We are back with main episodes in 2025 and we are beyond excited to get back into these conversations! We have always had requests to have more producers on and we started back with a great conversation with the founders of the Good Times Barrel Racing Association - Stacey Warner and Andre Dohrn. Both ladies have extensive knowledge of producing the very best events in our industry and their events have always been some of our favorite to cover on our Monday morning rundowns. This conversation gives a little insight into what producers have to do behind the scenes to put on successful events - thank you to all the producers that give us all places to run barrels! Today's episode is brought to our listeners thanks to Chewy! Chewy is your one stop horse shop, from feed and supplements, to supplies, medications, and more! Chewy.com/equine
Every aspect of life in our society is lived on the hard-edge of racial hierarchy and class division—and the American way of birth is no exception. Black maternal mortality is 69.9 per 100,000 live births, nearly 3 times the rate of white women—and that's only part of the story. We're delighted to be meeting up at Pilsen Community Books with my magnificent sister-in-law, Jennifer Dohrn—a legendary midwife in New York, and a professor and Assistant Dean of the Office of Global Initiatives at Columbia University School of Nursing—for a discussion focused on her new book Mothers, Midwives and Reimagining Birthing in the Bronx. Jennifer initiated the first freestanding maternity center in an inner-city in the US, and she has been extensively involved in women's health issues both here and internationally, notably in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Global South. Her book is an oral history of her ground-breaking center, as well as a deep dive into the racialized nature of maternal health care and a rousing cry for change.
This week's guest recently won the DuPont Columbia University Award for audio and visual journalism for his podcast, Mother Country Radicals, and now he's here to talk with me about The Mutant Massacre. Zayd Dohrn is an accomplishment playwright, film and tv writer, and a low key comic book nerd. This episode marks the first time that a crossover event is discussed instead of a single title. Find out why The Mutant Massacre had such an impact on Zayd in his youth and hear my spiel about why crossover events ruined mainstream comics. All this, plus an issue of Ann Nocenti's Daredevil! Here's a link to The Runs Comics Podcast on iTunes. And here's the link to the show on Spotify. Be sure to subscribe, rate and review! And here's a link if you'd like the stream the episode.

The guys have the great honor and joy of talking with the legendary Bernardine Dohrn on this episode of AirGo. Recorded on the land that she, her husband Bill Ayers, and five other families have communally stewarded for the last 40-plus years, Bernardine reflects on what she's learned about time, grief, transformation, liberation struggles, and love over a lifetime of battling imperialist white supremacy at an intensity few have ever experienced. We're so grateful for her time and love. SHOW NOTES If you're curious about Bernardine's story, we recommend the amazing podcast Mother Country Radicals, which tells the story of her involvement in radical movement and decades living underground through the eyes of her son Zayd. Zayd Dohrn was born underground and on the run from the FBI. His parents, Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, were leaders of the Weather Underground — a radical leftist group born in the 70s that declared war on the United States and fought alongside anti-war activists and Black Panthers. Zayd Dohrn‘s podcast Mother Country Radicals asks his parents hard questions about their storied and revolutionary past, including their role in the bombing at the Pentagon on May 19th, 1972. Dohrn tells host Jacoby Cochran while he was familiar with the chronology of his parent's history, the podcast opened his eyes to a side of his parents and the movement he never knew. The natural world is upfront and riveting in acclaimed wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn's MY GARDEN OF A THOUSAND BEES. Dohrn sets out to record all the bee species in his tiny urban garden in Bristol, England. Filming with one-of-a-kind lenses he forged at his kitchen table, he catalogs more than 60 different species, from Britain's largest bumblebees to scissor bees the size of a mosquito. Over long months, Dohrn observes how differences in behavior set different species apart. He eventually gets so close to the bees he can identify individuals by sight, documenting life at their level as we have never seen it before. Among the many amazing moments captured in My Garden of a Thousand Bees, are bees laying tiny eggs preparing for the next generation, green-fanged spiders feasting on male flower bees and a female yellow-faced bee attacking a Gasteruption wasp to protect her nest. Other fascinating behavior featured in the film includes two male bees fighting each other over a female, different species of bees competing over territory and one busy bee building a nest with a shell and hundreds of sticks. Intrigued by the intelligence of one particular wood-carving leafcutter bee, Dohrn dubs her “Nicky” and sees life at her level as she leaves a lasting legacy in the garden. Director and narrator Martin Dohrn (Age of Big Cats, Tera Mater) joins us for a conversation on his own fascination with bees, what inspired into this deep dive into their world and the fundamental importance of these inspiring creatures in sustaining human life. On today's episode we have playwright, screenwriter, and professor Zayd Ayers Dohrn. He recently wrote and hosted the new podcast Mother Country Radicals for Crooked Media. This podcast is an audio documentary about his parents Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers who were radical activists in an organization called the Weather Underground. Dohrn chronicles the lives of his parents and other weathermen and women as they live on the run from the FBI and take drastic action against the US Government. Zayd himself was born underground, and Mother Country Radicals evolves from a story about activists, into one about balancing dedication to a cause with family life. Bernadine Dohrn, Bill Ayers and several other members of the Weather Underground are staunchly dedicated to fighting for the goals of their organization—which as you will see from Zayd, are quite complicated—and this poses challenges as they start families. He speaks to several radicals on the podcast who pose different opinions on the acts they committed, and often, the violence that ensued. The period of time that Dohrn chronicles is not dissimilar from what we're seeing today. The revitalized Black Lives Matter movement, after the killing of George Floyd; the mobilization around the urgency of gun control; and most recently, the protests following the supreme court ruling about abortion rights; illustrate a galvanized and provoked public that wants to make their voices heard to affect change. Like most of Zayd's work, this conversation jumps between the personal and the political, and towards the end, our conversation turns towards the future, as he reflects on what successful public activism can look like in today's world. Zayd Ayers Dohrn was born underground. His parents, Bernadine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, were leaders of the Weather Underground, the militant group that formed in 1969 to ignite a revolution in the U.S. and fight American imperialism and racism, sometimes violently. The FBI called Bernadine Dohrn "the most dangerous woman in America." The group backed bombings of the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon and the Department of State to bring attention to their cause. The only fatalities were three members of the Weather Underground who died in 1970 while making bombs in a Greenwich Village townhouse.Zayd Ayers Dohrn, 45, spent the first five years of his life on the run while underground with his parents. He tells the story of the Weather Underground in a riveting award-winning 10-part podcast, “Mother Country Radicals.” Dohrn is a playwright and professor at Northwestern University.I asked Dohrn how the Weather Underground differed from the pro-Trump insurrectionists who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. “The Weathermen were actually fighting systemic racism and a genocidal war. The Jan. 6 insurrectionists are white nationalists fighting for an authoritarian president who was literally sitting in the White House at that moment,” Dohrn replied. The Jan. 6 insurrectionists “were not a grassroots movement resisting oppressive government. They were literally a sort of a fascist putsch that was trying to keep this authoritarian president in office, contravening a democratic election. So I think it matters that one group was fighting for racism, one group is fighting against racism.”Reflecting on how his parents and the Weather Underground changed the country, Dohrn said: “In a broad sense, the American antiwar movement helped end the war in Vietnam. There are some people who think that there were the good activists — the peaceful people marching in the streets — and then the bad activists who were doing more violent actions. I don't really see it that way. I think the Black Panthers, the Weather Underground, the Black Liberation Army were on the extreme edge of a vast and powerful movement that was fighting to end an unjust war in America. And I think all of the activists involved in that, the peace activists and the radical activists, can take some credit for ending that war.”
The Weather Underground spent nearly a decade combating the US government. From prison breaks to bombings of the Pentagon and the US Capitol, the 'Weathermen' used any means necessary to fight capitalism, end the Vietnam War, and struggle in solidarity with the Black Panthers and other organizations. A new podcast series created by Zayd Ayers-Dohrn, a child of the Weather Underground, looks back on the stories of the Weathermen and the history that made them. Zayd's parents, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, join the Marc Steiner Show along with their son to discuss the podcast, their lifelong journeys as radicals, and what those interested in social change today can learn from the successes, history, and mistakes of the Weather Underground.Tune in for new episodes of The Marc Steiner Show every Monday on TRNN.Pre-Production/Studio: Dwayne GladdenPost-Production: Stephen FrankHelp us continue producing The Marc Steiner Show by following us and becoming a monthly sustainer:Donate: https://therealnews.com/donate-pod-mssSign up for our newsletter: https://therealnews.com/nl-pod-stGet The Marc Steiner Show updates: https://therealnews.com/up-pod-stLike us on Facebook: https://facebook.com/therealnewsFollow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/therealnews

The Question by Henri Alleg is a short book with a lifelong impact on today's special guest. The legendary radical activist and movement lawyer, Bernardine Dohrn, first read this anti-war, anti-colonial, anti-racist pamphlet from 1958 as a student in high school. The Question recounts French journalist Henri Alleg's experience of thirty days of torture in Algeria during the War for Independence. Though it would be years before Bernardine began organizing and taking revolutionary direct action, this class assignment marked a radicalizing moment in her life. We were honored to have a conversation with this fierce feminist powerhouse about the roles that witnessing and storytelling play in ending the practice of torture. Listener's note: This episode contains descriptions of torture and violence. Please listen with care. See our transcript and key questions at thelitreview.org.

When Alice asks the Cheshire Cat which way she ought to go, the Cat responds, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.” Alice says she doesn’t much care where she goes, to which the Cat says, “Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.” We spend this episode exploring our radical dreams, and imagining where we’d like to go, accompanied by the music words of the radical poet, Martin Espada, and a conversation with the legendary activist, Bernardine Dohrn.
Ryan Dohrn is a globally recognized media revenue consultant who has helped newspapers, niche publications, broadcast stations and online publishers generate more than $500 million in new revenue. Recently, Dohrn and his company, 360 Ad Sales, reached out to media partners to send in their sales proposals that closed deals and those that did not. After analyzing the results, they learned what common factors helped gained orders and which ones failed to work. In this one-on-one interview with E&P publisher Mike Blinder, Dohrn reveals to the industry the results of the study as well as reviews the best tactics and practices he sees in order to continue to drive revenue through COVID-19.

Welcome to the House of Crouse. What do you call a group of directors? A herd? A swarm?I don't know. Since the cinema is my church perhaps I'll call my guests, "Arrival" helmer Denis Villeneuve and "Trolls" co-directors Walt Dohrn and Mike Mitchell a congregation of directors. Whatever you call it, it's two lively conversations about everything from how sci fi sparked a young boy's imagination to how the power of a positive attitude changed one director's life. C'mon in, sit a spell at the good 'ole HoC!
Once again, couldn't resist including this Pop Culture Club episode in the Director's Club feed due to the level of talent involved. And hey, they happen to be directors as well of course, and very good ones. The introduction finds me reflecting on baseball, The Cubs, and the city of Chicago which segways nicely into my first guest who is from the South Side. John McNaughton got his start early on in theater, and then collaborated with talented actors to make the truly disturbing HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER. Most of our conversation is about the making of that seminal horror film, but couldn't resist asking John about working with Bill Murray again as well. Secondly, I talked to Courtney Hunt who had a huge breakthrough success with FROZEN RIVER. Her latest films stars Keanu Reeves as a defense attorney who is struggling with the ethics of his position, all while trying to solve a murder case involving a young adult. I truly thought this film was a step-above most courtroom dramas so don't let that deter you from seeing it. Courtney made a lot of great points surrounding the theme of the reliability of memory as well as what it's like being a woman in the industry. Finally, the last of the conversations involves a duo -- the minds behind the latest animated sensation from Dreamworks, TROLLS. Lots of great songs and a few big laughs were had. This one is definitely going to bring a smile to your child's face. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with directors (and voice actors) Walt Dohrn & Mike Mitchell, the latter of which is also responsible for the underrated SKY HIGH. Essentially, you have a buffet of talent to listen to here, and I promise there isn't a dull moment. Enjoy this special episode along with many more to come! 00:00 - 11:03 - Introduction / World Series 11:04 - 35:33 - John McNaughton Interview (HENRY) 35:34 - 52:00 - Courtney Hunt Interview (THE WHOLE TRUTH) 52:01 - 01:06:16 - Mike Mitchell & Walt Dohrn (TROLLS) 01:06:17 - 01:08:00 - Outro My review of THE WHOLE TRUTH: http://popcultureclub.net/reviews/wholetruth Please visit: http://nowplayingnetwork.net

Wake up America With each passing day, it becomes more apparent than ever that the America of our fathers and our grandfathers is gone forever. Dramatic signs of moral decline leap from the headlines on a daily basis now, and all of these signs lead to one inescapable conclusion: America is in trouble. There's trouble in Obama's Paradise: Conservative news junkies are well apprised of President Obama's craven betrayal of the nation of Israel (vis-à-vis his declaration that borders for Israel and a new Palestinian state should be based on those in existence in 1967), as well as his having subsequently backpedaled those statements in the face of a popular backlash. Now, they are witnessing the likely disintegration of American Jewish support for Obama; since most American Jews are not blind leftist ideologues, they are beginning to seriously question the president's Israel policy and perhaps his very worldview where the Jewish people are concerned.

Bernadine Dohrn talks about the United State's role as a pervader of violence aroudn the world in this audio clip from the USHRN's first bi-annual conference in 2005 at the inception of the war in Iraq. Four years later, thousands more dead, her message still rings true and relevant. Dohrn examines five new frameworks with which to utilize the human rights framework: conceptual, linguistic, organizing, participatory and legal. The US is 4.8% of the world's people and has 60% of the world's wealth. The Special Rapporteur did visit Chicago in 2008, visit this page for follow up information on the report by Chicago organizations http://www.ushrnetwork.org/special_rep Following Bernadine Dorne, you will hear from Andrea Smith, indigenous activist with Incite: Women of COlor Against Violence http://www.incite-national.org/ A plenary speaker and member organization, Andrea talks briefly about the historical legacies of colonization on the indigenous community and makes the link between the five conceptual tools mentioned by Dorne and highlights how the human rights framework allows social justice activists challenge US state power not only to past and present human rights abuses but to the continued effects of those violations.
