First up, we've got Alex Cooper, the queen of the Call Her Daddy empire, making headlines again with her latest move. She's signed a mega-deal with SiriusXM, and when I say mega, I mean MEGA. We're talking a cool $100-125 million over just three years. Yep, you heard that right. Alex is moving on from Spotify and bringing her Daddy Gang over to SiriusXM, where she'll continue to dish out that no-holds-barred content we all know and love. And let's not forget, this deal isn't just about the money—although, let's be real, that's a big part of it—it's about Alex expanding her empire with her Unwell Audio Network. The Daddy Gang is about to get a whole lot bigger, and I'm here for it. Now, speaking of drama, Anna Delvey—yes, the infamous fake heiress—is back in the news, and this time, she's got some beef with Whoopi Goldberg and the ladies of The View. After Whoopi made a comment about Delvey still owing people money, our girl Anna wasn't having it. She's demanding an apology, claiming she paid everyone back years ago. And as if that's not enough, she's about to strut her stuff on Dancing with the Stars—ankle monitor and all. The saga of Anna Delvey continues, and honestly, it's the reality TV drama we didn't know we needed. But wait, there's more. Former President Donald Trump has officially entered the TikTok chat, and he's making some bold claims. According to Trump, if you want to save TikTok in America, you better vote for him. That's right, folks. In this bizarre twist of 2024 politics, Trump is now positioning himself as the savior of everyone's favorite time-wasting app. Meanwhile, Vice President Harris is giving him a run for his money, having gained 5 million followers since she jumped on the TikTok bandwagon. And here's the kicker—a recent poll shows young voters are flipping faster than a pancake on a hot griddle, now favoring Harris over Trump by 13 points. The fight for TikTok is real, and it's bringing out all the stops in this election. So, what do we make of all this? On one hand, we've got Alex Cooper leveling up in the podcasting game, Anna Delvey demanding receipts, and Trump making TikTok the latest battleground in the 2024 election. On the other hand, I think we all need a moment to just breathe—because it's only September, and things are already getting wild. Join me as I unpack all these stories with a side of sarcasm, a dash of disbelief, and maybe a sprinkle of “what the actual…?” Because if there's one thing I've learned this week, it's that nothing—and I mean nothing—should surprise us anymore. Catch all the tea on today's episode, and as always, don't forget to like, subscribe, and share the madness with your friends. Until next time, stay curious, stay skeptical, and most importantly, stay tuned. Peace! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/what-are-we-doing-pod/support

* Milovníci a milovníčky Mimózy, tu nás môžete podporiť: https://www.patreon.com/mimozalovers * Príjemné počúvanie!

This is one of our BIOPSY episodes where instead of a documentary, we watch a ripped-from-the-headlines fictional account of a true story. Today we're covering the Shonda Rhimes Netflix hit Inventing Anna. Anna Sorokin, who went by the Mae up persona of Anna Delvey, was convicted of larceny in 2019. Delvey rose through New York's social strata and convinced many institutions and people to loan her money with a fake German heiress backstory, and this nine part miniseries dramatizes the saga with Julia Garner playing Delvey And our guest is comedian and musician Luna Malbroux, who fuses her experience as a skilled facilitator and educator of justice, equity, inclusion, diversity in all of her creative endeavors. She works in a number of genres from turning the documentary experience Mapping Privilege into an award winning play, How to Be A White Man, To blending jazz, comedy, and storytelling with her band, The Moon and The Man. This week, neither of our stories have murder or ghosties. Major shock. Honestly.Anna enjoyed the lavish and luxurious things in life (this girl is my spirit animal), even if it meant sabotaging ‘friends' credit scores (ok, maybe not). She definitely had a flair for fashion but her bank account definitely did not, including the Swiss one she didn't actually own. There was also a Methodist Church in the bustling town of Gary, Indiana that managed to survive the Great Depression and World War II (in terms of congregation and attendance). Mostly funded by U.S. Steel and a man named Elbert Gary (you guessed it), 9-stories of epic architecture has fallen to ruins.-I double dog dare you to click the follow button!Check us out on the dot coms! Then, in the Mailbag segment, the anchors examine: (a) Florida's proposed “don't say gay” bill as an amendment to that state's “Parent Bill of Rights” law and what this SCOTUS may do about it; (b) Palin's libel case and its implications for a suit by Hillary against Fox News; and (d) Kyle Rittenhouse's new “foundation” to provide litigation funding for defamation suits against the media and Democratic celebrities.

It was the winter of 2017 in NYC, and German fashionista Anna Delvey checked into a stylish new hotel in Soho for a lengthy high-flying stay she could never afford. It was the beginning of an enormous web of lies and promises she had no way of keeping. Truth told, she wasn't German nor was she a Delvey. She was the Russian-born middle-class Anna Sorokin, a brilliant con-artist from a fake uber-rich family jet-set on defrauding New York's wealthy elite, hotels and banks of enormous piles of cash. And as with all fraudsters, eventually they get caught. In this podcast we'll get into a fascinating story of a fraudster like no other. Sorokin confirms that she was paid $320,000 by Netflix for her story and says she has been offered other deals, so her jail time wasn’t without financial gain. Kathleen reads of the indulgence that Sorokin partook in prior to her sentencing, including champagne brunches lasting hours. Kathleen then tells a story about a champagne lunch that she had in New York with her friend Christa that ended in an enormous nap.ELIZABETH HOLMES BABY DRAMA: As a follow up to Episode 13, Kathleen updates listeners that Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has requested that her trial be postponed because she is pregnant. The artwork carries a pre-sale estimate of approximately £3,000,000 and all proceeds will go to England’s National Health Service. If you live in Oregon beware of bees/wasps/yellow jackets, Pennsylvania has a massive dog problem, and Rhode Island lists black widow spiders as their leading animal killer. DRINKS ON A VOLCANO: Kathleen is fascinated by all-natural wonders, and advises listeners that the Hawaii Volcano Observatory recorded over 200 small magnitude earthquakes below volcano Mauna Loa last week. These and other observations of increased activity all point to an increased flow of magma into the volcano’s shallow storage system, and denote that Mauna Loa is slowly waking up for a massive eruption. Kathleen then describes a dinner that she had at the top of Mauna Loa while visiting the Big Island a few years ago, dining at The Rim restaurant. DISCOUNT MURDER-FOR-HIRE: Kathleen’s home at Lake of the Ozarks does her proud when she reads an article about realtor Leigh Ann Bauman, who paid an undisclosed hitwoman $1,500 to try and eliminate her former mother-in-law, according to the probable cause document for Bauman’s arrest and charging.Bauman, a well-known real estate agent at Lake of the Ozarks, is facing a Class C Felony charge of Conspiracy To Commit Murder. If convicted, she would spend 3–10 years in prison. Kathleen provides her own commentary about the agreed-upon price for the hit, as well as the fact that police released Bauman for a window of time to attend a botox appointment prior to her finishing her criminal interview.MISSOURI PREACHER’S PERFECT WOMAN: Kathleen laughs in dismay as she reads an article from Southern Missouri about a recent sermon given by a Baptist preacher that contained sexist and misogynistic content. Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark of Missouri's Malden First General Baptist Church said in his Sunday sermon that women should look to maintain their figures and lose weight in order to keep their husband's attention. He also used a photo of former First Lady Melania Trump as an example of what women should aspire to. 118-YEAR-OLD TORCH BEARER: Kathleen is thrilled to read an announcement that a 118-year-old Japanese woman, Kane Tanaka, will carry the Olympic torch this summer at the Tokyo Olympics. Kathleen recommends pouring a large glass of wine, turning up the song, and not driving.MURDEROUS ROYAL CLOWNS: Kathleen laughs out loud at a recent (and brilliant) article from the Irish Times sifting through the wake of the Oprah interview with Meghan and Harry. She feels strongly that the only way that a listener can truly appreciate the intent of the article is to read it in its entirety ;-) WHAT TO WATCH THIS WEEK: Kathleen recommends watching “Everest: Beyond The Limit” on Amazon Prime, “Nomadland” on Hulu, and never watching “I Care A Lot” on Netflix (although she’s a massive fan of the actors in that movie.)

She announces that she will continue mourning the loss of Second Baseman Kolten Wong from her St. Louis Cardinals to the Milwaukee Brewers until Spring Training. Kathleen’s primary queen Dolly Parton has asked Tennessee lawmakers to withdraw a bill that would erect a statue of her on the capitol grounds in Nashville, noting that in the current state of the world she feels as though their attention could be better spent elsewhere, but appreciates the gesture. Dolly has also confirmed that she will appear in a cameo in her friends’ Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s Netflix show Grace and Frankie, which will reunite the trio onscreen for the first time since their 80’s smash “9 to 5.”BANKSY NOTTINGHAM MURAL PURCHASED: In continuing with Episode 12, Kathleen announces that Essex art dealer John Brandler has purchased the Banksy “Girl With Hula Hoop” mural from the home owners where the mural currently resides in Nottingham. FEDERAL RESERVE MAKES ROOM FOR DeFi: Kathleen is thrilled that the Federal Reserve Bank in St. Louis is formally reviewing Ethereum-based decentralized finance (DeFi.) The Fed’s report comes with warnings about smart contract security, scalability and other risk factors involved in this revolutionary type of investment, but also touts the exciting opportunities and potential that is on the horizon. Kathleen purchases more Ethereum via her Coinbase app, and relates the simplicity and high risk of Cryptocurrency investment to buying $20 scratch-off tickets. Sorokin was born in Russia and raised in Germany, and through a series of conniving events ended up in NYC presenting herself as a rogue German heiress and conning numerous banks (including Citi Bank) and many wealthy and connected friends and acquaintances out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Kathleen reviews the interests of all parties connected to Delvey, and in anticipation of the upcoming Netflix and HBO movies about Delvey she recommends listening to the BBC’s 6-episode podcast series “Fake Heiress.” As Delvey was released from prison February 2021, Kathleen is following her “Anna Delvey Diaries” to track her whereabouts and determine her next moves, which will most likely follow her established path of deceit. 90-YEAR-OLD BUYS WSJ ADS TO GET AT&T’S ATTENTION: Kathleen laughs reading an article about 90-year-old North Hollywood resident Aaron Epstein, a loyal AT&T customer since 1960. Being frustrated with the speed of his internet service and getting nowhere with AT&T’s customer service, he spent $10K and placed two ads in the Wall Street Journal on Feb. 3 to vent his frustrations.MATTRESS MACK: Kathleen has been following the activities of Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale for weeks now, both with his Super Bowl LV bet taking Tom Brady and his Bucs in the under, and last week as Winter Storm Uri swept Texas and the entire state lost power. McIngvale opened his furniture stores for Houstonians seeking shelter when shelters were overrun, and Kathleen (and her mom) can’t say enough about his generous spirit. Reports out of Miami note that the estate has received interest from several unnamed buyers. However, the attorney general of the U.S. Virgin Islands is currently in a legal dispute with Epstein’s estate over his property, so no sale is expected to close anytime soon. She also HIGHLY recommends “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” on Hulu.MYSTERY OF THE WEEK: Kathleen reviews the mystery of the South Dakota Attorney General, Jason Ravnsborg, who hit and killed a man with his car while returning from a Republican Party dinner and no other details have been released. Ravnsborg has not been arrested, and residents of South Dakota’s Hyde County are demanding answers.
This week we brought you another SCAM themed episode! Nathalie starts off with the case of the phony heiress, Anna Sorokin. Anna went by the name Anna Delvey and pretended to have an insanely large trust fund. Anna would get away with staying in extremely fancy hotels, promising a payment that would never actually show up. Her reign as a fake heiress did not last long and in 2017 she was arrested on 6 counts of grand larceny. Although Anna is currently in prison, her story is being adapted by Shonda Rhimes for a Netflix special. Rachel then tells the story of “psychic” Sylvia Browne, recommended by her sister (shout out to Becca!). Sylvia was regularly featured on the Montel Williams. Before joining the show, Sylvia had become quite popular on her own. She would perform psychic readings that would cost her callers upwards of $750 per session. While on the Montel Williams show, Sylvia got herself in some hot water after more than a few incorrect predictions. Sylvia informed families that their missing children were dead when they were actually alive and vice versa. Although Sylvia was never criminally charged for her inaccurate readings, she had been arrested for fraud charges before her stint on reality TV. Sylvia had passed away at the age of 77, but a passage from one of her books was shared by the Kardashian family in 2020. In this excerpt, she predicted a pneumonia-like illness would spread throughout the world. While it seemed like one of her predictions had finally come true, she also predicted it would disappear almost as quickly as it arrived. As we are all entering almost a full year of the pandemic, I think we can safely say that Sylvia got it wrong again. Anna Sorokin is a Russian Immigrant. Her father was a truck driver in Russia who later ran a heating and cooling business in Germany. Sorokin moved to Paris for an internship at Purple magazine and then moved to New York in 2014. From here she began to embed herself in high society. She wasn't as rich as many of the people in her social circle so she began to run a scam to trick banks and shops into paying for a more extravagant lifestyle. She began telling people that her name was Anna Delvey and that she was a German heiress so she could open a members only arts club on Park Avenue South. She told her friends that Delvey was her mother’s maiden name, which wasn’t true, and that her dad was a diplomat, oil executive or a solar panel magnate. She began buying expensive brands and living in fancy hotels. She would hired private planes and buy expensive gifts for her friends. She also met some members of high society. She became friend with Gabriel Andres Calatrava who is an architect and the son of famous architect. She nearly got him to agree to build her private club. She paid for all of this by getting loans from banks. City National Bank gave her 100,000$ and let her overdraft her account. With this money she went on a shopping spree at Apple and Net-a-Porter. All of this was going well until she took a trip to Morocco with one of her close friends, Rachel DeLoache Williams, who was a former Vanity fair editor and her friend. The two stayed in a five star resort and racked up a 62,000$ bill. When Sorokin’s card got decline she convince Williams to pay the bill, promising to pay her back. When Sorokin didn’t repay her Williams went to the police. Sorokin was first arrested in July 2017 for skipping out on thousands of dollars of bills at the Beekman and W New York hotels and a lunch bill of less than $200 at a restaurant at the Le Parker Meridien hotel. She was released but then arrested again in October. Before her trial Sorokin was offered a plea deal with a sentence of three to nine years in prison but she considered that too long and instead took her chances at trial. At her trial Williams, her friend, testified against her. The jury deliberated for only two days and, on April 25th 2019, returned a guilty verdict. She was found guilty on multiple fraud charges, including second-degree grand larceny and theft of services. She was, however, found not guilty on two other charges: one of two counts of attempted grand larceny, and one for allegedly stealing more than $60,000 from Williams. She was sentenced to four to twelve years in prison and ordered to pay almost $199,000 in restitution, as well as a fine of $24,000. During the trial Sorokin seemed unconcerned. The district attorney commented that she, "more seriously her clothing than anything else." Sorokin has not since expressed any sadness or remorse over her actions. She is quoted as saying: “The thing is, I’m not sorry. I’d be lying to you and to everyone else and to myself if I said I was sorry for anything. I regret the way I went about certain things.” After her release Sorokin hopes to move to London but will likely be deported to Germany. Williams is writing a book about her time with Sorokin and Netflix has acquired the right to a TV show on her.
Fueled by Coffee, the Caffiendz are at it again unraveling a popular story about a fake socialite and a over the top conspiracy!
With her oversized black sunglasses, Supreme athleisure, and Rimowa suitcase, Anna Delvey (real name Anna Sorokin) posed a German heiress and scammed hoteliers, influencers, NYC elite, and the damn SWISS BANK in order to social climb in Manhattan. Landing in 'Merica at the age of 28, Sorokin, the daughter of a former truck driver from Russia, migrated from Germany to the United States in 2014. After her arrival, she got a little creative with her backstory and recreated her entire identity, claiming to be a wealthy socialite, and the daughter of an oil baron...or a diplomat, depending on who asked. She got in with the NYC elite socialite scene and scored even more investment and clout by pretending to raise money to startup her own artsy social club. Anna was kicked out of the NYC scene and thrown into Rikers when her lies finally caught up to her, and her inner circle began to discover that the German heiress was really a broke scammer with good fashion taste. Delvey is now serving 4-12 years in jail and will be deported after her release. Both Lena Dunham and Shonda Rimes are creating shows based on Delvey's hot girl summer. This week we talk about about Delvey's whirlwind summer, the trip that cost her everything (and by her, we mean her friend who was left with the bill) and her infamous courtroom looks.
