The document, a “February 2024 Board Memo” prepared for board members of the American Clean Power Association, is striking in how specific and aggressive it is in detailing plans for its members to push Republican lawmakers to oppose any GOP effort to repeal all or parts of Biden's inaptly named Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The IRA, which passed during Biden's second year as president, did not lower inflation but did aggressively expand government spending, including perhaps most controversially on the left's radical green energy agenda. The American Clean Power Association, or ACP, is a trade association made up of companies supportive of or benefitting from the left's green energy push. On its website, the organization describes itself as a “leading voice of more than 800 companies from across the clean power sector that are committed to meeting America's national security, economic and climate goals with fast-growing, low-cost, and reliable domestic power.” This 66-page document obtained by Breitbart News is marked on nearly every page as “ACP Confidential Information.” Source: breitbart.com The CBO Revised The Cost Of Biden's Energy Policies Up By $466 Billion The cost estimate of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act coupled with EPA mandates, just jumped by $466 billion. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and the latest Congressional Budget Office outlook conclude IRA Energy Provisions Cost Could Double With New Emissions Rule At the time of passage, CBO and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) estimated the IRA's energy and climate spending and tax breaks would cost about $400 billion through Fiscal Year (FY) 2031 and would be more than fully offset by other parts of the law. Since then, the combination of higher inflation, greater demand for credits, and looser-than-expected regulations significantly boosted the cost of those credits. Last June, we estimated the cost of the IRA energy provisions had grown by two-thirds, to $660 billion through 2031. Assuming the new vehicle emissions rule proposed by the EPA is finalized, we now estimate the cost of the provisions will more than double to $870 billion through 2031, or $1.
[SEGMENT 2-1] Shock and Awe 5 – Library closure Leftism and the library closing [X] SB – Library closing Too dangerous to operate. How to continue to operate? Closed until further notice. Internet or other resources. Questions from the mayor. No one in the city, including the police chief A library spokesperson told KTVU that crimes, theft and vandalism against employees and patrons were just the tip of the iceberg. "We've also had drug activity and drug use both inside the library and on library property," said Brooke Converse, a spokeswoman for the Contra Costa County Library System. "People having sexual intercourse inside the library or on property in full view of patrons and staff. We found bullet casings on library property." Antioch's Mayor Lamar Hernandez-Thorpe criticized the move, saying the city was blindsided by the decision. "No one in the City of Antioch, including the police chief, was informed of safety concerns by Contra Costa County regarding the library," he said in a statement. Library officials, however, say the branch is owned and operated by the county, so county supervisors were notified. Cop shortage https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/governor-jeff-landry-declares-state-344110 Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency due to the severe shortage of police officers across the state. Landry's executive order issued Thursday lifts limits on how many new employees Louisiana sheriffs can hire and on payroll increases for their departments. The Louisiana Sheriff's Association estimates that sheriffs' offices statewide are currently short by approximately 1,800 deputies, leading to challenges in maintaining adequate staffing levels and increasing response times to emergency calls. In light of the statistics, Governor Landry issued the executive order to address the pressing need for additional law enforcement personnel. [SEGMENT 2-2] Shock and Awe 6 – Restaurant robbed How many times would you have to be robbed before you closed? https://mynorthwest.com/3950668/rantz-seattle-restaurant-owner-lost-all-faith-in-city-after-23rd-break-in/ A popular Seattle restaurant suffered it's 23rd break-in since the defund movement three years ago that created the city's crime crisis. And the would-be burglar didn't even end up stealing anything. The Seattle restauranteur asked not to be named fearing activists would target him for speaking out. The last time he tried to bring attention to the crime crisis, he said he suffered an avalanche of negative Yelp reviews. But when you say you've been burglarized 23 times in just three years, it's hard to stay silent, even in Seattle. “I have lost all faith in the city of Seattle, SPD, Council members, and state elected officials,” he explained to the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. Now the coverup. On March 1, 2018, after Americore wired a $200,000 loan to James and Sara Biden's personal bank account, James Biden sent a payment of the same amount to Joe Biden for an alleged loan repayment. No matter how the media tries to spin this, the money was Joe Biden's payment for services to be rendered. As you consider what Fox did to pressure the Biden, understand how that judge ultimately kicked Hunter Biden's sweetheart deal off the table and into public scrutiny. Joe Biden will deny having any knowledge of this, save the "loan repayment". That's because the modis operandi for Joe Biden is to deny having any knowledge of his family's business dealings. But that won't help him. Someone higher than he let the dogs out. This story about Americore is not new. So why is Politico regurgitating what's already been digested? Only months ago, we learned of the "loan repayments" via canceled checks, so again why now? Because Joe Biden is done. [SEGMENT 2-3] Shock and Awe 7 - Ezra Klein There is a pattern occurring. I get a kick out of every time somebody says that Biden needs to step aside, they do the same thing. Have you spotted it? Why can't they just dump the guy without reservation? Erza Klein, a columnist and podcast host for The New York Times, called on Joe Biden to end his White House bid. Nothing new with that. But what he says next is what always makes me chuckle. “I want to say this clearly: I like Biden. I think he's been a good president. I think he is a good president. I don't like having this conversation,” Klein said Friday in an episode of his podcast, “The Ezra Klein Show.”. The man actually repeated, [pp] "I think he's a good president". Why don't I believe him? Perhaps it's that he said "I don't like having this conversation". This very difficult conversation. [SEGMENT 2-4] Shock and Awe 8 – Ezra Klein [X] SB – WH press pool on Biden taking a cognitive test A year ago? Proves himself every day. But it gets more difficult as his next comments suggests. Klein continues, “And I know a lot of liberals, a lot of Democrats are going to be furious at me for this show.” “I think Biden, as painful as this is, should find his way to stepping down as a hero,” he added later. Ouch. That had to be tough to admit. And clearly I see why now Klein prefaced his remarks about how much he loves Biden. Klein goes on to state the obvious: “The people whom Biden listens to — Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, Mike Donilon, Ron Klain, Nancy Pelosi, Anita Dunn — they need to get him to see this,” he continued. “Biden may come to see it himself.” Now are you really ready for a hearty laugh? Klein wants people to believe that the old fart stuck in the 1960s can be a "bridge". Klein said the Democratic Party should want to help Biden to be “the bridge of the next generation,” making reference to what the president called himself during his 2020 campaign. “The party should help him find his way to that, to being the thing he said he would be in 2020, the bridge to the next generation of Democrats,” Klein continued. “And then I think Democrats should meet in August at the convention to do what political parties have done at conventions so many times before, organize victory.” This is as close as Democrats get to stating the obvious. Klein echoes most of the members of his party as eh worries about the damage Biden is doing to Democrats. How long can this party blatantly lie, and attempt to prop up the pathological lying clown? Democrats pretend to laud Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, which did exactly as predicted: opposite. Democrats know this. Biden's handling of, well, everything has panicked the Democrats. His age has always been and continues to be a major question. And that fact was exacerbated by the special counsel report. It's almost as if Democrats were waiting for the special counsel to give them permission criticize the obvious about Biden. But now that the permission has been granted, he piling on has begun. Joe Biden may very well be “a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory”. But he's about to be exposed definitively as an old-brain damaged crook. How difficult must it have been for the Trump-hating Ezra Klein to pen that message. No amount of platitudes for "a job well done" by Biden can erase the underlying message of Klein. Sadly for Democrats, Klein speaks for millions of others. Ask yourself this. Given what you've witnessed of Biden's decline, would you fill in the oval in support of Joe Biden for another 4 years? I know if Trump were Biden, he would not get my vote. Democrats know that the biggest person encouraging voter suppression is Joe Biden. As he said of his candidacy, "Watch me".

On this day in history August 29, 1957, the Civil Rights Act of 1957 was passed by congress – the first piece of federal legislation aimed at civil rights since reconstruction.Prompted by the Supreme Court's landmark 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, which ignited public debate on school desegregation, the act aimed to address the widespread disenfranchisement of African Americans in the Southern United States. President Dwight D. Eisenhower initially proposed the bill to bolster federal protection for African American voting rights, a pressing issue given that only about 20% of black people were registered to vote by 1957.However, the act faced considerable opposition in Congress, particularly from Southern Democrats who were engaged in a campaign of "massive resistance" against desegregation and civil rights reforms. Amendments like the Anderson–Aiken and O'Mahoney jury trial amendments were successful in diluting the act's potency. Senator Strom Thurmond notably conducted the longest one-person filibuster in Senate history in an attempt to block the legislation.Despite these setbacks, the act did pass, albeit in a watered-down form orchestrated by Senate Majority Leader Lyndon B. Johnson. While the act had a limited immediate impact on African American voter participation due to the removal of stringent voting protection clauses, it laid important groundwork for future civil rights legislation. It established the United States Commission on Civil Rights and the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, both of which would play crucial roles in the enforcement of civil rights laws. The act also set the stage for more robust civil rights legislation in the 1960s, including the Civil Rights Act of 1960, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the Civil Rights Act of 1968. These later acts would build upon the foundation laid by the 1957 act, offering more comprehensive protections against discrimination and disenfranchisement. Overall, the Civil Rights Act of 1957 was a pivotal, if imperfect, step in the long journey toward civil rights and equality in America. The Biden administration has targeted 10 prescription drugs for price negotiations under Medicare, aiming to cut their costs by half on average by 2026. This move is part of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law a year ago to address the high cost of medicines in the U.S. Among the drugs targeted are Eliquis, a blood thinner by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer, and AstraZeneca's Farxiga, which treats diabetes and heart failure. These drugs alone accounted for significant spending, with Eliquis costing Medicare $16 billion in the year through May 2023.Previously, the U.S. government was prohibited from negotiating drug prices due to a 2003 law that created Medicare's Part D program. However, the Inflation Reduction Act has mandated these negotiations. The drugs selected for this round of negotiations account for nearly $51 billion, or about 20% of Part D's prescription drug costs. Around 9 million people on Medicare took these drugs and paid $3.4 billion out-of-pocket last year.Pharmaceutical companies have criticized the move, arguing that it threatens innovation and intellectual property rights. Johnson & Johnson, which has two drugs on the list, stated that the policies put an "artificial deadline on innovation." The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) also warned that giving the government the power to set prices could have "significant negative consequences."The drug industry is currently suing to block these negotiations, and companies like Merck, Bristol, J&J, and AstraZeneca have each filed lawsuits. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is also seeking an injunction to halt the negotiations. Analysts project a manageable impact on industry revenue, estimating as much as a 5% hit. However, the government expects that the price negotiations will save Medicare $100 billion through 2031.Bristol, Lilly Blockbusters Targeted for Medicare Price Cuts (1)US names first 10 drugs for Medicare price negotiation | ReutersU.S. states are increasingly focusing on "opportunity transparency" to address pay gaps, requiring companies to be more transparent about promotion opportunities. Illinois and Colorado have enacted laws that will take effect in 2025 and next year, respectively, mandating employers to disclose information about promotions. New Jersey also has pending legislation on this issue. These efforts build on pay disclosure laws initiated in Colorado in 2021 and later adopted by states like Washington, New York, California, and Hawaii. These laws primarily aim to address pay disparities affecting women and people of color. The new rules are designed to counter the "shoulder tap" practice, where employees are quietly selected for promotions, often without the knowledge of their co-workers. This lack of transparency disproportionately affects women and minorities. A 2022 study by McKinsey & Co. and LeanIn found that for every 100 men promoted from entry-level to manager positions, only 87 women and 82 women of color are promoted. This contributes to men holding nearly two-thirds of managerial roles despite making up only half of the workforce.Colorado's law imposes fines of up to $10,000 per violation and mandates changes in business practices. It requires companies to notify all employees of job openings and promotions in writing, giving them sufficient time to apply. Amendments to the law will further require businesses to notify employees about all job openings, not just promotions. The Illinois law, effective in 2025, will require companies to announce all potential promotions to their current employees within 14 days of posting a position externally. It will also require the disclosure of salary ranges and a summary of benefits in job ads. These laws aim to have a "cascading impact" on pay equity, complementing other policy efforts like banning employers from asking about applicants' prior salary history.States Put New Spin on Pay Gap Laws With Promotion TransparencyThe American Bar Association (ABA) is forming a new task force to explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the legal profession. This move comes as law firms increasingly experiment with AI tools like ChatGPT, while also confronting ethical and practical challenges posed by the technology. The ABA Task Force on Law and Artificial Intelligence will be chaired by Lucy Thomson, a lawyer and cybersecurity engineer based in Washington, D.C. The group will include seven special advisors, such as former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and former U.S. Solicitor General Seth Waxman. The task force aims to assess how AI will affect the practice of law, probe ethical questions, and focus on issues like risk management, AI governance, and AI in legal education. ABA President Mary Smith emphasized the need to address both the "promise and the peril" of emerging technologies like AI. The initiative reflects a broader trend of growing interest in AI tools among legal professionals, including law schools considering the use of AI in applications and classrooms.By way of brief biographical background, Lucy Thomson, the group's chair, is the principal at a firm in Washington D.C., Livingston PLLC, that focuses on issues related to cyber security.Michael Chertoff was the co-author of the PATRIOT act, and former Secretary of Homeland Security under George W. Bush. Seth Waxman was Solicitor General of the United States from 1997 through 2001 and is frequently before the Supreme Court. The average age among the team is about 70, they're all lawyers, and none of them have any evident technical expertise.ABA taps prominent lawyers to tackle AI risks, opportunities | ReutersA U.S. District Judge, James Donato, is set to decertify a class-action lawsuit against Google involving 21 million consumers who claimed the tech giant violated federal antitrust laws through its Google Play app store. The decision could significantly reduce any damages that Google might owe for its distribution of Android mobile applications. The judge stated that his previous class certification order from November 2022 should be thrown out, as he decided not to allow an economist to testify as an expert witness for the consumers. This move eliminated an "essential element" of the consumers' argument for class certification. The class action had included consumers from 12 U.S. states and five territories, separate from a similar case brought by state attorneys general against Google.US judge set to decertify Google Play class action | Reuters Get full access to Minimum Competence - Daily Legal News Podcast at www.minimumcomp.com/subscribe

We have a fun this day in legal history entry for today, on this day, May 15, in 1911, the US Supreme Court ordered the dissolution of Standard Oil pursuant to the Sherman Antitrust Act, holding that Standard Oil's monopoly “unduly” restrained trade. The ruling resulted in breaking Standard Oil up into 34 independent companies. These companies became known as the "baby Standards." The breakup aimed to promote competition and prevent the concentration of economic power in a single entity.Among the prominent companies that emerged from the Standard Oil breakup were Exxon (formerly Standard Oil of New Jersey), Mobil (formerly Standard Oil of New York), Chevron (formerly Standard Oil of California), and Amoco (formerly Standard Oil of Indiana). These companies went on to become major players in the oil industry. Ultimately, they've merged back down in to 4. Perfect.President Joe Biden and congressional Republicans are engaged in critical debt-ceiling talks in an effort to reach a deal on spending levels and energy regulations to prevent a damaging default. While both sides are not close to an agreement, the White House has not ruled out the annual spending caps that Republicans insist on for any increase in the $31.4 trillion debt limit. Republicans, on the other hand, are not demanding conditions that the White House considers off-limits, such as repealing green-energy incentives in Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. Energy regulations could potentially be an area of common ground. Biden expressed optimism about reaching a deal and meetings between staff from both sides were described as constructive. However, time is running out, with the United States projected to run out of money to pay its bills as early as June 1. A default would have severe economic consequences and worry investors and consumers. Republicans argue that there is still plenty of time for a deal to be reached. Biden has called for Congress to increase the borrowing capacity without conditions but has also indicated a willingness to discuss budget matters with Republicans. Republicans face pressure from former President Donald Trump, who suggested allowing the country to default unless all their demands are met. House Republicans previously passed legislation that combines a $1.5 trillion debt-ceiling hike with $4.8 trillion in spending cuts, but Democrats oppose certain elements of that legislation. However, they have not ruled out spending caps more generally. The White House and Republicans might also consider easing permitting requirements for energy infrastructure. The longer it takes to reach an agreement, the narrower the scope of the deal is expected to become.Biden, Republicans search for outline of debt-limit deal | ReutersXCast Labs, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider, has been sued by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for allegedly facilitating billions of illegal robocalls. The FTC is seeking a court order to compel the company to cease the practice. XCast is accused of assisting other companies, including one that falsely claimed to be a government entity, in contacting individuals on the National Do Not Call Registry and using deceptive tactics to persuade them to make purchases or contributions. The lawsuit requests unspecified penalties against XCast. The company has not yet provided a comment in response to the allegations. The allegations stated that Google hired radio announcers to provide testimonials about the phone, even though they were not allowed to use it. This settlement comes as Google faces scrutiny from both federal and state authorities regarding antitrust and consumer protection issues. Google stated that it takes advertising compliance seriously and is “pleased” to resolve the matter.Google to pay $8 million to settle claims of deceptive ads -Texas AG | ReutersWe have previously reported on the fact Gilead Sciences recently won a patent-infringement case brought by the federal government over HIV drug patents, causing mixed opinions among industry insiders and healthcare advocates about the impact on future collaborations. The jury voided three government-owned patents and ruled that Gilead's Truvada and Descovy for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) did not infringe them. While some believe the verdict won't significantly affect government-industry collaborations, others worry it may discourage pharmaceutical companies from entering license agreements with the government. The case highlights the complex relationship between the government and industry regarding intellectual property rights in research partnerships. Now the issue is that the outcome could potentially lead to a more deferential approach by the government towards pharmaceutical companies, raising concerns about high drug prices and limited access for consumers. The case underscores the ongoing tension between the government's desire to protect its rights and the pharmaceutical industry's need for collaboration, leaving the future of such partnerships uncertain and signaling potential implications for not only pricing but also access to innovative treatments.Big Pharma, US Research Pacts in Flux After Gilead's Trial WinRush-Copley Medical Center Inc., located in Illinois, has been denied summary judgment in a medical malpractice case where a non-employed doctor, Hinna Khan, is accused of negligence. The court ruled that the degree of control exerted by the hospital over Khan was a matter of fact that needed to be determined by a jury. Typically, hospitals have no control over the medical judgment of non-employee physicians, but this case raises the question of whether the hospital can be held vicariously liable for the alleged negligence of a doctor perceived by patients to be employed by the facility.Nathaniel Pryor Sr. and Adriana Madrigal filed the lawsuit against Rush and Khan, alleging that negligent care by the pediatrician caused brain damage, leading to their son's cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, and permanent disability. Rush argued that it couldn't be held liable because Khan was not its employee, as indicated on an admission form signed by the baby's mother. However, in Illinois, hospitals can be held responsible for the actions of doctors who are their actual or apparent agents.Apparent agency is established when a physician's actions would reasonably lead someone to believe they are an employee of the hospital, and the hospital acquiesces to such conduct, causing the plaintiff to rely on it. This is a highly fact-dependent question that the court determined should be resolved by a jury. The plaintiffs asserted that Rush's discharge policy required Khan to fulfill certain obligations before discharging a patient, which she allegedly failed to do.Rush contended that the discharge policy only applied to nurses, but there was evidence suggesting that doctors were also expected to follow it. Judge Franklin U. Valderrama concluded that there was an unresolved question of fact regarding Rush's control over Khan's discharge decisions, denying the hospital's motion for summary judgment. The case will now proceed to trial, shedding light on the complex issue of hospital liability for non-employed physicians and the importance of clarifying the nature of their relationship in such cases.Illinois Hospital Faces Trial Over Doctor's Alleged Negligence Get full access to Minimum Competence - Daily Legal News Podcast at www.minimumcomp.com/subscribe

President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act may be good news for the clean energy sector, but what does it mean for Canada? That's a more complex question. On one hand, some aspects of it are likely to benefit Canadian businesses. But much of the funding included in the legislation is reserved for American producers and could make it difficult for Canada to build its own domestic clean energy sector. If clean energy is going to be a big part of developed economies in the future, that's a problem. On this episode, Michael Bernstein, the Executive Director of Clean Prosperity, joins us to break down what's in the Inflation Reduction Act, what it means for Canada, and why he thinks Canada needs to develop its own clean industrial strategy that's tailored for our strengths. ----- Links: More episodes of Free Lunch by The Peak: https://readthepeak.com/shows/free-lunch Follow Taylor on Twitter: @taylorscollon Follow Sarah on Twitter: @sarahbartnicka Subscribe to The Peak's daily business newsletter: https://readthepeak.com/b/the-peak/subscribe

Electric vehicles find themselves on a rocky road. Following years of growth and advancements in battery technology, supply chain bottlenecks have created uncertainty in the market. President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act was stacked with tax incentives intended to drive EV adoption, but it was vague on battery requirements. The focus on growing the mineral and battery component industries in the US has prompted fresh scrutiny on China's dominance of production as exports of Chinese-made EVs rose to almost a million in 2022. Currently Indonesia and Thailand are planning similar government subsidies for EVs, while global organisations and governments have asked the Biden administration to relax its strict requirements around what EVs qualify for a tax credit. These policy debates continue against a backdrop of ever-increasing demand for EVs. Despite a 6% year-on-year decrease in total sales in December 2022, last year was a record year for EVs. 10.4 million units were sold. On the Interchange: Recharged, host David Banmiller is joined by Michael Insulan from Electra, and Egor Prokhodtsev from Wood Mackenzie. Michael is interim CFO and VP of Commercial at the battery manufacturer, and explores how Electra is working to meet the demand for batteries by utilising new technologies and materials, as well as looking to recycle obsolete batteries. Egor is Senior Research Analyst at Wood Mackenzie, and with David examines the current state of the EV market. Demand is growing, and something has to power the millions of vehicles sold each year. There's a huge opportunity for organisations at the right place and right time to secure their future as supplier to the world of lithium, cobalt and nickel. National bans on ICE vehicles in the UK and Germany by 2030, France by 2040, and California by 2035 are snapshots of where the world is heading. Smoothing the road ahead so EVs can drive us to a net zero world is critical. Follow us on Twitter – we're @interchangeshow. Emma hosts Kate Aronoff, climate reporter for The New Republic, to discuss her recent pieces regarding environmental social and corporate governing, or ESG. Then, she's joined by Trita Parsi, Executive Vice President at the Quincy Institute, to discuss his recent piece in Foreign Affairs entitled "How China Became a Peacemaker in the Middle East", co-authored with Khalid Eljabri. First, Emma runs through updates on the abortion pill ban, the bailout of Credit Suisse, the rising probability of a recession, smog regulations, a potential freight rail merger, and statistics on COVID's impact on pregnancy deaths, before parsing through Ro Khanna's relationship to Silicon Valley and squaring his progressive positioning with his David Sacks fundraising. Kate Aronoff dives right into the recent GOP push (passing through both the House and Senate) against “Woke” Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) policies, watching Kevin McCarthy attempt to paint these programs as authoritarian mandates forcing retirement funds to invest in a left-wing agenda. Next, Aronoff walks Emma through the relationship of this Right-Wing project to their greater agenda of dismantling the administrative state, before they step back to tackle the actual relationship between ESG and major corporations, like BlackRock and Vanguard, looking at how these policies provide a path for rehabilitation of public opinion alongside copious tax breaks, while executives lobby behind the scenes to ensure that the policy never evolves to actual corporate regulation. Wrapping up, Emma and Kate explore the impact of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, and the future of environmental incentivization and regulation. Trita Parsi then jumps into the revelatory role of China in brokering a normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, completely changing their previous stance on foreign policy, and showing that they must be taken seriously on the international stage when it comes to diplomacy. Next, they tackle the particular failure of the US' multi-decade disaster in the Middle East, setting ourselves up as an inflammatory and biased outside actor that bends over backward for our allies, before they wrap up the interview with an assessment of the US elite's China hawkery and the role it continues to play in the US' refusal to promote Middle Eastern autonomy. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they tackle the revelations of Ron DeSantis' various policies, from utensils to Ukraine, talk with Adam from Manhattan about the corruption behind our current financial moment, and Matt Lech goes all out on the conservative exploitation of hunger and poverty. Expanding on this, the crew tackles Minnesota State Sen. Steve Brazkowski's denouncement of a school hunger program, and Jason from Minnesota calls in to give his take on the issue. They also discuss Russell Brand's amicable appearance on Tucker Carlson and how it differs from his other relationships with corporate media, plus, your calls and IMs! In this episode Tom discusses the EU's planned new AI and Due Diligence laws and their impact on HR/IR decision making. She has delivered $39M+ in net new revenue for organizations over the past five years. She built the digital activation campaign for the clean future plan that powered the majority of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. She's grown acquisition programs to more than 9x their former size. Her communications efforts have led to human rights victories such as the unconditional release of prisoners of conscience domestically and internationally. And she's saved organizations an average of 18% of their annual marketing expenses with efficiencies gained in tech stack, targeting, and contractual enhancements.Elyse has played leadership roles in supporting some of the largest nonprofit brands in the world — including Amnesty International, Heifer International, Feeding America, UNICEF USA, The Nature Conservancy, and World Food Program USA — in both client-side and agency settings. She also spent time leading GOTV efforts in consulting roles at Center for American Progress and Blue State during the 2016 and 2020 election cycles. After nearly two decades working for nonprofits, she launched Agility Lab Consulting to support business leaders in reaching their audiences through smart strategies that stay ahead of shifts in technology, algorithms, consumer demand and rising demand for privacy. She specializes in assessing internal solutions portfolios – including current-state approach to financial projections, tech stack integration, media investments, and user experience design – and using findings to build an integrated vision that achieves KPI targets, breaks down channel silos, and pushes the limits of program growth. Key Takeaways:There are new data privacy laws that are being pushed today and big tech companies are making moves that will show their users that they are being respected. Therefore, companies will have to be creative about our marketing because we won't have insights provided by trackers by social media sights. Set up your own baseline and start making your own measurement tools. Take stock of the data that you have available right now and ingest all that information in order to make good decisions. It would be a good idea not to rely on third party information in the future. Relying too much into your social media page is like building a house on rented land, that's why it's our job to get people off of our social media pages and into our websites and email list. Websites are a more solid foundation than social media, a lot of people lose their social media pages and most are never able to recover it. Don't try to own the tree, instead, pick a leaf off the tree and own that. Find a specific area you intend to impact in the nonprofit space and commit to it. Make sure that you're not in a space that's going to be overly competitive. “We can't keep just moving money from digital channel to digital channel, we need to think long game. We need to think about the the content strategies and the attribution vehicles that are going to help set us up so that we understand who our audiences are.” “You need to take stock of the data that you have available to you right now and create as much of a first party internal understanding of who your audience is, that doesn't rely on all of these third parties to tell you, who cares about your mission.” “The name of the game is first-party data acquisition.” “You want to make sure that your brand name is very relevant and forward. And you also want to make sure that you are not in a space that's going to be overly competitive.”- Elyse Wallnutt Reach out to Elyse Wallnutt at:Website: https://www.agilitylab.io/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elysewallnutt/ Be more confident, credible & convincing to your board & supporters without feeling rejected, ineffective, or pushy. University. His most recent book is: “THE COAL TRAP: How West Virginia Was Left Behind in the Clean Energy Revolution.” He highlights how political and business leaders have been unable to move beyond the “coal trap” of West Virginia's heritage, and how it harmed the state's citizens and dimmed their future prospects through the obstinate reliance on an unsustainable and outmoded resource: coal. The state experienced a “Lost Decade” because West Virginia leaders doubled down on fossil fuels and ignored the clean energy technology. In reality, there is not a “War on Coal” because market forces and consumer demand dictated the outcome. President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act provided assistance to West Virginia through tax credits and other energy-saving initiatives.

We return from our hiatus to discuss Biden's trillion-dollar student loan forgiveness plan. Even for those with little background in economics, this is clearly a case of the inverse Robin Hood: a regressive act that takes from the poor and gives to the much less poor. Not to mention, the plan is an assault on the Congressional power of the purse, and legally murky with the justification of the post-9/11 Heroes Act. And let us not forget that this act paradoxically comes on the heels of Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, though it is an incredibly costly plan that will only exacerbate current inflation levels. As the Democratic Party consolidates its role as the party of college-educated coastal elites, AEI's Michael Strain joins us to unpack the student loan handout. Strain is the Director of Economic Studies at the American Enterprise Institute. Biden's Inflation Reduction Act hurts the electric vehicle push. I'm Peter Serefine, and this is today's Liberty Minute. It is no secret that Biden is pushing for electric vehicles, but his Inflation Reduction Act is contrary to that push. Prior to the Inflation Reduction Act, 72 vehicles qualified for a buyer tax credit. Now, only 16 models qualify. Of the 16 that qualify, only two have a list price below $36,000. Economical options like Toyota and Hyundai don't qualify for the tax credit, but BMW and Audi do. The average price of an electric vehicle that does qualify is $55,000 plus taxes and fees. So, once again, the government claimed to be helping the poor, but I don't know any poor people who can buy a BMW even with a tax credit. After discussing how inflation is impacting some of the spending behavior of higher-income Americans, Mike walks us through his analysis of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act and how it could impact your family. Also, despite July being a good month on wall street, he explains why he believes we are still technically in a recession and why it could get worse. And if you saw the movie “The Big Short,” you'll want to hear why the guy who (in real life) bet on the collapse of subprime mortgages ahead of the 2008 financial crisis is worried about the economy again.
