STREAMING MAKING OF THE JBS, FEATURING GORDON CHANG, VICTORIA COATES, MARK SIMON, STEVE YATES, 4-29-26"SEND YOUR BINOCULARS TO THE NAVY"This transcript from The John Bachelor Show explores the shifting dynamics of the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, specifically under the leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The participants argue that Britain's global influence is declining, citing military inadequacies and a failure to protect strategic assets like Diego Garcia. The conversation then transitions to the dire health of imprisoned Hong Kong activist Jimmy Lai, framing his treatment as a symbol of the Chinese Communist Party's uncompromising authoritarianism. Furthermore, the experts analyze a potential summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, questioning whether such a meeting is appropriate while China supports adversaries like Iran and Russia. Ultimately, the speakers advocate for a tougher stance against the "devil's triangle" of Beijing, Moscow, and Tehran, suggesting that the U.S. should prioritize newer European allies like Poland over traditional partners.

Only the magnetometer and plasma wave subsystem remain active. •       Engineers are developing 'the Big Bang' — a plan to swap older components with lower-power alternatives — to extend operations into the 2030s. Testing on Voyager 2 is planned for May/June 2026; Voyager 1 to follow no sooner than July. •       Source: NASA JPL — https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasa-shuts-off-instrument-on-voyager-1-to-keep-spacecraft-operating/   Story 2 — Curiosity Rover Finds Organic Molecules on Mars •       Published April 21 in Nature Communications, the study describes the first use of the TMAH chemical experiment on another planet. •       More than 20 organic molecules were detected in clay-rich sandstone from the Glen Torridon region of Gale Crater, preserved for over 3.5 billion years. •       Discoveries include a nitrogen-bearing molecule structurally similar to DNA precursors — never before confirmed on Mars — and benzothiophene. •       The experiment cannot determine whether molecules are biological, geological, or meteoritic in origin. Future missions including Rosalind Franklin and Dragonfly will build on the technique. •       Source: phys.org — https://phys.org/news/2026-04-mars-rover-compounds.html   Story 3 — Black Hole Jets in Cygnus X-1 •       Curtin University-led study published April 16 in Nature Astronomy directly measures the instantaneous power of black hole jets for the first time. •       The jets in the Cygnus X-1 system carry energy equivalent to 10,000 suns and travel at approximately half the speed of light (150,000 km/s). •       Researchers used the companion star's stellar winds to 'bend' the jets, allowing calculation of their real-time power — a technique compared to watching wind deflect a fountain. •       About 10% of the energy released as matter falls into the black hole is carried away by the jets — confirming a long-held theoretical assumption. •       The measurement will help calibrate future observations from the Square Kilometre Array Observatory, currently under construction in WA. •       Source: ScienceDaily — https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2026/04/260416071949.htm   Story 4 — SpaceX 600th Rocket Landing •       SpaceX completed its 600th successful Falcon booster landing on April 19, 2026, during the Starlink 17-22 mission from Vandenberg SFB. •       Booster B1097 landed on drone ship 'Of Course I Still Love You' for its eighth successful recovery. The milestone arrived just 7 months after the 500th landing. •       The tally includes 496 drone ship landings and 104 ground landings, per SpaceX VP Kiko Dontchev. •       SpaceX's Starlink constellation now numbers over 10,275 satellites in orbit. •       Source: Space.com — https://www.space.com/space-exploration/launches-spacecraft/spacex-starlink-17-22-b1097-vsfb-ofisly-600th-falcon-landing   Story 5 — Artemis Spacesuit Crisis •       NASA's Office of Inspector General report (released April 20) warns that next-generation Artemis spacesuits may not be ready until 2031 — three years after the stated 2028 target. •       The xEVAS programme began as a two-company competition (Axiom Space + Collins Aerospace). Collins has effectively been removed after missing milestones. Axiom is now the sole contractor for the lunar surface suit. •       OIG analysis: based on an 8.7-year historical average from contract award to first flight for comparable NASA programmes, Axiom's 2022 award points to a 2031 delivery. •       NASA Administrator Isaacman has publicly maintained confidence in the 2028 date. Axiom plans a suit demonstration in 2026 on the ISS or during an Artemis mission. •       A separate risk: if the ISS variant of the suit slips past 2030, the Station could run out of operational EVA suits before decommissioning. •       Additional Artemis delays: SpaceX lunar Starship at least 2 years late; Blue Origin Blue Moon at least 8 months late (per separate March OIG report). •       Source: SpaceDaily — https://spacedaily.com/sd-n-the-spacesuit-gap-why-artemis-iiis-2028-landing-date-is-already-slipping/   Story 6 — Skywatching: Moon & Jupiter Conjunction •       Tonight (April 22), the half moon sits approximately 3 degrees from Jupiter in the constellation Gemini, near the stars Castor and Pollux. •       Visible to the naked eye in the western/northwestern sky after sunset. Binoculars will reveal Jupiter's four Galilean moons. •       Southern Hemisphere viewers: look northwest after dark; viewing window narrows the further south you are. •       Source: Space.com — https://www.space.com/stargazing/the-moon-and-jupiter-steal-the-show-after-sunset-on-april-22Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/astronomy-daily-space-news-updates--5648921/support.Sponsor Details:Ensure your online privacy by using NordVPN. How do you increase your spiritual insight and find blind spots? Jesus answers that question in the account of blind Bartimaeus. In this exposition of Gospel of Mark 10:47–52, we follow the desperate cry of Bartimaeus and discover what it really takes to receive sight from Jesus Christ. And why the needier you are, the bolder you can be in prayer. Spiritual insight doesn't come to the casual or comfortable—it comes to those who seek it with urgency, humility, and bold faith. Bartimaeus refused to be silenced, cried out all the louder, and seized his moment when Jesus passed by. His story exposes our lack of urgency and invites us into a deeper, more desperate pursuit of God. If you enjoy the episode, please consider subscribing to the podcast and leaving a 5-stars rating. But I couldn't get anyone at KUMD interested in helping with production. Tim Winker, "the VOICE of the North Woods" and one of KUMD's most creative volunteers, helped me each week, running the board and making sure everything went okay, but without sponsors, I couldn't pay anyone (much less myself), and it took about 60 hours each week for me to get the pre-recorded segments written and produced. So it didn't last. This was one of the segments on that program. Tim Winker introduced the piece, Karen Keenan played Earth Angel, Russ Erickson played Lars, and Stephanie Hemphill played Juliet Montague.

By staying curious and paying close attention, Carl suggests we can learn to notice these moments and respond more thoughtfully. In Living on the Edge, Dave Frodsham looks at Hebrews 11:1–19 to redefine what it actually means to live by faith. Using a hilarious (and true) story about a $3.5 million “inheritance” scam versus a real legal inheritance, Dave explains that the power of your faith isn’t about how much you have, but who you are trusting in. Dave looks at: Faith as a Title Deed: It is the “substance” of things hoped for. Like moving house, you might not be in the new place yet, but if your name is on the contract, it belongs to you. The “Binoculars” of the Spirit: How to see God's promises as “absolute facts” even when your current circumstances look like smoke and mirrors. Desire Over Performance: Why God isn’t “ashamed” to be called our God—not because we are perfect, but because we hunger for a better, heavenly country. The “Jump” Analogy: A reminder that even when you can’t see God through the “smoke” of life, He can see you perfectly. When He says “Jump,” you can trust His arms. The post Dave Frodsham: Living on the Edge first appeared on Jubilee Church Wirral.

Their innovative visual test uses a consumer-grade VR headset to deliver a gamified, less stressful, more engaging experience for patients, encouraging longer, more frequent testing. This approach also improves dataset precision and overcomes barriers in clinical trials for new therapeutics for diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, potentially accelerating the development of vision-saving treatments. Ben explains, "Vivid Vision addresses two conditions. One of them is binocular dysfunctions, which include conditions like amblyopia, strabismus, and convergence insufficiency. And the other one that we're really focusing strongly on now is visual field testing, which is especially important to use for monitoring people who have glaucoma. It also gets used for screening tests for glaucoma, and it's an especially important part of getting new therapeutics approved for any medication that is going to try to preserve your sight. That includes macular degeneration, a particular flavor of macular degeneration, degeneration called geographic atrophy, inherited retinal diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and stroke. It's the visual field test that we are putting the majority of our effort into, but we still also treat binocular dysfunction."   James elaborates, "I originally got started, I guess, because I grew up with some binocular vision disorders. I had a lazy eye and a crossed eye, also known as strabismus and amblyopia. And I had kind of the traditional experience as a kid where I was not cooperative with the treatments, wearing my eye patch, and doing eye exercises, and that sort of thing. And I wasn't successfully treated as a kid. About 60% of the time, that's the case in the US, where kids are not successfully treated for conditions. Then, when I was older, in my mid-twenties, I got interested in this topic through a TED talk by a neuroscientist, Sue Barry. That ultimately caused me to make the first prototypes, and I was able to gain 3D vision depth perception from some of those first prototypes. Seeing a place you want to look is key. Many hunters do not utilize their optics effectively. Optics can enhance your wildlife observation skills. You have to put your glass to your face. The closest giant galaxy to the Milky Way is Messier 31, the Andromeda Galaxy. It’s two-and-a-half million light-years away. But it’s getting closer – by about 250,000 miles every hour. For more than a decade, in fact, it’s looked like the two galaxies were on a collision course. But a recent study says there’s only a 50-50 chance of a collision and merger. And if it does happen, it’ll take place billions of years later than previous estimates. The new study used years of observations by two space telescopes – Hubble and Gaia. Researchers plugged those observations into simulations that also considered the gravitational effects of two smaller galaxies. The results indicated that one of them tends to push Andromeda and the Milky Way together, while the other tends to pull them apart. The researchers ran a hundred thousand simulations. In half of them, Andromeda and the Milky Way flew past each other and went their own ways. In the other half, they eventually spiraled together and merged – but not for at least 10 billion years – twice as long as earlier estimates. The simulations aren’t the final word – there are just too many uncertainties. But for now, it seems likely that the two giants will stay apart for a long, long time. M31 is in the northeast at nightfall. Under dark skies, it’s visible as a hazy patch of light. Binoculars make it easier to pick out. Script by Damond Benningfield

Mars and Regulus

Two fairly bright lights are headed for an especially close meet-up: the planet Mars and the star Regulus, the heart of the lion. They’re a few degrees apart tonight, but they’ll draw even closer over the coming evenings. Right now, Mars and Regulus are almost the same brightness. One way to tell them apart is their color – Mars looks pale orange, while Regulus is white with a hint of blue. Binoculars accentuate the colors. Another way to tell them apart is to look for them to twinkle. Regulus does, but Mars doesn’t. That’s because Mars is a bigger target in our sky. Regulus is thousands of times the size of Mars. But it’s so far away that we see it as nothing more than a pinpoint. That tiny beam of light is bent and twisted as it passes through the atmosphere. That causes the star to “twinkle.” It twinkles more when the air is more unsettled. Mars, on the other hand, is close enough that it appears as a tiny disk, made up of many pinpoints. Each one twinkles, but they even out. So Mars appears to hold steady as it shines through even the most un-steady skies. Look for Mars and Regulus about a third of the way up the western sky at nightfall. Regulus perches to the left or upper left of Mars. They’ll pass closest to one another on Monday and Tuesday. After that, they’ll move apart. At the same time, Mars will fade. A couple of weeks from now, Regulus will clearly outshine the Red Planet. Script by Damond Benningfield

Cursed Games and Rituals: Part 5This week, we explore three eerie cursed games that blur the line between ritual and entertainment. We first discuss the Binoculars Game (also known as Eye Spy), where participants must secure a friend with rope while searching for a mysterious approaching figure through windows.Next, we delve into Cat Scratch, a seemingly innocent party game where one person lies with their head in another's lap while hearing a creepy story, potentially resulting in unexplained scratch marks appearing on their back.We also discuss the Witch's Window ritual, which involves setting up a mirror with candles and salt to communicate with spirits from the beyond. This particular game requires specific safety precautions to ensure you're only creating a "window" rather than a "door" for entities to pass through. As with all our cursed games episodes, we emphasize that while these rituals might seem far-fetched, we don't endorse trying them yourself - the line between skepticism and genuine paranormal experience often blurs when you're sitting alone in the dark, following strange instructions that might invite something unexpected into your world.Patreon: Support Believing the Bizarre and get tons of extra content by joining our Patreon. For updates, news, and extra content, follow Believing the Bizarre on social media:InstagramFacebookTwitterDiscordShop Merch: You can rep Believing the Bizarre and buy some unique merchWant to send BTB something?
