This Podcast Is Episode 613, And It's About Strategies To Boost Construction Team Morale During Transitions Change is inevitable in any business, but it's rarely easy—especially when managing morale. Significant transitions can leave employees feeling uncertain, disengaged, or even overwhelmed, whether you're restructuring your team, implementing new processes, or pivoting your business strategy. As a small business owner, you probably ask yourself, "How can I guide my team through this while maintaining morale?" You're in the right place. Maintaining high morale within a construction team is crucial for productivity and overall job satisfaction. The construction industry can be challenging, with tight deadlines, physical demands, and unpredictable work environments. Supporting and motivating your team is essential. Here are 10 practical tips to help you support your team and maintain a positive, productive environment during significant change. 1. Communicate early and often Transparency is your best friend during periods of change. Keep your team informed by sharing information as early as possible—and don't stop there. Regular updates can help reduce uncertainty and foster trust. Whether it's an email, a town hall, or a one-on-one conversation, aim to explain: What's changing Why the change is happening How it will affect your team For example, a quarterly team meeting can serve as a platform to address concerns and answer questions. Employees who feel informed are less likely to speculate or fear the worst. 2. Listen to employee concerns Change impacts everyone differently; your team will have questions, concerns, or frustrations. Show them you care by creating space for open dialogue. Encourage team members to: Express their feelings Share feedback on how the change is unfolding Using anonymous surveys or hosting informal "ask me anything" sessions can make employees feel heard. Remember, acknowledging their concerns—even if you don't have all the answers right away—goes a long way in building trust. 3. Share the vision People resist change when they don't understand its purpose. Focus on the bigger picture to paint a clear picture of what lies ahead. How will this change benefit the team, the company, or even your customers in the long run? For instance, if you're restructuring to expand into new markets, explain how it can lead to more innovation or exciting growth opportunities. A shared vision provides clarity and motivates the team to move forward together. 4. Empathize with your team Here's the truth—change can be stressful. Acknowledge and validate your employees' emotions. Begin meetings or updates with statements like, "I understand this may feel overwhelming" or "We know this transition has been tough." By showing empathy, you foster a sense of unity and make it clear that you're working through this change together. 5. Keep leadership visible Your team looks to you for guidance, especially during times of uncertainty. Be present, approachable, and ready to answer questions. Your availability demonstrates that you're actively engaged in the process, whether walking the office floor, participating in virtual check-ins, or sending team-wide updates. Remember, leadership isn't just about decision-making—it's also about reassurance. 6. Lead with optimism Have you ever noticed how a leader's tone sets the mood for an entire team? Stay positive and relay your belief in the team's ability to overcome challenges. It's important to remain genuine—optimism doesn't mean brushing off difficulties but tackling them confidently. When you frame challenges as opportunities for growth, the team will be more likely to rise to the occasion. 7. Invest in employee growth When change disrupts workflows, employees may feel stagnant or uneasy about their roles. Counteract this by providing opportunities for professional development. Whether you offer access to online courses, arrange workshops, or encourage skill-building projects, you'll remind your team that their growth still matters to the business. For example, consider introducing workshops to train employees on new systems during a technological shift. This will boost morale and build confidence. 8. Recognize achievements Sometimes, it's the small wins that keep morale alive. Take the time to acknowledge individuals or teams adapting well or going above and beyond during transitions. Whether it's a shoutout during a meeting or a personal note of appreciation, celebrating achievements can maintain momentum. Pro tip: Pair recognition with tangible rewards, like an extra day of paid time off or coffee vouchers. It doesn't have to be expensive—just thoughtful. 9. Maintain consistent messaging Mixed messages can create unnecessary confusion. Ensure that updates regarding the change are consistent across the board. Empower managers and team leads with the right talking points so everyone is on the same page. Providing an FAQ document or a central update hub is a great way to keep communication aligned and accessible for your team. 10. Foster a sense of community Change is easier to manage when employees feel like they're part of a supportive team. Arrange team-building activities, whether virtual or in-person, during this period. From group lunches to brainstorming sessions, these activities can help strengthen relationships and build camaraderie. Create opportunities for employees to collaborate on problem-solving tasks related to the change. This will give them a feeling of ownership and reinforce the idea that "we're in this together." Adaptability in Construction Bookkeeping The construction industry frequently shifts due to regulatory changes, economic fluctuations, and technological advancements. An adaptable bookkeeping approach allows businesses to adjust to these changes swiftly, ensuring compliance and minimizing disruptions in financial reporting. By leveraging technology, enhancing communication, and being responsive to industry changes, construction businesses can maintain strong financial health and become more resilient in a competitive market. An adaptable bookkeeping approach ultimately leads to better decision-making, increased profitability, and a solid foundation for growth. Keep moving forward Change can be difficult, but it also holds the potential to bring growth, innovation, and opportunity. By empathizing with your team, communicating clearly, and keeping morale front of mind, you can ensure that the transition strengthens your business instead of destabilizing it. An adaptable construction business owner can navigate unexpected challenges—such as changes in market demand or supply chain disruptions—more effectively. This resilience helps the business weather economic fluctuations and positions it to seize new opportunities. In this episode, I'm excited to introduce you to Dr. Betty Murray, women's health expert and researcher, as well as founder of a functional medicine clinic in Dallas, TX. She also runs a telemedicine clinic called Menrva where she helps women master menopause. She has a podcast, a TV show coming out, and a program specifically focused on helping women with menopause. I invited Dr. Murray to join me on How Humans Heal because I want you, the listeners, to have the latest, greatest information about menopause, hormone replacement, and metabolism so you can be making the informed decisions for your health care now, without having to wait for that info to be integrated into standard medical care. Dr. Murray's research is related to the microbiome and metabolism of women in menopause. In her research she was able to solve the mystery of why weight gain happens, and how to prevent it. When asked what got her started with this focus area, she shared that her passion about helping women with menopause started with experiencing it herself. As a clinical nutritionist, she become immersed in understanding the changes women experience and what can be done to address them without causing other issues. Dr. Murray believes women deserve so much more support during the menopause transition, and that is what drives her to be so outspoken about what is possible and what is not being offered in the standard of care. The very first ally we need is ourselves. This could not be more true for we introverts as well. In this episode, I explore the concept of self-allyship for we introverts and how it differs from advocacy. Previously, I discussed advocating for system-level change to support introverts. However, self-allyship is about providing personal support and encouragement in a world that often favours extraversion. Drawing on my 30 years as a leadership and skills trainer, I emphasise the importance of embracing one's nature while combatting societal biases. It is in fact necessary that we become our own ally to navigate internalised negative beliefs and systemic biases. *** Key Points *** Embrace change with self-responsibility. Counteract internalised negative beliefs. Create environments conducive to growth. *** Resources *** Visit https://hub.flourishingintroverts.com/resourcesp for tools and resources mentioned during the podcast.

Fritz Folts, chief investment strategist at 3EDGE Asset Management, sees "unprecedented degrees of overvaluation" in the market, and he says the market is "dramatically overvalued" and at risk of a severe correction, but he notes that economic and fundamental models are pretty good, and investor behavior keeps driving momentum, so the positives continue to drive the market more than the overvaluation does. That means the market can rise from here, but Folts thinks investors should use "targeted diversification" over many asset classes to make it work. David Trainer, founder and president at New Constructs, also thinks the market is severely overvalued, and he singles out Shake Shack — which is up nearly 140 percent over the last year — as an example of something that is severely overpriced and due for a fall. Plus, Chuck discusses troubles with a recent used-car purchase by his step-daughter, and the financial lessons the transaction is actively teaching him now.

Feeling like you don't belong can be tough, but for some, it becomes a powerful motivator. That sense of not fitting in can ignite a drive to outwork everyone and prove your place. Instead of letting isolation hold you back, it pushes you to excel and rise above expectations, turning the feeling of being an outsider into a source of strength. As a trailblazing filmmaker and philanthropist, Kerry David has dedicated her career to amplifying untold stories and giving voice to the voiceless. With an innate curiosity and fearless spirit, she has navigated an unconventional path, from working with Hollywood icons to building a nonprofit that supports women on the frontlines of the poaching crisis in Africa. Today, Kerry discusses her fascinating career journey as a filmmaker and philanthropist and shares how she stumbled into the film industry. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “I realized that while we may express emotions more because we've been allowed to, men have equal emotions; they just aren't always encouraged to express them.” – Kerry David “Just because you can work with difficult people doesn't mean you have to.” – Kerry David “My worry is that with all of this short-form content, we'll lose something important. Kids' attention spans aren't there to invest in a film anymore. They're so used to the quick hits of dopamine or serotonin from doing a million things at once that they won't understand the beauty of just relaxing into something that might take two hours to reveal itself.” – Kerry David Takeaways: Cultivate a growth mindset by reframing "failure" as an opportunity for learning and development. Encourage this perspective in young people. Prioritize open communication and setting clear expectations when managing employees, especially those with differing work ethics. Find the balance between pushing people and allowing them to grow at their own pace. Invest time in long-form storytelling, whether through films, books, or other media. Counteract the trend of short attention spans by exposing young people to the value of immersive, emotional journeys. Reflect on your own work-life balance. Are you operating out of fear or a genuine desire to excel? Identify ways to dial back the intensity without compromising your passion. Foster a supportive community of women who can uplift, encourage, and challenge one another. Recognize the power of female solidarity and how it can transform individual and collective experiences. Conclusion: Cultivating resilience, emotional intelligence, and a growth mindset is essential for young people's development. These qualities help them navigate challenges, adapt to change, and approach life with confidence. By fostering these traits early on, we equip young individuals with the tools they need to thrive in both personal and professional environments. Ultimately, building these skills sets the foundation for a fulfilling and successful future.

Do you remember the story of Chicken Little? This is a classic children's story and like a lot of the classic stories there are multiple versions. The basic story goes something like this: An acorn falls from a tree and hits Chicken Little on the head which leads Chicken Little to conclude, erroneously, that the sky is falling. He decides he has to hurry and let the king know about this calamity. Along the way, he collects some of his bird friends - Henny Penny, Lucky Ducky, Goosey Loosey, Turkey Lurkey - who are similarly terrified by the idea of the sky falling and join him on his journey to see the king. The classic story then comes to a climax in classic gruesome children's story fashion. They meet up with Foxy Loxy who pretends to join them but actually lures them to his den and eats them. I don't think any of us are going to be eaten by Foxy Loxy today, but Chicken Little's flurry of anxiety is not that different from what many harpists experience in their practice and performance. Chicken Little's misperception of a perfectly natural phenomenon - the acorn falling - created widespread panic which could have been averted with just a little understanding. The panic, anxiety or even chaos that we can feel when we are overwhelmed by performance nerves or when we aren't sure that our practice is getting us anywhere, can be relieved too. All it takes is looking at it differently. Today, I'm going to talk about ten things that may be causing you anxiety, hopefully not panic, in your practicing and in your playing. I'll give you simple ways to change your thinking about each of these, along with definite action steps to counteract the chaos. Trust me; no matter how nervous or overwhelmed you feel, the sky isn't falling. Every one of those painful acorns could actually grow into a mighty oak that will support your playing, if you decide to plant it rather than run from it. Giving up is easy, feeling guilty and unfulfilled is harder. When we start things as perfectionists there is often the expectation that all of the prep work we did will make our ideal clients jump at us and fill our program, or book out our calendar immediately. But we all know that's not how that works. Something else happens, too. We remember how we felt when we were seen, successful, or unsuccessful as a child, whether that was a good or bad feeling. Episode 121: Social media distorts reality and undermines the values we teach our kids. It promotes the fallacies of accumulating resources, building a resume, and impressing others. However, research shows that kids need a well-grounded identity, an authentic community, and a sense of purpose. Social media can lead to worse mental health and prevent kids from reaching their potential. Parents need to help their kids see through the distortion and teach them that their value is not determined by social media metrics. A course called Tech Healthy Parenting is being developed to provide parents with the tools to navigate social media with their kids. When you listen to this episode, I will be at the prime year of my film. I have finished my documentary about a person who volunteered for the Army and died. In the credits I'm listed as a screenwriter, director, cameraman and editor. There are many things I don't like about this film; some things I would do differently now, some I would remove, some I would add, but it's still a film I am not ashamed of. It is compromised in many ways- I didn't have the opportunity to go everywhere I wanted. I didn't have the best cameras. I shoot with what I could afford myself. But I understand that probably none of the filmmakers, even the real ones, are ever 100% satisfied with what they have filmed. If this film becomes publicly available, I will share the link with you. Though, I'm not sure if you will find it interesting. However, I might be wrong. Maybe it's better to share all possible information about the war with the world so that people don't forget what's happening to us more precisely, not to forget, but not to become accustomed to the war. It seems to me that in the world, this war is already perceived as something usual, something to be accepted, but that's not the case. I want to counteract with habitation to war. I want to make sure that even now people understand what it is, terrible and wild, that there is nothing normal in war. I don't have many tools for this, only this podcast and my Substack page. I decided to make my texts there open to everyone. So read, share them, recommend them to your friends. If possible, subscribe to me on substack or donate on Go Fund Me or Buy Me A Coffee. This will help the creation of the new texts and episodes and in general, it'll support me. I still haven't recovered from the illness. The terrible stress simply destroyed my mind, and I'm piecing it back together bit by bit. So your support will be welcome, as always. I translated for you the text, what I wrote in Ukrainian a couple of weeks ago. Today it is published on Substack. Sorry, that my episodes are so short right now. It's really hard for me to make them longer and fuller at the moment. I hope this is temporary.

So many of us get so caught trying to be “somebody” that we forget to what it means to be the man/woman called has called us to be. When we neglect or misprioritize our true role in this life, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the pressure, comparison, and stress which can quickly take the root of intense worry and anxiety. However, there are some solutions to help us reprioritize our lives and to remind us that we should not seek for our name to be known, but instead to promote the Name of the Lord who is the Only One worthy of all praise, honor, and glory. Joining us today for a very impactful discussion is a dear friend who also happens to be the Founder of a video series for young adults that is both entertaining and enlightening titled, PassagesTV, as well as the Young Adult Life Group Leader at Thomas Road Baptist Church, David Todd Jeremiah. In today's episode David Todd wants to simply encourage your worried or anxious heart and remind you of the power of prayer and humility. John 3:30 says, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” My friend, when we cast all of our worries, cares, and anxieties onto the Lord and trust the character of His heart, it might just make all the difference. Wayne Turmel explores the challenging world of remote and hybrid work leadership, focusing on imposter syndrome and its impact on leaders. Joined by guest Rico Nasol, a seasoned consultant and coach, the discussion delves into how imposter syndrome manifests, particularly in remote work settings, and strategies for overcoming it. Nasol shares his personal experiences and insights from his time at Netflix, shedding light on leadership development, the importance of understanding team dynamics in a remote environment, and the significance of self-talk in shaping a leader's confidence and effectiveness. Key Takeaways 1. Understanding Imposter Syndrome: Recognize that imposter syndrome is common, especially in remote settings. It involves feelings of self-doubt and a belief that one's achievements are just luck. Acknowledge these feelings when they arise and remember that they are a common psychological phenomenon. 2. Combatting Isolation in Remote Work: In remote work, the absence of real-time feedback can intensify feelings of imposter syndrome. Counteract this by establishing regular check-ins and feedback sessions with colleagues or mentors to validate your work and progress. 3. Positive Self-Talk is Key: Develop a habit of positive self-talk. Remind yourself of your accomplishments and skills. Remember, the way you talk to yourself significantly impacts your self-confidence and perception. 4. Leadership and Imposter Syndrome: New leaders often face imposter syndrome due to a lack of formal leadership training. Focus on developing leadership skills actively and seek mentorship or professional development opportunities. 5. Learning from Rico's Netflix Experience: Understand that feeling like an imposter can occur in any environment, even in high-performance cultures like Netflix. Realize that everyone has unique strengths and that no one is inherently smarter than others. 6. Managing Remote Teams Effectively: For remote team leaders, balance personal and professional goal-setting for your team members. This approach fosters a well-rounded team dynamic and supports individual growth. 7. Hybrid Team Dynamics: In a hybrid work environment, don't underestimate the power of team building. Focus on collaborative, focused work during in-person sessions to maximize creativity and team cohesion. We will talk about some expectations leaders place upon themselves, based in schemas handed down about leadership and how to tease out whether those messages fit today's work landscape. We will identify several unhelpful societal messages that hold leaders back from leading as successfully through uncertainty. We will consider ways leaders can extract themselves from falling trap to those unhelpful messages and what they can do instead to meet the needs of today's worforce, especially when leading through uncertainty.Dr. Patti Weiter is a dynamic executive coach who aims to create and sustain work environments that maximize human potential. Patti integrates her training as a Clinical Health Psychologist into her consulting approach by expertly blending the biological, psychological, and social aspects of leader and organizational behavior to drive change and sustainable results. Her passion for positive leadership is grounded in well-being science. She is the President of the Kentucky Psychological Association, a Professional Affiliate for the University of Louisville Center for Positive Leadership, and Owner of Shine Psychology. Patti has three young daughters, and finds meaning in coaching other working moms navigate alignment in their career and home life. In this episode, we will talk about some expectations leaders place upon themselves, based in schemas handed down about leadership, and will tease out whether those messages fit today's work landscape. For example, some of the unhelpful messages might be that a leader is in charge, controls the direction of the organization, and knows what to do next (like steering a large ship). In taking a more humble approach, a leader can recognize their strengths and fallibilities. They can uplift the team of experts around them to respond to the uncertain future by nurturing social connection, creativity, and a sense of belonging (which is more helpful in a whitewater rafting environment like we are in today). This can only happen if the leader first understands how societal messages have shaped their perspective and how to adjust for the needs of today's workforce. www.linkedin/in/patti-weiter ; www.pattiweiter.com#leadershipdevelopment #leadershipcoaching #leadershipconsulting #leadingthroughuncertainty #societalmessages #humbleleadershipTune in for this empowering conversation at TalkRadio.nyc
