Adam shares his journey from serving 18 years in the military to founding Active Duty Passive Income, an education company focused on teaching military members and veterans how to invest in real estate. Adam discusses his passion for entrepreneurship and the flexibility it provides, especially as a father of three and a homeschooling parent. His insights on transitioning from military life to business leadership highlight how entrepreneurship can empower individuals to create lasting influence in their personal and professional lives. Adam also dives deep into how his personal life experiences, particularly his marriage, shaped his financial habits and introduced him to real estate investing. His wife's family, with their immigrant roots and investment strategies, inspired him to pursue real estate, ultimately leading to a thriving business. Adam emphasizes the importance of setting a strong foundation in entrepreneurship and how aligning personal values with business goals can lead to both financial success and a positive family life. The episode also explores Adam's lessons from military leadership and how he had to adjust his assertive, top-down communication style when entering the civilian business world. He highlights the value of emotional intelligence in leading teams and managing relationships. Finally, Adam encourages listeners to embrace core values in both family and business life, sharing his experiences with implementing EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) in his business, and how defining core values has helped his family and company stay aligned and focused on growth. We settled in St. Louis, Missouri where I lived for the next 16 years. When I was 18 years old, I enlisted into the US Army as a CH-47 "Chinook" repairer and was assigned to Hawaii for my first duty station. During my time in Hawaii, I started investing a lot of my money into stocks and different side hustles. I moved back to the mainland. While educating myself on single-family homes, I learned about multi-family real estate. I quickly realized that I can achieve my financial goals much quicker through multi-family real estate and pivoted my education towards that niche. I joined a mastermind through Active Duty Passive Income where I networked with other service members and veterans and became educated on multi-family real estate. Join Vince Gethings, as he chats with Adam La Barr as he shares about how he got started doing REI and how the transition went, coming from a military background. Adam has a background in coaching as well with his company APDI where he helps coach and mentor over 40,000 members, especially military members and veterans alike, and teaches them to build their passive income. It was at a point in Adam's life that he realized he needed to straighten up the way he utilizes his money as well because he noticed how his wife has a savings account and then decided to build up his passive income along with his investments as well. So much to unpack especially with Adam's wisdom that he earned through years of experience so be sure to stay tuned! Being involved: Adam shares that the biggest lesson he learned from his first-ever deal is to be more involved with the team effort. During the first deal, he was living in Japan which gave him an excuse to let the deal take its course on its own. He was slightly in doubt because he didn't think that his experience dealing with contractors back in the military would come into play in the real estate field. He also shares how you shouldn't fear to use your knowledge from a different “arena” to another one because that'll help you transform your existing skillset into the one that you need for the new practice you're undertaking. By the fire round, Adam shares how you should trust yourself in order to move forward as his final advice. He says that trusting yourself means surrounding yourself with your team, making sure you get past that imposter syndrome and building up the confidence to know that you can get your job done. Put yourself in the right community for your endeavor as well, in order to learn not only technical knowledge but also the behavior, the habits, the mindset, and push yourself forward with what you gain from your environment, further helping with the confidence build up and in turn be able to do more. About Adam La Barr: Adam was an Air Force brat before joining the Air Force and traveling the world. Adam is married to his wife, Raquel, who was instrumental in his decision to start investing in real estate as she saw its power through her family's investments. Adam and Raquel have two crazy boys and they love spending time with them while building their real estate empire. His first investment property was a 62-unit apartment which he bought while living in Japan! Adam currently co-leads Active Duty Passive Income's Military Multifamily Academy and Mastermind where he utilizes his passion for property research and underwriting to help guide and coach new investors. He loves teaching other people how to invest, and while he claims to be no expert, he will gladly teach all he knows to anyone who will listen. Whether you plan on staying in for 3 years or 30 years, some day you will be a civilian again and will need to find a new source of income. ~ Connect with Tim! CEO and Founder of Active Duty Passive Income, Markian Sich separated from the US Marine Corps in 2021 where he was trained as a CH-53E “Super Stallion” Pilot as well as Public Affairs Officer. Markian is a third-generation Ukrainian immigrant who learned about the opportunities that our great country provides its citizens from the example set by his parents and grandparents. To secure his financial future, Markian began pursuing real estate investing shortly after graduation from the United States Naval Academy. His successes inspired him to teach other members of the military about real estate investing, which is how Active Duty Passive Income, the education platform, company and community, was born.https://www.activedutypassiveincome.comProduced by Brotallion, LLChttps://www.brotallion.com

For Eric, avid podcast listeners must look into the guests they listen to more than just listening to what they have to share. For one, Eric believes that he is a plain and simple example of how anybody can do what he did as an investor. Just like his listeners, Eric embraces his regularity. And just like any regular dude, if it was possible for him, it is possible for you too. In this episode of Wealth Science Podcast, Eric Upchurch shares his story of becoming an accidental landlord, the importance of commitment and coachability to success, what they aim to achieve in ADPI as its co-founder, and so much more. Take away a standard for communication in this episode of Wealth Science with guest Eric Upchurch! Eric on being an over communicator When you're in a business where you regularly check with lawyers, talk to SCC attorneys, and talk to lenders all the way up to closing, communication is a massive part of success. And that communication should be embedded in all teams. For Eric, that is non-negotiable. As a leader of teams, communication is a must for all of his members in every part of the transaction. For a team to be a successful mechanic to any business, Eric believes that everyone must learn to constantly push in information. He, or any leader, shouldn't have to continually pull out data from key team members and updates regarding integral processes. "Hey, I just completed this task" is significantly different from having to be asked, "Hey, did you finish that task?" What does Eric Upchurch use to address veteran homelessness? We often fear a new venture because we fear the possibility of failure. But, if you keep stressing about this “possibility,” you rob yourself of the chance to succeed. Not only that but only in trying do we find what we truly want and learn how to get it. All you need to do is take that first step. Invest in yourself and see where it takes you. Today, we have someone who did just that, where he took those first steps to a better future, which eventually became his “now.” In this episode of Wealth Science Podcast, Tim Kelly shares how he made the jump from single-family to multifamily, why we should find others with the same goals as us, and how to build genuine relationships with a go-giver mindset. Also, learn why investing in yourself is the best investment you can ever make in this episode of Wealth Science with guest Tim Kelly! Why Your Mindset Is Your Reality To succeed in any venture, you need to have the mindset to keep going until you do. However, this mindset can only be a result of believing in yourself. After all, even if you have all the skills and knowledge in the world, you won't go anywhere if you are too scared to take that first step. Unfortunately, we live in a society of consumers where fear is built into our DNA through different systems, from schools, workplaces, and even our own homes. In turn, we never had the freedom to think about what we want, let alone how to get it. But with the pandemic, a lot of us got to contemplate what's important to us. Then again, overthinking can lead to doubt, hence why immediate action should always follow. For instance, Tim often experienced in his coaching session that even the most high-performing students “fail” because they let the failure and the possibility of failure stop them, robbing them of a chance at success. And so, if you want success to be your reality, see even the worst failures as steppingstones to your success. After all, failure only buries you if you let it, so instead, let failure empower you to keep going. Stay tuned as Tim talks more about changing your mindset to change your reality in this episode of Wealth Science!
