Ceri welcomes Emma Richardson, a polymath creative who seamlessly navigates music and visual art. Currently the bassist and vocalist for Pixies while maintaining her painting career, Emma talks about creative courage and change. She shares her experience with Band of Skulls, her pivot towards painting during lockdown and her unexpected invitation to join one of rock's most influential bands. Emma's story shows the power of following your creative instincts, even when the path forward isn't clear. KEY TAKEAWAYS Emma credits her early art teacher Mr. Malin for introducing her to diverse art forms and her tutor Clunie Reid for providing philosophical reading that expanded her artistic vision. The music industry and art world require different approaches but similar courage. Emma describes how transitioning from an established band to pursuing painting full time meant "being back to square one" but allowed her to reconnect with her original passion. The creative states of music and visual art have distinctly different energies. While performing music provides an immediate collective energy exchange with audiences, painting offers a private, contemplative flow state where Emma can explore deeper themes and take different kinds of creative risks. Performance involves a specific kind of energy management. Emma evolved from using alcohol to manage performance anxiety to developing much better self care including exercise and proper sleep, to be in the right headspace and have the right energy. Finding your creative community transforms solo practice. After reconnecting with painting through the Turps correspondence course and Ceri Hand Rocket Booster course, Emma discovered an essential group of fellow artists who provided both inspiration and practical support for her renewed career direction. Emma learned that passion alone isn't enough, understanding promotion, sales, and professional relationships is essential for building a sustainable creative career in any discipline. Saying "yes" to unexpected opportunities can lead to extraordinary growth. When invited to join Pixies, Emma embraced the challenge of learning their extensive catalogue and stepping into a legendary band, demonstrating how preparation meets opportunity in creative careers. BEST MOMENTS "Being given a book at school with Georgia O'Keeffe's work just really resonated with me, there was a feeling about her work that I got, which I loved." "At college, just learning different skill sets of drawing from life, drawing from still life... the thrill of that, being able to draw from life and make something appear out of nowhere, which looked actually real." "Being on tour is quite an intense experience. Early days, everything's new, you're seeing new countries and cities for the first time. There's usually quite a lot of alcohol involved for nerves. You have this sort of come up and then come down." "With painting, it's very much still a performance but because it's solo and you're on your own in a space and no one's watching you, you can get lost a bit easier and feel a flow in a sense." "When you're starting a different aspect of your creative practice, where you feel like you're at a different stage, it's those early stages of 'How do I promote myself? How do I sustain my practice? How do I sell work? How do I get shows?'" "It's being brave enough to go out and ask for help sometimes, or ask for knowledge, or to be able to understand the business side of the art world a bit more. You want to create, but earning and living from it is another beast." "I think from what you were saying earlier, that sort of delight when the gallerist invited you to be in the show. There's a shared commitment to sharing the work with a wider public, that that's something that you desire." "Sometimes to wait for great, we have to say goodbye to good. It can be tough to walk away from people, projects, or careers we love in order to explore what's truly possible for us." Ceri talks with Lisa Cooley, a former New York gallerist turned art advisor. Lisa shares how she went from being an accidental gallery worker to running her own acclaimed Lower East Side gallery for nine years. With remarkable honesty, she discusses the challenges of managing a gallery through a recession, the toll on mental and physical health, and the complexities of artist-dealer relationships. Now working as an art advisor and launching a new podcast called Oko, Lisa gives her experiences and thoughts on relationship building, collecting, and navigating the art world's unspoken rules. KEY TAKEAWAYS Throughout her career, Lisa discovered that running a gallery wasn't just about selling art; it required building genuine human connections that couldn't be scaled or rushed, even as the art world grew increasingly commercial. Lisa developed a unique approach to evaluating artwork, insisting on both an intellectual response and visceral visual pleasure, refusing to compromise on either aspect when choosing artists to represent. After closing her gallery, Lisa learned that being honest about failures and challenges - though often discouraged in the art world - ultimately led to deeper, more meaningful professional relationships. Through difficult experiences with artists, Lisa came to understand that gallery-artist relationships work best when treated as business partnerships, allowing for clearer boundaries and communication. Lisa's experience running her gallery during the 2008 recession taught her that sometimes working harder isn't the answer. When Lisa's health began suffering from overwork, she made the difficult but necessary decision to close her gallery, learning that physical and mental wellbeing must take precedence over art world pressures. As an art advisor, Lisa discovered that building collector relationships requires a 4-6 month period that's less about art education and more about understanding how people communicate and make decisions. Lisa found that small, thoughtful gestures, from handwritten notes to carefully chosen chocolates, often proved more effective in building lasting business relationships than grand gestures or aggressive sales tactics. BEST MOMENTS "Being candid is highly, highly punished, and I think it's only now with a lot of distance where I really feel comfortable trying to share as much as possible." "The gallerist-artist relationship is not a marriage. It is not family. It is a business relationship... A marriage is very different. It's reciprocal. And gallery-artist relationships are frequently not reciprocal." "Sometimes galleries just aren't that supportive..." "You can scale everything in the art world... but you can't scale the human relationships. That's impossible to scale." Ceri brings together three artists who transformed the Green Man Festival into a magical artistic playground. Lexi Zelda Stevens, Megan Broadmeadow, and Angela Davies share their experiences of creating ambitious installations in challenging outdoor environments. From holographic fans in the woods to midnight performances on rafts, they reveal the intricate dance of artistic vision, technical expertise, and weather management. The trio and Ceri give practical advice and inspiration about producing large scale public art and talk about the importance of building strong support teams. KEY TAKEAWAYS Lexi believes the key to successful festival art programming is having meticulous contingency plans while giving artists complete creative freedom to lead their vision Megan discovered that having triple the expected technical support proved crucial when personal emergencies arose during installation of her holographic installation Transforming her gallery work for an outdoor festival context opened up new possibilities for Angela's performance and audience engagement. Producing festival art requires creating a calm, supportive environment amid chaos, focusing on safety while letting artists maintain creative control. Festival audiences interact with art differently than gallery visitors - some prefer to simply observe, while others want to understand the technical details. Angela realised that staging work next to water created unexpected opportunities for reflection, both literally and metaphorically, in her practice. Lexi's experience showed her that the best commissioned work comes from trusting artists who haven't worked outdoors before rather than playing it safe. Through her midnight performance, Angela discovered that festivals can create intimate, quiet moments of connection even within a busy event environment. BEST MOMENTS "Being a producer is kind of like saying sorry and thank you a lot. And maybe I hear you as well in there." "Don't work alone. You're going to need some friends. You're going to need support. Use people's expertise." "I was laying on this body of water where the film was projecting kind of beyond me... it was quite magical." "Creating imagery that transcends the festival... and forgetting that you're even at a festival, that was really powerful." "Just dream big" "Don't try and make the art. My role is very clear in that I'm leading on safety and passing over audience experience." "The opportunity to make something potentially super large scale that sat next to this body of water, this pond, on the estate... it was really incredible." Self-Leadership and Responsibility: Taking 100% responsibility for one's life and decisions is crucial. Individuals often fall into a victim mindset, blaming others for their circumstances instead of recognizing their own power to change. Awareness of Thoughts: Becoming aware of "should" statements and self-judgment is the first step toward personal growth. By questioning these thoughts without judgment, individuals can begin to understand their true desires and motivations. BEST MOMENTS "Being a woman in midlife means I know of a fair few women in midlife... there's a kind of sense of more sense of identity that comes up." "A lot of it is very quite simply, it starts off with they say, I feel like I've lost my confidence." "When you first start to notice those thoughts, you're going to be alarmed by the frequency with which they come up." "Stop trying to fix yourself and start living. Just start living." In this episode, Dr. Dunni explores the myth of perfection, particularly in the context of motherhood. She emphasizes that striving for perfection is unrealistic and encourages listeners to define their version of "perfect" by accepting reasonable and unreasonable flaws. Dr. Dunni shares personal anecdotes and practical strategies for self-improvement, such as dedicating just 10 minutes a day to personal growth activities like journaling or walking. KEY TAKEAWAYS Striving for perfection is unrealistic and often leads to unnecessary guilt and self-criticism. It's important to redefine what "perfect" means personally, acknowledging that flaws are a natural part of life. Instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on your growth. Set realistic goals and compare your progress to your past self rather than others, as everyone has a unique journey. Begin your self-development journey with small, manageable steps. Dedicate just 10 minutes daily to activities that enhance your physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual well-being, such as journaling or walking. Incorporate your children into your self-development activities. This not only sets a positive example for them but also creates a supportive environment where both you and your children can learn and grow together. Learn to say no to avoid overcommitting yourself. Establishing boundaries is essential for maintaining your well-being and ensuring that you have the time and energy to focus on your personal growth. BEST MOMENTS "Being perfect is truly a myth... we need to create expectations that are realistic for ourselves and for those around us." "Perfect is... Please Expect Reasonable and unreasonable Flaws, Especially as I Continue Trying." "Your journey of self-development is like a marathon. It's not a sprint." "When you say no to something or to someone, you are saying yes to you." "You need a supportive community... people who would say, hey, I've got you, I see you, I hear you." In today's episode, Dr. Dunni delves into the importance of reconnecting with our inner child and embracing playfulness as adults. She shares a personal story of overcoming her fear of riding a bicycle, highlighting the transformative power of changing perspectives, interpreting emotions positively, and enjoying the journey rather than solely focusing on the destination. Drawing on experiences from childhood and adulthood, she emphasizes the value of approaching challenges as fun obstacle courses and savouring the present moment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Embrace your inner child and allow yourself to play and be vulnerable, innovative, and creative. Change the way you view challenges by seeing them as fun obstacle courses or adventures. Interpret your emotions in a self-serving way to boost your confidence and overcome fears. Enjoy the journey and be present in the moment, not just focused on the end goal. Challenge yourself to experience new tasks or goals, even if you feel you cannot do it, and enjoy the process. BEST MOMENTS "Being able to play. Being able to connect with your inner child is one of the most useful practices that we can have as human beings." "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." Europe. Giorgia shares her fascinating insights on leadership in times of uncertainty, the importance of adaptability, and fostering a culture of trust and inclusivity. With her extensive experience leading global teams, Giorgia offers valuable advice for current and aspiring leaders looking to navigate the challenges of the modern business landscape. KEY TAKEAWAYS Effective leadership in times of uncertainty requires anticipating change, reading market signals, and being mentally prepared for surprises while maintaining a clear vision and purpose. Fostering a culture of trust, empathy, and authenticity is crucial for attracting and retaining top talent in today's competitive market. Consistently achieving small goals and celebrating successes helps build resilience and momentum towards a long-term vision. Embracing diversity of thought and actively listening to different perspectives leads to better decision-making and understanding in multicultural teams. Encouraging people to step out of their comfort zone and supporting them through challenges can lead to extraordinary growth and performance. Senior leaders must challenge their unconscious biases and promote this practice throughout their organisation to create a fair and respectful work environment. The energy transition and digital transformation are reshaping the job market, requiring leaders to embrace new skills and adapt their business models accordingly. Empowering and trusting teams, even when facing uncertainty, can lead to outstanding results and a willingness to go the extra mile. BEST MOMENTS "Being a senior leader in a global or in a big organisation requires the ability to anticipate, the ability to read the signals of the market from multiple angles and multiple dimensions." "If you force yourself, and then after a while, it becomes like an addiction, I'm really curious. And so I ask myself a lot of questions, and then I read, but also I ask opinion to people, and I really listen." "People, any people, including already CEOs, they need to think about themselves and their organisation as in transition, and now more than ever." "When I'm able to trigger in people an extra, the willingness to go the extra mile, the willingness to really apply themselves to a level that they don't even know themselves they are capable of, and when I'm able to do that, I'm super proud." "All of us have unconscious bias. [...] Senior leaders again have an important role to equip leaders, middle management, to make sure that they protect themselves from unconscious bias because it can really [hurt] people." ABOUT THE GUEST Giorgia Arnaboldi is Vice President of Shell Energy Europe, the division within Shell Group that is focused on developing and growing fully integrated lower carbon energy offerings to help customers and Shell to decarbonise and meet their net-zero emissions targets. Jeannette discusses the concept of "balcony time" for leaders, emphasising the importance of stepping back from day-to-day operations to gain a strategic perspective. Drawing an analogy between being on the dance floor and standing on the balcony, she discusses the need for leaders to balance involvement in daily tasks with strategic thinking. KEY TAKEAWAYS Leaders need to proactively create balcony time to step back from day-to-day operations and gain a strategic perspective. Technical vs. Adaptive Challenges: It's crucial for leaders to distinguish between technical challenges with known solutions and adaptive challenges that require more radical changes. Leaders should understand where their team members, stakeholders, and customers are to effectively address challenges and opportunities. Leaders need to interpret the underlying messages and emotions behind what is being communicated to make informed decisions. BEST MOMENTS "Being a leader is about making those difficult decisions, about seeing the bigger picture." "You need to be constantly adjusting, on the dance floor dealing with day-to-day challenges, but also on the balcony observing from a macro perspective." "You have to proactively create balcony time in your diary to have that deep thinking time, to have that observation, so that you're not always in the weeds." "You need to be able to distinguish between a technical challenge and an adaptive challenge." In episode four of The Airbnb Superhost, Neil Harvey delves into the significance of being a Superhost on Airbnb. He explains the criteria for achieving Superhost status, the benefits that come with it, and the impact it has on booking rates and revenue. Neil emphasizes the importance of exceptional customer service and maintaining high standards to qualify as a Superhost. He also introduces the concept of the new Guest Favorite Badge, which further enhances a listing's appeal to potential guests. Through sharing his own experiences and insights, Neil offers valuable tips and secrets to help hosts not only become Superhosts but also strive for the coveted Guest Favorite status. KEY TAKEAWAYS Becoming an Airbnb Superhost comes with numerous benefits, including increased visibility, trustworthiness, and potential for higher occupancy rates and daily revenue. To qualify as a Superhost, hosts must meet specific criteria set by Airbnb, such as hosting a minimum number of trips, maintaining high response rates, low cancellation rates, and receiving positive reviews. Airbnb has introduced a new feature called Guest Favorite Badge, which evaluates individual listings based on guest ratings and is updated daily, providing potential guests with real-time information on the property. The key to success as a Superhost lies in providing exceptional customer service, as service is remembered long after the price is forgotten, ultimately leading to higher guest satisfaction and more bookings. Superhost status rates hosts based on their response rates, cancellations, booking frequency, property management, and guest happiness, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards to attract guests. BEST MOMENTS "Being a Superhost comes with a lot of upside and real-time perks. Superhost, a hero, yes, perceived to be more trustworthy and reliable because of the strict criteria that you've got to adhere to on a consistent basis in order to qualify." "Superhost status rates you as a host. It's about your response rate, your cancellations, the frequency of bookings you're attracting and how you manage your property and ultimately the happiness of your guests." "Superhost secret number four is: The service is remembered long after the price is forgotten." "If you want to pay all your bills and enjoy a host of new thrills, at the end of the day, the size of your pay will be set by your people skills." ABOUT THE HOST Neil has led a fulfilled and unconventional life, navigating an extraordinary journey from the Royal Navy to prop-making in London's West End theatres. This week it's Rush Dorsett who's keeping Alexa company. Rush is a voice coach, performing artist, and founder of the Embodied Voice Academy. She has earned accolades in voice science, psychology, and sound healing. Rush is passionate about weaving together spiritual tools with vocal awakening practices to access a singer's highest potential. She is here to discuss the benefits of sound healing for singers and busy teachers like us. KEY TAKEAWAYS YogaVoice® is a unique 21st century synthesis of the eight-limbs of Classical Yoga technology and Systematic Vocal Technique (SVT). The application of these principles to the lives and work of both professional and amateur singers can facilitate self-awareness and artistic empowerment. Rush has found that when teaching she often finds some kind of energetic imbalance in the students' sound. When this happens she tries not to focus on the classic techniques as that would just be paving over the cracks. This is when she turns to her alignment techniques to get to the root cause of the imbalance. The mission of Embodied Voice is to serve conscious creatives who are seeking to connect with their true voice, go deeper in their vocal practice, find ease in singing, embody powerful presence, and have the tools they need to create their own sustainable vocal practice. The seven major chakras Rush teaches are: 1) Root - stability, grounding; 2) Sacral - creativity, emotions; 3) Solar Plexus - personal power; 4) Heart - love, compassion; 5) Throat - communication; 6) Third Eye - intuition; 7) Crown - spiritual connection. Each corresponds to different aspects of well-being. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being a part of a community really built my confidence' ‘I was seeing the results of this energetic and physical body alignment helping and supporting the anatomical alignment for healthy vocal technique' ‘When we are connected to our root chakra, our physical body aligns' ‘Authenticity often requires deconditioning ourselves' EPISODE RESOURCES Guest Website: https://rushdorsett.com Social Media: Instagram: @rushdorsett Rush's FREEBIE - Discover your Vocal-Chakra Alignment Relevant Links & Mentions: The Yoga Voice Method from Mark Moliterno: https://theyogavoice.com/ (Book) The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron (Book) There's No Place Like Ohm by Donna Carey and Marjorie de Muynck (Podcast) Quantum Minds TV by Dr Theresa Bullard-Whyke: https://theresabullard.com/qmtv-episodes/ Contact Rush directly: rush@rushdorsett.com BAST Book A Call ABOUT THE GUEST Rush Dorsett is a Voice Coach and Performing Artist who supports creatives in awakening their authentic voice, embodying their power, and freeing their self-expression in singing, speaking, and performing. Simon shares valuable insights on how to achieve more in your property journey and make the upcoming year your most successful one yet. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Benjamin Hardy's book, "10X is Easier Than 2X," Simon emphasises the importance of focusing on the 20% of activities that yield the most results, rather than trying to do more and becoming overwhelmed. He also highlights the significance of building a network, seeking help from others, and attending property training and networking events to expand knowledge and resources. KEY TAKEAWAYS Focus on the 20%: Instead of trying to do more and becoming busier, focus on the 20% of activities that add the most value and contribute to your success. Cut out the 80% of tasks that are not important or necessary. Recognise that you don't have to do everything on your own. Get other people, whether it's family members, paid team members, or virtual assistants, to help you. This allows you to work smarter and achieve more without burning out. Shift your mindset to consider the value you will gain. This applies to investing in your own development, attending paid training, and outsourcing tasks. Look at the long-term benefits rather than just the immediate costs. Don't limit yourself: Don't let your own resources, such as time, money, knowledge, or experience, limit your potential. Network and connect with others who have the resources you lack. BEST MOMENTS "Being busy is not necessarily a sign of success, and doing more isn't what you need to do." "You need to realise that 80% of what you're doing right now is probably not that important." "The problem is that when most people start a business, they don't have much money and they're very conscious about what they spend money on." "You never know how the people you meet might be able to help you in the future and how you can help them." In this episode, Joel and Andy explain why Shopify + online advertising is a massive opportunity, right now. Leveraging ads in the right way enables you to scale a store at an amazing rate. This is an opportunity you can't ignore! Joel and Andy explain how to shortcut the learning curve and cash in on Shopify. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is no longer difficult to find your ideal niche and identify offers that really resonate without spending a lot. AI is a game changer for testing, targeting, optimising and more. Most existing stores are not optimising well. Remarketing is key, yet many firms don't do it. Meta and Google ads are underpriced. Do your research or outsource it. Cross sell. What else does the buyer need? As a second-mover you can learn from the mistakes, and successful campaigns of others. Set goals based on the right KPIs, then expand those campaigns you know for sure are delivering positive results. Once you have a lead nurture it. Doing that costs you nothing. Bear in mind that attention spans are short. Don't look and sell the same way everyone else does. Think about who you put your products in front of, some people will pay more. BEST MOMENTS‘Being a second mover gives you an advantage because you can learn from the mistakes others have already made. ´ ‘There are thousands of businesses out there that just don't go near marketing.' ‘There's no point in being in the middle….you can charge a premium.' Angela presents a biohack edition featuring Eliza Kingsford from episode 261, exploring the profound impact of our nervous system on our thoughts, emotions, and actions, emphasising the importance of being in a regulated state to access a flow state and enhance creativity. Eliza explains that carrying a disregulated nervous system into a task or activity can hinder productivity and lead to distractions like food, scrolling, or checking email. By recognising and understanding our own nervous system states, such as safety and connection, fight or flight, and shutdown, we can better navigate our reactions and behaviours. TAKEAWAYS Our nervous system plays a crucial role in our thoughts, feelings, actions, and creativity. Being in a flow state requires a regulated nervous system. If we carry a disregulated nervous system into a flow state, it will hinder our productivity and creativity. Disregulation can lead to engaging in shallow tasks or seeking distractions. Recognising and being aware of our nervous system is essential. It drives our behaviour and how we interact with others. Different cues can activate different states in our nervous system. Mapping out the flavours of our nervous system can help us understand our own unique states. This involves describing what makes us feel safe and connected, as well as what activates our fight or flight response or leads to shutdown. BEST MOMENTS "Being in a flow state requires a state of nervous system regulation." "If you carry a disregulated nervous system into that state, it's not going to be productive." "No one is immune to this. We all have a nervous system and all of them are picking up on cues all day long." "It's just getting to know what's the state of your system, right? On this episode of the Scouting For Growth podcast, Sabine VdL talks to Benjamin Friedman who, over a 20+ year career has navigated the perilous waters of startup finance and operations, riding the bumpy waves of startup growth and guiding his companies through successful M&A transactions, equity raises, and debt financing. To cap it all, Benjamin is a firm advocate for values such as collaboration, optimism, and open communication, and has consistently strived to connect company goals, team initiatives, and individual performance in his roles. KEY TAKEAWAYS At graduate school I'd studied nonprofit management and worked at a nonprofit for a few years and found it was very process driven, we kept talking about what to do but never actually trying things. I'm much more results oriented, so I moved into an e-commerce company which doubled every year and it was an amazing ride. I became addicted to the startup journey. A lot of startups have a unique journey, every founder is an individual, but there are some common themes. Successful startups have founders that are clear on who they are and what they're trying to accomplish. That might seem easy, but it's actually very hard work to regularly check in with yourself. The other application is around vision and values; those will remain constant even as the business pivots, evolves, changes and challenges occurring. The final piece is feedback loops, successful founders are constantly seeking advice from advisors, investors, other founders and their team, they're constantly seeking feedback – they may not act on it every time – new ideas and how to get things done. Align outcomes, results and activities. A lot of people get worked up by working really hard and spending a lot of time and effort but activity alone won't generate the outcomes that you're looking for, you have to see what results are coming from that activity and then you have to see if those are affecting the outcomes that you desire. Are you looking at it through industry metrics, internal metrics? You need to be constantly running experiments to see if ‘x' improves your quality, your efficiency for you or your customers. You have to constantly evaluate your process but aligning your activity results and outcomes is really critical. Bringing in fractional experts can do a number of things; they can help you look holistically across the business and make connections between different functions, how do sales, marketing, finance and product all connect and what are the ways to optimise them collaboratively to grow your business. How have things been done in the past and how can they be applied to your business in order to grow as fast as possible? Cost and risk are considerations as well, by looking at fractional resources you're mitigating both; you pay people who come in much less than someone doing the job full-time, especially if you don't know how they're going to work and how they'll fit with your team. BEST MOMENTS‘Being open to other people's opinions is going to make you stronger on your journey.'‘It's very important to balance strategy and implementation.'‘We often think about productivity as running fast, but if you're not sure of what direction you want to be running, it doesn't matter how fast you're going, you're going to be heading in the wrong direction.'‘Unsuccessful founders keep doing the same thing their customer needs, successful ones ask “what is it you need now?” and they'll provide that.' How do you actually succeed? How do we create a process in ourselves to allow us to grow and connect with our desires? Nicole is joined on this landmark 100th episode by success coach Charlotte Pridmore who helps entrepreneurial women through positive human design, the combination of human design and positive intelligence. Together they will be discussing how understanding human design can help you in your business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Human Design is a system that combines astrology, the I Ching, the Kabbalah, the chakra system, and quantum physics to understand an individual's unique energetic makeup and life purpose. It provides insights into personality traits, strengths, and ways of functioning in the world. Using birth data, Human Design generates a body graph that guides decision-making, relationships, and personal growth. In Human Design, there are several different types, each representing a unique energetic blueprint and approach to life. The five main types are: Manifestor: They have a powerful, initiating energy and are here to bring ideas and innovations into the world. Generator: They have a sustainable and abundant life force energy.Projector: They have a focused and penetrating energy, able to deeply understand and guide others. Reflector: They have a highly sensitive and reflective energy. Reflectors are rare, and their role is to mirror the health and well-being of the community they are in.Manifesting Generator: They combine the qualities of Manifestors and Generators. Manifesting Generators have a fast and creative energy, often juggling multiple projects and interests. They are designed to respond to life's opportunities while also initiating action. BEST MOMENTS‘Being inwardly successful allows it to outwardly manifest' ‘My intuition kept pulling me back to it' ‘It's a took to help you understand yourself more and how you work from an energetic perspective'‘I won't push something now, it has to feel good to me' ‘Manifesting generators are like the jet skis, generators are the steamboat' EPISODE RESOURCESCharlotte PridmoreOne To One - Charlotte PridmoreCHARLOTTE Success Mentor (@charlotte_pridmore) • Instagram photos and videos ABOUT THE HOSTBuying & retail expert Nicole Higgins spent the last 18 years sourcing & developing products from all over the world, building strategies for blue chip businesses, and increasing bottom line sales and profit, adding over £40 million in incremental business to the bottom line. In this episode, David sits down to speak with Kevin Whelan who's the founder of Wealth Builders, and the founder and co-host of the Wealthtalk podcast. Both of which exist to teach people a step-by-step process that anyone can follow, to build their wealth and become what these guys call financially independent. Kevin shares why his father´s early death led to him working out how an ordinary person can build long-term wealth. Then explains why simply exchanging your time for money (working) will not create financial independence and why everyone needs to build the right kind of assets. Something everyone can do regardless of their current financial situation. KEY TAKEAWAYS Kevin teaches people how to have the funds not to have to work regardless of the state of the economy. Money is not complicated; it is basic math. When you trade your time to build something, you can own it, which means you can manage it and pass it on. Nobody can take better care of your money than you. There are seven assets that are highly effective for creating true financial independence. and multiple ways to build them. Kevin explains and provides examples in the podcast. Eventually investing all seven assets will insulate you from economic upheavals and downturns. Look at what you know and how you know it, you can share that knowledge to create an income stream. There are many, many ways to collaborate with others to create income and build assets. You will have skills that they don´t and vice versa. Keeping wealth in the family and passing it on to the next generation needs to be planned for. Don´t be afraid. The way to mitigate the risk is to learn how things work. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being financially independent gives you more choices. Not just for yourself, but for the next generation,' ‘Don't trade time for money, build assets instead.' ‘How do you live a life of certainty, when the money you have is fundamentally uncertain?' ‘The risk of no action is bigger than the risk of taking a small action.' In this episode, we chat with Tim Foden who is a partner at Boies Schiller Flexner, the global disputes law firm who are internationally recognized and known for its creative, aggressive, and efficient pursuit of success for its clients. Tim is a dual-qualified English-US lawyer andspecialises in international arbitration in the mining sector. He has acted for both the world's largest mining companies and a host of junior mining companies. Tim talks about disputes that happen within the industry and provides some valuable advice about how to act when faced with them. Sometimes you need a lawyer when you're in trouble, but you have to engage with them before you are fully in need of their services. Doing so enables you to strategize how best to navigate disputes to get the best outcome over the long term. KEY TAKEAWAYS Miners get a bad rap, so often end up being treated badly, especially junior miners. There are two main types of disputes that Tim handles – commercial and claims against sovereign states. Disputes with sovereign states include a failure to protect the mining site from unrest. If you are investing in a country, first check that your country has a treaty in place with that country. Using holding companies is an effective way to better utilise treaties. Ask the hard questions. Think about what could go wrong, what your rights would be and how to strengthen them. Be very careful about what you say in public and to governments. As soon as things start to go wrong consult a lawyer. They will help you to put together a strategic response to secure the best possible outcome. Resource nationalism is a powerful force that underpins many disputes. Treaties make it hard for states to cease assets off of companies because they are foreigners. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being a lawyer is being a perpetual student, you are always having to learn new industries. ´ ‘It is not just risky jurisdictions that you need to be wary of.' ‘They should watch what they say to the government and recognise that there´s going to be diminishing returns when interacting with the government.' Paul is joined for the third time out of five by returning guest Lisa Jayne, an Australian educator, mentor, speaker and writer to talk about the part of her book on emotion education, which Lisa feels is lacking from our cultural education. Emotional education is an understanding of how our emotional worlds work in the way of feelings. KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the things my book talks about is that we are own most important advisor. It's all about self-allegiance and listening to ourselves first. Most people understand the word “triggered” and the understanding is there's something in us that is reacting to certain events externally. What I've discovered is that emotion that I would feel and not want to own, and I'd quickly go into my head to try and fix the solution, all that emotion that I didn't allow t move through my body, process, that I held on to, denied, resisted got stuck in my body. This will then be stored and will come out later. If I can't let go of something I try to look at why I can't let it go, what's in the way? The more you look at it, inwardly, you start to see the emotions that we've held on to get in the way of what we see and our perception of each other. If I'm reacting to something that someone's said, is that me feeling not good enough, or I should do this better? Am I feeling abandoned or unsupported? When I look in that right place, I can actually do something about the situation. Firstly I can empower myself emotionally so the next action I take isn't reaction but movement from my powerful place. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being a human being is having an experience of life which is a feeling thing, not a thinking thing.' ‘I've had the beautiful opportunity of sitting with incredible pain and watching the waves move through my body.' ‘We all have stored emotion and it gets in the way of us being able to connect with each other.' ‘Judgement is a substitute for experience. When I'm judging someone else, I'm not in the present moment and separated from them.' To date, she has won 10 business and entrepreneurial awards and runs two successful businesses. She shares her journey and details of some of the challenges she has faced along the way. In particular, Rob asks her about those that relate to her being so young and a woman working in a male-dominated industry. Sign Up For MSOPI Here: https://bit.ly/msopi-nomad KEY TAKEAWAYS Home staging is now a high-demand service. Property owners now understand that it adds thousands to a property's value. There is an element of luck involved in business success, but it only works because you take the leap. Sharing your story, your journey, is powerful. It catches people´s attention and drives your brand. When you harness the power of the media; you can do a lot of good and achieve a lot. Aligning yourself with successful people inspires you. Mentorship is key to propelling yourself forward. Being yourself and recognizing your abilities automatically leads to you being noticed and respected. One of women's biggest fears is being judged by other women. You can use people telling you that you cannot do something to spur you on. It is important to recognize that you can´t do everything and outsource things. If you try to do everything yourself, you will slow your rate of growth. Focus on what you are good at. Interviewing people for a podcast is a great way to continually get inspiration. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being able to identify it as being the right thing to do and then being able to take the leap is essential.' ‘So, when you actually start to harness the power of the media, you can use it in such good ways to help people as well.' ‘I´ve always tried to align myself with really successful people.' ‘The more action you are taking the more successful you become.' Rob is joined by Marc Champ who is a property finance broker. He provides an insight into the way lenders look at things when deciding who to lend to and how much they lend. They discuss how to hire the right professionals and build a strong relationship with them. So that it is easy to keep the lines of communication open between them and you, which improves the chances of being improved and getting a fast decision. Marc and Rob also talk about the right way to realistically value your property and prepare any loan application to greatly improve your chance of success. Sign Up For MSOPI Here: https://bit.ly/msopi-nomad KEY TAKEAWAYS When you buy a property as an investment you need the right team of professionals behind you. An accountant, solicitor, and a broker to handle the financing. When you know your team well and they know each other the lines of communication are strong, which prevents issues and speeds things up. The relationships you have with these professionals will be long-term. Especially if you are working on a development project. Each type of lending organization will ask different questions. If you are planning to borrow you need to get your personal and business finances in order. Keep an eye on your credit score and quickly sort out any issues. Take your credit score details with you when you speak to a broker, it makes a good impression. Reduce delays by anticipating possible questions lenders may have. Then provide your broker with the information they need to answer them. Do your research and come up with a realistic valuation, over-egging the valuation is not helpful. Think about where the price is going to go in the long-term as well as the short-term. Do your due diligence and be realistic about the state of the market and where it may go in the future. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being able to translate lender speak into solicitor speak into customer speak is something that is really important.' ‘Do your research early, make sure you've got your facts and figures on hand and that you know what lenders are going to ask in advance.' ‘Don't over-egg what you think the value is going to be.' In this very personal episode, Rob opens up about his unofficial autism diagnosis and how potentially knowing that he may be on the spectrum for autism has helped bring clarity and understanding to something he had a feeling about before. He reflects on why it's so important not to keep your concerns and worries to yourself – there is power and change in talking to someone even if it is a massive challenge. Rob shares how this unofficial diagnosis explains why his skill set is centred around writing and analysis and why he prefers to only have a focused line of communication with others, rather than a widespread social media presence. Something that the majority of people experience is having a job and it's imposed upon you when you finish when you can do things and when you can't do things. Many people share the same dream of being their own boss and not having anyone tell them what they have to do. But when it comes to actually 'starting' their own business they tend to find them stuck in a day, which leads to missing the structure of having a full time job. In this episode Rob explains how you can overcome this. KEY TAKEAWAYS Something that the majority of people experience is having a job and it's imposed upon you when you finish, when you can do things and when you can't do things. Many people share the same dream of being their own boss and not having anyone tell them what they have to do. Having a clear, structures and compartmental diary will help you overcome the common question of “how do you manage to get so much done?”. Everyone's individual so to believe that the theory of having less sleep to get more done isn't correct. It's about finding what works for you best. Test out different times to find what times you're most productive and alter your diary to suit that. Robs book Routine = Results walks you through how you can do this and also helps you get the basics right, such as exercising, eating right and getting enough sleep, before anything else. Put your income generating and high earning tasks in the time zones where you've got the most energy so you can be the most productive and get the highest quality work done. Don't stop focusing on your key life areas such as date nights with your partner, seeing your kids or doing a hobby. Just book in that time to do these things in your diary because it's important not to get obsessed with your business.
