This month we are talking with Crystal Donak about:the importance of being resilienttaking risks (including her recommendation that everyone should travel alone at least once in their life); and how her career and education journey lead her to create Kaper Kids.About Crystal:Crystal has been a military partner for 12 years. In that time, she was the Vice Chair of the PMFRC Board of Directors for several years - and completed original research on how military families and MFRCs engage and communicate with each other. This original research resulted in the development of a communication model detailing how information flows between bases, military members, their families and MFRCs as a family is posted to a base. During Crystal's first posting with her spouse, she quickly realized that moving frequently could significantly impact her career - so such decided to launch a digital business that could move with her. As a result of needing to constantly flex her resiliency and problem-solving skills, she decided to launch a business which teaches kids to develop those skills as an elementary student; called Kaper Kids. Crystal and her two young daughters create kits that help kids learn resiliency and problem-solving through an ongoing, personalized and interactive storyline. Throughout her time as a military spouse, Crystal has lived in Ottawa, Petawawa, and Hamilton and is currently in Comox, BC.You can find more information about Kaper Kids at https://kaperkits.com/minikaper or by following them on social media at:https://www.facebook.com/groups/kaperkidshttps://www.instagram.com/kaperkids/https://www.tiktok.com/@kaperkids_1

It all started with a dream, two dogs, a love for beer, their community and home in Petawawa, and their biggest supporter, wife and mom Tina McNish, which told them to put their best "paws" forward, and stop talking about opening up a brewing company and just do it already! And so in the fall 2019, that's what Richard and Brady McNish did. You can find Dog House Brewing Company beer across the Ottawa Valley, including in Canex, Maven Catering, Ottawa Valley Coffee and (hopefully soon), in the LCBO, as these two have big (but realistic) dreams and know that you have to start small and work hard in order to make it to the big leagues. Rick and Brady talk about how they were inspired to start their own brewing company, while paying homage to the historic Garrison Petawawa, while also juggling responsibilities and overseeing the brewery, while offering some pretty incredible advice they have for other businesses owners (open your notepad folks and get ready to take notes!), and plans for the brewery for 2023!

In this episode, guest Jason Petrunik (also known as J-man), gives an inside look at the way he grew to become a truth sharer, encouraging others to freely express themselves on his show, “The Launchpad Podcast.” J-man comes from a 20-plus year career in entertainment as a former radio announcer and emcee at festivals and other public appearances.  He shares ways he was programmed before to “play the game,” some of which involved deception. Never intending to be “in the spotlight” as one opening more doors to free speech,  J-man has been moved by many of his guests including those injured by the vaccination, and others who lost jobs for refusing to take “the experimental jab.”  Dr. Julie Ponesse, a former ethics professor, who was let go from her university position for declining the vaccination, was one of his most memorable guests on his show: https://thelaunchpadpodcast.com/podcast/se07-ep01-dr-julie-ponesse-the-death-of-democracy/ Co-host Jim Gale also has been an inspiring guest on J-man's podcast, sharing his passion about Food Forest Abundance: https://thelaunchpadpodcast.com/podcast/se07-ep13-jim-gale-food-forest-abundance/ J-man believes allowing people freedom of choice–whether they take the vaccination or not–is what coming from a place of abundance and understanding is all about. He tries to see people's perspectives from both sides, knowing each has been impacted by their sources of information. Topics covered in this interview: –Stories of J-man's days in radio, when top-selected songs were picked way in advance of listeners calling in with their choices. It was later he realized how much he was “programmed” to deliver content. –The impact of David Icke, who in his book, The Biggest Secret, predicted years ago much of what is happening in the world today: (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=the+biggest+secret+by+david+icke&crid=3CZK5P16V1RO9&sprefix=the+biggest+secret+by+david+icke%2Caps%2C50&ref=nb_sb_noss_1) –The number of workers who loved their jobs, but lost them, because they  declined the vaccination.  Now, they don't want to return to a system that treated them “like a nobody.” –The injuries from receiving “this medical intervention,” including young people with myocarditis, which occurs when the heart muscle becomes inflamed. –The “sad time” of the pandemic that isolated people, but is now shifting humanity in a new direction. –The unlimited abundance of nature and its healing powers. –The power of collaborating to impact change as people “wake up” to the new world unfolding. – J-man's perception of Jim Gale and Food Forest Abundance: “You're more than just a mission, you're a vibe. And I love that abundance vibe in all the areas that you come from.” ABOUT JASON PETRUNIK  (J-man): Jason created “The Launchpad Podcast” as a porthole for personal development, covering a wide range of topics with some of the most influential entrepreneurs in the business/networking space and people who have performed at an elite level in their industries/professions. Guests have included  the likes of CCMA award-winner, Jason Blaine, Emmy award-winning broadcaster, Lisa Hillary, CFL All-Star and Grey Cup Champion, and "Downtown" Eddie Brown. He is also the co-owner of "Showcase in Petawawa,” which is the flagship trade show that runs every spring for three days, and has been around for two decades. It boasts about 140-plus vendors and attracts upwards of ten thousand people through the door to check out people's passions, products and professions.  Jason, who also has interests in real estate and the Airbnb industry, has been a small business owner, weight loss coach, fitness model competitor, leisure and travel provider, and dog sitter.  And, "YES!!"...he's just getting started! Back in 1855, Pembroke and Petawawa residents would look forward to receiving their daily copy of the Pembroke Daily Observer...until it was announced that the publication would be discontinued in 2018. However, the Daily Observer became the Pembroke Observer, dropping down to a weekly paper, and like all journalists and reporters in print media, they saw how things shifted and the sharing of news progressed to online and social media and saw more newspapers in recycling bins instead of on coffee tables. This now brings me to our guest, Tina Peplinskie, a longtime journalist at the Pembroke Observer, who many of us know (or have been interviewed!) through her excellent reporting skills, capturing stories and ability to meet a deadline like no other. But after 24 years and slowly nearing what many would start considering retirement, Tina has left the Pembroke Observer and has embarked on a new career opportunity as the Media Relations & Social Media Coordinator for the County of Renfew - which leaves many of her beloved readers asking the question "Why?!" A mother's story typically begins with a love story - and Jae Day's love story may be unconventional to some, but she and her husband just knew they were meant for each other after getting married just four short months of dating. What inspired this now-mother-of-four to become a doula was wanting to provide services to women in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), specifically mothers, after she had been in the military for over 13 years and saw that there was a need for available resources and support to pregnant women.  After giving birth to her two boys and twin girls, Jae became a certified Maternal Support Practitioner (also known as a Doula), offering her doula services under the name "The Baby Days" and has worked as a birth and postpartum doula, mostly serving CAF women and spouses in the areas of CFB Borden and CFB Petawawa. This mama has remained strong, after her first son was diagnosed with a serious critical Congenital Heart condition and her twin baby girls were born premature and were in the NICU for several weeks before being reunited with their brothers and parents. Jae wants all mother's to know that pregnancy is one of the most beautiful journeys, but can also be of the hardest journeys, especially during a pandemic and she is here for anyone who may need resources, information, or guidance to help support pregnancy concerns during the pandemic. 1. Tell me a little about yourself and what do you do in the military? How long have you served so far?   Tyler MacInnis, I am 30 years old and have currently served 11.5 years in the RCAF as an Aircraft Structures Technician. I come from a military family as my father, grandfather and brother have all served and together we combine for roughly 90 years of service. I grew up in Petawawa as a base brat and after school moved to southwestern Ontario for a couple of years after my Dad retired from the Army. I worked in the automotive manufacturing industry for two years before I joined the Canadian Forces.   2. What was the hardest time of your life? What tools did you use to get through it?   I would have to say for me it was pretty hard moving to southwestern Ontario after I graduated high school because I didn't know anybody there nor did I know the area at the time and also wasn't fond of my job at the time. I honestly used the gym as a coping method while I was there and eventually met a lot of great friends through the gym that I am still close with today. I've always felt that training has been a great stress reliever for me and always feel more mentally sound when I am training.   3. What are your greatest successes?   I would have to say that the greatest success of my life to this point would have to be the birth of my son Conor and my relationship with my girlfriend Jessica. After that a few things that I am proud of would have to be winning CF hockey nationals, this year I broke the provincial squat record in Manitoba in the 120+kg weight class with a squat of 302.5kg, and currently, hold all but one record in 2 different weight classes for provincial powerlifting records in Manitoba.   4. Now that you have experienced life a little, what would you tell your 20-year-old self?   I think that if I could tell my 20-year-old self-something, it would probably just to be more patient.   5. Who is your greatest role model and why?   I would have to say that my father is probably my greatest role model in life because he was such a good father and husband that it taught me how to be a good man and have respect, morals, and just work hard for things that you want in life.   6. What were the tours that you have been on? Any particular stories that stand out?   Unfortunately, no tours to talk about just Temporary Duties. I did have the privilege early in my career to travel to France and Belgium for Remembrance week, and the ceremonial burial of a Canadian WWI veteran whose remains were discovered in a farmers field. We did multiple Remembrance parades during our week there, and it was an unbelievable experience to see the appreciation that the people of Belgium have for our Military liberating their country so many years ago. Something I will never forget.   7. If you had a chance for a "do-over" in life, what would you do differently? Or would you keep everything the same?   I'm not sure that I would go back and have any major "do-overs," I think that we learn more from our mistakes than anything else and its how we react to them that defines who we are.   8. What do you feel most proud of?   My son is only four months old, but I would already have to say that I feel most proud of him.   10. What do you want your tombstone to say?   I'm not sure what I would want my tombstone to say. I would rather leave that up to the people who put me to rest and have them decide how I affected their lives.   11. Why did you join the military?   I joined the military because coming from a military family I was pretty aware of the things that the military had to offer. Good pay, benefits, pension plan, sports, and at the end of the day serving your Country is something to be proud of too I guess ;)   13. How do you spend your free time?   If I'm not spending my free time with my family, I can usually be found training in my gym. I'll spend the odd night out with some buddies but those nights are few and far between these days.   14. Who do yo

Montreal Mayor Camilien Houde arrested for sedition. While most Canadians take pride in the role their country played during both world wars, many Quebecers saw the wars as unnecessary British colonial battles. That made World War II conscription contentious to men like Montreal Mayor Camilien Houde. He had a political career at the provincial, federal and municipal levels. From 1929 until 1932, Houde was leader of the Quebec Conservative Party. In 1949 he became an independent Member of Parliament after unsuccessfully running as a federal Conservative. But Houde was also mayor of Montreal, elected in 1928, 1934 and 1938. A long time opponent to conscription, Houde was quoted urging his constituents to ignore the National Registration Act. Three days later, on August 5, 1940, Houde was arrested under the War Measures Act for sedition. He was held at internment camps in Petawawa, Ontario and Gagetown, New Brunswick. On his release on August 18, 1944, Houde was met by thousands of cheering Montrealers. He won the 1944 mayor’s election and kept that job until 1954. Houde died in 1958. So tonight, I'll respond to the few questions Eric asked in his article.  I'll do my best to answer such questions as, "But look at the babies!" and "Why are you so angry at god?"   I wish I could have talked to him, but at least you'll get my take.
