Summary This episode of the Taking the Land podcast features Pastor Angel Ortiz, who shares his testimony of transformation from a life of crime and gang involvement to becoming a pastor. He joined gangs at a young age and was involved in criminal activities such as theft and drug dealing. However, his involvement in sports, particularly football and wrestling, gave him a sense of belonging and purpose. Despite his athletic success, Pastor Ortiz's criminal activities escalated, leading to dangerous encounters and betrayals. However, the influence of his brother's conversion to Christianity eventually led Pastor Ortiz to reconsider his lifestyle and seek a new path. Angel Ortiz shares his incredible journey from a life of fear, violence, and involvement with the Mexican cartel to finding salvation and forgiveness in Christ. He recounts the intense experiences of being targeted by enemies and the moment he encountered God's love through the witness of a pastor. Angel's life takes a dramatic turn as he decides to leave his old lifestyle behind and embrace a new life in Christ. Takeaways The influence of a positive community, such as sports teams, can provide a sense of belonging and purpose for individuals at risk of getting involved in criminal activities. Even in challenging circumstances, there is always hope for transformation and redemption. The consequences of a life of crime and drug dealing can be severe, leading to dangerous encounters, betrayals, and constant fear. The influence of a family member or loved one who is praying and witnessing can have a powerful impact on someone's life, even in the midst of a destructive lifestyle. Salvation can bring radical transformation and a new purpose in life. The influence of a godly mentor or pastor can have a profound impact on one's spiritual journey. Pioneering in ministry requires a wholehearted commitment and a willingness to go wherever God leads. God can use ordinary individuals to accomplish extraordinary things in the advancement of His kingdom. Believers should be diligent in working the works of God and entering into their calling and destiny. Prayer is essential for the growth and expansion of the church, both locally and globally. With federal courts proving unfavorable, a group of abortion rights advocates turn to state court to challenge Georgia's more restrictive abortion law; The best line from today's Congressional hearing on conditions at the Federal Penitentiary in Atlanta was easily, "It is never a good idea to leave prison doors open." Uhhhh. No arguments; and Atlanta in general is a hot city [Now don't you dare give into the urge to chuckle 'Hotlanta" at this point, either. Resist. No good will come of it.], but at the street level, that heat can be worse than the ones just a block or two away. Mr. ESQ Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Mr. Esq had a rough time during his formative years, which threatened his musical career, but with determination and resilience, he is back on track Setbacks are inevitable in life. However, one can see them as positive lessons instead of demoralizing failures. Learning to deal with setbacks and obstacles is important in moving forward and achieving one's goal. This is the story of Mr. Esq, a rapper, singer, and songwriter from British Columbia. Mr. Esq was born and raised in a somewhat troubled area with six siblings, three older boys, and girls. He was introduced to the realities of life at a very tender age, and the negative aspects of life seemed to appeal more. Mr. Esq got into drug distribution and driving for illegal activities before he could possess a license. His association clearly defined his life at the time as Mr. Esq worked for people who were consistently disobedient to the law. Soon, that way of life became natural to him, and he continued to delve deeper into it. When Mr. Esq was 18, he got a lady pregnant and decided to quit his violent lifestyle to cater to the needs of his unborn baby. As expected, leaving such a lifestyle and not suffering consequences is unheard of, and Mr. Esq had to ward off his former colleagues who were still demanding his services. Shortly after moving away, Mr. Esq's child passed away at his birth. The unfortunate event introduced a dark chapter in his life as Mr. Esq started drinking heavily and getting involved in vices again. Before long, Mr. Esq was faced with fourteen years of Federal Penitentiary. He got a little bit lucky, getting a combined sentence of ten years. While at the Penitentiary, Mr. Esq made several discoveries that established a pivot for his restoration. Speaking about it, Mr. Esq had this to say, “I recognized I never properly coped with the death of my son, and I drowned myself in alcohol instead. Doing so was a large contributing factor to my behavior that landed me in the bad situations I was in and was the result of why I was sitting where I was. I decided to make changes in my character that I hoped would result in a better quality of life. This was when I got back into writing.” CONTACT & BOOKING E-mail: radio@predominantstudiosinc.com https://www.predominantstudiosinc.com/ Counterparts booking: www.counterpartsshow.com

Today's Featured Guest is Tony Montaga (Tony-X) We had a nice chat discussing Religion, Him serving 6 years in the Federal Penitentiary, Education, and how that played a role in how he viewed the community to try and influence individuals to change their mindset, Tony's journey on running for U.S. Senate, Meeting Donald Trump, Future Bills, Doctrines, that he would like to establish for New York, the importance of health, financial literacy and changing the Education system. Tucker began to prepare for the rest of his life. He earned a GED, a move that criminal justice experts tend to applaud. Upon release, Tucker says he felt as though he had lost a lot of time, and focused on staying out of trouble. These days he is a 35-year-old business owner in Crown Heights, running a tattoo and clothing shop, Top Shelf Ink on Utica Avenue, and working on music on the side. Tucker grew up in Brownsville and says he had a very rough home life. Living on his own since the age of 12, Tucker says his mindset was just to survive. Living in an abandoned house for months after leaving his home, he says he relied on selling marijuana to survive. His top priority is education reform, where he calls for a system where parents can take the same classes as students, and teachers can hold parents accountable: “Children have potential and it is evident when parents are involved. The lack of parental reinforcement at home for poor behavior/attendance would allow teachers to issue referrals to the school guidance counselor so parents can receive assistance with communication skills and other needs.” Because it is hard for felons to get jobs, he became an entrepreneur. “Black people are preconditioned to be entrepreneurs,” he says, adding that he feels rejuvenated by social media and its ability to help small businesses. He believes the drop in crime in Crown Heights, for example, is due to a shift from illegal ways of making money, to legal ones. Like his shop. Tap in with "The Most Unorthodox Show On The Globe

Will Brown is an American author born and raised in Akron Ohio . Throughout childhood the author excelled at scholastics despite a rough upbringing in an impoverished neighborhood known for drugs and violence. Despite all the good people in his life and the guidance he received, the authors choice to succumb to his surrounding environment and be active in the streets eventually led him to a three year prison sentence in the Federal Penitentiary's notorious Big Sandy USP at the age of 22. Once released from prison the author moved to Atlanta Ga and started a family and lead the life of an average working man and was quite content. In 2008 the united states went into a recession turning the authors life along with most Americans lives upside down and into a state of turmoil not sure of how their bills would be paid or where their next meal would come from. Subsequently the author once again found himself turning to crime which led to a 10 year prison sentence in the Georgia state prison system. This time inside the author used his time wisely and strengthened his mind body and soul through reading, exercise, and religious studies. He discovered classic literature and fell in love with the genre and tried to read as many books as possible which eventually led him to start writing himself. He was released from prison in 2020 and founded Literati Publishing co. that same year, and he has hopes of one day making it the number one publishing company in the world. [Originally produced in 2017] William Patterson, a leader of the Communist Party USA, was an eminent civil rights attorney who spearheaded defense of the Scottsboro Nine, Black youth in Alabama framed on phony rape charges in 1932. Patterson was a radical visionary who understood that African world struggle for freedom has in essence a struggle for human rights. Not human rights as practiced and theorized from a racialized, elitist Westernized perspective, but from a holistic, communal position. In this regard, Patterson, much like Sylvia Wynter, seeks to restore to our conception of human life the framework of a direction, a telos. In the mid 1930's Patterson went to Cuba to set up the Cuban International Labor Defense and to organize support for those fighting the dictatorship of Batista. In 1951, We Charge Genocide: the Crime of Government, a petition on behalf of African descended persons in the United States charging the U.S. government with the crime of genocide was published by the Civil Rights Congress and was presented to the United Nations General Assembly in Paris by Patterson and to the United Nations Secretariat in New York by Paul Robeson. For this act, Patterson was charged with contempt of Congress because he refused to divulge the names of contributors to the Civil Rights Congress and its bail fund as well as the names of the organizations to which he belonged. Patterson served ninety days in the Federal House of Detention in New York and in the Federal Penitentiary at Danbury, Connecticut on contempt charges in 1954-55. In May of 1969, he joined the defense team of attorneys for Huey P. Newton of the Black Panther Party. He served as a trustee of the Angela Davis Legal Defense Fund and of the National Legal Defense fund. Taking a moment to impress upon you the deep visionary perspective and impact of the We Charge Genocide petition, on preparing and submitting, Patterson stated: “To me, it seemed clear that the Charter and Conventions of the UN had to be made the property of Black America…It could be made the instrumentality through which the ‘Negro Question' could be lifted to its highest dimension.” Today, we will listen to Gerald Horne reflect on the life and work of William Patterson, through a discuss of his book, which was published by University of Illinois Press and released Oct 2013, titled Black Revolutionary: William Patterson and the Globalization of the African American Freedom Struggle. Gerald Horne is the John and Rebecca Moores Professor of History at the University of Houston. After Dr. Horne, we turn our attention to the situation and conditions of African Migrants in Libya. Joining us for this discussion is Mwiza Munthali, executive producer, human rights activist, and international journalist who recently caught up with Nunu Kidane. Ms. Nunu Kidane is the Director of Priority Africa Network and editor of AfricaMoves: A Pan African Migration Platform which hosts regular consultations on migration policy around Africa and the diaspora. Ms. Kidane is founder and current steering committee member of the Pan African Network in Defense of Migrants' Rights (PANiDMR) and the Black Immigration Network (BIN). In 2012, Nunu Kidane received award from the White House as "Champion of Change" for work with African diaspora communities. Jason started training at the legendary South Broadway athletic club in 1999 and that's when him and Mark struck up the friendship....BUT HOLD THE PHONE....Jason explains this on the back of a 6 year stint in PRISON! WHAT??? Mark gets it revealed to him for the first time live on this show that his friend Jason not only robbed a bank and went to prison for 6 years, but he was put into the Federal Penitentiary at Leavenworth...the oldest in the country. And one of the most notorious in the country to this day. When you think of Shawshank, you are thinking of Leavenworth. Jason proceeds to explain his gang background and what it is like sitting and waiting in a Federal Pen. What to watch out for and who to watch out for. If you were wanting a background in the prison system of the US, this episode of the Q opens up a world little seen by many. The guys discuss the difference between state and federal level prisons and Jason talks about the most evil human being he's ever encountered in his entire life. A riveting discussion that surely will open your eyes. Jason opens up about his past and all of it in the hopes that someone listening will change their ways and not want to be in the same spot he was in. All this on the new episode of The Q!
This episode is intended to enjoy as you are winding down and ready to sleep. It's based on an interview with an 82 year old Chaplain from the Federal Penitentiary. He shared the simplest wisdom, a choice you can make to help you find the deepest sleep.

Today on Hempire our host is joined by Dr. Ernie Murakami from Dr. E. Murakami's Centre for Lyme Research, Education & Assistance Society. Dr. Murakami became involved in Lyme Disease while in his practice based in the rural community of Hope, British Columbia. Through his practice, he developed two new methods of tick removal, one which was the Blister Method; the injection of a pre-measured mixture of Xylocaine and Adrenaline directly beneath the jaw of the tick. This method is used today, primarily in Medical offices and by Emergency Physicians. The second method was the Drinking Straw and Single Knot Method, in which the attached tick is placed inside the straw, with the straw held at a 45 degree angle. A suture string is placed under the straw, directly in contact with the mouth of the wood tick. A single knot is applied. Constant alternating releasing pressure is applied upwards away from the skin and the tick releases itself intact, from the host. This technique was accepted by the Compensation Board and the Justice Institute for the training of ambulance and first-aid personnel and is in full use today. These techniques were at the time, being taught by Dr. Murakami to other Physicians at International Conferences. During the times spent at these clinics, he became familiar with the treatment of Lyme, both long term and short term, as well as the split theories surrounding the treatment of Lyme. One fraction believed that only 3 weeks of treatment was adequate at any level, despite the fact that this had been disproven, while the other half believed that long-term treatment was required to eradicate the Cystic form of the disease, based on biological fact. Dr. Murakami became intrigued with the disease as to the epidemiology with his first case of confirmed Lyme Disease in Agassiz, BC at the Federal Penitentiary. This patient showed the typical bulls-eye rash that developed soon after being infected. A second case intrigued him further when another patient from Hope, BC was confirmed to have a typical rash and a positive Eliza serology. Both these patients responded to three weeks of antibiotic treatment.
