open the door to new nukes & to kill the ability of California to control its own energy supplies. The legendary KEVIN KAMPS warns of the gargantuan subsidies proposed to insanely re-start Michigan's Palisades despite the exponential cost overruns already with us, and despite disturbing reports of an epidemic of cancer in a nearby golf club, indicating major radiation releases from the nearby reactor; there are “start dates” for nuclear disasters, he said, but there are no end dates. We're reminded by MIKE HERSH that a major driving force for the “civilian” reactor industry is the on-going production materials for atomic weapons. The radioactive insanity as spread over New Mexico is exposed by MYLA RESON. The horrors of the radioactive fallout from Trinity, the first atomic bomb test, has studied in part by JOE MANGANO of the Radiation & Health Project, who wonders what kind of health survey could be supported by Robert F. Kennedy's federal agency; RFK, Jr's uncle, the late US Senator Ted Kennedy, long ago advocated such a study. Joe tells us of a study involving 16 of the oldest US nukes & found a clear correlation between cancer death rates and early and later plant operations. California's 2018 master plan to phase out the two reactors at Diablo & phase in a renewable energy base is laid wholly at the feed of Gov. Gavin Newsom. Kevin Kamps tells us that at least 10% of the ratepayers in Georgia's Vogtle rate region can't pay their bills to keep their lights on because of the huge charges coming from the two new nukes. We then take the plunge into the stock market and the insider manipulations of Donald Trump's tariffs, whose announcements let his friends and family sell and buy at obscene levels of grift. We also delve into the little-discussed T-Bills/government bonds that have stabilized the US and global economies. The loss of confidence in T-bills could signal a death knell for the American economy as reflected by the global loss of confidence in the US economy and the Dollar. “Women Rising Radio” host LYNN FEINERMAN wonders if we are thus headed into a Depression…or are we already there? The importance of the bond market, says MIKE HERSH, is valued by very powerful moneyed interest whose presence in T-Bill markets can decide the fate of the global economy, especially as the US “credit rating” is being destroyed. The kinds of insider manipulations available to Trump have been worth incalculable grift to friends and family on the Trump Rolodex. Kissinger's “Mad Nixon” theory is raised by TATANKA BRICCA as we see maximum currency manipulation among those who own the bulk of global wealth. TATANKA warns further that the oligarchs want to cauterize our hearts & our souls, which can only be defeated with empathy and compassion. The California Fair Elections Act SB42 would repeal the ban on public financing of election campaigns, neutralizing the power of America's oligarchs. The documentary movie called “the Encampments” about Columbia's University's investments is introduced by DR. NANCY NIPARKO.
Olivia Matongo, VP of Programs for the Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter, join Dean Richards to share details about brain health and the Illinois Brain Health Project.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in 2021, 25% of Asian American adults with a mental illness reported receiving mental health services compared to 52% of White adults. Additionally, Asians were 2.25x more likely to report mental health treatment being ineffective. What is it about the Asian American community that their approachability to mental health and mental health care is lower than other demographics? Is it mistrust in the system? Is it disbelief in the concept of the services? Or can it be fear and shame to partake in these discussions and actually receive help? In this episode, we tackle the sensitive, often taboo, and stigmatized conversations that surround Asian communities and their mental well-being: the model minority myth, racism and microaggression, intergenerational trauma, guilt and shame within collectivist cultures, and the importance of culturally responsive mental health care.Carrie Zhang is the founder and executive director of the Asian Mental Health Project (AMHP), a non-profit organization that provides educational resources and community care initiatives to help de-stigmatize mental health and make it more accessible for the Pan-Asian community through social media, multimedia content creation, and community events. Carrie graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Public Relations and is a Policy and Research Associate at Rise Up Inc, focusing on civil rights.Alice Zhang, CEO and Nisha Desai, COO are the co-founders of Anise Health, an online holistic mental health service for the Asian community that incorporates cultural stressors into personalized treatments. Alice and Nisha were co-pupils at Harvard Business School for their MBA, where they saw and agreed on the importance of culturally-responsive providers and an integrated approach to executing data-driven treatment for Asian clients.Livestream Air Date: July 19, 2023Follow Asian Mental Health Project: InstagramFollow Anise Health: InstagramFollow Friends of Franz Podcast: Website, Instagram, FacebookFollow Christian Franz Bulacan (Host): Instagram, YouTubeThankful to the season's brand partners: Covry, House of M Beauty, Nguyen Coffee Supply, V Coterie, Skin By Anthos, Halmi, By Dr Mom, LOUPN, Baisun Candle Co., RĒJINS, Twrl Milk Tea, 1587 Sneakers

Fertilizer Canada estimates 60 percent of forage crops are under fertilized. Imagine, each ton of dry matter harvested from a hayfield removes 35-50 pounds of nitrogen and about 10 pounds of phosphorous. Nutrient removal through grazing is substantially less, but there is still a net loss of nutrients from the grazing system. Replenishing these nutrients can help to improve forage productivity. But it can be a tricky process.Dr. Jeff Schoenau is a professor and strategic research chair at the University of Saskatchewan's Soil Science department. He will talk about some strategies to get the most out of those valuable forage stands.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we talk to Tora Abrahams, Project Lead for the Black Women's Reproductive Health Project. In this interview, we discuss stigmas around menstruation for Black communities, paid period leave and how to get men involved in the conversation.Remember to like, rate and subscribe and enjoy the episode!Guest bioOriginally working in human rights law, Tora led a judicial review claim against the prison service for forcing a strip-search of her female client whilst she was menstruating. Following this successful claim, Tora identified other repeated misogyny within public services recognising that services were designed by men and for men, but failing women. After leaving the law, Tora moved to a charity specialising in gender specific services and soon after she found her passion in advocating for stronger conversations and attention to female reproductive rights. It was whilst managing a charity focusing on period poverty during the pandemic and following the global attention to BLM, Tora spearheaded the first ever UK project that looks into the menstrual-reproductive health journeys and needs of Black and Black-mixed British women.Tora is a mixed-race woman of South African heritage and speaks proudly of her family's ethnicity and history in leaving apartheid South Africa and setting themselves up in a small working class town of North West England. She is a passionate advocate for marginalised people, working her day job as a Business Development Consultant for non-profits specialising in racial and gender equality. She also designed the first menstrual health empowerment education programme delivered in Uganda, East Africa that engages both boys and girls to talk about periods. Tora is passionate about work in this space and welcomes conversations from men and women on topics of female reproductive health and racial injustice. Organization bioThe Black Women's Reproductive Health project supports African and Caribbean women with access to information, advocacy, peer support and has created the first ever UK report that details the menstrual-reproductive needs and experiences of Black and Black-mixed women. Our guests today are 29 year old Anna Cooper and 30 year old Gabz Pearson, both Endometriosis sufferers who struggled for years with symptoms and were only diagnosed after years of misdiagnosis and professional gaslighting. In this open and honest chat we discover how Anna, mum to a 7 year old daughter, has had 15 operations due to endometriosis and the length of time it took to diagnose and operate. She tells us that because of the years she was dismissed and told by several Health care professionals, including a Gynaecologist that she did not have Endometriosis, the tissue grew, damaging her bowel and bladder irreparably. Anna explains how this has impacted her both physically, emotionally and mentally. We chat with Gabz about her experiences leading up to her endo diagnosis and how since then she has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, IBS, Adenomyosis, chronic back pain and bulging discs. She tells us about her difficult decision around her fertility and a hysterectomy and the impact of chronic pain and medical menopause. Anna and Gabz connected on social media, becoming Instagram friends and bonding through the mutual demon of Endometriosis. They have become more like family and no long just cyber pals We ask them how the Menstrual Health Project began, and like all the best projects, they answer ‘around the dining room table one day……' They feel frustrated & deflated at the lack of information and support and don't want any other young girls at the beginning their menstrual journey to suffer as they have. It's a difficult yet inspiring conversation and another reason Lou & Jinty have faith in this younger generation to make the changes that are so needed in Womens Health. The Menstrual Health Project a charity who's mission it is to provide practical support for those suffering with menstrual health concerns and conditions through educational tools & resources to help people navigate more accurately and comfortably through whatever stage in life they are at, they want people to feel heard, empowered and informed. In this edition of Madison Book Beat, host Andrew Thomas speaks with Sami Schalk about her book, Black Disability Politics (2022, Duke University Press).Across six tightly-argued chapters and two praxis-focused interludes, Black Disability Politics explores how Black cultural workers have engaged disability as a social and political issue differently than the mainstream, white-dominated disability rights movement. In doing so, Schalk argues that because Black disability politics take on different qualities, the work has been overlooked or misrecognized within disability studies and Black studies alike. Using archival work on the Black Panther Party and the National Black Women's Health Project, as well as interviews with eleven contemporary Black disabled cultural works, the book offers a framework for both identifying and enacting Black disability politics for scholars and activists.“We cannot understand Black disability politics,” Schalk writes in the Introduction, “without engaging histories of anti-Black violence, scientific and medical racism, health disparities, health activism and environmental racism. We also cannot understand Black disability politics without exploring how Black people have conceptualized not only disability, illness, and disease but also health, wellness, and healing within our own communities” (9-10).Sami Schalk is Associate Professor of Gender & Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her interdisciplinary research focuses broadly on disability, race, and gender in contemporary American literature and culture. She has published on literature, film, and material culture in a variety of peer-reviewed humanities journals. You can find out more about her at samischalk.com and follow her @DrSamiSchalk.Cover photo courtesy of Duke University Press.

In Black Disability Politics (Duke UP, 2022) Sami Schalk explores how issues of disability have been and continue to be central to Black activism from the 1970s to the present. Dr. Schalk shows how Black people have long engaged with disability as a political issue deeply tied to race and racism. She points out that this work has not been recognized as part of the legacy of disability justice and liberation because Black disability politics differ in language and approach from the mainstream white-dominant disability rights movement. Drawing on the archives of the Black Panther Party and the National Black Women's Health Project alongside interviews with contemporary Black disabled cultural workers, Dr. Schalk identifies common qualities of Black disability politics, including the need to ground public health initiatives in the experience and expertise of marginalized disabled people so that they can work in antiracist, feminist, and anti-ableist ways. Prioritizing an understanding of disability within the context of white supremacy, Dr. Schalk demonstrates that the work of Black disability politics not only exists but is essential to the future of Black liberation movements. Dr. Sami Schalk is Associate Professor of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the author of Bodymind Reimagined: Disability, Race, Gender in Black Women's Speculative Fiction (Duke University Press, 2018).
