I love when new information comes in to challenge my teachings or the current narrative in my mind and Yogi Aaron is just that kind of guy. Aaron has spent 30 plus years studying the ancient teachings of yoga as well as modern and scientific practices that promote pain-free living on all levels of self — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Through this journey, Aaron has developed a new philosophy of practicing yoga called Applied Yoga Anatomy Muscle Activation. This practice teaches us to stop stretching, because stretching may be causing more problems than it is helping. So how do we integrate this new information, as a teacher and as a practitioner? That's where the real journey happens. How can you take potentially contradictory knowledge to what you have been taught and practicing, to see how, or if, you can integrate it into your practice? In todays exchange, Aaron talks to us about why stretching is bad for you and how we can shift the paradigm of stretching in yoga to focus more on the activation of the agonist or contracting muscle, rather than the lengthening of the antagonist or muscle that is being lengthened. For decades, we have been conditioned to take stretching as a critical part of yoga. But what if stretching is the main culprit to our pain? Do you ever notice that even when we've stretched the pain out as we are often told, it always seems to come back. And stretching is often recommended as a way to relieve muscle and joint tension. However, it might not be doing your body the justice it needs. Stretching has been shown to increase the risk of injuries, specifically those involving the hip or lower back. Today we are debunking that myth and learning that all that stretching is actually hurting us! Episode 6 - “Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.”   As we discussed in previous episodes, stretching is actually hurting your body. By passively lengthening your muscles, you are breaking the connection the brain has to that muscle, disrupting the neuromuscular connection. When you think about it, stretching is the exact opposite of enhancing or improving muscle function.   In terms of yoga postures, there are three poses at the top of the list that you should never do. But there is one (probably your favorite one) that is literally ruining your body. Why? Because you are overstretching. And once again, overstretching can cause you serious problems in the long term.    In this episode of STOP Stretching! you will gain a deeper understanding of why stretching is not good for you, what happens if the muscle is overstretched, and what yoga postures you should avoid to keep your body healthy in the long term. Pranayama es una palabra sánscrita, Prana se puede traducir como energía vital, es la energía que esta presente en todo el universo. Es lo que genera vida, transformación, movimiento, y Ayama significa expansión. Podemos decir que pranayama es la ciencia o el arte que enseña un conjunto de técnicas para expandir la energía vital mediante el control de la respiración. Pranayama te da el potencial de experimentar tu propia sabiduría, tu propia luz interior. Sin respiración no hay yoga. En este episodio voy a compartir 3 ejercicios de Pranayama para activar energía y mantener el sistema inmunológico fuerte y sano: 1. Bhastrika: Esta práctica es excelente para limpiar y desintoxicar el cuerpo. Ayuda a liberar el estrés. Bhastrika fortalece el sistema cardiovascular, tonifica el sistema nervioso y crea calor en el cuerpo activando el tercer chakra, centro de inteligencia e intuición. Mejora el sistema intestinal y la digestión. Ayuda también con problemas de sinusitis y dolores de cabeza. 2. Agni Sar: este ejercicio aumenta la energía, disminuyendo ansiedad e intranquilidad en el cuerpo y la mente. Promueve vitalidad. 3. Kapal Bhati o respiración de fuego: esta es una práctica feroz. Es increíblemente desintoxicarte. Y también promueve una buena salud cerebral. Ayuda a disolver mucosa en los pulmones, mejora la elasticidad pulmonar y mejora la circulación. Respiración de fuego ayudar a disolver agotamiento mental y emociones con energías pesadas, destruye energía negativa. Esta técnica la puedes practicar a diario, preferiblemente en la mañana. Practicar con los intestinos y la vejiga vacíos ayuda mucho, así que la mejor hora para practicar pranayama es en la mañana temprano o espera por lo menos 4 horas después de comer para practicar. Y no olvides de relajarte en savasana, acuéstate por unos minutos después de tu practica. Que lo disfrutes! Podemos decir que pranayama es la ciencia o el arte que enseña un conjunto de técnicas para expandir la energía vital mediante el control de la respiración. Pranayama te da el potencial de experimentar tu propia sabiduría, tu propia luz interior. Sin respiración no hay yoga. En este episodio voy a compartir 3 ejercicios de Pranayama para calmar el sistema nervioso: 1. Kumbaka: ayuda a equilibrar la inhalación en la que captamos el prana del universo y la exhalación que rige los procesos de eliminación de toxinas y residuos del cuerpo. La practica de kumbaka calma la mente y el sistema nervioso, ayuda a que el proceso de envejecimiento de todos los sistemas del cuerpo vaya mas despacio, mejora la visión, y ayuda a limpiar las fosas nasales y el estrés emocional que se acumula en esta área. 2. Prakasha o respiración de luz: esta práctica tiene un efecto tranquilizante calmando energía agitada, ayuda a centrar y estabilizar el sistema nervioso, fortalece el aura, o centro electromagnético, alivia el estrés, frustración y rabia. Prakasha nos lleva a un estado de gozo. 3. Alom Vilom o respiración alterna: regula el hemisferio derecho e izquierdo del cerebro. Es una práctica que harmoniza, centra y ayuda a enraizarnos. Esta técnica la puedes practicar a diario, preferiblemente en la mañana. Practicar con los intestinos y la vejiga vacíos ayuda mucho, así que la mejor hora para practicar pranayama es en la mañana temprano o espera por lo menos 4 horas después de comer para practicar. Denn oft identifizierst du dich mit deinem Gemütszustand. Du lernst zwar in dieser Podcastserie, dich aus dieser Identifikation etwas zu lösen – manchmal ist das dennoch nicht so einfach. Es fällt manchmal leichter, dein Prana zu ändern. Und wie änderst du dein Prana, deinen Energiezustand? Dazu gibt es eine Reihe von Möglichkeiten. Die Wissenschaft, auf deine Energien Einfluss zu nehmen, nennt sich Kundalini Yoga, der Yoga der Energie. Der vielleicht wichtigste Teil des Kundalini Yoga ist Hatha Yoga, der Yoga der Körperarbeit. Im Hatha Yoga machst du Körperübungen, die direkt auf dein Energieniveau wirken. Im Hatha Yoga gibt es drei Hauptgruppen von Übungen: Asanas, Pranayama und Tiefenentspannung. In den letzten Podcasts hast du einiges gelernt über Asanas – und vielleicht hast du ja die Asanas regelmäßig praktiziert. Im Rahmen der Reihe Ayurveda für Gelassenheit innerhalb dieses Gelassenheits-Podcasts hast du ja schon eine Menge von Atemübungen ausprobieren können. Hier lernst du nochmals die wichtigsten Atemübungen kennen, welche eine gute Grundlage sind für den Alltag. Wie bei den Asanas lernst du in jeder Hörsendung ein Pranayama kennen und kannst dann ein paar Tage lang diese Atemübung praktizieren. Und am Ende bekommst du die Anleitung für eine ganze Pranayama Übungspraxis. Heute schon mal eine einfache Übung: Die tiefe Bauchatmung.
