Alex Knight joins me again to share how his life has shifted since we last chatted on The Life Shift. We kick things off by revisiting the pivotal moments that shaped his relationship with music and how those experiences continue to influence his life decisions. Alex shares that music has been a constant anchor, helping him navigate expectations and societal pressures. Since our last episode, he's become more aware of how music plays a role in his happiness and creativity, emphasizing the importance of pursuing passions without the weight of external validation. This conversation is a powerful reminder of how sharing our stories can lead to unexpected insights and connections, making it easier to embrace the journey we're on.The Life Shift RewindI'm excited to share bonus episodes from Patreon, where I revisited past guests to discuss what has changed and the value of sharing their stories. Come join the new Wargames To Go (and Boardgames To Go) discord server https://discord.gg/vxEG9bMPdx One week ago I was at my first SDHistCon. I had a good time, would like to share that experience via this audio convention report...and still there manages to be a slender but worthwhile connection to my Wars of Scotland subject. For anyone who only found me for the convention report, I start with a brief overview of me & my podcast(s). Then I get into the convention itself, some of the great people I chatted with, and the remainder of the episode is a rundown of all the games I played. I'm covering them in roughly descending order of their wargame bona fides. So the first ones are the most traditionally wargame-y, followed by more & more titles that go from consims to general history games, ultimately finishing with a few light euro-style boardgames. The first game discussed happens to the one that connects to my current exploration on this podcast, the Wars of Scotland. Border Reivers is a game I could only experience at a convention, so I seized the opportunity. The next Wargames To Go podcast should have a lot more Scotland in it, some of those films I mentioned, and is expected to wrap up this topic. Then it will be time to look ahead to the next one. I've got some ideas. Thanks to the entire SDHist board that makes this event happen. Harold Buchanon may be the visible face of the organization, but I know he'd want to point out over a dozen board members, plus other advisors, that make it all work. Harold & I are getting a demo of Night Witches from designers Liz Davidson and David Thompson My new favorite Canadian, podcaster Grant Linneberg from Pushing Cardboard Another demo, this of Molly House. I'm there with Dan Thurot, Drew Wehrle, Alex Knight, Dan Bulloch, and Meeple Lady -Mark

The politics of the Spanish Civil War are complicated — which only makes it all the more impressive that Alex Knight's Land and Freedom distills them so elegantly into a three-player scrum for control of the Second Republic. Today, Alex joins us to discuss the genesis of his game, including how he solved the semi-cooperative problem with a silk bag, evolving the card-driven formula so popular in wargames, and the factional politics behind the gameplay.

To celebrate the end of season one, I compiled a collection of the final questions for each of the first 32 episodes of The Life Shift Podcast. I know that many listeners like to hear how the guest answers the final question.Typically the questions are:"If you could go back to the version of you right before your pivotal moment, what would you say?""If someone listening is in a similar position, what would you want to tell them?"What have you learned from this moment?"Thank you for being a part of this journey. Music Paved the Way for Everything Else | Episode 10: Alex KnightIn this episode, Alex and I talk about how his passion for music began and how, no matter how much he tried to choose other paths, music kept calling him back. She's back again! Author Elizabeth Goddard and I chatted about her last book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series (and a tiny bit about what is coming next) in this episode! We had a blast talking about writing, the complexities of research, and our favorite things about books. Listen in for more! Ready for another Can't-Put-it-Down Romantic Suspense Book? Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. We chatted about the first book in this series, Present Danger, back in Episode 64, and now... the final book in the series is here (almost)! Elizabeth Goddard first said she'd never write another book about cyber security, but now that she's had some distance from all the research (and the unsettling nature of that research), do you think she will stick to that? I sure hope not, because this book sounds AMAZING. Critical Alliance is set in the Montana Rocky Mountains, of course. Where else would it be in this series? Especially since Goddard admits to loving this area of the country. However, her next series is going to take us a bit north... to Alaska! Okay, now all I can hear is Johnny Horton's song. I'll be singing it all week. I blame Elizabeth. Releasing July 5, Critical Alliance is also available from the Baker Book House website at 40% off retail with FREE shipping. This makes the paperback LESS than the cost of the Kindle version (aside from tax, license, and extortion fees ;) ). Seriously, that's like 2000 book prices right there! And during a paper shortage, too! WOOT! ALSO, sometimes Baker Books send out their preorders EARLY. This means we can get it even before the release date sometimes! (I've gotten several recently. Just sayin'! Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goddard Rocky Mountain Courage Series #3 Mackenzie Hanson's special set of skills opened the door to a successful career as a professor of cybersecurity at a Michigan university, allowing her to put her criminal past behind her. But when a long-ago partner in crime delivers a cryptic message about her father's tech company being under cyberattack, she heads for Montana to secure exposed assets, close security breaches, and hopefully save lives. Diplomatic Security Services special agent Alex Knight is back home in Montana to decompress from a mission gone wrong. But even as he's trying to relax, he's drawn into another mystery, complete with suspicious deaths, lethal threats, and whispers of espionage that all have one thing in common--a beautiful cybersecurity expert with a dark past. When the situation turns deadly, Alex and Mackenzie will have to work together to find the answers they need--before someone silences Mackenzie for good. USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard weaves a tangled web of nail-biting suspense and heart-stopping romance in this fast-paced conclusion to her Rocky Mountain Courage series. Alex is more famously known online as AGK42. His unique style of photography attracted a strong following on Instagram. If you like Blade Runner and Stranger Things, you'll love rediscovering Tokyo through his camera. He recently launched a great campaign allocating all the profits coming from his online shop directly to help the animals impacted by the terrible fires that devastated Australia. Synopsis: This week on "Learn Me Something," Rich is missing in action, but Aaron and producer Alex Knight are here to talk about indoor biomes, an area that few biologists have studied. Few biologists have studied the evolutionary processes at work in indoor environments. Yet indoor environments comprise approximately 0.5% of ice-free land area – an area as large as the subtropical coniferous forest biome. Here we review the emerging subfield of ‘indoor biome’ studies. After defining the indoor biome and tracing its deep history, we discuss some of its evolutionary dimensions. We restrict our examples to the species found in human houses – a subset of the environments constituting the indoor biome – and offer preliminary hypotheses to advance the study of indoor evolution. Studies of the indoor biome are situated at the intersection of evolutionary ecology, anthropology, architecture, and human ecology and are well suited for citizen science projects, public outreach, and large-scale international collaborations. Distributed systems rule much of new technology today, as software programs exist across multiple computers, servers, phones, and smart devices. How can students learn to program these systems? Start with a visual programming environment, says Dr. Akos Ledeczi from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Ledeczi is an electrical and computer engineer who researches distributed systems and how to teach computer science. His research group created the NetsBlox block-based programming platform, based on SNAP and similar to Scratch, but it also has capabilities built-in for distributed or parallel programming. Ledeczi discusses the NetsBlox platform, their curriculum for teaching high schoolers, and their Roboscape project to link NetsBlox with robotics and cybersecurity education. This week show host Chris O'Regan talks to Alex Knight of Firebrand Games about their game Solar Flux. Few titles utilise the touch screen on the Nintendo Switch, yet it is more than capable of being used as an interactive tool for a variety of game as the iPad and Android tablets would attest to. Solar Flux was a game that was originally released in 2013 on those platforms and developer Firebrand Games decided that the Nintendo Switch would make an excellent platform for the game. Show host Chris O'Regan stumbled upon the title while browsing the eStore and after playing it for a while felt compelled to reach out to Firebrand Games to see if they would be willing to chat about its development and transfer to Nintendo Switch. Amazingly they agreed and this episode of The Sausage Factory is a result of that endeavour. http://media.blubrry.com/caneandrinse/caneandrinse.com/sausage/TSF_Episode213.mp3 The Sausage Factory 213 was edited by Chris O'Regan
Jeffry Roid is from New Mexico, and he has a LOT of pitches. Some would say he has too many pitches, not us. We say, he has just enough. Jeremy and Nikhil had lots to do on this tasty episode, but as always the question remains. Will they give it the green light, or will […]

Yesterday’s podcast guest was Alex Knight, one of Manhattan’s finest young wedding photographers. We had first met on an impossibly warm June night at a trendy venue in Brooklyn last spring for a beautiful bride and groom’s wedding (one of my all-time favorite couples) when we each worked that event and it wasn’t until just now that our schedules allowed us the opportunity — in November’s sudden frost — to get to know each other better. But, it was well worth the wait; recording his episode was a terrific experience. What made it even more special was that our conversation gave us the opportunity to explore together…his originality, refreshing new ideas, and breakthrough new vision. His “Love Stories” are beautiful lifestyle moments captured in time — and just one part of his expansive signature style. Most of all, it’s especially thrilling to share his bold, new perspective and spirit and this emerging new talent with my podcast audience. Listen and enjoy this unique episode and get to know this extraordinarily gifted artist as his momentum keeps building and Alex Knight becomes a major force in the industry.

Will bringt Cyrus um.
