Hayes Permar, The Rialto Theatre, on why college athletics and now meshing with a local movie theatre. What’s the appeal of showing a college football game, and potentially other sporting events, at a big theater? What else may be coming in the scenario? What goes in to making this happen? What are the possible avenues?
Reese, Kmac and Pam interview the new owner of The Rialto, Hayes Permar. Hayes Permar is the SportsChannel8 lead anchor, host and reporter, who grew up going to The Rialto. The Rialto is an 87-year-old structure on Glenwood Avenue that temporarily closed last summer after its previous owner retired. Permar has a vision and plans on bringing The Rialto back to its former glory and then some. "I don't want to be boxed in," Permar said. "We're not a comedy club, we're not a music hall and we're not just a movie place: We're all of it." One of Permar's main plans is to bring back live music to The Rialto. But that's only one of the many ideas. Permar doesn't want to disclose all his creative ideas and believes that his best idea is still yet to come. Come late fall/early winter, The Rialto should be completely off its feet and operating full blast. For more information visit: therialto.com
Hayes Permar is the managing partner of a group planning on reopening Raleigh's Rialto Theatre. He joins Dennis Cox & Louis Fernandez Jr to discuss the different events he plans on bringing back to the theatre. He also shares his favorite memories of The Rialto and where his passion came from to bring live events back to it. Also, Dennis & Louis "Hit It & Quit It" on various topics including the Panthers rumored to play against the Chiefs in Germany, and Game 4 between Hurricanes and the Devils.

During the interview we explore topics including how Camp Broadway crafts authentic Broadway experiences for kids, finding a balance of training and performance opportunities, and how to identify a quality program. In a bonus segment, we also check in with local high school student and Broadway hopeful Sammy Azua about her experience at Camp Broadway's Atlanta summer camp last summer. Missing C2E2 already? Us too. That's why we recorded this episode to share our favorite parts of the con as well as share interviews we conducted with Topside Games; Beaker Creatures (and Learning Resources); and the team of the Joliet Public Library and the Joliet Area Historical Museum (who are teaming up with the Rialto Theatre for Star Wars Day)!
Join us for the second hour and a bit of Andy Rollings and (mostly) Chris Cattlin live from Rialto Theatre in Brighton. In this show, Chris talks about his time as manager of the club, featuring those players he signed - and the big one who got away. Plus Rollo show his appreciation for the fans of the Albion, especially those who did so much so save it in its darkest hour. Shirt of the week was a nightmare, and Al was dutifully stitched up.
Former Albion defenders Andy Rollings and Chris Cattlin joined Ady & Al on stage at the Rialto Theatre in central Brighton back in December for an evening of stories, opinions and tributes. This first show covers Roll & Catt's early days, signed in the 1970s by the club, their take on their fellow pros and managers, right up to the away game at Newcastle which took the Albion to the top division for the first time. Phil Shelley also joined us on stage for his maillot de la semaine.
:27 - Ray begins Monday’s show about the struggling Indians, who dropped the first two games of the ALDS to the Houston Astros. Do they still have a shot? Is their window closing? 11:11 - Dr. Gary Riggs, our morning show veterinarian, stopped by, as he does each Monday around 7:30. They talk about allergies with pets, if dogs get sunburn, and dispelling the rumor about dogs being colorblind. Dr. Riggs has offices in Norton and Barberton. 23:20 - The Rialto Theatre has been rejuvenated, and the rest of Kenmore is going through the same process. The Rialto is the 1590 WAKR Business of the Week! 35:11 - The 1974 Cleveland Indians only won 77 games. So why is there a book out about them? Because if it weren’t for 1974, Jacobs/Progressive Field isn’t built. No Belle or Lofton or Baerga or Thome or Sizemore or Sabathia or Lindor or Kluber or three Ramirez players (Manny, Alex, Jose) don’t happen. Jim Clark has a book out about that season, from Ten Cent Beer Night to possibly moving the team to New Orleans or Seattle.

Just before Roger and I put out the first episode of “Gimme ArtsNow,” we sat down to consider what we’d do the second episode on. While we were brainstorming, Roger showed me an interview he had done with a local musician named Eriq Troi. Well, it wasn’t so much of an interview as a dissection […] The post Behind the Scenes of “Gimme ArtsNow:” The Rialto Theatre first appeared on ArtsNow.
Continuing our conversation with Curtis McCrary, Executive Director of the Rialto Theatre in Tucson, AZ, including more on the challenges and wins running a nonprofit theater, and a winding tale of his winding trail, and big accomplishment, in the Tour de Tucson!
