The United States team has been set for about a week now, with the big talker being captain Keegan Bradley opting to not pick himself to play. The United States team will look to keep the run of home teams winning the Ryder Cup. The podcast guys played a round at the historic Keller Golf Course in the Twin Cities and had a round for the ages. Keller Golf Course has hosted two PGA Championships and also was the host venue for the St. Paul Open, which was played for many decades on the PGA Tour. McKay returns today to conduct an exploration into the profound impact of having a clear vision for your future, arguing that a well-defined destination is not just a dream but a practical navigation tool that provides direction, fuels motivation, and builds resilience. Drawing upon compelling stories of adventurers, athletes, and innovators, he reveals that knowing where you want to end up is the first and most critical step in achieving personal and professional success, especially when facing overwhelming obstacles. To demonstrate this principle, McKay shares several powerful accounts of vision in action. He tells the story of Jessica Watson, a 16-year-old who, driven by a clear goal, became the youngest person to sail solo around the world despite a terrifying early crash and life-threatening storms. He recounts how dense fog at the 2010 PGA Championship neutralized the world's best golfers, proving that even top professionals are lost without a clear line of sight to their target. The episode also details the incredible journey of William Kamkwamba, a Malawian boy who built a windmill to power his village after his vision was sparked by a library book. Each story illustrates how a vivid mental picture of a desired outcome empowers individuals to make better decisions, overcome adversity, and turn the impossible into reality.Main Themes:A clear vision is an internal map that guides your choices and prevents you from drifting.Success is rarely an accident; it is almost always preceded by a compelling vision.Knowing your destination fuels the motivation and perseverance needed to overcome challenges.A well-defined vision acts as a filter, helping you make decisions that align with your long-term goals. You can navigate life's “foggy conditions” - uncertainty, fear, and discouragement - with a strong internal vision.Vision generates the faith required to take small, consistent actions that lead to monumental results.Leaders inspire greatness by helping others create and hold on to their own vision.Your ability to visualize success directly impacts your performance and your ability to act with courage.Break down enormous goals by focusing on the small, daily actions that move you toward your vision.Knowing where you are going allows you to recognize and celebrate progress, which is vital for long journeys.Top 10 Quotes:“Behind every achievement lies a clear, compelling vision.”“When we don't have a clear vision of where we want to land, we can't act with certainty or courage.”“Clarity about where you want to go prevents drift.”“A clear vision does more than provide direction; it also inspires sustained motivation.”“When you know where you're going, setbacks are not the end of the story.”“Leaders help others keep their vision and faith.”“Clarity is power, and vision is the first step towards turning dreams into reality.”“Small, faithful acts done repeatedly change the direction of business and life.”“If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand.”“If you can dream it, you can do it.”Show Links:Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen

At long last, Andy has returned from sea (and air!). He joins Brendan and is fired up off the jump, coming in hot to defend the city of Chicago after last week's "slander." Andy's back just in time for golf's Super Bowl - the Tour Championship at East Lake. Brendan shares some quotes from an Adam Schupak article about the event possibly heading out of Atlanta sometime soon, only to find that Tim Finchem might've promised the event would stay there "in perpetuity." The winner of this week's event, which is now being played without Starting Strokes, will win both the tournament and the FedEx Cup for the 2025 season, unlike Jon Rahm's LIV title that came with zero victories. Rahm compared his win-without-winning to climbing Mt. Everest, sending Brendan off the rails at the preposterousness of that comparison. After running through the Schedule for the Week, Andy and Brendan then get into the 2026 Schedule for the Year after the PGA Tour announced its dates for next season. Trump Doral will host a new Signature Event in May, making it nearly impossible for rookies and those without signature status to play between the Masters and the PGA Championship. In other news, Paul Azinger will receive the Payne Stewart Award this week and Andy has a few questions about how the committee chose him as the 2025 recipient. TGL has announced the start date for its second season, going head-to-head with an NFL Sunday in December. This leads into an NFL Minute to close out this episode - Andy loves what he's seeing from the Bears, Joe Flacco is starting for Brendan's Browns, and PJ is already apathetic about Justin Fields and the Jets.

Welcome to the Fore Golfers Network/Michigan Golf Live Podcast Ep 487 - Global Golf Adventures & Rankings with Jason Deegan and Jason Lusk  We welcome two of the most well-traveled and respected voices in golf media: Jason Deegan, Managing Editor at GolfPass.com, and Jason Lusk, Director of Travel and Rankings for Golfweek. Together, they have played, photographed, and reviewed thousands of courses across the globe, bringing an insider's perspective on the world's top golf destinations and what makes each course memorable. In this episode, host Bill Hobson sits down with Deegan and Lusk during a rain delay at Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota, where Tom Lehman recently completed a 27-hole redesign. The conversation dives into the stories behind their extensive travels, how golf course rankings are created, and why certain destinations consistently stand out to both casual players and golf purists. Deegan shares how his Michigan roots and early career, including coverage of major events like the Ryder Cup and PGA Championship, propelled him into a global golf career. He opens up about “pinch-me” moments—like standing on a tee box in New Zealand—and the joy of uncovering the artistic elements of golf course design around the world. Lusk, with his deep experience in both editorial design and travel coverage, reveals the behind-the-scenes work that goes into Golfweek's trusted rankings. He also recounts humorous and jaw-dropping travel stories, from playing unexpected pro-ams alongside Fred Funk and Bernhard Langer to battling travel nightmares with lost clubs and endless airport delays. The episode also highlights the importance of authenticity in course rankings. Both guests emphasize that their lists are based on genuine golfer reviews or expert panels, not advertising dollars, and why rankings should be seen as conversation starters rather than absolute truths. Deegan and Lusk reflect on the future of golf travel and share their personal dream destinations. Whether it's the rugged charm of Ireland, the pristine beauty of New Zealand, or iconic American destinations like Bandon Dunes, these experts know where the next great golf adventure awaits. Listeners will come away with: Insights on how golf media has evolved from print to digital. Travel tips and hacks learned from decades on the road. A better understanding of what makes a golf course truly exceptional. Inspiration to explore both local gems and bucket-list destinations. Whether you're a seasoned golfer planning your next trip or simply love the stories that make golf unique, this episode is a must-listen. It's a powerful blueprint that shows you how reinvesting in growth (and people) can power your success and scale your business. You'll also learn:  Why “do what you love” might be terrible career advice What psychological safety looks like in a team (and how to preserve it) The one sales skill leaders often overlook Jimmy's first-hand story of bailing Scottie Scheffler out of jail at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Take your learning further. Throughout the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, some of golf's most legendary names strolled and dominated the fairways. Superstars like Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, and Sam Snead. These were the stars golf fans came out to see play. They were the golfers who grabbed the headlines. But there were others, less known stars, who also won their share of tournaments. Stars like Henry Picard, Horton Smith, and Tommy Armour. And then there was Paul Runyan. Certainly not an imposing figure standing at 5-foot-7, 130 pounds. But he was also one of the game's most dominant figures, especially during the 1930s. Known as Little Poison for his "deadly" short game, Runyan is one of only six golfers to ever win nine tournaments in one year, and the first to ever win more than eight in one season. In 1933, Runyan won nine times. Overall, he posted 29 wins, 28 during the 1930s. His two biggest wins came in the PGA Championship. In 1934, Runyan, when the PGA was still a match-play event, Runyan captured his first Major by downing Craig Wood on the 38th hole of play, 1-up. But it was his 1938 win at the PGA Championship that stunned the world of golf when he crushed Snead 8 and 7 in the most lopsided final round in the history of the PGA. On this episode of Sports' Forgotten Heroes, I take a look back at the wonderful, Hal of Fame career of one of golf's forgotten heroes, Paul Runyan.Mentioned in this episode:Sports History Network Theme SongThis theme song was produced by Ron "Tyke" Oliver of Music Meets Sportz https://sites.google.com/view/sportsfanztastic?usp=sharing
