March 16, 2025Today's Reading: Luke 13:31-35Daily Lectionary: Genesis 16:1-9, 15-17:22; Mark 6:1-13O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! (Luke 13:34)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. People don't like to hear God's Word. It's uncomfortable, demanding, condemning. His Word calls a thing what it is and calls people what they are. Sinners. Enemies of God. God's Word doesn't mince words. And that's why Jerusalem kills prophets and stones apostles. People don't like to hear God's Word, so it must be silenced. Why did Jerusalem react so violently to the prophetic voices sent by God? The pattern of putting prophets to death shows that God's Word isn't just a few suggestions to improve already good people. It's a violent encounter of the holy God with sinful man. The prophets are well aware of this: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips,” lamented Isaiah at the foundation-shaking voice speaking God's Word (Is. 6:5). We are not that different from Jerusalem. Perhaps none of us have resorted to murder at the sound of God's Word, but we would rather it be silenced nonetheless. His Word makes us uncomfortable. It's demanding. Condemning. Even the preachers who are sent to proclaim it shy away from it. But even stopping your ears and despising God's Word is a violent attack on God.Violence is not God's nature, though. To curb sinful rebellion, God sometimes resorts to violent measures, but that's foreign to His nature. Jesus, the Son of God, shows the heart of God when He speaks as a mother hen. “How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!” And as the prophets before Him, Jerusalem put Him to death for speaking a Word that people don't want to hear. But then something ironic happens. When they kill this Prophet, He begins to gather His brood like a mother hen. “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself” (John 12:32). On the cross, His tender heart shed the blood that cleanses us from all sin. On the cross, He put hostility to death. With the New Testament of Jesus' Blood, there is no more violent encounter with God—only an invitation to His pierced side.In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.O God, You see that of ourselves we have no strength. By Your mighty power defend us from all adversities that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. The clear and concise teaching of Baptism from Scripture brings great comfort. Yet, questions continuously arise. We address the most common questions asked concerning Baptism according to the Word: Is someone actually saved when baptized? How can a baby have faith? Can a baptized person walk away from Christ? What happens to a person who dies before they are baptized? Is baptism a work? What do I need to be baptized? What should I do after my child is baptized? Rev. Dennis McFadden, pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, IN joins Rev. Brady Finnern to study Holy Baptism. Find your copy of the Book of Concord - Concordia Reader's Edition at cph.org or read online at bookofconcord.org. Hi, this is Cheree, and this is an introduction for season two of the Meditating the Word Podcast. I'm taking the podcast in a different direction for 2023. As Christians, we know it's important to spend time in God's Word. It helps us deepen our relationship with him and it helps us to understand his will for our lives... after all, his Word IS his will. It's our instruction manual for living a life of faith. Reading scriptures at church once or twice a week just isn't enough. We are told that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Reading God's Word daily helps us to grow in our faith. Meditating on what God's Word says helps us to understand his character and helps us build a strong foundation for our lives. By keeping our focus on God's Word (and the Bible says that Jesus IS the Word made flesh!) it helps us to become more and more like him, to transform our lives by renewing our minds to the Word. We don't live by bread alone, but by every Word from the mouth of God. And, since most of us eat every day, I believe we should also read God's Word daily. And maybe you've tried to read through the Bible in a year before and didn't make it through the year. Let's face it, there are a lot of reasons people find it hard to read the Bible every day. We're all busy, and you may struggle finding the time to add a daily Bible reading into your already busy schedule. Some people struggle with reading the Bible because they find it difficult to understand. And I'll admit, it can be a challenging book to read and sometimes it doesn't seem as though what we read is something that we can apply to our daily lives. Yet, scripture tells us that every word is useful for instruction and correction. Or maybe you have so many challenges in your life right now, that it's difficult for you to focus on reading the Bible. Even though it could be the single most important thing you do to turn your life around, you may struggle to focus on your faith because you are preoccupied with so many other things. Finally, many people simply lack the discipline or motivation to stick with it. It requires commitment. And if you don't make it a priority in your life, you will find it hard to consistently set aside time to read God's Word. It is my hope that this podcast will help you read through the entire Bible in 2023. The Bible is fascinating when you dig into it. It's one of the oldest and most widely read books in the world. The Old Testament was written mostly in Hebrew, with some of it in Aramaic. It includes the Torah (also known as the Five Books of Moses), the Nevi'im (Prophets), and the Ketuvim (Writings). It was written over a period of about 1,000 years, from around the 12th century BC to the 2nd century BC. The tets were originally passed down orally, and eventually written down and compiled into the books, chapters and verses that we know today. The New Testament is a collection of texts that tell of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and it includes letters (or "epistles") written by early Christian leaders, as well as the book of Revelation, which is a prophetic text that describes the end of the world and the return of Jesus. The New Testament was written in Greek during the 1st and 2nd centuries, and it is thought to have been compiled and edited by the early Christian community. We will read through the Bible chronologically -- which means it won't be in the same order you find in your Bible, but rather in the order the events took place historically. I may or may not add a little bit of commentary at the end of the day's reading, depending on how I am led. Each episode will last approximately 20 minutes. I will be following the Blue Letter Bible 1 year chronological plan. You can download a PDF of this plan from blueletterbible.org/assets/pdf/dbrp/1Yr_ChronologicalPlan.pdf. I will place a link in the notes. The version of the Bible I will be reading from is the World English Bible. It is a public domain version of the Bible in modern English, and I believe many people will find it easier to read and understand than the King James Version. And being in the public domain by the generosity of its translators, means I can record this podcast without violating any copyright laws. You can follow along in the Bible App, or with the browser version, which can be found at worldenglish.bible. Again, I will place a link in the notes. You may start the podcast at any time, you don't have to start at the beginning. The episodes will always be available if you want to go back and listen to one you missed, or re-listen to one again. It is my hope that having a daily podcast will help you stay motivated to read (or at least listen to) the Bible in a year. If you would like to support this podcast, you may do so by buying me a cup of coffee at http://Ko-fi.com/cheree. I'm excited to read the Bible with you in 2023. And can't wait to get started on January first. Until next time, be blessed and be a blessing. ----- Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/revo/blue-sky-thinking License code: LXSKRWA9VEDNCWPC

PSALMS Introduction To The Psalms PSALMS Bible Quiz….(08/29/22) What BOOK of the Bible Is at the VERY CENTER of The Bible?________________________________ The Longest Chapter in the Bible Is________________________________ The Shortest Chapter of The Bible Is____________ List 3 authors of the Psalms______________________________ ***EXTRA CREDIT*** Two Verses In a NT Gospel Mention ‘PSALMS' as Prophetic of Christ what are the verses?_____________________________________________________________________________ What Passage In the NT mentioning Psalms is prophetic of Judas betrayal of Christ? _____________________________________________________________________________________ What Three passages In The Epistles mention the Psalms in operation in the church for edification?_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Book at the Center of your Bible is PSALMS The Chapter In The Very Center of Your Bible Is PSALM 118 The fact can be argued depending on what Bible version you are using, but by most reckoning, the very center of the Bible when measured by chapter count is Psalms 118. . Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.2 Let Israel now say, “His mercy endures forever.” 3 Let the house of Aaron now say, “His mercy endures forever.” 4 Let those who fear the Lord now say, “His mercy endures forever.” Some Scholars say PSALM 117 is the center chapter of the Bible Notwithstanding, PSALM 117 IS the Shortest Chapter in God's Word 1) Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles! [a]Laud Him, all you peoples! 2 )For His merciful kindness is great toward us, And the truth of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord Here are some other fun facts surrounding Psalms 117 & 118: The longest chapter of the Bible falls just after this center chapter-- Psalm 119. The shortest chapter of the Bible falls just after this center chapter-- Psalm 117. There are exactly 594 chapters before Psalm 118, and exactly 594 chapters after it. When you add the number of chapters before Psalms 118 and those after, the sum is 1,118. And the verse at the very center of the Bible is Psalms 118:8. The Very Center Verse of God's WORD Is…. Psalm 118:8 - "It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man." (NIV) In following History this verse is 3500 years after creation & 3500 years until the close of the Millennium ( In the CENTER of All Time!!) This center verse of the Bible reminds believers to ask the question, "Are you centered in your trust in God?" It is a particular verse that reminds Christians to trust in God over trusting in themselves or other people. As Christians understand, God consistently provides for us and His grace is given to us freely. Even in the most difficult times, we should center ourselves by trusting in God. He is there making us strong, giving us joy, and carrying us when life weighs heavily on us. Miscellaneous Thoughts… “The PSALMS” Refers to the 150 songs under that title in the English O.T., sometimes called “The Psalter”, from the Greek psalterion, or psalmi;1st used in the Greek translation & version of the O.T. known as the Septuagint, (so called for the 70 translations from the Hebrew to the Greek) designated often LXX , & dating from 300-200 BC. The O.T. had 3 Main sections of Books …The Law, the Prophets, & the Psalms Each Psalm is an individual song The Psalms subject matter is without Limit The Psalms are also greatly varying forms of Poetry The Book of Psalms stands BETWEEN the Old & New Covenants Some Psalms spanned 1000 year period as between Moses & Hezekiah The Psalms show us the CENTRAL THEME of God's Word…His SON PSALMS is a ‘Spiritual Song Book' ,standing between the Cherubim PSALMS is LOADED With the Experiences of Jesus & His Church PSALMS shows to us God's Mercy, Love, & Judgment PSALMS is for All Men, in All Times & All Seasons In a ‘Nutshell' The Psalms is a devotional, through which Jesus wants to speak to us In The end each one of us is writing our own ‘Personal Psalm' Psalms are are useful as: The Christian's "hymnal" to assist us in our praise to God The Christian's "prayer book" in which we learn how to approach God in prayer The Christian's "book of evidences" to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ The Christian's "training guide" for living holy and righteous lives before God Reasons To Study The Psalms As Christians, we are commanded to utilize the Psalms: Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, (Ep 5:19) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Col 3:16) Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. (Jm 5:13) Thus the Psalms are useful for singing praises to God. They are also useful for teaching and confirming that Jesus is the Christ or Messiah. Note the use Jesus made of them (Lk 24:44-47), 44 Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” 45 And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures. 46 Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, [a]and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Psa 2:1-12; Psa 16:9-11; Psa 22:1-31; Psa 40:6-8; Psa 69:1-36; Psa 72:1-20; Psa 88:1-18; Psa 109:4-20; Psa 110:1-7; Psa 118:22;) and also Peter's use of them in his first gospel sermon (Ac 2:25-28,34-35). 25 For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. 27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.' 34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, 35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” '(Psalm 16:8-11, 73:23) The Aim Of This Study It is my prayer that as we study this book we will accomplish the following goals: Become more familiar with Old Testament poetry - This is essential to getting more out the Psalms, and important if we are to avoid misinterpreting them Develop an appreciation and working knowledge of the Psalms - So one may utilize them for his or her own comfort and encouragement, and in counseling and comforting others Glean a clearer picture of God's character - To better understand His love, mercy and deliverance towards the righteous, but also His wrath and judgment against the wicked Learn more of the Christ in prophecy - To note descriptions of His suffering and glorious reign found in the Psalms, some of which are not found elsewhere in Scripture Consider examples of fulfilled prophecies - To see in fulfilled prophecy irrefutable arguments for the inspiration of the Scriptures, and for the claim that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah We will do (STUDY)this in TWO WAYS…..a.) Individual Psalms b) Taking a ‘Theme' (like Praise, fear etc…) & studying it throughout the Entire Book of Psalms MORE Reasons To Study The Psalms……………. Shows Characteristics Of Hebrew Poetry(Psalms is part of the poetic ‘BOOKS'—Job, Proverbs, Ecc. & SofS also) Before we get into the background of the Psalms themselves, it may prove beneficial to consider some things about Hebrew poetry. Not only will this help to better understand the nature of the Psalms, but it can also assist in proper interpretation of this portion of Scripture. NOTE: wherein the English language of poetry has a clear rhyme & meter there is not a clear consensus on the REAL flavor of Hebraic poetry…Hebrew is a fluid language, & Poetry has 5 Hebrew meanings , with some words showing opposite meanings. One of the things that makes Hebrew poetry different is... The Use Of "Thought Rhyme" Also known as "parallelism", thought rhyme involves arranging thoughts in relation to each other. This is done without a concern as to whether certain words rhyme with each other (as found in most modern poetry). In the Psalms, we find several different kinds of thought rhyme: Synonymous parallelism - The thought of first line is repeated in the second line, expressed in different words for the sake of emphasis. A good example is found in Ps 24:2...For He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the waters. (same idea, reworded) Antithetical parallelism - The truth presented in one line is strengthened by a contrasting statement in the next line. Consider this example from Ps 1:6...For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish. (note the contrast) Synthetic parallelism - The first and second lines bear some definite relation to each other (such as cause and effect, or proposition and conclusion). A good example is Ps 119:11...Your word I have hidden in my heart, (cause) That I might not sin against You! (effect) Progressive parallelism - There are several varieties of this form, the most common being:Stair-like - Composed of several lines, each providing a complete element of the aggregate or composite thought. Notice Ps 1:1...Blessed is the man... Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; (note the progression) Climatic - Here the principal idea in the first line is repeated and expanded to complete the thought. An example is found in Ps 29:1...Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones (give what?) Give unto the LORD glory and strength. (the answer) Introverted parallelism - The first line is closely related in thought to the fourth, and the second to the third. For example, consider Psa 91:14...Because he has set his love upon Me, (note line 4) therefore I will deliver him; (note line 3) I will set him on high, (note line 2) because he has known My name. (note line 1) Contrasted parallelism –The 1st line is in contrast to the 2nd line (Ps. 1:6) Blessed is the man…..But His delight It is often fascinating to note how creative the Hebrew poets were as they composed their poetry using "thought rhyme" rather than "word rhyme". In some cases it even helps in interpreting difficult expressions or phrases. Another characteristic of Hebrew poetry is... The Lack Of Poetic Rhythm Much modern poetry has standard measures of identifiable rhythm, as in the poem "Mary Had A Little Lamb." With the Hebrews, however, the art of poetic rhythm was of secondary consideration. Some suggest that it is not likely that the Hebrew poets had standard measures, worked out and carefully defined. Again, their focus was on "thought rhyme," not "word rhyme." Finally, an important characteristic of Hebrew poetry is... The Use Of Figurative Expression The Psalms are filled with figurative expressions, and as such it is important to keep certain principles of interpretation in mind... The figure must be accepted and dealt with as a figure of speech, not as a literal statement For example, in Ps 18:31, the Lord is called "a rock." He is like a rock, but not one literally. In Ps 51:4, David says "Against You, You only, have I sinned." Yet he is confessing his sin of adultery with Bathsheba, in which he sinned not only against the Lord, but against his wife, against Uriah, and many others. David was speaking figuratively for the sake of expressing his deep grief in sinning against God, and we must allow for figurative expressions including hyperbole in poetic writings. One needs to be careful and not develop doctrinal beliefs upon what may be figurative expressions not intended to be taken literally. The figure must be interpreted in light of its meaning in the setting in which it was used For example, in Ps 23:4, we find the well-known phrase: "the valley of the shadow of death." It is not uncommon to hear the phrase applied at funerals to the act of dying. In the setting of the psalm, however, it refers to a treacherous place (such as a steep valley, where deep shadows can easily cause a misstep resulting in death), where the guiding hand of a shepherd would be very helpful to sheep to avoid death. It is therefore applicable to any time one is in perilous straits and in need of God's guiding hand. The Language of Similar sounds…(Psalm 132 …broad, guttural sounds, like a dirge)…words that sound like what they mean…cuckoo, splash, ping pong…kol-be-seder=Copacetic ….leviatin=Leviathan)………The Hebrew language is a language of SOUND that impacts our feelings & emotions………Emotion was part of the Hebrew communication, it should be likewise for us…Our communication IS 78% non-verbal. Lyrical Poetry- Poetry based on lyrics…the language is a perfect fit for the actions , it gives great pictures, broad concepts, & distinct sounds….(Psalm 110) Appreciating these characteristics of Hebrew poetry can help the Psalms become more meaningful, and understanding these characteristics can also help avoid misinterpreting the Psalms to teach doctrines the psalmist had no intention of teaching!
This week the double-parsha of Matot-Masei (from Numbers 30:2 on) completes the Book of Numbers. But it is the very first chapter of the set that Mark has long suggested is among the most vital in all of Scripture when it comes to understanding Yah-ordained authority in marriage and the family, and, especially today, why it is that this nation and world are utterly collapsing as men and institutions built on trust are no longer even worthy of contempt. Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a two-part study of the Torah portion that teaches what most 'sun-god day' churches have long ignored, and far to many politicians, "doctors," and "journalists" despise. First, the Erev Shabbat reading and outline of the entire parsha. But, especially, the value of understanding the 'power of the tongue': https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/SSM-7-30-22-Matot-Num-30-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3 The Sabbath teaching is again 'no holds barred.' Because life and death are in the power of the tongue. (Proverbs 18:21) And - for so many reasons, and on SO many levels - it's why a society without trust doesn't have a prayer. God's Word Is at Work in You - Morning Prayer
The Spirit Explodes Part 2 of 22 - The Gift of the Holy Spirit by Roger Kirby Acts 1:14 – 2:13 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, ‘Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.' (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) ‘For,' said Peter, ‘it is written in the Book of Psalms: ‘“May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,” and, ‘“May another take his place of leadership.” Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.' So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, ‘Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.' Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles. Acts 2 - The Holy Spirit comes at Pentecost When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: ‘Aren't all these who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs – we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!' Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, ‘What does this mean?' Some, however, made fun of them and said, ‘They have had too much wine.' Almost exactly 50 days after their great redemption from Egypt the ancient people of God met him at Sinai. In New Testament times the people of Israel celebrated that day in the feast of Weeks, which brought a great crowd to Jerusalem. We call that day ‘Pentecost' which means the 50th day. Before we proceed perhaps we should say something about the Trinity. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had the personal name of YAHWEH, as Moses was told in Exodus 3. In most English Bibles this name is indicated by the word LORD, in capital letters, reflecting the fact that in Biblical times they did not say the name YAHWEH, but substituted their word for Lord. We will say ‘LORD God‘. The LORD God is referred to in many ways in the OT: as Spirit (Is 63: 7, 10 where we read ‘I will tell of the kindnesses of the Lord, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the Lord has done for us – yes, the many good things he has done for Israel' And then ‘Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit.), as Wisdom (Prov 1: 20, 29 where we have ‘Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,' and then ‘they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord.), • as Word (Is 55: 11 ‘my word goes out from my mouth: it will achieve the purpose for which I sent it), as Law (Ps 19: 7 ‘The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.). To a greater or lesser extent these were spoken of, or related to, almost as if they were the LORD himself. This prepares us for the NT where first Jesus, then the Holy Spirit, are referred to in ways that indicate they are the LORD: the same LORD God but a different person. There is one God but three persons. God the Father is in heaven. Jesus God is with him after effecting our salvation through his death on the Cross, Spirit God is with us in the everyday, mediating the things of God and Jesus to us. The passage we are about to look at today tells us how the presence of the Holy Spirit was signalled to the early disciples. It sets the tone for how we are to understand his presence. When Isaiah “saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,” he was overcome with an awareness of his sin and “unclean lips” (Is. 6:1, 5). But the Lord atoned for his sin, took away his guilt and sanctified his lips with “a burning coal” from the altar (Is. 6:6–7). Not only was he rescued from death, but he was called and sent as a prophet of the Lord's Word (Is. 6:8–9). Similarly, when Simon Peter and his companions “enclosed a large number of fish” at the Word of Jesus, he humbled himself and said, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:4–8). But Jesus comforted Simon, called him to discipleship and declared that he would be “catching men” (Luke 5:10–11). So in the Office of the Ministry, the Church remains the little boat from which Jesus teaches His people (Luke 5:3). Thus are we instructed in the faith, so that we say “Amen” and return thanks with heart, mind, tongue and life. CELEBRATING OUR 50TH EPISODE TODAY!!! God has been so good to us here at Thy Word is True! Monday MEDS: Meditation on God's Word IS the right prescription for every Christian!
Monday MEDS is BACK!!! Pray the Lord will Bless you through this devotion! "Meditation on God's Word IS the right prescription for EVERY Christian"
Scripture For Today:Psalm 6:9“The Lord has heard my cry for mercy; the Lord accepts my prayer.”God's Word is God's Will pt 2Yesterday, we started to look at something that I said would grow your Faith exponentially in ways that you would never experience any other way. That is to know and understand that “God's Word IS God's Will.” Amen! We looked yesterday at 1 John 5:14-15 that says, “…and this is the confidence that WE HAVE – IN HIM! That, if we ask ANYTHING according to what? HIS WILL – He hears us. And if we KNOW that HE hears us, whatsoever we ask, we KNOW that we HAVE the petitions that we desire of Him…” Another translation says, “And this the BOLDNESS we have towards Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Almost immediately, our carnal, natural minds want to focus on the phrase, “…according to His will…” That is why many misguided people, pastors included, often pray, “Lord, do this or that, IF it be thy will…” Other times, we pray for things about which we already have God's Word, so we KNOW His will concerning those things. When we insert a phrase that expressed doubt and unbelief, like “IF it be thy will…” it is incorrect and negates our entire prayer! We already KNOW His will because we know what His Word says! To say, “If it be thy will” when you already KNOW His Word and His will, is confessing YOU DOUBT His Word! You are telling Him, the angels and THE DEVIL that you really, really, REALLY deep down in your heart and soul, DO NOT BELIEVE HIS WORD! That is dangerous area for any believer to be operating in! Not believing His Word? How can you have faith in your salvation then? How can you have Faith that Jesus actually did what the Word said He did? How can you have Faith that Jesus is actually the Son of God manifested in the flesh? How can you have Faith that He really did rise from the dead? How can you have Faith that YOU are going to Heaven? How? Go ahead, I'll wait…answer me… Folks, God's Word IS the revealed Will of God! Therefore, if you learn and know what the Word of God says, YOU know what the will of God IS. Amen! Some misguided folks believe that the only way you can know the Will of God is by praying, “If it be they will.” I heard a famous preacher that I follow, well “followed,” back when I first began my walk of Faith. He has since gone on to be with the Lord… He said in a meeting one time, talking about this very thing, that once he was called to his deacon's house because his wife was extremely sick. The deacon was obeying the word and called for him to come, based upon James 5:14-15. But this minister knew, even though this woman was a Sunday school teacher, her husband a deacon and they had been with him for close to 20 years, sitting under his teachings, etc., that she may not have developed a deep, abiding Faith in the Word. And the only way to find out, according to the Word, is “out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” So, as he prepared to anoint her and pray for her, he asked, “Sister, will you be healed as I anoint you with oil, lay hands on you and pray over in Jesus Name?” Her response, “I will be if it's God's Will.” He said, “How are you going to know if it's God's Will?” Now, the ONLY right answer there is “It's in His Word. It says I'm healed, therefore I AM HEALED!” But she did not say that, she replied, “When you pray, IF I'm healed, THEN I will know it is God's Will for me to be healed.” It's amazing, how someone can sit under anointed teaching for most of their life and still MISS what the Word of God is truly about. AMEN! If it is IN the Word – It IS God's Will. Period. End of discussion! Amen! Let's Pray! Scripture For Today: Romans 15:30“I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.” Walking in the Light of God's Word pt 1Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it should be done unto you.” We have been studying about “God's Word Needs to Abide in Us” for several days, but today I want to pivot a little bit and talk with you about “Walking in the Light of God's Word.” We covered yesterday that the Word of God is a light unto our path – and it is. Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of your Word gives light.” As I shared yesterday, if you have God's Word in your heart, it will shine a light onto your path. You are then able to walk in the light and you can make progress on what you are trying to do and achieve the results you are seeking. His Light shines into the darkness and reveals the plots of the devil as he is trying to trip you up. But that can only happen when you have His Word in your heart. Not in your mind – in your heart. Amen! If there is no action on your part to put God's Word into your heart, then your path will be dark and it will be easier for the devil to trip you up or send you down a wrong turn. Light on your path only comes through God's Word and the Word only comes through your eyes, your ears and into your heart. There is no other way. You cannot tattoo the Word of God on your body, proclaiming your faith and think that is impressing Jesus or will get you into Heaven. It does not work that way. Also, notice there is nothing in this verse talking about STANDING in the light. Nothing. First John 1:7 says, “If we WALK in the Light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another.” It does not say, “If we stand in the Light.” It does not say, “If we look at the light.” It does not say, “If we think about the Light.” It does not say, “If we memorize the light.” It says “IF WE WALK in the Light…” God's Word IS a light unto our path. A path is something we walk on. To walk implies action on our part – not God's part. To walk down that path, only with the Word of God shining a light on the next step – takes Faith. Faith in the Light. Faith in the Word of God. Faith in God Himself. Amen! So, if we put together the last several different sessions we have been studying, you come to this realization. To get ANYTHING from God, we must do several things… First, we must pray TO THE FATHER When we pray, we do so IN THE NAME OF JESUS We then must ASK for what we desire Then we must BELIEVE WE RECEIVE our prayers as answered. Then we must ACT as if we have received the answer. Not looking for the answer in the natural – just believing we have already received it and that it will respond in the natural based upon the Spiritual answer we already have When we do that – we WILL see the results! We have Jesus's promises on it – as we have already discussed. Several scriptures – I'm not going to go back over them, but let just leave you with Mark 11:24, praise God! “Therefore, I say unto you, whatever you ask for, in prayer, believe that you have received it and it shall be yours…” Amen! Monday Meditation (Meds) "Meditation on God's Word IS the right prescription for every Christian"
Scripture For Today: Jeremiah 37:3 “King Zedekiah, however, sent Jehukal son of Shelemiah with the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to Jeremiah the prophet with this message: “Please pray to the Lord our God for us.” God's Word Needs to Abide in Us pt 2We have been talking about having the Words of Jesus abide in you. Yesterday, we found out that the key to getting our prayers answered is simple. Abide in Jesus and let His Words abide in you. Amen. There is only one problem of not having enough faith to receive the answers to your prayers when the Word does not abide in you. If the Word is not abiding in you, in your heart, then faith is not abiding there either. You cannot have Faith in the Word if the Word is not in your heart. But, if the Word IS abiding in you, then the Faith to believe the Word is there, too! Amen! If the Word is not abiding in you, you could agree with the Word. You could mentally say, “I believe.” But there is no power there. Why? Because there is no Faith there. You could get up on top of your roof and yell all day, “I believe I receive.” But if there is no faith there, if the Word is not abiding in you, then you will only end up with a sore throat by the end of the day – and not have enough faith to get that healed either. On the other hand, if you have been studying the Word of God; if you have been consistently feeding your spirit man the Word of God on a regular basis, you have FAITH dwelling in your heart TO believe. Amen! So if just a sore throat popped up, you could simply say, “No, I'm not having that. By His Stripes I was healed. If I was healed then I am healed. I declare my healing of this sore throat. Jesus said whatsoever I ask of Him, He would do. Ask is a DEMAND…I DEMAND the demon of sickness behind this sore throat leave now. IN THE NAME OF JESUS, I DEMAND it. Now, Lord Jesus, I do thank you right here and now that your Word is True. I believe my throat is healed and that's the way it is. I praise you Lord that I abide in you and your Word abides in me. In Jesus Name. Amen! “Well, brother Bob, what if it doesn't work?” Well, you want to know the truth? You're right! If that is what you believe; if that is what you confess – then the devil wins every single time. It's that kind of attitude that STOPS you, that STOPS others, from receiving their prayers as answered. I was the National Concert Coordinator for Dr. Vernard Johnson Ministries. We had a concert in Toledo, Ohio. That is only about 90 minutes or so from my home in Michigan. So I want a couple of days early to spend some time with my dad. The morning of the concert, I was to go to the event center and start the set up of everything. I woke up that morning with flu symptoms. Fever, cough, an extremely runny nose. No energy. I prayed, and drove the 90 minutes there. Worked all day coordinating the load in and set up. My day started at about 6am and I arrived at the convention center at 10am. Sound checks with the musicians was at 3pm. Briefing the volunteers was at 5pm and the doors opened at 6pm. The concert started at 7pm with Dr. Johnson taking the stage at 8:15pm and going until 9:30pm. Then the load out started. I finished at 11pm. I was so sick, I could barely talk. But I was also the MC for the evening. I was also delivering the short sermon theme for the evening. I was NOT going to let this devil stop me from doing my job, which was to be part of ministering the Word to that city. It was a SOUL WINNING CONCERT. And no devil in hell was going to stop me. I was in a constant state of prayer ALL DAY LONG. I got through it. Once we had loaded out, I went upstairs to Dr. Johnson's room to tell him we had cleared the arena and I was going to drive the 90 minutes back to my father's house. I guess I looked like a sight! He insisted I stay at the hotel, called downstairs and got me a room. I...

This IS "Monday Meds" Meditation on God's Word IS the everyday prescription for EVERY Christian!
God's Word shows us how to live according to His ways and Word as opposed to what we merely SEE with our physical eyes. As Christians, we are called to live according to what we read in God's Word as opposed to what we see in the media and on the internet and television. What we see is often not the truth, What we read in God's Word IS the TRUTH. How we as Christians are to live in an image based culture is essential to the Christian walk. Here is a small chat at the end of our interview with Glenn Zottola discussing trumpet mouthpieces. Glenn's father made the famous Zottola brand which is used by players worldwide. As part of the bonus, we have included a whole track with Glenn playing the trumpet and sax solos on the track "Blue Lou". This is a really great piece of hot jazz and swing recorded in 1983 in Scarborough in the UK. Glenn said about the track; "When I left Benny Goodman I was inspired and I wanted to get the intensity hew got with his famous trio without bass with Teddy Wilson and Gene Krupa. I remember when I played with Benny on the tune "The Word Is waiting For The Sunrise” he would wave the rhythm section out and just play with guitar at that fast tempo. I was amazed as the intensity was the same with or without the rhythm section! I went on tour in England with Peanuts Hucko and it was called the Anglo American All-Stars and we had Len Skeat, Roy Williams and Danny Moss. The drummer was from England who was the agent for the package and Mark Shane, a great pianist out of the Teddy Wilson mould who was on the Bob Wilber trio, with me. So we formed the Classic Jazz Trio did several tours in England and released one album. After that and much before Wilber, Benny Goodman etc. I left the “classic jazz” scene for Hollywood and Television having achieved my goals a whole other story and episode began on my musical journey." Commitment isn’t what it used to be. In sports there are terms like “fair weather fan” or “jumping on the bandwagon”. Both describe fans that are committed to a team only when things are going well. However, it’s not just in sports. Lack of commitment can be seen in the Christian life. The lack of church membership, the forsaking of church attendance, and a diminished desire for service, reveal a lack of commitment among believers. With this in mind, how is your commitment to God’s Word? Is it your one and only? 4 Attitudes: 1. God’s Word must be our one and only _______________ (Psalm 119:113-114). 2. God’s Word must be our one and only _______________ (Psalm 119:115). 3. God’s Word must be our one and only _______________ (Psalm 119:116-117). 4. God’s Word must be our one and only _______________ (Psalm 119:118-120) So Remember: 1. The double-minded expose themselves to _______________. Get _______________! 2. You’re influenced by what you’re _______________ to. Be _______________! 3. There’s a lot of _______________ support in the world. Imitate _______________! (“It is written”) 4. The ways of the world don’t _______________ up. God’s Word _______________!
Satan comes to steal the Word. The enemy will use discouragement, disappointment, and negative changes in circumstances to try and convince you that the Word isn't working. We also talk all about She Reads Truth - about how quickly it's grown and how one of their employees is now Raechel's husband, making her his boss (which would never work in the Ivey household, but Raechel makes it sound like a dream). And finally, we talk about God's faithfulness through good times and hard times and how to be a friend to someone walking through the trenches. In the show, Raechel and I talk briefly about the She Reads Truth Bible. Y'all, I can't recommend this Bible enough. It's so beautifully put together. Pr. Matt Richard continues discussing his paper, “Why the Doctrine of Predestination Matters.” What happens when we try to reconcile the seemingly contradictory doctrines of 1) original sin with 2) God’s justification of the sinner and 3) God’s eternal election? Why should we keep these doctrines “in tension” according to God’s Word? Is the teaching … Continue reading Predestination, part 2 →
In which experiential journalist Rak Razam dialogues with Professor Diana Slattery of the McKenna Chair of Xenolinguistics at the Institute for the Encouragement of Outrageous Ideas. Slattery is one of the world's foremost experts on the art of alien languages or xenolinguistics, and in this fascinating interview Razam and Slattery speak the unspeakable about the linguistic phenomena of the psychedelic experience. What if on some level we are made of sound? What if in the beginning was the Word? Is language itself a cosmic app downloaded and upgraded by higher consciousness? How can we translate and anchor multidimensional experiences into our baseline understanding, and can doing so transform our DNA and reality? Slattery's thesis, expounded in her forthcoming book: Xenolinguistics: Psychedelics & Language at the Edge of the Unspeakable, involves interior dialogues with the Other, whether framed as the voice of the Logos, an alien download, or communion with ancestors and spirits. Sentient visual languages are encountered, their forms unrelated to the representation of speech in natural language writing systems. Slattery constructs a theoretical model of linguistic phenomena encountered in the psychedelic sphere for the field of altered states of consciousness research (ASCR). She has also received and anchored the Glide Oracle, a higher dimensional, gestural glyph language now available as an app on the iPhone. Turn on, tune in, and go translinguistic in this seminal interview. For more information see Slattery's website: Psychedelics and Language. Proudly supporting the Psychedelic Science 2013 conference. Recorded Sun, 13 Nov 2011 10:30:00 -0400 Confrontaion and Correction 2 Timothy 2:23-26 Central Truth: As God’s useful servants, the spiritual leaders of the church are to confront and correct those in sin and serious doctrinal error. Parallel Passage: Matthew 7:1-6 Correction must be done in wisdom. (23) Is the person involved in clear disobedience to God’s Word? Is the person denying a fundamental of the faith? What is your goal in arguing the issue? Correction must be done in love. (24-25a) Correction is not quarrelsome. Correction must be kind to all. Correction must be based in Biblical teaching. Correction must be patient when wronged. Correction must be done in gentleness. Correction must be done for the sake of souls. (25b-26) The destiny of our souls are at stake. The assurance of our purpose is secure.
