In which the Mister and Monsters join me in reviewing WILD AT HEART (1990), from writer/director David Lynch, the film is based off Barry Gifford's novel "Wild at Heart: The Story of Sailor and Lula". Sailor (Nicolas Cage) and Lula (Laura Dern) flee across the American South while being hunted by agents sent by Lula's unhinged mother, Marietta (Diane Ladd). As their journey descends into a hallucinatory nightmare of violence, trauma, and twisted Americana, they struggle to hold onto their love in a world bent on tearing them apart. The film clocks in at 2 h and 5 m, is rated R and is currently available to buy/rent on Prime Video. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. This episode goes out to all the Moms out there - thank you for your service! After working on the short first season of TWIN PEAKS, David Lynch felt the pull back to feature length filmmaking when he was given a book called Wild At Heart by Barry Gifford. The book seemed ripe for a big screen adaptation and David Lynch immediately began work on it. Within a couple of months, he found himself in New Orleans with stars Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern, plus a host of regular Lynch collaborators. The production and release of WILD AT HEART was a whirlwind. The film went from the script stage to production in a matter of months, and within the year, the film was making its premire at the Cannes Film Festival, where it took home the festival's most prestigious prize, the Palm d'Or, a win that came with no small amount of controversy. In this episode of Cinema Shock — the season finale for our David Lynch: Absurd Encounters series — we will recount the story of how WILD AT HEART came to be, how it was conceived and produced, and how it was ultimately received by critics and audiences. While this is our final episode in our current series covering the career of David Lynch, our journey through Lynch's work is not over. In the coming weeks, we will be launching Fire Shock With Me, a TWIN PEAKS watch-along series where we will be working our way through Lynch's seminal TV series in its entirety. Those episodes will be available exclusively to our $5 and up subscribers on CinemaShock+, where you'll also find extended versions of all David Lynch episodes that include additional bonus segments. Join now at cinemashock.net/plus. At the conclusion of Fire Shock With Me, in early 2025, we'll be circling back to the films of David Lynch, covering the remainder of his filmography, beginning with TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME all the way through INLAND EMPIRE and TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN. It was only 2 years ago you got the role, what of your day-one plan has been achieved an then what's left on the "list"?What would you say Oni Press' mission is in comics, how do you define yourself from the pack? You currently have The CULT OF THE LAMB Kickstarter running and it's a huge success, do you foresee using Kickstarter more going forward? It was amazing seeing the response to the news you'll be printing NEW EC Comic, how long has this launch been in the works?I think it's fair to say David Lynch is a hugely impactful character on our culture, especially in pop culture today, and with BARRY GIFFORD's Night People getting an adaptation, I was curious why you zero'd in on this project for 2024?Something I think comics fans forget is the curation of a line is a ton of work, and with Oni Class of 2024 in high gear, can you talk a little bit about putting together these new ongoing series?JILL AND THE KILLERS #1—a razor-sharp teenage thriller from Olivia Cuartero-Briggs (Mary Shelley Monster Hunter) and Roberta Ingranata (Witchblade) in JanuaryCEMETERY KIDS DON'T DIE #1—a near-future descent into a virtual world with killer consequences from Zac Thompson (Hunt for the Skinwalker) and Daniel Irizarri (XINO) in FebruaryNIGHT PEOPLE #1—an uneasy odyssey into the provocative and surreal periphery of the American underworld from award-winning novelist and screenwriter Barry Gifford (Lost Highway, Wild at Heart) and writer Chris Condon (That Texas Blood) with artists Brian Level (Poison Ivy), Alexandre Tefenkgi (The Good Asian), Artyom Topilin (I Hate This Place), and more in MarchAKỌGUN, BRUTALIZER OF GODS #1—a fearlessly unrelenting reinvention of the barbarian mythos from creative powerhouses Murewa Ayodele (I Am Iron Man) and Dotun Akande (Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood) in AprilHow do projects move into Oni, I'm thinking specifically of Hobtown Mysteries and your upcoming Webtoon projects. We've also got HOBTOWN MYSTERIES vol. 1 getting a reprint in May with a new Vol. 3 in 2025, how did this project come to be given it was originally set up at Conundrum Press?Another comic set at another publisher, COVENANT, is a WEBTOOn comic with a print run coming in April. How did this project come to be at Oni?Following that is SUBZERO out in September, are you dabbling in manga possibly in the near future? If Oni Press under your direction was a song, what would it be and why?

Have you ever daydreamed about running your marketing off the rails and blazing your own trail? A trail that feels so true to your company yet so outside the bounds of what B2B marketing normally looks like? It probably feels way too risky. You'll think, “I'll alienate my audience.” OR you might find your true audience. Your ride or die audience. And wouldn't that be worth the risk? Today, we're looking at the 1990 movie Wild at Heart starring Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern; the movie our guest, Steve Mudd, said was “the first movie that I ever saw that was unlike every other movie I had ever seen.” It's a movie that has stuck with him ever since he first saw it that he returns to it again and again. Just like you want your customers to do with your brand. Steve is Founder & CEO of Talentless AI, and he's here to guide our exploration of marketing lessons taken from the cult classic. Together, we talk about how to use a simple storyline to be creative elsewhere, and how to create a campaign unlike any other. So buckle up for this wild and viscerally thrilling episode of Remarkable.About our guest, Steve MuddSteve Mudd is founder and CEO of Talentless AI, a next-gen creative agency focused on creating good content at scale. Talentless AI is bringing together best-of-breed capabilities in GenAI, synthetic media, and digital production to help brands be more human in the age of AI. Previously, he led content marketing and messaging strategy for the Public Cloud Services business unit at NetApp, where he delivered provocative content that told complicated stories in creative and authentic ways.Steve has a long history as an IT storyteller, working for Ogilvy on brands such as IBM, Lenovo, Level 3 Communications, and Iron Mountain. He was also the host of the popular Ogilvy Podcast. Prior to Ogilvy, he marketed wind energy for Xcel Energy, helped transform sales and marketing for Encyclopaedia Britannica, and was a tour guide for the Coors Brewery. He also wrote, directed, and produced the feature film, Seclusion, now available on VHS at your local Blockbuster. He holds a BA in English from the University of Wyoming.About Wild at HeartWild at Heart is a movie about a young couple, Sailor and Lula, who run away together after Lula's mom hires a hitman to kill Sailor. It stars Nicholas Cage as Sailor and Laura Dern as Lula. Sailor is a very romantic just-out-of-jail type that wears a snakeskin jacket and sweeps southern belle Lula away in his 1965 Thunderbird convertible. And they plan to run away to California, stopping at motels along the way. It was written and directed by David Lynch based on the book by Barry Gifford. When it came out in 1990, Wild at Heart was very controversial because of its sexual and violent content. The Guardian called it “a film of extreme violence and ugliness.” It was presented at the Cannes Film Festival where critic Dave Kehr said it was received with “the most violent chorus of boos and hisses to be heard in a decade.” Nevertheless, it became the controversial recipient of the esteemed Palme d'Or.What B2B Companies Can Learn From Wild at Heart: Create a campaign so wildly different from the rest. Which may take a bit of daring, but is actually not that hard to do, since B2B marketing tends to be serious, corporate and sterile. Instead, make it funny and playful. Draw inspiration from your favorite movie, TV show, B2C ad, whatever! Surprise your audience that they are, indeed, seeing a B2B campaign. It will stick with them. Steve says, “When we go to the movies, we have an expectation of what that movie's gonna be. When I see marketing, when I go on LinkedIn now, I have an expectation of what that's gonna be. But if I see something that's really, really different, I'm going to be attracted to that. My eyeballs are going to be drawn to that and I'm going to go to that.”Use a simple storyline. It's easier for your audience to get on board with and follow. Plus it allows your message to shine. Ian says that Wild at Heart doesn't have “the craziest plot. It's not the craziest storyline. But the characters and everything else are crazy. David Lynch fills in the entire tapestry with the most ridiculous characters you could ever possibly imagine.” So using a simple storyline, like how David Lynch uses a roadtrip, gets your audience hooked while allowing for flexibility to be creative elsewhere. Include familiar elements in an unusual campaign. They act as a tether for the viewer, so they'll still understand what you're marketing. It's like how David Lynch uses references to The Wizard of Oz as storytelling mechanisms. So viewers who are familiar with the story of Dorothy on the yellow brick road will draw parallels between what happens in Wild at Heart, and all the trials Sailor and Lula face on their way. Steve says that David Lynch combines “the incredibly familiar” with his storytelling so that the viewer is “open to the weirdness of the world.” So in your next wild campaign, remember to tether it back to your brand, your message, and your known characters.Quotes*”The story is still king, the characters are still king. And so the thing that you haven't seen before may not be this explosive visual or violent thing. But it's going to come down to the strength of the character and the voice in the content that you create.” - Steve Mudd*”If it just looks different, it'll stand out. It's something that someone has to stop scrolling and give three extra seconds to be like, ‘What is this? I don't know if I like it or not, but what is it?' There's literally hundreds and hundreds of people that have a story of walking out from watching Wild at Heart. And like, that's better than nothing. It's better than being forgotten.” - Ian FaisonTime Stamps[0:57] Meet Steve Mudd, Founder & CEO of Talentless AI[1:51] Why is Wild at Heart remarkable?[2:28] Learn more about Steve's career journey and storytelling[3:25] What's Wild at Heart about?[4:57] Why was Wild at Heart so controversial? Next, we talk about the incredible ensemble that brings Lynch's romance to life, praising especially the brilliance of its leads Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern as well as supporting performers like Diane Ladd (Laura Dern's real life mother, who netted an Oscar nod for her work in the film) and Willem Dafoe as one of Lynch's most memorable villains. Finally, we key into the political textures of Lynch's career-long preoccupations, and how he interrogates the parameters of society, forcing us to conceive of existences liberated from the confines of the quotidian.Follow Kayte Terry on Twitter.Listen and Subscribe to Kayte's podcasts, Fangs For The Memories and Tender Subject.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish
This week we are very excited to chat with video game designer Sam Barlow! He's a writer and game designer who worked on Silent Hill: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories before going the indie route and releasing the award-winning and absolutely stunning games Her Story, Telling Lies and his latest game, the BAFTA Games-winning Immortality. We discuss how he went about creating these nonlinear story-focused mystery games, his love of genre, the research he did into found footage films and academic texts on police work and so much more. We also talk about working with acclaimed screenwriters Allan Scott (Don't Look Now) and Barry Gifford (Lost Highway) on Immortality and how they go about creating those "a ha!" moments in his games. Then we dig into the very weird French Star Wars-esqe animated movie Time Masters, Les Maîtres du temps/The Masters of Time (1982). Faceless angels, existential dread, children in danger, duplicitous princes, giant hornets and psychic aliens...this movie has everything. And Sam's story of existential dread seeing this as a kid was amazing. Immortality is available on Windows, Xbox (and Gamepass), Android, iOS and MacOS. If you have a Netflix subscription, you can also play the game through them. It's highly recommended. You can follow Sam on Twitter. Bob, Cory, Philena and Greg are back for the first time this season! Yes. This is only S2 episode with all the OMFYS co-hosts. Greg hasn't been here since our season premiere, but Cory wasn't around for that one, and the Psychedelic Kaiju ep had no Franklins whatsoever. We did get a little chatty with the joyous reunion and all, and our movies this time gave us a lot of psychological baggage to unpack, so this ep is, um, expansive. However, Cory tells Bob that "people really like long podcasts," so have at enjoy the 88 minute binge. This week we explore criminal justice and murder with two f--d up movies from directors we should have covered a lot sooner. First, we have Orson Welles pulling off the mother of all crane shots in TOUCH OF EVIL, his ACAB masterpiece from 1958--a film so brilliant that even Charlton Heston in brown face can't ruin it. Welles is Hank Quinlin, a grotesque American cop in a sleazy border town who never found a piece of evidence he didn't manufacture. Heston is Vargas, an upstanding Mexican official who clashes with Quinlin when an American businessman is blown to bits by a car bomb that was planted on the Mexican side of the border. The movie is a technical marvel with a banger of a Latin jazz meets rock and roll score by Henry Mancini. And the cast is pretty amazing too, with Janet Leigh, Marlene Dietrich, Joseph Cotten, Akim Tamiroff, Joseph Calleia, and the Queen of Outer Space herself, Zsa Zsa Gabor. Cory gives it the stony seal of approval. Next, we come dangerously close to the 21st Century with David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY (1997). At the time Lynch and Barry Gifford wrote this film, they were both obsessed with the OJ Simpson murder trial and how dissociative fugue allowed The Juice to maintain his breezy demeanor despite his horrible crimes. Lynch takes his exploration of murder, guilt and fugue states to an appropriately absurd level here as Bill Pullman plays a jazz saxophonist who murders his wife, goes to jail, and wakes up as an auto mechanic played by Balthazar Getty. Making things even creepier is the casting of Robert Blake as the movie's "Mystery Man," a few years before he was the defendant in a sensational murder trial of his own. Also starring Patricia Arquette and Robert Loggia in dual roles plus Natasha Gregson Wagner (Natalie Wood's daughter), Gary Busey, Richard Pryor (his last film role), and Marilyn Manson as a porn actor to make things even more problematic. This week, Drusilla and Josh discuss David Lynch's criminally underappreciated Lost Highway. From wiki: "Lost Highway is a 1997 neo-noir film directed by David Lynch and co-written by Lynch and Barry Gifford. It stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Blake. The film follows a musician (Pullman) who begins receiving mysterious VHS tapes of him and his wife (Arquette) in their home, and who is suddenly convicted of murder, after which he inexplicably disappears and is replaced by a young mechanic (Getty) leading a different life."Next week's movie is Messiah of Evil. Split Picks is back with two of David Lynch's most diametrically opposed films:Wild At Heart (1990) and Lost Highway (1997). What links these films together is author Barry Gifford, who wrote the source novel for Wild at Heart and co-wrote the Lost Highway screenplay with Lynch. Cinesthesia's Jim Hickcox steps in to host the show and brings along... his Cinesthesia co-host Jason Michelitch. They're joined by special guest Rob Christopher, whose film Roy's World: Barry Gifford's Chicago (2020) is screening at Portland, Oregon's Hollywood Theatre on Saturday, July 9. Together they parse through Lynchian dream logic, Gifford's childhood in Chicago, and where Gifford's influence shows throughout later Lynch masterworks like Mulholland Drive (2001). Ian talks with director Rob Christopher, whose new documentary Roy's World: Barry Gifford's Chicago will have its Windy City premiere this Saturday at the Chicago Critics Film Festival!Roy's World follows the early life of writer Barry Gifford, whose prose and poetry have been influential for decades, inspiring films such as Wild At Heart and Lost Highway (in collaboration with David Lynch). Gifford spent his formative years in Chicago, and through montage, pristine vintage footage, and animation, Christopher paints vivid pictures of how the "tough" city forged a bold, literary heart.Rob Christopher talks about the film's unconventional genesis; his collaboration with friend/colleague/Chicago indie-film magnate Michael Glover Smith; how he landed a trio of brilliant narrators in Lili Taylor, Willem Dafoe, and Matt Dillon; and what Gifford's work means to him, personally. You'll also learn more about Saturday's very special screening, which will be a full-blown event within the Chicago Critics Film Festival!Show Links:Watch the Roy's World: Barry Gifford's Chicago trailer.Purchase tickets to the Chicago Critics Film Festival.Subscribe to, like, and comment on the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel!
This week we pay homage to cult Spanish filmmaker 'Alex de la Iglesia. When Perdita meets up with Romeo, it's not long until they find themselves why over their heads with the DEA hot on their trail, a pair of tourists to be sacrificed, a trailer full of frozen fetuses (or foetuses if you are British), and their employer looking to clean up loose ends. Based on Barry Gifford's third book in the Sailor and Lula series. Who leads Perdita Durango in her dance with the devil? An America student at Oxford wants a notorious professor to advise on his thesis. In order to make that happen, he takes up residence at the home of an old friend of the professor's, begins dating a former fling of the professor's, stalks his lectures, and before either knows it they are dragged into a a murder mystery that might be taunting the professor. In between killings there's a lot of talk about concepts that no one involved with the movie understands while standing around in fairly dull English sitting rooms. Who will be the next victim of The Oxford Murders? Javier is a sad clown. He works with happy clown Sergio, who is also a violent sociopath one drunk night away from murdering his girlfriend, Natalia. Hard violence, black humor, sharp social satire and a sad trumpet ballad play out The Last Circus. The antichrist is coming and Angel, a Basque priest, is going to do as much evil as he can in his attempt to thwart it. Joined by a heavy metal loving record store clerk and an occult TV host, Angel will try to stop The Day of the Beast in anyway he can. All that and Tyler suffers, Kevin demands hunky boys, and Dave flees a psycho cop. Join us, won't you?Episode 207- Mark of Iglesia
In this episode, Marisa and Aric examine the legacy of Neo-Noir through six films that both represented and reinvented the genre. They also discuss the genre's conventions and how they evolved from the Film Noir movement of the mid-20th century. On the list is Walter Hill's THE DRIVER (1978), the ultra-cool car chase thriller that has inspired numerous getaway driver films after it, John Dahl's THE LAST SEDUCTION (1994), a sinister straight-to-tv film that made waves with Linda Fiorentino's tour de force performance, David Lynch's LOST HIGHWAY (1997), the nightmarish noir not for the faint of heart, Carl Franklin's DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS (1995), a tale of the underworld of 1940's Los Angeles, Stephen Frear's THE GRIFTERS (1990), the Martin Scorsese produced film about a group of con artists that leaves the viewer questioning just who really is conning who, and NEW JACK CITY (1991), a noir that follows the rise and fall of drug lords during the crack epidemic in 1980's New York City. Please consider supporting this show through our Patreon!Keep up with us on Instagram and Twitter: @filmchatterpod.Check out the films mentioned in this episode on our Letterboxd. Thanks for tuning in!Powered and distributed by Simplecast
CAGE UNCAGED CAGE MATCH: WILD AT HEART & 8MM "The Difficult Follow-Up". Andrew Kevin Walker wrote the textbook for cool, edgy nihilists (teenaged and otherwise) with 1995's SE7EN, directed by pod fave, overexposing messiah David Fincher. For fans, Walker's spiritual and numerical follow-up, 1999's 8MM was something of an event! Nicolas Cage as a PI hunting down the origins of a bonafide snuff film? Sign us up with a gallon of hand sanitizer and five needed showers with NIN blaring afterwards! Then the studio and director, Joel Schumacher, as fascicle as ever, got involved making significant changes and, 21 years later, Walker hates this movie and wants it remade. Walker was paid 1.75 million (dollars!) for the script and that didn't make things a wee bit better? Can Cage elevate the uneven material like he has so many times before (and after)?David Lynch was a cult figure in the 80s, given carte blanche by producer Dino De Laurentiis after the infamous Dune (1984) debacle. Lynch made 1986's Blue Velvet as a result, one of the greatest films of the decade and one that found him fully in control of his own distinct style. Then Twin Peaks exploded in 1990 and his weirdness reached full zeitgeist in the mainstream for a few months. So his film follow-up to Blue Velvet, 1990's Wild at Heart, based on Barry Gifford's slender novel of the same name, with Nicolas Cage as leading man along with Laura Dern on a sexy, crazy road trip? The anticipation (amongst fans of a certain age) was unbearable! Then it came out and fans (of a certain age) were all "Huh? What's with the Wizard of Oz stuff?" How does it look thirty years later? Is Cage the greatest actor Lynch has ever worked with? One of the legendary directing stylists ever paired with our favorite actor! Then what makes this so difficult a follow-up? Listen and find out. Maybe it isn't!Explore the breadth of Cage in the 1990's as he goes from cult icon coveted by great directors in 1990 to full-fledged Oscar winning leading man by 1999 coveted by bland corporate studios for blander blockbusters. He has also researched, written and produced over 100 hours of documentary television, focusing on true crime and the paranormal. Joe is a member of the International Horror Writers Association. Lost Highway is a 1997 neo-noir film directed by David Lynch and co-written by Lynch and Barry Gifford. It stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Balthazar Getty, and Robert Blake. The film follows a musician (Pullman) who begins receiving mysterious VHS tapes of him and his wife (Arquette) in their home, and who is suddenly convicted of murder, after which he inexplicably disappears and is replaced by a young mechanic (Getty) leading a different life. Lost Highway was financed by the French production company Ciby 2000 and was largely shot in Los Angeles, where Lynch collaborated with frequent producer Mary Sweeney and cinematographer Peter Deming. Lynch has described the film as a "psychogenic fugue" rather than a conventionally logical story, while the film's surreal narrative structure has been likened to a Möbius strip. The film's soundtrack, which was produced by Trent Reznor, features an original score by Angelo Badalamenti and Barry Adamson, as well as contributions from artists including David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails and The Smashing Pumpkins. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/speakeasy-noircast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/speakeasy-noircast/support

Bart Jackson's Podcast - Get informed, Get entertained, and seize the wisdom
Archeologist Chris Macort unearths & traces the riches of wild successful pirate prince Captain Sam Bellamy. Who’s got the treasure now? Who really gets rich from pirates’ loot? Come aboard and trace the revenue stream originally and ill-gottenly gained by pirate Captain Sam Bellamy who profitably plundered scores of ships throughout the Caribbean at the dawn of the 18th Century. Host Bart Jackson brings on underwater field archeologist Christopher Macort who leads an ongoing expedition sifting the sunken remains of Bellamy’s ship, The Whydah, which sank in a storm right off Cape Cod (the home of his lady love) in 1717. Bellamy, the Bill Gates of pirates, had parceled out 50-pound gold and silver sacks as shares for each of his 145-man crew. Macort tells how the pirates fared, how the ensuing treasure hunters made out, and what he and expedition founder Barry Gifford are bringing up from the depths. Want to know how pirates lived & died, how archeologists actually unearth these riches, and where you may now view some of this astounding wealth?
Barry Gifford är författare till böcker som Wild at heart, Night people, Baby cat face och Jacks book. Han har även skrivit manus till David Lynch Lost highway och Hotel room.
"For a millennium, the space for the hotel room existed undefined. Mankind captured it, gave it shape and passed through. And sometimes in passing through, they found themselves brushing up against the secret names of truth." Thus we enter the world of David Lynch's Hotel Room, a series that jumps between times but remains always behind the door of Room 603 of the Railroad Hotel in New York City. Lynch's first foray into the then-fledgling world of cable television is fascinating and strange, pushing the boundaries of the medium in its exploration of love, loss, and possibly even more... Still Night in L.A. (Three Rooms Press)Michael Shepard, a detective with his own set of problems, is hired one morning by a fashionable young woman at her Hollywood apartment. Soon he’s embroiled in a murder investigation that may shed light on a nearly forgotten tragedy. A divorced father wondering how to set his son on a better course in life, the detective gets into deepening trouble as he negotiates a vivid panorama of the town’s modern-day beautiful and damned. Author Aram Saroyan harnesses the hardboiled styles of Chandler, Hammett, and Ross MacDonald into a contemporary tale of information age intrigue. The text is supplemented with cell phone photos taken by Saroyan in the same environs in which the story unfolds.Praise for Still Night in L.A.“Aram Saroyan nurses the accelerator in a deceptively laconic way, channeling the faultless ratiocination of Charles Willeford (Miami Blues) and Paul Cain (Seven Slayers). Still Night in L.A. keeps still until, at just the right moment, he floors it.”--Barry Gifford, author, Wild at Heart“Readers of California-dream-correction fiction may have their particular favourites -- Day of the Locust, The Slide Area, I Should Have Stayed Home, My Face for the World To See, The Long Goodbye. Aram Saroyan’s Still Night in L.A. brings long experience and practiced narrative craft to earn his place in this line.”--Tom Clark, author, The Exile of Celine“Still Night in L.A. is a novel where the magic is all in the language, in the evocation of the detective’s incongruously sweet and gentle personality, and in his astoundingly accurate takes on a world where kids have a hard time growing up before they hit middle age, and where the hard thing is not to become a movie star but to get someone to remember your name.”--Gerald Nicosia, author, Home to War: The Untold Story of the Vietnam Veterans Movement“Still Night in L.A. moves mysteriously through the late American day and ends up inscrutably in the lost hour of the early morning. In between, crazy humans reign supreme. Aram Saroyan’s prose is as elegant as emeralds and ice.”--G. A. Hausman, author, The Mythology of Horses“Aram Saroyan’s Still Night in L.A. cruises the mean streets and trendy brunch boites of Los Angeles, this city of angels and psychopaths. His shamus Michael Shepard is a Marlowe for our digital times.”--Richard Setlowe, author, The Haunting of Suzanna Blackwell"A writer who looks deeply into himself and his own experience, confronts what he finds there with real courage and reports what he has experienced with a measure of candor that is both breathtaking and, at moments, heartbreaking."--Jonathan Kirsch, Los Angeles TimesAram Saroyan is the author of the true crime Literary Guild selection Rancho Mirage, as well as many other books of prose and poetry. His Complete Minimal Poems received the 2008 William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. He is featured in the documentary film One Quick Move or I’m Gone: Jack Kerouac at Big Sur and his comments appear in the oral biographies George Being George: George Plimpton’s Life and Salinger. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, painter Gailyn Saroyan.
