Singer-songwriter Axel Flóvent is an alternative/indie artist from Iceland, ready to release his latest album 'Away From This Dance' June 2024. Born and raised in the Northern fishing village of Húsavík, singer-songwriter Axel has recently supported artists such as The Paper Kites, Juníus Meyvant in Europe, and Radical Face in North America. Axel recorded his first EP, Forest Fires back in 2015 in Iceland, where the songs were written under the influence of everything from Bon Iver to Bombay Bicycle Club. It yielded an international phenomenon in the form of the title track, generating over 40 million streams. At 19 years old, he moved to Amsterdam. He admits, "I was supposed to be in a music mecca, but I never left the apartment." So, he traded Amsterdam for the seaside town of Brighton when Axel felt a strong pull to return to Iceland and chose to plant roots in the capital Reykjavík. We met up with Axel in Austin, during SXSW 2024 where we spoke about topics like longevity in the music industry, comparisons to musical peers, the forgotten art of music videos, the art scene in Iceland and more.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Hunter Metts over Zoom video!Hunter recently released his new single, "Somehow You're Always There", via Position Music. It will be featured on his upcoming album, out this year.Hunter says on the track, "I was able to pour my heart into ‘Somehow You're Always There', finding therapy in crafting a tribute to my best friend's mom lost to the Covid 19 pandemic. The song became a canvas for my grief, and tells the journey of losing a loved one through memories and emotions. Each note and lyric carried the weight of loss, yet the act of creating offered solace, allowing me to navigate the pain and cherish the enduring connection in the midst of loss."Growing up in a musical family, Hunter Metts began playing the piano at a young age, and eventually started playing guitar and writing his own songs. He produces solely out of a spare room and has a close circle of creators that help with the projects. Hunter's music is characterized by his soulful and emotive vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and acoustic guitar-driven melodies. He cites artists such as Paper Kites, Bon Iver, and Novo Amor as key musical inspirations.Hunter has released several songs independently, including “Nothing to Lose” and “Paper Moon,” which showcase his ability to blend personal storytelling with catchy melodies. Some of his notable collaborations include Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Henry Brill, Tristan Bushman, Chandler Leighton, Dave Thomas Jr, Caleb Hearn, Cody Lovaas, Luke Niccoli, Jonah Kagen, and more.We want to hear from you! Sohrab Homi Fracis's new book of North Florida and elsewhere stories, True Fiction, won the 2023 International Book Award for story collections. American Book Award winner Rilla Askew says of it: "True Fiction is a tour de force." Fracis is the first Asian American author to win the Iowa Short Fiction Award, described by the New York Times Book Review as "among the most prestigious literary prizes America offers," for his first book, Ticket to Minto: Stories of India and America. Publishers Weekly called it "A reminder of how satisfying the short story form can be...the work of an impressive new talent." His novel, Go Home, was shortlisted by Stanford University Libraries for the William Saroyan International Prize. Singapore Poetry described it as “newly poignant and even heartbreaking.” He taught literature and creative writing at University of North Florida. He was Twin Cities Visiting Writer in Residence at Augsburg College and Artist in Residence at Yaddo. He received the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in Literature/Fiction. The South Asian Literary Association bestowed on him its Distinguished Achievement Award. Interviewer Michelle Lizet Flores is a graduate of FSU and NYU creative writing programs. She currently works as a teacher and co-hosts the What's in a Verse Poetry Open Mic in Jacksonville, FL. She has previously been published in magazines and journals such as The Miami Rail, Chircú Journal, and Travel Latina. A finalist for the Juan Felipe Herrera Award for Poetry, she is the author of the chapbooks Cuentos from the Swamp and Memoria, as well as the picture book, Carlito the Bat Learns to Trick or Treat. Her short fiction can be found in the anthology, Places We Build in the Universe through Flowersong Press. Her first full-length collection of poetry, Invasive Species, is forthcoming through Finishing Line Press. Find out more at michellelizetflores.com. Lately my Spotify playlists center around contemporary folk rock by such musicians as The Paper Kites, Birdtalker, Plains, Ondara, Bonny Light Horseman, and River Whyless. Some of my characters are aspiring musicians, as in "Open Mic," the first story in True Fiction. Playing college sports in India taught me to hang in there when things were going wrong and then to turn them around. I still follow professional tennis and not long ago watched stars such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Venus Williams live at the Miami Open. I'm excited about the resurgent Jacksonville Jaguars. Go Jags! I see sportsmen as contemporary gladiators. Having been one helped me write the battlefield combat scene in True Fiction's concluding/signature novelette, "The Legend of Rostam and Sohrab," based on my ancient-Persian naming legend. --- Never miss an event! Remember such things as Slip and Slides, Label Makers, Sno Cone Machines, Paper Kites, and Cap Guns? On this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, we talk about these Gizmos, Gadgets, and Fun Toys from the past. When we were kids we would have fun with some of these things that weren't necessarily toys, but we would find ways to have fun and keep busy with them sometimes for a little while, and sometimes much longer. The items ranged from edibles such as ice cream and sodas, to utilitarian objects like label makers and hammers. We recall all of these things and more from our childhoods, and you're sure to come up with memories of your own. So grab a soda or ice cream and join us on Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network! Click to Download: https://bit.ly/BabyBoomerToys

We had the pleasure of interviewing Tall Heights over Zoom video! Tall Heights launched a new song of yearning, "Hear It Again," out now everywhere you get music. "Hear It Again" is about the blurry lines between home and touring. we started it on tour with Ben Folds and finished and recorded it deep within pandemic isolation. accordingly, it is impregnated with this tension between 2 lost sanctuaries : home at home and home on the road.Tall Heights have relentlessly built a career from the ground up. Starting as buskers on the streets of Boston and now performing in packed venues across North America, Europe, and beyond, the duo has distilled their sound in an organic and unselfconscious way. The unmistakable DNA of their music draws on many elements, but the blend of their two distinct voices, in both harmony and unison, is what elevates it and separates it from the pack.Hailing from the Boston area, Paul Wright and Tim Harrington met each other in their hometown of Sturbridge through Tim's older brother. The friendship blossomed in high school when they both took up the guitar and began working on music together. It didn't take long for them to see the potential hidden in these casual jam sessions. As Paul recalls, “Tim transformed from kid brother to musical collaborator over the course of a summer.”Combining Paul's lifetime of classical training, Harrington's spontaneous artistic instincts, and the prismatic union of their unique voices, Tall Heights' sonic imprint is in a category all its own.Tall Heights' recordings have amassed over 275 million streams. They regularly serve as Ben Folds' backing band, and have toured alongside CAKE, Judah & the Lion, Colony House, and The Paper Kites. They've also performed on both Conan in 2016 and CBS Saturday Morning in 2018. We want to hear from you! Die australische Folkrock-Band legt ihr fünftes Album "Roses" vor, bei dem jeder Song von einer anderen Gastsängerin dargebracht wird. Anke Behlert stellt das Album vor.
We feel Hardcore!
