Women of Substance with Dr. Scarlett Horton Episode 90 - Dr. Scarlett Horton, “Moving Forward in Life” __________ “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:12-14) As we come to an end of a year, it is easy to think back and want to hold onto things from the past, whether they be past disappointments or past victories. While this may seem meaningful for a short season, it is vital to learn the strategy the Apostle Paul implemented: forget the things behind and striving forward to what lies ahead. We can't drive forward looking in the rearview mirror. Jesus said, “No procrastination. No backward looks. You can’t put God’s kingdom off till tomorrow. Seize the day.” (Luke 9:62 MSG) In this episode, Dr. Scarlett teaches about the importance of forgetting the past in order to embrace our bright future in God. Your faith will be inspired as you watch. __________ https://ScarlettHorton.com https://HortonMinistries.com/ __________ TO SUPPORT THIS PODCAST: https://gvly.org/s/NNHT.5REoBw OR TEXT Proverbs31 to 844-544-7171

In this episode, Tara Sutton, State Director at BT chats with Tess Uncle, Director of Wybenga Financial about how she supports mid-life female clients as they navigate career building and generational family pressures. For many it's the busiest time of their lives and Tess encourages these clients to outsource the ‘mental load' of planning for future security. Helping them prioritise setting a goal – a number – in the middle phase of life rather than in ten years' time, and demonstrating a clear path of how to get there is what Tess considers to be the real value of advice. A Sermon by Pastor Lisa Sfameni, Co-Pastor of Victory Church in Providence, RI. Women of Judah Conference 2024 Friday Night Session Living the Eagle Life Our Despair God's Greatness Our Renewal Isaiah 40:27-31 21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; 23 who brings princes to nought, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hid from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary, his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

Fertile Ground: A mind-body approach to getting pregnant - without it taking over your life.
I used to think my shame was a reaaaallllly good protector of judgment. I used to think, “If I just listened to the orders of my shame – stayed small, pretended everything was fine, kept it all inside – then I wouldn't have to face judgment.” Meaning, if I silenced my true thoughts and feelings, then no one would know how broken I am. But I was never broken, despite shame making me feel that way. And I never felt more loved then when I let go of my shame, opened my heart and let my authentic feelings be seen and heard. There is nothing more healing than this to the mind and body liberated from the chains of shame. It helps to see how this plays out IRL, so I'm sharing an interview with 2 of my former Fertility Mind-Body Mastery members Marcie and Emily. I interviewed them in a retreat last year on how they shed their shame – and the outer results that came from the inner transformation. It's kinda mind-blowing what happened! On this weeks podcast: How real life women TTC let go of their built up fertility shame -- you'll learn: Why shedding your shame creates a deeper connection in your marriage. How it can inspire life-changing change, like a career switch to your dream job. How Fertility Mind-Body Mastery makes it easier for you to safely let go of your shame and feel worthy of exactly who you are, in all of your imperfections… Why human support is needed for our survival. What it's like to be inside of my program Fertility Mind-Body Mastery. What happens? How does it feel? What's it like to be in a group container like this? How much time do you get to be coached? All these answers are inside the podcast. Listen now!

Nic Bathurst, a dietitian and nutritionist, and mom of four kids, thought of herself as a healthy and fit person with good habits. Then, at age 48 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy and started digging into the literature about breast cancer. What she found out was not what she had learned in school. That was 10 years ago, and she has turned her life around since, in addition to changing the way she works with her clients. I had the pleasure of sitting with her for a conversation about: How menopause doesn't have to make us victims of our hormones Whether or not we should worry about protein The place of alcohol in a healthy lifestyle How industry finds the right "bliss point" to hook us to foods we'd probably be better off without Small experiments we can try to see if our life improves And more! Nic is a dietitian and nutritionist of over 30 years. She has been a passionate plant advocate since she got breast cancer in 2013 and discovered the health and weight loss benefits of a diet powered by plants. She now specializes in helping women navigate their mid-life hormones, release unwanted weight, and optimize their health by eating more plants. I encourage you to connect with Nic Bathurst on her website Naturally Nic and to watch her videos on YouTube.
Real estate has quickly become a women-dominated industry in the last few years, as the majority of real estate agents today are women. However, there are still many unique challenges that women face when working to succeed in real estate. These are some of the topics that Megan Farrell Nelson touched on in this episode of Real Estate Excellence. Megan Farrel Nelson is a successful realtor and founder of the Megan Farrel Nelson team, as well as the co-author of the book Women in Real Estate Who BossUp. She has been awarded multiple times, not just for her work as a real estate professional but also for her contributions to her community. She is known to speak about women's empowerment in the real estate industry and show herself as a power for good and an example for new female agents to follow. Join us in this episode of Real Estate Excellence to learn everything you need to know about women's empowerment in the industry! [00:00 - 07:36] Megan Farrell Nelson On Her Women Empowerment Event and Book Launch • Megan Farrell Nelson is a realtor and co-author of the book Women in Real Estate Who BossUp. • She recently held an event in Palm Coast for women empowerment with industry-leading ladies. • The event was successful and had speakers from all over Florida discussing different brokerage types and team management. • Women dominate the real estate industry due to their approachability and relationship-building skills. [07:36 - 14:18] Overcoming Challenges and Empowering Women in Real Estate • Softness can also be a strength in negotiation. • Empowerment can come through sharing struggles and personal stories. • In-person events provide an opportunity to see growth and relate to others' struggles. • Building relationships with successful individuals who can provide tangible advice and growth opportunities. [14:18 - 20:57] Building Relationships and Going Beyond Your Community • Building relationships outside of your community is vital for success in real estate. • Attending conferences and events can lead to agent-to-agent referrals and business growth. • Handwritten notes and personal connections are important for building lasting relationships. • The Empowered Real Estate Mastermind conference featured volunteer speakers and networking opportunities. [20:57 - 28:03] The Power of Networking and Overcoming Challenges • Women's empowerment events provide a valuable bonding experience. • Some women may feel they need to be tougher in male-dominated industries. • People may act defensively to protect themselves, not to hurt others intentionally. • Problems can be better addressed through clear communication, a skill that's needed to network and overcome challenges. [28:03 - 34:56] The Importance of Emotional Maturity in Business and Life • Women are often labeled as emotional and judged for showing feelings, but this is not necessarily true. Men can be just as emotional, if not more so, than women. • Knowing someone well can help in handling emotional situations and avoiding knee-jerk reactions. • Hurt people hurt people, and putting others down can stem from personal insecurities or jealousy. • Taking a pause and de-escalating situations can prevent misunderstandings and hurtful words. [34:56 - 42:17]: Powerful Stories of Overcoming Adversity and Achieving Success • The importance of valuing relationships and addressing issues with friends. • Surrounding oneself with positive people who support and uplift. • Ignoring negative comments and focusing on personal success. • Women in Real Estate Who BossUp is a book featuring industry leaders who have overcome adversity and shared their experiences. [42:17 - 49:31] Inspiring Stories About Discipline and Persistence • Women in Real Estate Who BossUp is about successful female real estate agents who have faced challenges and overcome them. • Being a female in real estate can be tough, but it's important to keep going. • The chapter "Don't quit before the magic happens" emphasizes the importance of perseverance. • The author shares her personal story of being sexually assaulted, how it changed her life, and how she managed to overcome her trauma. [49:31 - 56:02] The Harmful Effects of Locker Room Talk and the Importance of Consent • How predatory behavior has been normalized in many real estate events. • Society's thoughts around sex and gender need work, but awareness is the first step. • True consent is important, and coercion is not consent. • Locker room talk is not acceptable, and men need to stand up against it. • Discussion on the prevalence of sexual assault and the difficulty in reporting it. [56:02 - 01:03:06] The Importance of Self-Care and Finding Joy • Importance of finding ways to heal and cope with difficult situations, such as finding personal sparks of joy. • Introduction to Real Brokerage, a cloud-based brokerage with a compensation plan including revenue share and stock. • Megan shares her experience exploring opportunities and building relationships in the real estate industry. [01:03:07 - 01:10:08] The Benefits of Joining Brokerage With a Revenue Share Plan • Megan was impressed with the compensation plan and lack of a commission cap of the Real brokerage. • Real has a strong community aspect, with agents contributing to weekly Zoom calls on various topics. • This creates a financial incentive to help other agents due to the compensation plan and revenue sharing. [01:10:08 - 01:17:27] Make Agents' Lives Easier With Technology and Co-Branding • Real focuses on making the agent's life easier with technology and backend systems. • Megan's team operates out of a hybrid office space for credibility and comfort in meeting clients. • Real allows co-branding with their brokerage and creating a marketing group for local offices to operate under their own name. • Megan's team is looking for a larger office space on a main road for branding purposes. [01:17:27 - 01:30:48] Agent Branding and Positive Leadership • A good leader listens to all agents, not just top producers. • Making a move to Real took months of consideration but was worth it for Megan's team. • Megan is tired of negativity in the industry and believes in coexisting and supporting each other. • Megan shares success stories of agents who started small but achieved great results through consistency and authenticity. Relatively minimal research is devoted to menopause even though menopause affects literally 100% of women that live past the age of 50. For women of color, the situation is far more dire.. Not only do we know less about the impact of medical conditions or therapies in mid-life black women but it is incredibly challenging for many black women to access appropriate care. My guest is Dr. Fenwa Milhouse, a urologist who is not only a talented surgeon, but uses social media to destigmatize pelvic floor & sexual conditions, as well as demonstrate the importance of representation in medicine. Dr. Streicher and Dr. Milhouse discuss: DISEASES that disproportionately affect Black women How HYSTERECTOMY impacts cardiovascular disease in Black women Why Black women are less likely to take HORMONE THERAPY BLACK CELEBRITIES and increasing awareness of health conditions BARRIERS to health care in Black underserved community Micro and Micro AGRESSIONS in the health care system The reason for and impact of IMPLICIT BIAS The challenges of a BLACK WOMAN UROLOGIST practicing in a white hospital The importance of DIVERSITY EQUITY and INCLUSION initiatives in our health system What impacts racial disparity and potential action steps to improve health in the Black community How SYSTEMIC RACISM impacts on health Dr Fenwa Famakinwa Milhouse is a fellowship-trained, board certified urologist. Originally born in Nigeria, her family immigrated to the US when she was a young child. She grew up in Texas and ended up at the University of Texas at Houston for medical school. She trained at the University of Chicago for residency and then completed a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. She is a wife and mother of 3. Following the leaked draft decision from the Supreme Court suggesting Roe v. Wade could soon be overturned, pro-abortion activists have become increasingly aggressive as they protest. In addition to demonstrating in front of the high court justices' homes, some protesters have taken things a step further and begun to physically attack pro-life organizations at their places of operation.Lois Anderson, executive director at Oregon Right to Life, and Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, both experienced attacks on their organizations.“We've always felt very safe there. It's a community that's just right next to our state Capitol, but we've been in that building for more than two decades and never even had so much as a protest,” said Anderson. “We've been quietly doing our work in that building, and it really was jarring.”They share their stories about how pro-abortion extremists attacked their facilities. We also cover these news items:Sen. What is a woman? That's the question the Colson Center's Joseph Backholm asked participants at the Women's March in Washington D. C. A week later, he asked the same question to women at the March for Life. Joseph filmed their answers. And when it comes to worldview and a grip on reality, the participants at the Women's March and the March for life are polar opposites. Today on the BreakPoint Podcast, Joseph Backholm talks with John Stonestreet about his experience at the two marches, and about the video he created. Resources: Watch the Video: What Is a Woman?
