Do you have a plan for your life? That's the question we're asking on this episode as Jeff walks through how he developed and is pursuing a life plan. Zig Ziglar, a well-known author, and communicator said this: "If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time." Sadly, that is how many of us live our lives - aiming at nothing. We're just letting life happen to us. And If you let life happen to you, you may end up living a life where nothing worthwhile happens. Now, you don't have to have a life plan In order to succeed in life. I think It creates some focus to succeed, but this isn't a requirement to live a successful life. If you want to see what my life plan looks like, I've provided a sample portion of it as a download below. I've also included a template for you that follows the process I used. You can use this blank template, which includes all the instructions you need, to build your own life plan. Jeff's Sample Life Plan Life Plan Template Daniel Harkavy --- https://www.buildingchampions.com/who-we-are/coaches-and-staff/daniel-harkavy/ Becoming A Coaching Leader Book Building Champions --- https://www.buildingchampions.com/ Eddy Shigley --- https://www.indwes.edu/academics/faculty/edward-shigley Seven Steps To Creating Your Life Plan: 1. Schedule the time --- This is where so many people get derailed when it comes to goals, dreams, bucket lists, and life plans. They simply don't schedule the time to do it. 2. Seek God in prayer --- A bucket list is one thing, but this was a life plan. This is what my life was going to be focused on for the next 20 or so years, I didn't want it to be just about things I love to do. I wanted this to be about my legacy. What would I leave behind? What would be the lasting impact of my life? 3. Set the length of your life plan --- Now, there is no set length of time you have to do. I would suggest no shorter than ten years and no longer than what is humanly reasonable. Ten to thirty years is probably the most common range. 4. Start with Scripture --- I wanted a Scripture that would guide my Life Plan. Again, I didn't want this to be just about things I love in life, but about my legacy. What I wanted to leave behind. Because of that, I wanted Scripture to be the foundation for it all. Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that will prevail. Psalm 92:12-15 But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord's own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in him!” 5. State your values and your vision --- If you write down values but don't live them out, they are just words on paper. They aren't values, they are aspirations. Values are not just the words that we say, they are the way we live, born out of what we believe, because of who God is. 6. Set your goals --- I loved the idea in Harkavy's book of accumulating net-worth in each account. When you think in terms of net-worth, you are thinking of the long game. That's what I wanted to do in these accounts. So often, we make decisions based on what will make us feel good on Friday, not what will be best for us and others in the future. Net-worth is future thinking, not Friday thinking. 7. Systemize the review --- If you aren't going to review it, don't do it. Like for real. This is way too much work and too important to do it once and then not review it. Reviewing it is going to get it connected deep into your heart.

As we are coming to the end of 2020 and look forward to 2021, we are going to offer encore episodes about the importance of and steps in writing a life plan.  2020 certainly didn’t turn out like the vision we may have had for it, but we have a lot to look forward to.  This past year has dealt a harsh blow to many plans we may have had.  Some I know have been able to reboot their plans and move forward with an alternative direction, either changing course entirely or just navigating around the original planned course.  As 2021 approaches, we can look forward to a vaccine for Covid-19 and the return to some of the activities that we have been held back from doing as a result of this pandemic.   This is the perfect time to do what I believe is one of the most important steps to avoiding a life of regret by writing down a life plan, and we will spend the next 3 episodes replaying the 3 episodes that covered this nearly a year ago.  This also gives me time to take a bit of a break to revisit my life plan and make adjustments based on where I am now and this season of life to chart the course of where I want to be.  So don’t miss a single episode of this series.  Remember, just listening to teaching and information will get you nowhere unless you act on it, so here we go for part 2 of this series.   Much of the information I am going to share is based on the book, “Living Forward” by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy as I have mentioned in previous episodes.  You can find the reference and link to the book in the show notes.   Last week we talked about beginning your life plan with the end in mind, and your action step was to write down what legacy you hope to leave behind once you are gone by reflecting on what you would want people to say about you at your funeral and after.   Today we are going to get down to the specific about several categories, or what the book “Living Forward” call Life Accounts.  Examples of categories, or life accounts that you would want to include are:   Spiritual Intellectual Physical Marital Parental Social Financial Vocational Avocational   This list is not exhaustive and you can have different names for the categories that may be more specific to you, for instance “spouse” or you spouses name, your children’s names.  You can also add categories such as grandchildren, travel, exercise, etc.  I recommend you list them in order of priority, but that it up to you.  They do recommend putting categories that are related directly to you near the top, such as spiritual, intellectual, and physical.  Although this may feel selfish, it goes along with the thought that you can’t take care of and add value to others until you can take care of yourself.   Hyatt and Harkavy suggest there are four considerations when making your list of life accounts:   Life Accounts are unique to you. Life Accounts can be names whatever you want. Life Accounts are interrelated. Life Accounts will change over time, as we discussed last week.   You will need to get specific for each account.  Each one will need to have the following sections:   Purpose Statement:  What is your reason for being in this area, our role? Envisioned Future: What does this area of your life look like when it is at it’s best? Inspiring Quote or Scripture. Current Reality:  Keep it simple and realistic.  Write it as bulleted statements. Specific Commitments:  Similar to goals, what steps do you need to take to get from the current reality to your envisioned future.  These steps will change as you accomplish them and move to more advanced steps.   Here is an example of my physical life account from my life plan:   Physical: My physical purpose is to maintain my body as God’s temple through proper nutrition, exercise, and following recommended checkups.   I am at a very ideal weight for me, and I have the energy to accomplish my daily activities and desires.  I am exercising daily and loving the activities that are giving me great physical benefits.  I have cut my medications to a minimum because of my healthy way of life.   I am very conscious about my health and diet, yet often make poor choices, particularly on the nutritional side. I track steps and exercise with an Apple Watch I currently do 35-40 pushups every morning I don’t have a regiment in place for getting enough exercise and strength building. I have cut my BP and Cholesterol medication in half and monitor results   Specific Commitments: I will get to and maintain a weight of 175 – 180. I will do cardio and strength building exercises a minimum of 4 times per week. I will read “The Daniel Plan” and make 4 beneficial eating habit changes as a result. I will drink at least 8 – 8 ounce servings of water daily.   Inspirational Quote: Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you received from God?  1 Corinthians 6:19   We will get down to more detail about how to write your specific commitments and follow through with making progress with your life plan next week as we conclude the series.   Action Step:  Write down your list of between 6 - 12 life categories or accounts.  Write your purpose statement for each, your envisioned future of where you want to be, an inspiring quote or scripture for some of them, and the current reality of where you are now.  Refer back to the show notes for an example of how I have written one of my accounts, but write it in a way that is most meaningful for you.

As we are coming to the end of 2020 and look forward to 2021, we are going to offer encore episodes about the importance of and steps in writing a life plan.  2020 certainly didn’t turn out like the vision we may have had for it, but we have a lot to look forward to.  This past year has dealt a harsh blow for many plans  we may have had. Remember, just listening to teaching and information will get you nowhere unless you act on it, so here we go for part 1 of this series.   A life plan is a short written document that is written by you for you.  The life plan we will be discussing starts with the end in mind, how do you want to be remembered, the legacy you leave.  The second part details your life priorities, the who’s and what’s that are most important to you.  The third part details specific actions you will make to reach where you want to be.  This is where you can plug in your goals.   A life plan is a living document that needs to be reviewed often and can be modified as you move forward and/or into different seasons of life.   In this episode we will talk about beginning with the end in mind.  Think about how you would want each of these relationships to eulogize you and talk about you once you were gone from this earth.  These are just examples but this list is not exhaustive: God (well done good and faithful servant) Spouse Children Grandchildren Closest Friends Casual Acquaintances Those you worked with, your colleagues Those who were in organizations you were part of Teammates Clients you served Your Church   The example I will provide is from my co-workers from the school district I just retired from:   “Those that I worked with will recall how I always made them feel valued and appreciated.  They will talk about how I always made clear to all my faith, and that I was an example by being His hands and feet in serving those in need.  They will recall my desire for them to grow into leaders that focused on adding value to the lives of others.  They will talk about my honesty and integrity in all things that I did.”   In the book “Living Forward” by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy, they state that writing your eulogy as part of your life plan will “engage both the head and the heart”.  The book also states that if you can imagine you are attending your own funeral, what conversations would you hear:   What would those closest to your life? What stories would they tell one another? Would those stories make them laugh, cry, sigh, or all three? How would they summarize what your life meant to them?   Leaving a legacy is inevitable. Leaving a legacy that you want is not, and requires planning and intention.   Hyatt and Harkavy go on to write:   “Our legacy comprises the spiritual, intellectual, relational, vocational, and social capital we pass on. It’s the sum total of the beliefs you embrace, the values you live by, the love you express, and the service you render to others.”   What do you want your legacy to look like with each of the relationships we talked about earlier?   Action item:  Write out a list of relationships similar to the ones we discussed and write compelling legacy statements that say how you would want each relationship to remember you.   Next week we will talk about listing our priorities and charting the course to live our best encore life by avoiding drifting and charting a course of action for our lives.   Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 | NIV |   In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9 | NIV |   There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1 | NIV   I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 | NIV  References: “Living Forward” by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy Contact Craig

On the latest episode of the Talkhouse Podcast, we feature the second of our talks recorded live at last year’s LA Comic Con. Though the pairing of actors Juliana Harkavy (aka Black Canary on Arrow) and Ryan Hurst (best known as Opie on Sons of Anarchy) came together at the last minute, the two clicked instantly, helped by their joint love of dogs (Ryan has 12 and is a dog trainer!) and the fact that both of them have acted on The Walking Dead. As well as swapping stories about eating lunch with zombies, the two discuss the bliss of sky-diving (which Ryan has done about 1000 times), their (sometimes embarrassing) early acting experiences, Ryan shares a hilarious Marlon Brando story, and Juliana teases a possible sideways career move into music. For more filmmakers on film, go to talkhouse.com/film. Subscribe now to stay in the loop on future episodes of the Talkhouse Podcast. Today’s show was recorded at LA Comic Con by Ali Nikou, and at Hook and Fade Studios in Brooklyn by our co-producer Mark Yoshizumi.

It's going to be really emotional. It's going to be all about Oliver's family, but not the family we're thinking of right now. It's going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it's going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.” Link:http://ew.com/tv/2017/04/07/spoiler-room-arrow-blacklist-scandal/        ARROW: MANU BENNETT'S DEATHSTROKE WILL RETURN, CONFIRMS STEPHEN AMELL (Date: 10 April 2017) Before “Arrow” Season 5 thunders to its conclusion, Deathstroke will return to the series. On Twitter, star Stephen Amell confirmed that Manu Bennett will reprise his role as Slade Wilson. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim went on to confirm Bennett's return as well. Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-deathstroke-manu-bennett-return-season-5/    Manu Bennett's Deathstroke Will Return To Arrow, Despite Actor's Denials (Date: 12 April 2017) Bennett had tweeted that on Monday that he wasn't returning to Arrow, and then followed it up yesterday with a tweet that read, "Enough b.s about d.s!!! FACT: Deathstroke Arrow are currently filming in Vancouver IS NOT ME. I am in Auckland filming The Shannara Chronicles." While Bennett was not currently filming Arrow, it seems that he is or will be at some point this week. The "other" Deathstroke was likely a stunt performer, there to shoot some scenes for which Bennett wouldn't have removed the character's trademark helmet. The statue features Diana in an action-ready pose, bracing for combat with her sword and shield in hand. The base suggests it will interlock with other statues, though on its own is rather boring. Still, the lush reds and rich golds and blues are stunning, and Kotobukiya always excels at sculpting hair. The statue also holds a well-crafted resemblance to Gal Gadot, who has her trademark golden lasso at her side. Wonder Woman will retail for 13,800 Yen, which translates to about $124 USD. She is shipping sometime in July of 2017. Rucka took to his Tumblr to tell fans that he would be leaving the title due to the strain of the twice-monthly schedule. Identifying it as his last issue on the title "for the time being," Rucka advised fans against assuming the worst and wrote, "I just can't maintain the pace on the title while also fulfilling my commitments to my other collaborators. It is, genuinely, as simple as that." Shortly thereafter, Sharp took to Facebook to confirm that he, too, would be leaving the title -- but cryptically teasing that he wouldn't be going too far. Fontana has signed on to write five issues of the twice-monthly series for the heroine, beginning with July's No. 26, with a storyline that will introduce a new villain into the DC Universe. The move comes fresh off the success of her DC Super Hero Girls work. The artist for Fontana's first two issues will be Mirka Andolfo, whose work has previously appeared in the DC Comics: Bombshells series. Fontana and Andolfo's first issue of Wonder Woman, No. 26, will be released in comic stores and digitally July 12, with No. 27 to be released July 26. The eighth episode [of ‘Arrow'] is going to have a lot of big things coming out of it, and that's going to be one of them. Yes.” Ramsey also weighed in how Digg will react to the idea of an alien invasion, which will take place over the course of The CW's four-show crossover this fall. “How is he going to react to seeing a woman fly across the horizon in a skirt? That's an even better question!” he shared. “All of this flips Digg out, but I think he's slowly getting a grip that this is the world that he now lives in and that's part of his journey as well this season.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-diggle-will-confront-flash-about-the-consequences-of-flashpoint/   Arrow: Amell calls Oliver's vigilantism ‘A last resort' (Date: 28 Oct 2016) Asked what he thought of Oliver's enduring legacy as Green Arrow, Amell told CBR, “He's very tough on [the new recruits], but then — in private moments, speaking with people he holds in close confidence — he sort of extols their virtues. So I think that he's proud, but again, being a vigilante (and I think that he would agree with this) is the last resort, not the first resort. In a perfect world, Star City wouldn't need a Green Arrow. So I think that the proliferation of them, while heartening in some sense and encouraging, is also a reminder that he hasn't gotten the job done.” As to whether or not this job could ever truly be done, he added, “Of course! When the show is done, he'll have gotten the job done.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-amell-calls-olivers-vigilantism-a-last-resort/   Mericle calls Arrow's 100th episode a ‘Love letter to the show' (Date: 28 Oct 2016) Wendy Mericle spoke to CBR about finding a balance between “Arrow's” legacy and the crossover event, the future of the show, Green Lantern Easter eggs, female super-villains and more. About the 100th episode, she said, “It's the 100th and we wanted it to be very nostalgic and very much about the DNA of “Arrow,” of the show when it started. We feel really lucky. We found a way to balance the fact that we do now live in a world where there are metas and there are aliens. Greg Berlanti came up with this brilliant way of accomplishing that and making it very much a love letter to the fans and to the show.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/mericle-calls-arrows-100th-episode-a-love-letter-to-the-show/   Arrow: Lance & Thea will develop a father/daughter dynamic  (Date: 29 Oct 2016) At the celebration of “Arrow's” 100th episode, Paul Blackthorne — who plays Quentin — told CBR that Thea's offer of help will lead the two to develop a father/daughter relationship as the season moves forward. He said, "We both felt the characters wouldn't realize that was happening for quite a long time. It's not like, ‘Oh, she feels like my daughter!' It's quite unspoken, but of course it does certainly feel like that. It's like, ‘I recognize this feeling, but it's with somebody else.' It's been interesting playing on that dynamic with her.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-lance-thea-will-develop-a-fatherdaughter-dynamic/   Is Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim teasing The Question appearance? "In some ways, there can be some episodes of Arrow that can be just as optimistic in their own way, especially given the perils that they're up against," Berlanti told ComicBook.com during a recent event celebrating the hundredth episode of Arrow. "It's definitely a darker-toned show in a lot of regards, but it's always the relationships and those are just as emotional and deep and fun."
