The Ancient Greeks believed they existed before the dawn of time, yet they're a mystery to most, so, for this week's Bonus Episode we're exploring the long and complex history of Nymphs!Part of the "Three Ravens Bestiary" series, we start off discussing the roles Nymphs played in the Greco-Roman pantheon, including how they were classified and eventually used, in Imperial projects, to present local and regional gods of pagan cultures, such as the Celts and Britons, as less powerful than the Olympians. This then sees us look at examples of some ancient genius loci from across England, including those found in shrines at Hadrian's Wall, where some local deities defied the odds and survived well into Christianization, later becoming recognised as Saints. From there we head in two directions - firstly, forward, via Chaucer, Marvell and Shakespeare, into a place where Nymphs and Faeries got a little bit muddled up in the British mindset. After that, we journey back to the start, exploring how writers like Hesiod, Homer, and many others, developed and contributed to the collective idea of 'Nymph Lore' - the roles Nymphs played in city foundation, how they were worshiped, and what 'Nympholepsy' - Nymph Madness - was, and why some people sought it out! Via discussions of the 18th century invention of the idea of 'Nymphomania' - in contrast with other misogynistic (and anti-British) ideas such as Tacitus' characterisation of the Roman Witch Empress Messalina, the vengeful Iceni Queen Boudica, and figures like Britannicus, we wash up in the present day - a time when being called a "nymph" seems to have nothing to do with nature spirits, and much more to do with systems of power and control...The Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Francis Ducharme a entamé, au début des années 2000, un parcours riche d'expériences où il exploite à la fois ses talents de comédien et de danseur. Il a pris part à de nombreuses productions au cours des dix dernières années, notamment, Cinq visages pour Camille Brunelle, On ne badine pas avec l'amour, Bonjour, là, bonjour, Toccate et fugue, L'Idiot. En 2019, il brille dans la pièce Britannicus, mis en scène par Florent Siaud (TNM). Son interprétation de Néron lui a valu le prix du meilleur interprète masculin remis par l'Association québécoise des critiques de théâtre. Il était récemment de la distribution de Corps titan, présenté au Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui. La carrière cinématographique de Francis a débuté en 2003 avec le long métrage Elles étaient cinq de Ghislaine Côté. L'année suivante, il a incarné Paul dans C.R.A.Z.Y. de Jean-Marc Vallée. On l'a ensuite vu dans La Capture (Carole Laure), Grande Ourse – La Clé des possibles (Patrice Sauvé), Les Signes vitaux (Sophie Deraspe), Corbo (Mathieu Denis). En 2015, il personnifie Joe Lebel dans le film Chasse-Galerie de Jean-Philippe Duval et récemment dans Dis-moi pourquoi ces choses sont si belles de Lyne Charlebois. A recent graduate from LAMDA, Ned Costello has been making quite the impact on the theatre scene. Since his debut understudying Nero in the Lyric Hammersmith's production of Britannicus last year, Ned has gained a reputation for playing being one of few young actors truly able to capture the essence of a theatrical villain. He's currently preparing to open the Park Theatre's highly anticipated revival of Philip Ridley's Leaves of Glass where he will play the central character of Steven. After a period of playing to large houses like the Lyric Hammersmith and Nottingham Playhouse, this will also mark a return for Ned performing in an intimate studio space with the play arriving at Park Theatre's PARK90 auditorium. In their first major interview, Ned Costello opens up about the past year - stepping onto the Lyric Hammersmith stage last minute to play the legendary Roman Emperor Nero and then playing opposite Olivier Award winners Adrian Scarborough and Sophie Thompson in The Clothes They Stoop Up In. His debut has excited audiences and his peers as anticipation grows around Leaves of Glass. Throughout our interview, he shares his unwavering enthusiasm for the industry that he's joined. After finishing a Politics and International Relations degree at University of Bristol, his transition to acting was perhaps not unexpected after spending some time with NYMT - he even shares he was mentored by West End leading lady Alex Young! When we ask him if he'd be interested in returning to musicals, he immediately sprites up - expressing his love for Standing at the Sky's Edge and Cabaret which have opened to huge acclaim. Diplômé de l'École nationale de théâtre, Etienne Boucher se lance rapidement dans un rythme effréné de créations dès sa sortie de l'institution en 1999. De même, il récolte une ribambelle de nominations à la soirée des Masques. Et en 2007 il accomplit un doublé, l'Académie québécoise du théâtre lui décerne le Masque de la conception des éclairages pour Du vent entre les dents mis en scène de Martin Faucher (Théâtre d'Aujourd'hui, 2007) ainsi que pour la Dame aux Camélias, mise en scène de Robert Bellefeuille (TNM, 2006). Une importante collaboration s’amorce en 2003 avec le metteur en scène Robert Lepage où émerge des projets de théâtre, d’opéra et de ballet. Tous des projets qui l’amèneront à travailler à l’international. Dès le début il met en lumière La Celestina qui sera présenté en tournée en Espagne. The Rake’s Progress sera sa première incursion à l’opéra. Production qui fera le tour du monde en passant par le Covent Garden de Londres et la Scala de Milan.Son plus important projet sera sans contesté la conception des éclairages de la tétralogie de Wagner Der Ring des Nibelungen au Metropolitan Opera de New York. Un gigantesque projet qui s’étalonne sur presque 6 ans de travail. En 2011 avec la présentation du premier épisode de la Tétralogie de Wagner L’Or du Rhin et Totem (Cirque du Soleil) observés par le magazine LDI, on lui décerne le Redden Awards for Excellence in Lighting. Le metteur en scène de Québec lui confiera la conception des éclairages de Frame by Frame avec The National Ballet of Canada soit une première aventure dans le domaine du ballet pour les deux complices.
