We are back on our journey through the 80s and 90s as we start our series on 1986/87. The second half of the eighties was arguably the greatest run of FA Cup Finals and this season's may sit above them all. From the fourth round victory at Old Trafford, Coventry City's joint managerial team of John Sillett and George Curtis were adamant that this could be their year. Standing in the Wembley Way would be a Spurs side whose treble dreams had faded but who still had the opportunity to send Glenn Hoddle off in style. Author Richard Chamberlain joins us to discuss the most famous season in Coventry's history as well as some other great FA Cup stories along the way. He then joined Juventus and led them to the treble winning the Supercoppa, The Italian Cup and Serie A. In later years he also won Coppa Italia and Supercoppa. In 2024 he then joined Lyon in France and they won the Premier League. The in 2025 he was announced as the new coach of the Australian National team, the Matildas. What are the few core principles that define how I want to lead or work, and are they clear enough for others to act on without constant direction? How well do I understand the culture of the environment I'm working in, and where might I need to adapt my approach?Which values truly guide my behaviour each day, and how visible are they to the people around me? After finishing 14th on 47 points, eight clear of the drop, with an FA Cup semi-final run and a first league win at Old Trafford since 1981, Daniel Farke's side delivered a season nobody outside Elland Road saw coming. The lads hand out awards across eight categories - best match, team performance, individual performance, goal of the season, signing of the season, season low, surprise hero and player of the year - with plenty of disagreement along the way. E212: “It's Over” — Drama in Scotland, Bournemouth End Pep's Title Chase, Pep Exit Rumours & Southampton Expelled (Week in Football)One week after lifting the Premier League title, The Non-Negotiables turn their attention to the rest of football and there was no shortage of stories to unpack.WATG returns for Matchweek 37 as European places tighten, relegation pressure remains alive and attention turns to the final day. Aston Villa edge closer to Champions League football, Bournemouth make more history and questions remain around who joins Europe's biggest stage next season.  North of the border, Celtic secure a 56th league title after late drama against Hearts. The lads discuss what made the Scottish title race feel different this season, whether the Old Firm monopoly was genuinely under threat and reflect on former Arsenal figures involved in the celebrations.  There's also discussion around the changing place of the FA Cup, managerial culture, and the growing feeling that football's traditional landmarks continue to shift.  Then attention turns to the biggest Premier League story of the week. Bournemouth get the result that ends Manchester City's title defence and confirms Arsenal as champions. The conversation moves from the title itself into what comes next — Pep Guardiola's future, succession talk, timing of the reports and what a changing landscape could mean.  Elsewhere, there's reaction to Southampton's extraordinary play-off controversy, wider debate around punishment in football and whether the game has become too comfortable with rule breaches and inconsistent consequences.  Plus final-day permutations, Champions League qualification scenarios and one last look at the relegation battle before the season reaches its conclusion. Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables & Intro(00:18) - Week in Football Introduction & WATG: Matchweek 37(02:33) - Celtic Win Title 56 & Hearts Fall Short(05:02) - Former Gunners & Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Debate(08:10) - Is the FA Cup Losing Its Place?(11:21) - Chelsea, Xabi Alonso & Managerial Chaos Discussion(14:07) - Pep Guardiola Exit Rumours & Manchester City Succession Talk(17:24) - Charges, Legacy & Arteta Beating Pep(22:33) - Slot Stays & Salah's Statement(24:37) - Southampton Expelled From Play-Offs? Blue Moon Podcast - A Manchester City Show

What a week. Manchester City have lifted the FA Cup to make it a domestic cup double, but a draw at Bournemouth on Tuesday also ended their hopes of lifting the Premier League title... while the news also broke this week that Pep Guardiola will call time on his career at the Etihad at the end of the season. David Mooney is joined by City fan Ciaran Murray and, from the Manchester Evening News, Simon Bajkowski to try and make sense of all the emotions that we're feeling. Both the victory over Chelsea and the stalemate on the south coast can only be viewed through the prism of the last days of the Guardiola era, with similar thoughts looking ahead to this Sunday's match with Aston Villa. What will life look like after Pep? We hear from Barcelona fan Manu and Bayern Munich fan Felipe as they explain what happened to their clubs after Guardiola stepped down. And why is Enzo Maresca the club's choice of successor? We discuss it all. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. It felt like a weekend of broken hearts all around football, but Musa and Ryan begin with Manchester City's win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final (02:12), to secure a domestic cup double and Pep Guardiola's 20th trophy as City boss.Chelsea were quick to counter the disappointment, as it was announced that Xabi Alonso will take over as manager in the summer (12:39) and that's where the bulk of today's show is focussed. There's enough time to chat about Celtic's late win over Hearts (31:34), to secure their 14th title in 15 years in dramatic fashion, as well as a few other shoutouts. Also, Musa did a new piece for the Kickback Soccer newsletter, which you can read here, and tickets for our July live show, with Nish Kumar at the Southbank Centre, are available here. For more podcasts, ad-free and in full, plus access to the Stadio Social Club and much more, you can become a Stadio member by signing up at patreon.com/stadio.
