This morning we continued our series "Hevel Under The Horizon" going through the wisdom book of Ecclesiastes chapter seven. This sermon titled "Living The Better Life " was preached by Pastor Thomas Terry. The Preacher gives us practical principles of how to live the better life in a world where putting your trust or hope in anything temporary is vanity. To live a better life under the horizon, instead of trusting in accumulation of wisdom, or trusting in your own righteousness, or focusing on the past, focus on long term character and integrity. Don't run from life's painful and difficult parts, rather lean into them. Live into each moment patiently and humbly, not letting your anger get the best of you. Live in light of God's providence which will allow you to sit in the tension of trials, while tasting the joys of life, knowing God providentially provides both. Embrace life's paradoxes, and avoid self-righteousness and hypocrisy. Finally, lean into wisdom despite it's limitations, let wisdom lead you toward the better life.

Do you keep a daily journal? And if so, is it really helping you live a better life?Is that time commitment making a difference or has it become a tired habit?Maybe it's time to refresh your approach. (And if you don't journal at all, don't worry, there's plenty of advice here to get started.)Through journaling we are forced to take accountability for ourselves and our choices. You hold the key to a better life!If you're ready for a fresh, new way to journal, and you want to know exactly how to live your best life in 2023, this is the episode for you. Listen now!

The median life expectancy for a man living in the United States is roughly 80 years. That works out to 960 months, 4,160 weeks, or about 29,000 days. Rick is sneaking up on 70 years old, which means, on average, he's got about 10 years – or 520 weeks – left. Putting the time we have left into simple numbers can be both a bit daunting and remarkably clarifying. When you're in the middle of them, the days can blur together. But the truth is that our time's limited, and how we use it is up to us. On today's episode of Being Well, Dr. Rick and Forrest Hanson talk about what's helped them come to terms with mortality, the reality of our limited time, and how we can use that knowledge to refine our focus and live a more fulfilling life.Watch the Episode: Prefer watching video? In 2007, Steve was diagnosed with renal cancer. Although this was a frightening time, it began a journey of discovery into topics such as wellness, nutrition, meditation, and personal development. Much of his belief regarding the importance of healthy lifestyles stems from his experience with cancer and subsequent self-education. The essential nature of this knowledge was then solidified by caring for an abundance of patients in the Emergency Department suffering from complications of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and cancer. Over the years, he began to realize that there was a positive side. He understood that many times these conditions could be prevented and often reversed. He has years of experience taking care of tens of thousands of patients, and it is his unshakeable belief that we should all be active participants in our health, doing the best we can to take care of the most valuable gift that has been given to us. He believes that we can be better. To this end, he has written two children's books that impart lessons of good health and his latest work: “My Steps Forward: An Inspirational Guide to Living a Better Life,” which is part memoir and part inspirational. In its pages, he shares many of his thoughts on health and wellness. Connect with Steve at https://stevepiriano.life/ Buy the book at https://www.amazon.com/dp/1734008016

"Many of us have been persuaded that happiness is something that someone else, a therapist or a politician, must confer on us. Stoicism rejects this notion. It teaches us that we are very much responsible for our happiness as well as our unhappiness. It also teaches us that it is only when we assume responsibility for our happiness that we will have a reasonable chance of gaining it. This, to be sure, is a message that many people, having been indoctrinated by therapists and politicians, don't want to hear." —William Irvine, A Guide to the Good LifeIn this episode, we dig deeper into the philosophy of Stoicism and work through some of the specific psychological techniques and exercises that will help you to adopt the Stoic viewpoint. We also try to connect the growing popularity of Stoicism to the rise of victimhood culture over the last twenty years. As we said in the previous episode, https://exploringkodawari.blog/podcast-episodes/what-is-stoicism-the-philosophy-of-life/ (Understanding Stoicism as a Philosophy of Life), much of Stoicism can be summed up by the psychological difference between viewing something as a blessing or as a curse. It's easy for us to fall into the traps of selfishness, especially with everything that's going on in the world right now. Why help others when you need to help yourself? However, there are people, who despite their situations, actively choose to be selfless. They go the extra mile to prioritize other people. These are the people who exhibit one of the greatest but most difficult powers to wield—the power of selflessness. In this episode, Richard Lui joins us to talk about his thoughts about selflessness. He also shares with us his experience of being his father's caregiver. With his years of journalism practice, he also mentions stories of people who exhibited selflessness and the beneficial effects of their actions in their communities. Listen to the episode you want to find out how the power of selflessness and how it can give us a better life. Here are three reasons why you should listen to the full episode: Learn how selfishness plays a role in making the pandemic worse for everyone. Discover how the media affects everyone's actions, pushing them to act upon their selfishness or selflessness. Understand how being selfish or selfless is connected to your identity. The Legend Series is back for Round 2. This time we're joined by health coach and running coach Dr Bernie Dancy. This episode gets quite personal as Bernie and @thepricep talk about their past experiences with stress and how that has led them to perceive and manage stress today. We're all looking to improve our training and physical health through our programming, but if our lifestyle, (and therefore our stress) isn't managed, we don't have the foundation to allow training to improve performance. In this episode we cover: - Our past experiences, particularly events which happened during our PhD study, which led stressful factors become too overwhelming - Stress and academia. How driven and ambitious people may be more susceptible to situations where stress become hard to manage. - How training is great for improving health, but it is still a stress that needs to be managed appropriately with all the other stressors. - What you can do if you feel it's all becoming too overwhelming If you feel like you could benefit from a health coach and want to learn more about stress management, check out Bernie's website: http://www.bernadettedancy.co.uk/ (www.bernadettedancy.co.uk) , follow her on Instagram (@bernadettedancy_healthcoach) and her brand new podcast 'Movement and Mind' https://www.bernadettedancy.co.uk/podcast (https://www.bernadettedancy.co.uk/podcast) As always, like, leave a comment and subscribe to our channel and follow us on Instagram @progress_theory_ and join the journey. #progresstheory Mentioned in this episode: The Progress Theory Hybrid Athlete Training Template Hey, it's Phil, I am quickly jumping on before the podcast to share with you an exciting announcement. Effect on Emotions Mindfulness helps me to stay with the poems. When I write a poem, I meditate. Every time that I work with a poem, I'm in a mindful state. In a class I was teaching, a woman told me she didn't have thirty minutes to exercise every day because she had two jobs. When I was driving home I was thinking how could a person not have thirty minutes in a day to create this micro progressive system so they could get better in life. So I came home, went to my meditation room for four hours and then wrote a poem. I went back to the class and read the poem and the poem was very moving to everyone. The women said that the poem moved her. (Jerzy shares the poem later in the episode). Thoughts on Breathing I created singularity of the brain within one repetition and there are six things that happen with one repetition. Inhale and then holding the breath, flexing the seven body parts, lifting, stretch, return, and exit. All six things repeat, and those six things create the mantra and that singularity and mindfulness that happens during this time creates thirteen minutes of exercise system when they exercise that way. They also feel like they meditate. So they are completely mindful during the thirty minutes. Suggested Resources Book: Strength in Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation by Bob Roth Book: The Happy Body: The Simple Science of Nutrition, Exercise, and Relaxation by Jerzy Gregorek App: n/aBullying Story I was one of the shorter boys and of course the communism was there too, and communism was tough. When you are thirteen, you sense what parents are going through. They were persecuted and they have problems so you feel it. When I was around thirteen I was bullied, badly. I had to walk to the school, not a long walk, maybe a quarter of a mile. During this walk I would be caught by boys to get money, and they would hold me upside down by the ankles and shake me to get money from me. There was constant bullying. Final Words of Advice I think that we need to focus on goodness, the goodness in every way and fight for it. The goodness is getting more flexible or stronger or more mindful. The goodness is be kind in the world. The goodness is to love people as they are and give them the science of what to do to get better. Goodness is to choose hard choices verses easy choices in life to create micro progressive systems. Goodness is an amazing thing because goodness also creates self-control and self-discipline, delayed gratification and it is a sign of virtues. I think the stoics were right that virtues are more important than almost anything that we do in life. Related Episodes 388 Total Heart Health With Renowned Physician-Scientist Dr. Robert H. Building Fortunes radio presents Peter Mingils and Ray Gebauer Success Principles for living a better Life Epic
If you are a regular YTP listener, then you've heard BJ tell the story of how he transitioned from his corporate job in 2016. He talks about finding the perfect company that allowed him to shift his profession into alignment with his values and beliefs. The company was Amrita Health Foods, and this was the timeframe when Arshad Bahl, founder of Amrita, came into our lives. It truly could not have been a better situation, although it became evident in just a few months that BJ's desire to become a triathlon and run coach was commanding that he go all-in. In turn, BJ left Amrita, but we all gained a friendship. Today we get to hear this story from Arshad's perspective and learn the beautiful story behind Amrita. Arshad had no plans of creating a plant-based nutrition product, but when he and his wife welcomed their son Ayan into the world in 2004, the pathway for Amrita was also born. Diagnosed with Autism when he was very young, Ayan suffered greatly from GI distress. Arshad and his wife set off on a mission to ease their son's dis-ease. They chose the long-term plan to change Ayon's diet while pursuing aggressive therapies to benefit their son as much as possible. It is a journey that allowed them to step into deeper levels of faith and trust as they experienced grave moments of fear and helplessness. Amrita is a brand that is doing its part to make the world a better place. With an aggressive give-back model and plans for future expansion, we don't expect that Amrita will be hiding in the shadows anytime soon. Arshad encourages us all to do what fills our heart and leave us feeling us purposeful. I believe his story asks us all to believe in ourselves enough to take risks so that we may experience the happiness transaction of business that he speaks of in this interview. We absolutely loved recording this conversation, and we hope you enjoy it. If it sparks a flame, we encourage you to fa Namaste - Jess
For as long as comedian Bianka Thompson can remember, alcohol was a constant in her life. But what was once a way to unwind and have a good time escalated to the point she was spending half her waking life drinking and the other half thinking about the next time she could get wasted. In Bianka’s mind, there was nothing wrong with her excessive alcohol consumption. She was young, fun, enjoying her life, everyone drinks, it’s the Australian thing to do, there was no harm in it. Or was there?Bianka’s wake up call came when she realised the severe affect it was having on her marriage, her health, and ultimately, her life. Now 10 months sober, and feeling happier and healthier than ever before, she’s made it her life mission to help open the eyes of other young Australian men and women, duped by the alcohol industry into believing we have to drink, and we have to drink hard, to have a good time.Bianka’s experience inspired her to co-host a miniseries as part of her podcast, We Want To Be Better about her relationship with alcohol, how it impacts every facet of our lives, along with interviews with experts in the field.Bianka is a delight - I hope you enjoy this chat. Here she is.Follow Bianka - @itsbiankabitchCheck out Bianka's podcast - We Want To Be BetterThis is the book that Bianka says changed her life - This Naked Mind by Annie GraceConnect with me @elizabethanileLemonade now has its own Instagram account chock-a-block full of self love inspo - follow here!Your support of Lemonade helps it grow and allows me to spend time finding awesome guests to share with you. My guest today is the always incredible Kristy Arnett.Kristy has been in the poker industry for the past 15 years, starting off working as a reporter for Card Player magazine and then PokerNews. Then, in 2014, she decided to take the leap and began to play cards professionally. For a lot of folks, this could have ended in absolute disaster … but Kristy is not a human being you want to bet against. She has the unique combination of other-worldly grittiness, humility, and confidence that pretty much guarantees success in whatever venture she chooses to take on.She has not only survived but has THRIVED on the green felt, battling primarily in the live cash game arenas in sunny California.Kristy sums up her aspirations in life through a T.S. Elliot quote, “Only those who risk going too far, can possibly know how far one can go.”But you can’t have a journey without a plan, a vision for what it will take to reach your destination and if you are lacking a vision, Kristy is about to walk you through that process. In our conversation, you’ll also learn:- Why Kristy decided to leave poker media and go pro.- How poker can be used as a tool to pursue what you love.- Kristy’s amazing wisdom if you want to become a professional poker player.- How you can use poker to become a better human being.- And so, so MUCH more!So without any further ado, I bring to you my conversation with future NYT bestselling author, Kristy Arnett.

Lynne Ernst has been an independent business owner since the mid 90's; working in the real estate, property management and insurance industries; it is tough out there for the small business owner. Overhead expenses like insurance, taxes, payroll, fuel and materials make it extremely challenging to maintain a comfortable cash flow. Lynne chose the company she is with for various reasons; superior cutting edge products, no inventory requirement, extremely minimal start up cost, global market at her fingertips with a universal platform used in each country, and phenomenal leadership who give freely of their time. The goal is not always just to sell but to build relationships; creating community to show support for each other.

Nadia draws a parallel between 3 events that brings her closer to understanding that we are all God’s children and regardless of how we are born, we are meant to be. The first event is when she met Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah at a networking event. He was born with a severely deformed right leg. In Ghana, it is common to kill children born with deformity because for centuries it has been seen as a shame for the family and often time people think the mother has sinned. These children are denied education and finish up crawling on the street. Against all odds, Emmanuel’s mom took a bold stance and refused to have him killed. Her husband left her to raise her handicapped son by herself. On Friday, Nadia met Cynthia, another beautiful soul who was born without ears. Their incidents put Nadia’s struggle into a different perspective making her realized that living a fulfilled life is a choice. If you have any questions, reach out to ask@nadiafleury.com

Episode 49: On today's episode of the podcast, I chat with my longtime friend who is a grit and resilience extraordinare. Blake Thiess is one of those individuals who has a light about them that's undeniable. I remember meeting him for the first time and was instantly drawn to his positive energy and zest for life. This interview is no different. You can feel his passion for serving the world and helping others land their dream job in this interview. Blake shares why building and maintaining resilience and grit are crucial components to your success in a career, a relationship, just about any aspect of your life. The beautiful part? It's simple yet so effective. So many times we get caught up on why we don't have something we want. This can result in jealousy that others have what we want and it leads us down a negative dark hole. Today, I'm happy to say that Blake will bring you the light and help inspire you to take a little more structured action on a daily basis to move you closer to whatever it is you want. I can't wait for you to hear this episode, so lets head over to the show!
