Welcome to my podcast episode 163, published on January 23, 2025, titled "January 2026 Sustainable Stock and ETF Picks." This podcast is presented by Investing for the Soul. Investingforthesoul.com is your go-to site for vital global, ethical, and sustainable investing mentoring, news, commentary, information, and resources. Remember that you can find a full transcript and links to content, including stock symbols and bonus material, on this episode's podcast page at investingforthesoul.com/podcasts. Also, a reminder. I do not evaluate any of the stocks or funds mentioned in these podcasts, and I don't receive any compensation from anyone covered in these podcasts. Furthermore, I will reveal any investments I have in the investments mentioned herein. I have a huge crop of 24 articles for you in this podcast! Note: Some companies are covered more than once. Now with so many articles to potentially cover, I've chosen 6 to quote from. The other 18 can be found with their titles and links on the webpage for this podcast edition. ------------------------------------------------------------- The 2026 Global 100 list puts speed in the spotlight The first article I'm quoting from is hot off the press and is about one of my favourite company rankings! It's titled The 2026 Global 100 list puts speed in the spotlight on corporateknights.com. The introduction is by Tristan Bronca. Here's some of what he says. "As the global economic transition accelerates, more companies are recognizing that sustainability isn't just good marketing – it's good for business, too… This was the animating spirit of the new methodology behind the Corporate Knights Global 100 ranking. The revised methodology introduces 'sustainable revenue momentum' to measure how fast companies are growing their sustainable revenues. A change of method Last year, sustainable revenues and investments together accounted for 50% of the score, and the other 50% was scored across 22 common environmental, governance and social performance indicators (KPIs) such as water use, emissions, workplace fatalities, and diversity on the board and among executives. The change has reordered the deck in a big way… A dramatic departure? 'In terms of performance, the G100 companies are back in top form, beating the benchmark MSCI AWCI index over the past year,' Toby Heaps says, referring to a stock market index of 85% of global investable equities across almost 50 countries." End quotes. Incidentally, the top five companies are ERG SpA (ERG.MI), Pandora A/S (PNDORA.CO), EDP Renováveis SA (EDP.LS), Fluence Energy, Inc. (FLNC), and Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (2633.TW). ------------------------------------------------------------ Top 4 Clean Tech Companies to Watch in 2026 This next article brings us back to highly familiar territory. It's titled Top 4 Clean Tech Companies to Watch in 2026 on carboncredits.com and is by Jennifer L. Here are some brief quotes. "1. NextEra Energy (NEE) is the largest clean energy company in the world. It owns and operates wind farms, solar fields, and battery storage systems across the United States… NextEra has also increased its dividend for more than 26 years in a row. 2. First Solar (FSLR) is one of the top makers of solar panels worldwide. It uses a technology called thin‑film photovoltaic modules. These panels are lighter, use fewer raw materials, and often perform better in hot climates compared to traditional silicon panels. The company builds large solar power plants that send power to utilities and corporate customers… Financially, First Solar is a strong player. Its market cap was around $24 billion in 2025, and it has shown double‑digit revenue growth. 3. Bloom Energy (BE) makes a special type of power generator called a solid‑oxide fuel cell. These units produce electricity efficiently and with low emissions. Customers include data centers, large buildings, and industrial sites that need reliable power without high carbon output. Bloom's fuel cells can run on hydrogen or biogas, which makes them flexible for future clean energy systems… Premium financial news reported that its stock jumped more than 410 % in 2025 after strong earnings results. 4. Plug Power (PLUG) focuses on hydrogen fuel cell systems. Its products are designed to replace traditional batteries and fossil fuels in heavy equipment, forklifts, and industrial vehicles. The company is also building hydrogen production and fueling infrastructure across North America and Europe. This supports a broader 'green hydrogen' economy… Plug Power has faced financial challenges, including consistent net losses and stock price volatility… Its long‑term growth story depends on hydrogen demand and policy support worldwide." End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3 ESG Stocks to Add to Your Portfolio for Sustainable Returns in 2026 - December 30, 2025 The third article I've chosen to quote from is titled 3 ESG Stocks to Add to Your Portfolio for Sustainable Returns in 2026 - December 30, 2025 on zacks.com. Its title is AI infrastructure stocks Lumentum, Celestica, Seagate beat Nvidia 2025 on cnbc.com. It's by Kif Leswing. Here are some brief quotes. 1. Nvidia has been the biggest infrastructure winner in the artificial intelligence boom, soaring in value by almost thirteenfold since the end of 2022 to a market cap of $4.6 trillion. 2. Seagate is also benefiting from booming demand for storage. The stock is up 231% this year. Sales rose 21% to $2.63 billion in the company's fiscal third quarter, which ended Oct. 3. The company said at the time that 80% of its sales go to the data center market. 'There is no question that AI is reshaping hard drive demand by elevating the economic value of data and data storage,' CEO Dave Mosley said on a call with analysts… Analysts expect 21% revenue growth this fiscal year, followed by increases of about 15% and 6% in the next two years, according to LSEG. 6. Celestica founded in 1994 as an IBM subsidiary, makes switches that connect networks together and manage the data and traffic flowing through them. The stock is up more than 230% this year… Analysts at Goldman Sachs wrote in a note Friday that Celestica supplies parts for Google's ASIC. The platform provides cryptographic attestation to verify secure data handling and aims to prevent user data from being accessed by third parties or used for targeted advertising. 173: iPhone 18 Pro Looks Like a Huge Upgrade

The MacRumors Show

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 21, 2025 34:09

On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through all of the new features and improvements expected to come to next year's iPhone 18 Pro and ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro Max models. Apple's next-generation iPhones are less than a year away and we already have a good idea about what to expect based on corroborated leaks, rumors, and reports from reliable sources. While the overall design of the ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro is expected to remain largely the same as that of the iPhone 17 Pro, it could feature translucent or color-matched rear glass, as well as a thicker design to accommodate a bigger battery. Apple is rumored to be testing at least three new color options for the ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro models, including burgundy, brown, and purple, but only one of these is expected to be carried forward to production. The front of the device is expected to see Face ID moved under the display for the first time, resulting in a smaller Dynamic Island and potentially a left-aligned punch-hole camera. The front-facing camera is also expected to see a bump up to 24-megapixels. The main rear camera could receive a new three-stack image sensor from Samsung and it is highly likely to get a variable aperture. A variable-aperture system physically adjusts the lens opening, letting more light in for low-light shots or narrowing the opening for brighter scenes and deeper depth of field. Apple is also expected to "simplify" the Camera Control by removing its capacitive functions, moving it to rely on pressure alone. It should also sport the A20 Pro chip, which will be Apple's first based on TSMC's 2nm process for enhanced performance and efficiency. A custom "C2" chip is expected to displace Qualcomm's 5G modem, with support for mmWave 5G in the United States. In addition, Apple apparently plans to add support for 5G networks that operate via satellites rather than Earth-based towers. The ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 18‌ Pro Max are expected to debut in the fall of 2026 alongside the first foldable iPhone. The ‌iPhone‌ 18e, ‌iPhone 18‌, and iPhone Air 2 are likely to follow in the spring of 2027.

Jon and I are back after a brief hiatus, and we had a lot to catch up on, starting with our ever-evolving audio gear! I tested out a new budget microphone, the Boya Measureless, which I'm using in a shotgun mode on a tripod. Jon is actually using the same mic in lavalier format. It's a pretty advanced 4-in-1 mic that even comes with its own charging case and windscreens. I'm glad it's working out for both of us! Shifting gears, I needed some help rationalizing a recent purchase: the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE. It was a good bundle from Costco, including the S Pen (which uses Wacom EMR technology) and a nice magnetic keyboard case, all for around $500. I was looking for a replacement for my Pixel tablet, which Google is apparently not going to continue developing. I like that the S10 FE is IP68 water and dustproof, has a micro SD slot (I added a 256GB card for 384GB total storage!), and supports both Face ID and fingerprint login. I'm even learning how to use Samsung's additional windowing system on top of the standard Android UI. We discussed the rumor of a budget MacBook (codenamed J700) possibly coming out in 2026 with the iPhone's A18 Pro processor. I think it would be fantastic in the $499 range, especially for schools and people new to desktop operating systems. We also touched on the mind-blowing news that an AI-written song hit number one on the Billboard country music chart. I remember being wowed by the first all-CGI movie, The Last Starfighter, back in the '80s, and it feels like AI music is on a similar path to becoming normal. Jon then walked me through a cool, old trick for Google Sheets: using the Google Visualization API with a SQL query embedded in a URL to fetch specific data, which he uses for his weekly jokes. Finally, Jon demoed Open Broadcast Studio (OBS), which is a free, versatile tool for broadcasting and recording, offering commercial-level features for mixing audio and video sources.

Israel is often in the headlines for conflict—but there's another story you need to hear.Beyond the headlines, Israel has emerged as a global innovation hub and a rising player in international markets. Today, Brian Mumbert joins us to share why investing in Israel could be a strategic opportunity worth considering.Brian Mumbert is Vice President and Regional Sales Executive at Timothy Plan, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. Why Invest in Israel? At first glance, investing in a nation experiencing conflict may seem counterintuitive. But economies often demonstrate resilience in times of war. Israel is no exception. With robust defense spending, a thriving entrepreneurial spirit, and a deeply ingrained culture of saving and financial discipline, the nation continues to grow.In fact, one of Israel's largest banks gave out piggy banks to families nationwide to encourage saving—a small example of the country's ingrained culture of stewardship and fiscal responsibility. For those wondering about safety, Israel offers a surprisingly secure environment for investment. The Tel Aviv 125 Index, which tracks the nation's 125 largest companies, operates much like the U.S. stock exchanges. Israel has transitioned from an emerging to a developed economy, putting it in the same global category as many European nations. Its GDP is forecasted to grow by 3.3% in 2025 and 4.6% in 2026, with inflation targeted at a steady 2%—numbers comparable to the U.S. outlook. The “Startup Nation” AdvantageIsrael's reputation as a hub of innovation is well-earned. In 2024 alone, U.S. giants invested billions in Israeli startups. Google acquired cloud security firm Wiz for $32 billion, while Palo Alto Networks purchased CyberArk, an identity management leader, for $25 billion. Everyday technologies like Apple's Face ID and SodaStream also trace their roots back to Israel.Large U.S. companies buying small Israeli firms is common since it's part of the fabric of their economy. While technology dominates headlines, Israel's economy is diverse. Financials, industrials, and defense sectors have also posted strong returns. In fact, nearly every sector reported double-digit growth in 2025. The Israeli shekel has also appreciated, further boosting investor confidence.International ties enhance Israel's economic opportunities. The Abraham Accords have opened new trade relationships across the Middle East, while defense partnerships with Europe have surged amid global conflicts. Recent agreements, such as a $35 billion natural gas export deal with Egypt, demonstrate the nation's expanding role in global energy markets. The Timothy Plan Israel Common Values FundFor investors who want exposure to Israel's growth while remaining true to their faith, Timothy Plan offers the Israel Common Values Fund. This actively managed fund holds 58 companies, giving broad diversification within the Israeli market.True to Timothy Plan's mission, the fund excludes companies that profit from abortion, pornography, or other activities inconsistent with biblical values. Even in Israel, they carefully screen companies to ensure they align with Christian principles.Faith-based investors increasingly want their portfolios to reflect their values. Advances in technology have made it easier to screen companies for alignment, though Timothy Plan has been doing it faithfully since 1994. They're not just avoiding harmful investments, they're enabling believers to steward their resources in ways that honor God.”Practical Advice for InvestorsIf you've never seen faith-based options in your portfolio, start by talking to your advisor. Share what you're passionate about—your church involvement, your giving priorities, your desire for biblical stewardship. When advisors know your values, they can help you align your investments with them. The Timothy Plan Israel Common Values Fund provides a practical way to support Israel and benefit from its dynamic economy—all while investing according to biblical principles. To explore this opportunity, visit TimothyPlan.com.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'd like some biblical insight on the power of tithing. I've even heard of people practicing ‘reverse tithing,' living on 10% and giving away 90%. What benefits might there be if we increased our giving to 15% or even 20%?My grandfather has invested in a commemorative coin collection for years. He's asked me and my aunt to handle it before he passes—determine the value and then sell it. Where can I turn to find out what it's worth and get the best price for his investment?Resources Mentioned:Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly Magazine (Become a FaithFi Partner)Timothy PlanTimothy Plan's Israel Common Values FundWisdom Over Wealth: 12 Lessons from Ecclesiastes on MoneyLook At The Sparrows: A 21-Day Devotional on Financial Fear and AnxietyRich Toward God: A Study on the Parable of the Rich FoolFind a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) or Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC)FaithFi App Remember, you can call in to ask your questions most days at (800) 525-7000.
