Hello folks! Good to be back from my two month hiatus, and I'm feeling refreshed and ready for a great year of conversations! We've known each other for years and both attended Grand Valley State University for our music undergrads, even being members of the same piano studio for part of it! I'll let her provide her introduction, since her bio speaks volumes about our conversation today: Caitlin Cusack grew up in Ionia, Michigan. She attended GVSU and got a Bachelor of Arts with emphases in Voice and Piano and a Theatre Minor. After college, Caitlin worked as a high school musical theatre director, choral accompanist, musical theatre and opera stage manager, and musical theatre performer. She then worked at GVSU as Publicity and Recruitment Coordinator for the Dept. of Music, Theatre, and Dance and a church music director up until her life changing brain injury on her 26th birthday in May 2018. Post-injury she had to focus solely on rehabilitation and one year later, her Mom unexpectedly passed away from cancer on her 27th birthday in May 2019. Since then, she has continued to focus on improving her brain's dysfunction and has slowly been making her way back into the music world. She has found comfort in exploring healing through songwriting. As her brain continues to improve, she hopes to share her songs to help others on through their own struggles. ▶▶ Support Caitlin Cusack! -014- By utilizing the community and outside resources your child can be a 'kid' outside of the hospital. Jasmin was diagnosed with cancer, Leukemia, as a child. She was apprehensive about participating in Camp Ronald Mcdonald, but when she attended, she made life long friendships with other pediatric oncology patients. Varying activities and onsite healthcare services with doctors and nurses make this free experience safer than a camp for healthy children. Camp Ronald McDonald has weeks specific to Spanish Speakers and also weeks dedicated to just the children versus the whole family. One of the beautiful parts of this camp is the degree of community it promotes; once a child/family has attended, they are still considered family and can take part in alumni events. Jasmin loved her time at camp so much she is now the Family Relations and Recruitment Coordinator. Please visit the link for show notes:www.livingwithscanxiety.org/shownotes

Engineering Agility in K-12 Every parent wants their child to succeed. That means making sure they’re equipped with the right skills and the right attitudes for the modern world. For parents looking to nurture an interest in technology and in-demand STEM careers, it’s hard to know where to start. K-12 schools recognize the importance of STEM skills, and they certainly want to modernize their curricula. The problem is that institutional boundaries and lack of funding make change difficult and slow. It’s clear that to stay competitive, our education system needs to pivot, and fast. “We need to change the way we teach teachers how to teach.” For Season 2, Episode 8, of the Startup Capital podcast by Cuttlesoft, we spoke with two people working to turn things around locally. Miranda Manning is the Recruitment Coordinator for the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Meagan Bonnell is the Tallahassee Director of CodeCraft Works, a K-12 coding program. Together, they’re working on local initiatives to make sure that local students don’t get left behind. To get the full scoop on K-12 STEM education in Tallahassee, and what’s being done to help our educational system adapt to the 21st century, tune-in to Season 2, Episode 8 of the Startup Capital podcast by Cuttlesoft.
