Guacamelee is an indie classic, that released by in 2013 from DrinkBox Studios. This action platformer is a stylish take on the Metroidvania genre and its story and vibes were inspired by Mexican-culture and folklore. You play as a young farmhand-turned-luchador, who escapes the world of the dead using a magical mask. As you traverse these gorgeous map zones, both in the world of the living and the dead, you fight the evil Calaca's minions and gain new powers to push further in hopes of rescuing your dear Lupita. In episode 43 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily return to this classic indie game to see how it holds up today! They discuss the design of the platforming and special combat abilities and, of course, dissect the Metroidvania-style map. They also share their thoughts on the representation of Mexican culture in Guacamelee, relative to the many diverse representations we see today in indie games. On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation podcast, Podcast Beyond!, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Mark Medina and Jada Griffin to travel back in time to the days of the PS1, and reminisce about the PS1 games we loved and want to see added to the new PS Plus lineup. While we know plenty of games from the era have received remasters and remakes, we dip into franchises like Ape Escape, Brave Fencer Musashi, Mega Man X, Tomba, Twisted Metal, Final Fantasy, Digimon, Crash Bandicoot, and more for what we'd like to see added to the lineup. We discuss why we loved the games we did, what games we missed out on that we also want added so we can complete our historical knowledge of PlayStation's original console, and call out a number of picks from the Podcast Beyond community. Then, Jonathon speaks with Ian Campbell and Graham Smith from Drinkbox Studios to discuss Drinkbox's Nobody Saves the World making the jump to PS4 and PS5 this week, what players can expect, and Drnikbox's PlayStation lineage. After that, Jonathon, Jada and Mark discuss some of the news of the week, including Kingdom Hearts 4's reveal, The Witcher 3's PS5 delay, and more, plus a Memory Card story of a particularly enterprising PlayStation player. This week marks the third bookclub episode of 2022. Alex was responsible for picking the game for March, and he opted for Nobody Save the World. Coming from DrinkBox Studios, the team behind the indie darling Guacamelee, the new dungeon-crawling action RPG had a lot to live up to. Just how did the Game Boys take to the Zelda-esque title? This week we played Nobody Saves The World by; Drinkbox Studios. Nobody Saves The World is a action role playing game where you have a magic wand that lets you shapeshift into different forms. With each form you unlock new abilities that you can mix and match with other forms. You can try to save the world by yourself or team up with a friend online for coop, or be like me and just jump in Keith's game when he's about to get an achievement.
Episode 343! Nobody can be a somebody as proven in the indie game Nobody Saves the World. That's right, you are the Nobody. But YOU got this...tell them to hold your beer. Well, in the game it's more like hold my chocolate bar or turkey leg. A dungeon crawler with Zelda vibes, Shaun and Chris both like what this game from DrinkBox Studios is bringing this time round. Developed and published by Drinkbox Studios, Nobody Saves the World is an Action RPG that has you try to stop the Calamity from ending the world. You play as Nobody, literally, with one unique magical power; You're able to transform into 20 different forms. From a rat to a mermaid, to even a Necromancer. All the powers of the forms are yours to command and customize. If you want a horse that can shoot a flurry of arrows while making light rain on your enemies? You can do that. If you want a Turtle that oozes slime while summoning zombies, you can do that too. With an in-depth quest system and many dungeons to explore, it's only Nobody against a horde of hideous monsters to stop the ever-looming threat. This week, we got to chat with Ian Campbell, Lead Game Designer of Drinkbox Studios, about how the team came up with the many different standout features of Nobody Saves the World.
Jk_eye, Travol y RodoR
There's still so much to process with Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard, including some interviews from Phil Spencer and Bobby Kotick on the future of both companies. Howdy everyone, we live in wild times. Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard for 68.7 billion doll hairs. So much to unpack about this, lots of concerns with a sprinkle cautious excitement for the employees that have been under the thumb of Bobby Kotick. Some new games to check out, Nobody Saves the World from Drinkbox Studios the makers of Guacamelee is fantastic and worth your time. We do not recommend Rainbow Six Extraction it is not a great Rainbow six game and a mediocre whatever genre it is. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sweatyplebs/message
Spoilercast! We got a new show for CanadianGameDevs.com where we'll play a game and just discuss it on end. It'll be sort of a review/spoilercast type of show.First up is Guacamelee! 2 from DrinkBox Studios. This sequel to the 2013 indie hit dropped on PS4 and Steam last week so Bret, and I were joined by developer from the first game turned fan Jason Canam to discuss everything we liked (a lot of things) and disliked (not that many things) about DrinkBox's new game.
“Lucha-tastic!” – In 1994, Super Metroid, the popular and highly regarded SNES title, still plays a major impact in the video game industry. Not as its own entity, but it has inspired developers to use its formula with their own spin. Drinkbox Studios did just with their light-heartedness take on Mexican culture where the player controls an El Luchador to save the president’s daughter from an evil skeleton donning a mariachi suit, Carlos Calaca. The guys look forward to the sequel which is due out in 2018 soon-ish.
On the Game Dev Loadout podcast, join Jason Canam from Household Games Incorporation as we discuss making games accessible, taking timeline seriously, benefits of being in a community, and much more. He found his company in 2016 which is focused on creating high-quality and stylized original IP content for consoles and PC. He used to be the game designer for DrinkBox Studios working on Guacamelee! Championship Edition and now his current game The Way of the Passive Fist is out now.
Steve and Jason talk his time at Drinkbox Studios, starting an indie game studio and releasing their fist game. They also chat game accessibility and trophies.

I got to sit down with Chris McQuinn from Drinkbox Studios and talk about Guacamelee Super Turbo Championship Edition a lot including those people who didn't like the art posters in the game. Had a lot of fun talking with Chris and checking out the game.
It's no secret that we here at Indie Luchador love indie games. It's also not a secret that we love wrestling AND luchadors. Hell, let's just say it- we love Guacamelee. So what did Jovan st. Lawrence and Eric Lee Lewis do? They sat down and had a chat with Augusto Quijano from Drinkbox to speak about Guacamelee and other possible future projects. A possible Guacamelee 2?
