This week we take a look at the studio catalog of 90's band Slaughter. Formed in 1988 by ex Vinnie Vincent Invasion members Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum, the duo recruited guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias before getting to work on their 1990 debut album 'Stick it to Ya.' Riding high on the success of singles such as 'Up All Night' and 'Fly to the Angels,' the album sold well and secured the band a slot on KISS' 'Hot in the Shade' tour. 1992's followup album 'The Wild Life' would show solid sales but telltale signs of a tide shift in the music business. Without major label backing, Slaughter would go on to release 3 albums for independent label CMC Records; 1995's 'Fear No Evil,' 1997's 'Revoluion,' and 1999's 'Back to Reality.' Mark Slaughter would go on to record two solo albums; 2015's 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror' and 2017's 'Halfway There' but Slaughter remains out of the studio. Will that change? Only time will tell. This week we pick our "best" and "worst" song from each Slaughter studio album. Joining us this time is Marc Alden Taylor of the Free Form Rock podcast. Most people are familiar with the actor, Sean Penn. His older brother, Michael Penn went in a more musical direction, becoming a singer, songwriter, and producer. His debut album, March, would achieve both critical and commercial success, peaking on the US album charts at number 31. This would be his most successful album commercially, though his follow-up albums were received positively by the critics.Manhattan native Michael Penn was the first son of actor/director Leo Penn and actress Eileen Ryan. He began his musical journey in junior high school, and joined the Los Angeles band Doll Congress before embarking on a solo career. He appeared as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 1987 when his younger brother Sean was the host. He would garner attention, however in 1989 with his debut album, March. It would earn him the 1990 MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, and its first single "No Myth" would rise to number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Michael Penn would go on to marry singer-songwriter Aimee Mann (who fronted the new wave group 'Til Tuesday) in 1997. The couple are still together and living in Los Angeles. Rob brings us this singer-songwriter because he has created interesting songs with clever lyrics, and his underrated status may indicate that our listeners haven't heard his music beyond his first single. We hope you enjoy this artist and perhaps discover some music from the late 80's that you haven't heard before - or haven't heard in a while. No MythThis is the first and most successful single from the album. It made it to number 5 on the Mainstream Rock charts and number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is about a guy who is rejected by a girl even though he knows he could make her happy. “We said goodbye before hello, my secrets she will never know, and if I dig a hole to China I'll catch the first junk to Soho.”Half HarvestThe second song on the album is an understated deeper cut that sounds like a break-up song, or a tune about faded romance. “So move out of your bed of roses, now. I'm putting in a bed of nails.”Brave New WorldThis is a jangle pop, rockabilly song with great harmonies and fast-paced lyrics. It ends with a jazz jam and we feel it has a road trip feel in the lyrics as the singer drives into the brave new world. This & ThatThis single hit number 10 on the Modern Rock charts, and also has a quick lyric cadence. “I'll do this and I'll do that, I'll be burning canyons for you. I'll do this and I'll do that and I will wait forever if you'll be there.” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Hymn to Red October (from the motion picture The Hunt for Red October)Sean Connery takes the lead in the first of the Tom Clancy books to hit the big screen. The idea of a defecting Soviet sub was a compelling concept in the late 80's, well before the communist government fell apart. STAFF PICKS:Cuts You Up by Peter Murphy Bruce's staff pick went to number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, but dominated the then-new Billboard Alternative Songs chart, spending seven weeks at number 1 on that chart. Peter Murphy was the lead singer of the group Bauhaus, which gave us the song “Bela Lugosi's Dead.” Murphy and guitarist Paul Statham wrote this song which is about how the path of self-knowledge and discovery will ruin your assumptions, keeping you from getting arrogant.I Go to Extremes by Billy JoelLynch reminds us that things tend to go awry when musician Billy Joel writes a song for his wife. Indeed Joel's relationship with Christie Brinkley would come to an end in 1994 after it inspired this song that was a single from his album Stormfront. The idea of this song is a recognition that Joel can be compared to a roller coaster of emotion. Up All Night by Slaughter Wayne brings us a hair band hit from the peak of “big hair.” Las Vegas, based Slaughter is named after vocalist and guitarist Mark Slaughter who formed the band in 1988 with bassist Dana Strum. The band is completed by guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias. The song is pretty much the anthem of the hair bands - up all night, sleep all day. Baby, It's Tonight by Jude Cole Rob finishes the staff picks with singer-songwriter, manager, and producer Jude Cole. He has a sound similar to John Waite, and started with the band Lifehouse. Cole also started a record label called Iron Works with actor Kiefer Sutherland. This song made it to number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. COMEDY TRACK:As Kosher As They Wanna Be by 2 Live Jews Oy Vey! I hope we don't get cancelled for this comedy track which was on the charts at the time.
Red and Jerry talk to Dana Strum and Mark Slaughter about their show at Madison's Brat Fest. This is the full interview. It was edited for time on the radio shows.
Slaughter comes to Smugglers Run in Wyandotte, Michigan this coming Saturday, but first, Mark Slaughter talked to me. It's been a while since Mark's been on Talkin' Rock, so it was great to get him on to talk about everything they have going on. He told me about the band, along with Dana Strum and Jeff "Blando" they're bringing drummer, Jordon Cannata. He's the young gun in he band as Mark explained. "What a great player! Young kid, he was born....on the day that our first record was put out." He talked about the many times Slaughter has played the Detroit area, including his first time through the Motor City with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. "We did two nights with Alice Cooper, this is in 1986, where we opened up and played Hell Night and Halloween, opening for Alice Cooper." Those shows were at the legendary Cobo Hall. He mentioned some possible new music coming down the pike. "It doesn't take us long to write the songs, it's just about getting us in the same room." We talked about drummer Blas Elias "Blas is and always will be a big part of the band." We talked about a possible upcoming bio-pic and what he's discovered that will be a part of that. He talks about his life in Tennessee and why he's there. He told a crazy story about a trip to Lima, Peru earlier this year. That story is nuts! Oh, and bodyguards ripping seats out of rental cars...yeah, you read that right. See you guys at the show this Saturday! -Meltdown https://www.slaughterusa.com/ https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

Tyler & Dave speak with former Lucha Underground / WWE referee Marty Elias. His journey began in the 1980's, where Marty was on the world-famous Sunset Strip hanging out with the likes of Guns N Roses, Poison, Warrant, Great White and his all time favorite band Motley Crue! Marty eventually worked for Blitzkrieg a local 1985 LA band. Marty has also worked with Slaughter and Dana Strum since then. In the early 80's Marty was introduced to the world of professional wrestling. He has worked with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker! Marty is known for being the official for what many consider to be the greatest match in WrestleMania history: The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25. Later, Marty moved on to Hollywood and worked for Robert Rodriquez on the El Rey Network show Lucha Underground. After four seasons Lucha Underground wasn't renewed, thus leading him to GLOW on Netflix and other TV productions such as Good Girls, The Ultimate Surfer, Dolemite Is My Name, and The Voice. The Rock and Metal Profs: The History and Philosophy of Rock and Metal
Former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent burst onto the rock scene in 1983 when he was announced as Ace Frehley's replacement. With lightning-fast fret work coupled with a gift for songwriting, he wrote and performed some of KISS's most memorable songs of the early 1980s. Sadly, his tenure in KISS was short-lived -- he was kicked out of the band after just 2 years. His solo career was similarly erratic. After just two albums, The Vinnie Vincent Invasion imploded when vocalist Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum left the band to create "Slaughter", the massively successful hair metal act of the late-80s. Then, Vinnie Vincent vanished...for nearly 25 years! Vincent's compelling story is shrouded in mystique and tragedy. This episode was requested by listener Scott Carnegie! We appreciate the recommendation!

La banda alcanzó el estrellato en 1990 con su primer álbum Stick It to Ya , que generó varios sencillos de éxito como " Up All Night ", "Spend My Life", "Mad About You" y "Fly to the Angels". ". # 19), y los éxitos moderados "Up All Night" (EE.UU. # 27) y "Spend My Life "(Estados Unidos # 39). UU. Blando estuvo anteriormente en Left For Dead y Saigon Kick . El álbum de VH-1 "Power Ballads" incluyó "Fly To The Angels"; "Up All Night" se incluyó en Rhino Records"Golpeadores duros".

Ideal Para Llevarte O Regalar Productos Del Podcats De Ivoox. A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. Frustrado, DuBrow empieza a mandar cartas a bandas metaleras nuevas en Los Ángeles sabiendo que su éxito era en parte debido a su éxito "ennow that their success was in part owed to the past successes of Quiet Riot". La banda lanzó Down to the Bone ese mismo año. Guns / Brides of Destruction.

I think Hell has officially frozen over! This episode is a long time coming and I hope it will inform people that have always wondered "What the hell happened to Vinnie Vincent?" The show begins with a quick recap of how I had the seedling of an idea of finding out what happened to Vinnie Vincent and turning it into a writing project. What began as a quick idea that would make an interesting magazine article snowballed when I received so much information from so many angles that I began to entertain thoughts of turning the story into a book.......then, I got realistic. A book at this point in time about a recluse guitarist who's 15 minutes of fame ended in the 1980's just wasn't practical; no matter how much I loved his music, songwriting, and intriguing story. I launched the Decibel Geek podcast when I remembered how much fun it was to interview some of the people that I grew up listening to and artists of today that I dig. I had already conducted some interviews for the Vinnie Vincent project at the time and figured I could use some of those and add some new ones for a big episode on Vinnie. Little did I know at the time that Vinnie Vincent was about to be a public figure again in a big way; not one of his own choosing. From seemingly out of nowhere, Vinnie Vincent appeared on TMZ due to being arrested for a domestic violence episode with his wife. Within 24 hours his mug shot was all over the place; the first photo seen of him in almost 7 years! The 2 years that I've spent researching this troubled virtuoso's history has been uplifting at times (when discovering his music post-KISS) and depressing at others. This episode of the Decibel Geek Podcast seeks to give a glimpse into what some of Vinnie's peers over the years have experienced working with KISS' former Ankh Warrior and provides me with a chance to speak as a voice of the fans who are trying to navigate this strange situation. Joining me in part 1 of this Vinnie Vincent Special are former WASP, Steeler, & SIN bassist Rik Fox who shares with me his shock at, what he claims, was his song being ripped off by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion shortly after letting Vinnie and band mate Dana Strum listen to his demo and the icy reception he received when trying to settle the dispute. Also joining me is Keli Raven, a veteran Los Angeles musician that was breaking into the scene back in 1991 and worked with Vinnie Vincent on the still-unreleased Guitars from Hell album. Raven also was involved with some of the music for writing sessions for KISS' Revenge album and was witness to Gene Simmons & Vinnie Vincent's creative process. Unfortunately, Keli states that Vinnie continuously lived up to a bad reputation that he had built by that time. This episode is just the tip of the iceberg and will leave you wanting to hear more (we hope!). Part 1 of the Vinnie Vincent Special is your ticket to a behind the scenes look at one of the most intriguing rock personalities of the 1980's. Get ready for an audio Invasion! - Chris Czynszak
