Althea's 24 Hour Challenge I want you to make 10 sales calls in the next 24 hours, 10 calls. I want to give you some guidelines around it, because I know you can do this, I want you to take one of your best-selling offers. And I want you to think back to your past clients, prospective clients, people who you see online, who just light you up, whom you would love to work with. I want you to write down their names, write down their contact information, and I want you to pick up the phone and invite them to learn about this offer that you believe will help them. Now it's really important that you truly believe it will help them. And the goal is to have a conversation with them, not to leave it on their voice message, but to really have a conversation with them, and hear what their goals are, what challenges they're coming up with. And if you truly, truly believe that you can help them share how, with this offer. This is what I'm inviting you to do in the next 24 hours. I want you to embrace it with your sales courage, knowing that your gifts are valuable, that people are praying about your services right now that they are in so much pain, they don't know what to do, and they're praying and hoping and wishing that “someone” i.e., YOU will provide a solution to their problem. You can't get this wrong, you will absolutely make money. Will you get some NO's? Probably. That's okay. Because NO's are not personal. What this is about is you getting outside of your sales comfort zone about you taking a leadership role, and inviting people to solve their problem for good. So that's your challenge. I'm so excited for you, you can absolutely do this. If you want to make more money then this is a route that will help you. She works together to discover your zone of genius, overcome limiting beliefs, adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, increase your visibility, set you and your business up for success, and create work that you love!   Elyane is so passionate about helping women to lean into support and have that be the new normal. Here are some of my most favorite and powerful take-aways from our conversation: Having it all doesn't mean doing it all! It's time to rewire ourselves and realize that we're not meant to do everything ourselves (yes, talking to you, dear passionate achieving woman!) Use this new mantra instead, to overcome feeling shame with needing support, "Support IS Sexy!" (love that) For those of you entrepreneurs, you'll probably agree that this path is the greatest journey of personal development and opportunity to learn how to say yes to support. Whether you own a business, run a family or work for someone else, you were never meant to do everything on our own. Stress and feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders can lead to health issues, getting support is one of the best ways to allow your body to heal and feel more freedom.    As an inspirational speaker, she helps ambitious women get over what I call "I Got It” Syndrome, make empowered tasks and embrace support as your superpower.   She's spoken at the UN, LinkedIn, Columbia, NYU, Spelman, Howard University, the Women's President's Organization, the Essence Festival and ColorComm, and she has led more than 200 workshops and panels in the U.S., Europe, Africa and online. I've also appeared as a featured guest on the "Today" show, "Nightline," "Extra," “Inside Edition,” CNN, VH1, BET, Sirius XM and many more. (elayneflukerspeaks.com)   As host of her podcast, “Support is Sexy” — which has has more than 750,000 downloads and reaches listeners in 130 countries — she's personally interviewed more than 500 diverse women entrepreneurs around the world and shared their inspiring stories. This episode is packed full of quotes that I love from Shelley such as “It's not going to fix itself, we have to actively close one door and open another. If we keep talking about things and admiring the problems we will continuously widen the gaps.” We discuss the zig zag path that got Shelley to where she is today. The things that made her who she is, her parents who she describes as incredible role models. From a father, the adventurer who encouraged Shelley and her sisters to live in the moment and experience everyday with wonder and curiosity. To a mother who taught all of the girls to believe in themselves and to have confidence. Shelley describes her upbringing as being ‘remarkable' and all about ‘values'. The result of which being she lives her life with a no regret policy to life – no should of, would of, could of. Believing in saying yes or no to things but never saying you don't care about something. “Do everything you do with purpose and passion.”  Zalis is an admired speaker and member of the Washington Speakers Bureau. She is a skilled moderator who has interviewed influencers such as Katie Couric, Halle Berry, Sheryl Sandberg, Gabrielle Union, and Arianna Huffington on the subject of equality and leadership. Zalis authors a Forbes column that mentors women in the “messy middle” and helps them reach the next level in their careers. She is co-founder of #SeeHer, a movement led by the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) to increase the percentage of accurate portrayals of women and girls in advertising and media, and sits on the board of directors for MAKERS and ColorComm. For more about the Female Quotient and the amazing work they do go to:https://www.thefemalequotient.comIf you are curious about who you are, your brain and the influences in your life then please dip into my most recent book Mirror Thinking – How Role Models Make Us Human. https://bit.ly/MirrorUSACanhttps://bit.ly/MirrThinkOr my award winning first book Defining You – How to Profile Yourself and Unlock Your Full Potential https://amzn.to/2lFMwOrhttp://bit.ly/DefiningYou  Follow on:Instagram: www.instagram.com/fiona_murdenTwitter: https://twitter.com/fionamurdenFacebook: https://facebook.com/fionamurden

Almost ten years ago, Lauren Wesley Wilson was aiming to climb the ad agency corporate ladder. But she was deterred; she didn’t see anyone who looked like her. No African American, LatinX or Asian men or women in leadership roles.  So, she began a series of luncheons in her town of Washington, DC, “to bring together people of color in our industry because so many of us in the space were feeling isolated and alone...and we didn't have a community to call on as it relates to new business or getting promoted or how to navigate corporate America. Those series of luncheons became ColorComm, Inc., a national platform to advance women of color in business, now nine years and nine cities strong, with thousands of members. And, participants include names like Gayle King, Gloria Steinem,  Bozoma Saint John, and  Shelley Zalis. Some of the leading brands in media and marketing are  sponsors -- from MWW and Edelman PR agencies, to Coke, Nike, ViacomCBS, Comcast and Publicis Groupe. In this conversation with media journalist and podcast host, E.B. Moss, Wilson talked about the strides made, the ongoing challenges for people of color, and the business imperative for the industry to include them.  Highlights: On Data: "There's so much data out there, but it's about action and execution. Where I see companies fail are those companies that don't line-item a budget around changing this landscape. They spent all their money to get the data, but they haven't allocated money for change." On Action Items:  "People of color in the agency, marketing and advertising space is such a small percent. So, if a company  looks at its numbers and sees just a handful of people there, they need to set them up for advancement. But it’s two-fold: the individual working in the company oftentimes doesn't have the skills to know what to do. And that's why organizations like ColorComm exist, to train you, to give you the tools and resources and professional development and skills to understand your role within your company." Get all her thoughts and recommendations on thriving through diversity and inclusion, and how ColorComm is helping everyone step up by listening to the full episode.

Hello listeners! Welcome back to Tech Forward. On this week’s episode, I’m speaking with Lauren Wesley Wilson, President and CEO of ColorComm, Inc. From its humble beginnings as a luncheon in 2011 for women of color in the communications industry, ColorComm has grown into a professional community of over 40 thousand women. Lauren is also a Contributor to Forbes and has a column which covers women of color in business. Today on the show, we’ll be talking about her journey launching and growing ColorComm, and the state of affairs for women in communication and tech. Despite the fact that the communications industry is female dominated — women make up 70% of the workforce in that space — the executive leadership positions are overwhelmingly held by men. When their careers stall, many talented women end up leaving the industry for higher paying jobs in other sectors. In an effort to change this, ColorComm offers a variety of programs and services for members, including panel discussions on how women of color can lean in, financial funding, and business development. ColorComm is active in 7 cities with members all over the country, and teams within each city to manage and execute these programs. Companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Google partner with ColorComm in order to diversify their hiring and retention. With their massive talent pool, it’s easy for ColorComm to push back against the false and pervasive narrative of the pipeline problem. “We say, ‘Here are the people you say you can’t find.’ [...] And while our partners are really focused on increasing diversity, a lot of people just aren’t sure what to do. No one group has the answer as far as diversifying companies. People who want a more diverse workforce need to invest in it.” When it comes to the progression of ColorComm over the last 7 years, Lauren stresses the importance of being willing to evolve in order to succeed. “We built this organization by listening to people’s needs, the challenges they faced, and being open to changing things. We started one way, but those needs have changed since we started 7 years ago.” Another key component to success has been the feeling of a mutually beneficial community, where senior members learn from junior members, not just vice versa. This sense of community has also been key to Lauren’s own professional journey. “Everything I’ve shared, I learned from having conversations with other people who’ve done these things before. [...] Speak up, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Asking for help doesn’t mean that what you do isn’t good enough. ” She echoes this sentiment when offering advice for women of color looking to enter or advance in a male dominated environment. “Build your resources both internally and externally. Hiring and promoting are collective decisions — cultivate relationships with people who can advocate on your behalf when it’s time to move upwards.” Lauren, thank you so much for sharing your story and your insights on the show this week. As ColorComm continues to grow their offering, it will be so exciting to see where the future takes you. Thank you, also, to all of my listeners.
