Cam Doody knows what it takes to move an early-stage start-up through product fit, function, and successful launch as he has honed in on creating the right environment and formula for success. As co-founder and general partner of Brickyard, a venture capital firm based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Cam and his team specialize in supporting early-stage tech startups and have built a reputation so strong that they are expecting possibly up to 10,000 pitch decks of founders hoping to enter their program. Cam's philosophy is all about radical focus, grit, and fostering an ecosystem where founders can thrive in the most challenging stages of their journey. His commitment to family and the quality of life in Chattanooga underlines his focus on what truly matters, both professionally and personally, as he strives to back companies that will redefine their sectors and become household names. Here are some highlights: - Cam talks about how his experience scaling Bellhops into a national moving company helped fuel his transition into venture capital, leading to the founding of Brickyard. - Brickyard's unique model requires founders to relocate to Chattanooga, where they spend up to two years in an environment designed for relentless focus on growth and achieving product-market fit. - Cam shares what he looks for in founders—those who understand the long, difficult path of building a company and are willing to make significant sacrifices, including moving to a less tech-dense location. - Brickyard fosters a supportive community of founders, all in the same critical phase of their startup journey, which helps combat the loneliness and stress of building a high-growth company. - Cam outlines his vision for Brickyard to become one of the most exclusive and successful pre-seed and seed-stage investment programs, backing category-defining companies that harness the power of AI and the internet. Cam Doody is the co-founder and general partner of Brickyard, a Chattanooga- based venture capital firm that helps early-stage startup founders get Series A funding. An Auburn University's Harbert College of Business graduate, Cam is no stranger to entrepreneurship and taking risks. In 2011, Cam co-founded another company, Bellhop. Originating in his college dorm room, Bellhop rose to national prominence with $56 million in equity capital. Today, the company has raised over $90m in venture capital and expanded to serve state-wide and long-distance moves in more than 65 cities. Life Between Heaven and Earth Guests are Jacquel Tucker and Christine & Andrew Morkert Jacquel Tucker is from the island of Jamaica, where she grew up in a rural community with her 8 siblings – the daughter of a pastor and her mother a youth director for 7 churches. She is a former Director of Sales and Marketing in the Hospitality industry in the USA with over 25 years of experience. Today she is a business, brand, sales & marketing strategist for small businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs and nonprofits. Through her signature coaching and mentoring program, “My Purpose on Fire,” she has helped more than 70 professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs establish, brand, and launch their purpose-driven businesses or nonprofits for greater impact, income, and generational legacy. Jacquel and her husband Shun founded their nonprofit, The Jamaica Project USA, in 2016. Their mission is to transform rural schools and communities in Jamaica and serve lower-income communities in Georgia. She learned her biggest lesson in unshakeable faith from an early age. If God could raise her up from the dead, then he is exceedingly bigger than any of her circumstances, and anything is possible on her journey to “well done.” She lives daily believing, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Christine and Andrew Morkert reside in Chattanooga Tennessee. They just celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary and are planning a trip to Ireland for their 30th. This December will mark another anniversary...ten years of celebrating life after death. On December 1, 2014 life changed for Christine and Andrew when they walked into an emergency room, thinking that fluids and medication would help Christine overcome some flu-like symptoms. However, things quickly changed when both the nurse who had just seen Christine, and Andrew left the room briefly. When they returned back in, Christine was in distress and coded. Medical professionals performed life-saving CPR measures to restore her back to life. Afterward, there continued to be a long diagnosis and very little hope for her life to continue. But God had other plans!!!! It was not until after about 40 days of miraculous healing that Christine returned home to her husband, Andrew, and their three children. Christine and her family will always declare that prayer and standing on the word of God is what brought them through their death to life story. Leah Lykos, a dog behaviorist out of Chattanooga Tennessee and guardian to three dogs, Eva, Biggie, and Mia explains how her focus is on movement and somatic work. That makes sense given that she operates from the philosophy that for dogs even more so than for humans there is no separation of mind and body.We discuss something new to me: resistance feeding. The idea behind resistance feeding is to not control the dog's behavior but to provide an appropriate outlet for it.Everything is always on a spectrum, so we discuss how to know if you're allowing stress to dissipate or adding to the dog's stress. In that same sense of knowing if something is helpful or not, we touch on the concept of your dog as a mirror. When is hurting to see it that way and when is it helping?Leah explains how she differentiates between people who are already so aware of their own stress and so focused on solving for that, that it inhibits them in working with their dog,and people who are so detached from their body and their feelings. that they have no idea they may be projecting onto their dog. From there we dig into the inner work we get to do thanks to our dogs. When you have trouble connecting with your dog, what part of yourself do you have trouble connecting with or accepting? How does understanding your dog help to understand yourself? How do we regulate our own nervous system? Leah explains that it is her daily work to figure out how she can stay passionate about what she's doing, without getting completely wrapped up in every single case.Links:Leah's website: https://www.caninemovementlab.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/caninemovementlab/The YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSlbjJXVMBxSGBgkbNWXOZwEpisode website: https://kajsavanoverbeek.com/035-leah-lykos-of-canine-movement-lab-on-somatic-work-and-your-dog-as-your-mirror/

In this episode, the FAQ is: How can I take a walking tour when I arrive in a city? . Today's Destination is: Chattanooga, Tennessee Today's Misstep- Getting stopped by TSA security Travel Advice: Plan for the unexpected FAQ: How can I get the walking tour when I get to a city? Response: A guided walking tour of a city is a treat for a solo traveler, especially for a woman who is interested in its history. The more popular ones are through platforms like Viator, TripAdvisor, Airbnb, and FreeWalkingtoursbylocals.com, but there are many ways to score a tour from someone who truly cares about the experience for you. Be sure to read the reviews and book in advance during a busy season. Some are free, and suggest a tip at the end if you liked it. Your hotel could also gook you a tour. The Visitor Center or Tourism office can also give you guidance on this. You may also find a walking tour app for a self-guided tour, with maps and points of interest. You can GPS my city or check Detour. I found some walking tours on YouTube that were pretty fun to watch also. https://freewalkingtoursbylocals.com/ Today's destination: Chattanooga, Tennessee My first visit here was in 1974, on a bus of young women heading to Florida. It was called Junior Trip. We were 80 women, two bus loads. I remember very little about Chattanooga from that visit. I returned to see it in 2024, which made a more significant impression. This time, I was visiting the future Dr. Travelbest, who lives there now. We are currently working on a Planner for travel guidance, so look for that in the future. It's a central travel hub, especially for the railroads. A bridge crosses the railroad tracks, which are dozens of tracks wide. It may be one of the largest railroad hubs that I have experienced. You can see the city and the Moccasin Bend from the infamous Lookout Mountain. Listen to the episode on Chickamauga to learn about President Abraham Lincoln's campaign to gain control of the South in the 1860s. It was a place of both Confederate and Union victories. https://www.visitchattanooga.com/things-to-do/ https://www.visitchattanooga.com/plan/transportation/ The Zoo was a highlight, with a giraffe named George gladly accepting lunch from my hands to his 18-inch tongue. It seems that George loves romaine lettuce. Who would have guessed that? That experience was a treat. Kids like it, too. An assortment of other animals makes for a few hours of seeing wildlife at the Chattanooga Zoo. Walk across the Pedestrian Bridge and the riverfront along the Tennessee River to get a flavor of the city. I walked the bridge at night, and it was a sparkling river with no watercraft because the weather was rainy and threatened winds. The Northshore District has trendy boutiques, galleries, and food choices; you can walk everywhere. You can also learn much about the Civil War from an organized guided walking tour of the area. I did get to see the historic train station, the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Parts of the terminal building were recently sold, so check the show notes for the latest. https://www.local3news.com/local-news/preserve-chattanooga-sells-part-of-chattanooga-choo-choo-complex/article_a8d7781e-dbe5-11ee-abba-0b98f22b8f70.html I also enjoyed Ruby Falls and will create a special episode about that destination soon. On my next visit, I plan to Explore the Tennessee Aquarium and dive into the fascinating world of marine life at one of the top-rated aquariums in the country. From river otters to penguins, the Tennessee Aquarium showcases various aquatic animals. I did a few hikes on this trip, but most of the days, it rained, so I will return and hike more. Chattanooga is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. You can go hiking on nearby trails like Stringers Ridge or Raccoon Mountain or try rock climbing at the Tennessee Wall, if you have that talent, or just go and watch the climbers. Next time I come, I may also Attend a Performance at the Tivoli Theatre: Catch a show at the beautifully restored Tivoli Theatre, which hosts concerts, Broadway shows, and ballets. My last item on the next time list is to Relax at Coolidge Park: Spend a leisurely afternoon at Coolidge Park, located along the riverfront. Picnic in the grass, ride the antique carousel, or simply enjoy the scenic views. Today's Misstep- Getting stopped by TSA security How did I know that carrying a squash in my bag would keep me from getting through security the first time? It took an extra five minutes to get my bag checked. And then I did it again. I brought a squash on a second trip, and TSA stopped me for a short while Next time, don't bring fresh squash on the trip in your carry on. Today's Travel Advice- Plan for the unexpected. There's no such thing as being fully prepared, so prepare for what could happen, and in your mind how you may deal with that. Welcome back to another episode of #GetSome Okay I messed up. I forgot to tell the story about my brother last week, but you're in luck because I get into that and how my brother might have been the worst drug dealer ever. This past weekend I was awarded at my highschool and I made the “Hall Of Achievement”. I got to catch up with some old friends and I even get into how I knew it was time to end the relationship with my stepdad. Have you ever drank a milkshake and felt bad about it? Well, if so you're in luck because I have too! Also what's going on with these comedy beefs? I close us off with a hilarious story about how I performed for an empty theater in Chattanooga Tennessee. Hope you enjoyed this episode! See yall next week!! ................................................................... #GetSome is a weekly podcast hosted by comedian and actor Gary Owen.
