Myriam Belzile-Maguire is the Founder and Designer at Maguire Shoes, an independent fashion footwear and accessories brand based in Montreal, Canada. Co-owned by Myriam and her sister, Romy, the award-winning brand has built a strategic presence in digital and physical marketplaces. Under Myriam's leadership, Maguire Shoes operates boutiques in Montreal, Toronto, and New York and was honored with the Emerging Talent Award in Accessories at the 2022 Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards. Before founding Maguire, Myriam designed for dozens of renowned brands, such as Opening Ceremony, and held creative positions at United Colors of Benetton in Italy and Aldo Group in Montreal. In this episode… Expanding an ecommerce brand can be challenging, especially when online sales plateau and customer acquisition costs rise. Many brands struggle to find ways to scale beyond digital advertising and wonder if brick-and-mortar stores are worth the investment. How can physical retail locations drive online growth instead of competing with it? With experience growing a thriving fashion brand, Myriam Belzile-Maguire has navigated the challenges of blending retail and ecommerce to fuel her brand's expansion. Initially starting with a Shopify website, Myriam realized that participating in local markets and opening physical stores significantly boosted online traffic and sales. The strategy involved a mix of pop-up events and permanent retail locations, allowing customers to experience the brand first-hand, which in turn drove them to shop online. Myriam demonstrates how creating a seamless customer experience across all channels, engaging local communities, and using data-driven strategies like using pop-ups to test new markets can boost online conversions.  In this episode of Minds of Ecommerce, Raphael Paulin-Daigle interviews Myriam Belzile-Maguire, Founder and Designer at Maguire Shoes, about how retail stores can supercharge ecommerce growth. Myriam discusses the balance between physical and digital sales channels, the strategy behind pop-up shops, and her unique "wardrobe system" that converts in-store visitors into repeat online customers. Tune in to discover how strategic retail moves can elevate your brand's online presence.

Interview with Lowell

Bringin' it Backwards

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 4, 2020 26:37

Together with American Songwriter and Sean Ulbs of The Eiffels, we had the pleasure of interviewing Lowell over Zoom video! Lowell has experienced an entire career’s worth of music industry ups-and-downs in an astonishingly short period of time. Her journey from dropping out of college and working as a stripper to finding her footing as the go-to songwriter for platinum selling pop stars will be fodder for an incredible book one day, but freshly earned double platinum (“Not A Love Song” by Bülow) and gold (“Selfish” by Madison Beer) certified plaques and a new solo album on the way, Lowell’s in no rush to write her story. It’s only just beginning. And if she’s learned anything from the last decade, it’s that when life hands you lemons…Los Angeles/Toronto based singer-songwriter Lowell recently released “Lemonade,” a modern piano ballad that pulls as much inspiration from ‘70s singer-songwriters like Carole King and Randy Newman as it does Frank Ocean and Lana Del Rey. The new stripped-back single about toxic positivity feels timeless, like it was pulled out of a collective memory, but with a big F-bomb in the hook and a prominent Migos-esque triplet flow in the pre-chorus, it couldn’t be more contemporary. Pivoting from the pop world where she has found great success recently, Lowell chose to present these songs how they were written, in their most essential state and most simple essence. After leaving stripping and escaping a manipulative manager, Lowell was tapped by producer Martin Terefe to create her debut EP featuring collaborations with members of Coldplay, A-Ha and Mew. The EP caught the attention of indie label Arts & Crafts, who released her 2014 debut which prominently addressed her feminist politics and time spent as a sex worker. Critically adored, but commercially under-appreciated, she put her solo career on hold and moved to LA to focus on songwriting where she quickly began working with ascendent pop artists like Hailee Steinfeld, JoJo, Demi Lovato, Lennon Stella and Charlie Puth. Continuing her multidisciplinary artistic trajectory, Lowell co-wrote Bloodthirsty, a 2020 Canadian horror feature film about a young vegan indie singer, who finds herself turning into a werewolf under the pressure of recording her anticipated second album. The film features several new songs, including “Lemonade”. It was accepted into Frontieres at Cannes and will premiere at both Fantastic Fest in Austin TX (the US’s biggest genre fest) and Fantasia in Montreal (only 10 films accepted world wide). “Lemonade” is the first single from an album that’s due in early 2021.We want to hear from you! On Thursday this week, CAFA, the Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards, will host their sixth annual red-carpet Awards Gala, a unique evening that unite Canadian talent and fashion leaders from all over the world. To highlight CAFA and its impact in the life of Canadian fashion talent, many of them women, we will be showcasing a series of interviews with CAFA nominees and award winners. To kick things off, Eva Hartling spoke with the one and only Judith Maria Bradley, who is nominated for Model of the Year at this year's Gala. Judith is 74, and as a member of the CAFA organizing committee recently told her, there has never been a nominee over the age of 30 in that category. What is also surprising is that Judith only recently started modelling, in her late 60s. But what is truly inspiring is Judith's absolute love for life. She believes that life is magic, and after speaking with her for this interview, we believe she herself is pure magic. She has never followed conventional rules, and the word conventional simply does not belong in her vocabulary. One could say models in their 60s and 70s are having a moment, with the likes of Linda Rodin and Iris Apfel in the ranks; and Judith is definitely part of that movement. She's appeared in magazines (in Canada, the US and Europe); ad campaigns (including being casted for an Adidas campaign) and is a street style star with an active social media presence. But her real accomplishment is in proving to the world, and to women everywhere, that being a woman after 40, 50 or 60 does not mean taking a backseat, and that a career — including one usually reserved to twenty-somethings — is possible for anyone who dreams it. Now if only we could have more Judiths in the world…This episode was recorded at Hoame, Toronto's leading meditation and wellness space.
