Prohibition is dead — and Texas just proved it.The recent SB3 vote signaled the start of something much bigger. While hemp and cannabis operate in very different styles, both are ultimately pushing toward the same goal: a sensible framework for a one-plant solution. The how? I'll leave that to people way smarter than me.But the genie is NOT going back in the bottle — and while speed and clarity aren't often associated with Congress, we might see that sentence written sooner than expected. This week, we sit down with Jim Higdon to discuss:The massive implications of Texas' SB3 voteWhat signals to watch for from TrumpWhat a “one-plant” solution could look likeChapters00:00 Introduction to the Cannabis Landscape03:03 The Regulatory Cage of Cannabis05:09 The Struggles of MSOs and Independent Operators08:24 Advocating for Policy Change10:15 The Role of the FDA and Future Regulations12:43 The Future of Cannabis Regulation15:04 Understanding the Texas Political Landscape17:58 The Power Dynamics in Texas Politics21:08 The Implications of the Texas Veto23:53 The Role of Public Perception26:09 The Economic Impact of THC in Texas29:45 The Influence of Trump and Federal Oversight30:14 The Path to Rescheduling Cannabis34:31 The Future of the Farm Bill36:00 The Optimistic Outlook for Cannabis SummaryIn this episode, Jim Higdon discusses the complexities of the cannabis and hemp industries, focusing on regulatory challenges, the political landscape in Texas, and the future of cannabis legislation. Sitting on Governor Abbott's desk is SB3 —a bill that would ban hemp-derived THC products in Texas. Abbott has not said if he will veto it or allow it to become law. Supporters of the bill, including Lt Gov Dan Patrick, argue the ban is necessary to protect public health. But many veterans, chronic pain suffers, and some conservatives say it goes too far.

During this week's edition of the Sportsmen's Voice Roundup, Fred is joined by Bob Matthews to discuss critical issues surrounding the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund in Wisconsin. Bob Matthews discusses the need for reauthorization of the fund, the implications of a Supreme Court ruling, and the efforts of various coalitions to ensure continued support for hunting and fishing access. Fred then covers the rest of the headlines affecting sportsmen and women across the country, including the advancement of House Bill 3872 in South Carolina, the implications of Colorado's SB3 on gun rights and hunting participation, the reintroduction of the Voluntary Public Access Improvement Act, and the importance of sustainable forestry practices in South Carolina. Takeaways South Carolina House Bill 3872: House Bill 3872 aims to limit the loss of hunting land in South Carolina. It was reported favorably by the Ag and Natural Resources Committee and was quickly followed by unanimous 110-0 House vote and is now headed to the Senate. Colorado Senate Bill 3: Colorado's SB3 semi-automatic firearms ban is moving in Colorado. The bill has now been amended to allow continued ownership of some semi-automatic firearms popular with hunting and shooting with new requirements - but still threatens to severely limit hunting rights and Pittman-Robertson funding. The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund: 90% of Wisconsin residents support the stewardship fund, which is vital for conservation in Wisconsin. Recent Supreme Court decisions have impacted legislative oversight of the fund, while coalitions are working to ensure the fund's reauthorization. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: More lies, half-truths, and repetitious hyperbole from the Left (Dems and the Texas press) over Abbott's signing of SB3 and SB4.The Current Revolt does a good job demonstrating the hot air of the Dems over SB4 – they said the same things in 2017 about the ban on sanctuary cities in Texas.Hearst outright lies in this this headline: “Gov. Abbott signs border law that empowers Texas to begin deportations.” There is no mechanism for affecting deportations in the bill; all it allows is for the state to turn them over to the Feds and then it's up to the Feds who are not subject to the authority of Texas court orders under SB4.Here's an example of the outrageous hyperbole: Texas rep accuses Gov. Abbott of wanting to ‘kill' migrants coming across border. The examples are numerous and of course, the ACLU and other Leftist front groups are suing to stop the law. But, this is exactly what we planned for because we need to get the issue before the Supreme Court again so that we can try to overturn the overly broad Arizona decision related to similar. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.Despite massive funding and lowering of standards, Texas public schools are failing over half of the student population: Texas Education Agency Releases ‘Disappointing' Performance Results.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. Reference Article: https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/whatever-happened-with-texas-anti-crt-law/2022/12It's been almost a year and a half since Texas's anti-CRT Legislation (HB3979 and SB3) has been in effect. What's it been like for educators? Has it had the desired effect? We read an article in Ed Week for reference. Curiously, despite the efforts of the author, Ileana Najarro, no conservative educators responded to follow-up questions but the article does include the voices of educators of color. Despite assurances from lawmakers, there remains confusion about what's out of bounds and also confusion about the consequences for violating the law. Stick with us as we continue to follow what's happening on the ground and explore this contentious issue.

There are a few things in this world that really get on my last nerves and the actions of some prejudiced individuals who want to continue to push a white supremacy agenda is one of them. The actions of the senate in Texas is deplorable. Trying to push a white supremacy agenda by omitting facts or perspectives from history is something that nobody should stand for. Whilst some may not realise, I am not phased by racists, I just want you to be upfront with what you stand for so I know where I stand. I believe that the majority of the western world is founded on systems that are institutionally racist and racism is the bedrock of most western governments. Laws and covenants that were created during slavery still persist and still create an unfair playing field for all. Financial institutions, law enforcement, the judiciary system, the academic systems are all designed in a way the puts people of colour at a disadvantage and there has been, there is and at the moment, I feel there will be no reform because it is not in the interest of those who sit at the top.To have the SB3 bill passed is a smack in the face of democracy and decency. The insinuation that it is to advance critical thinking in young people is an insult to their intelligence. Claiming that teaching things as they stand is promoting the 'left' agenda is ridiculous as the new bill clearly promotes a far-right agenda, so how does that promote critical thinking?MR DALEYIn this episode of the Daley Perspective, Mr Daley talks about the recent SB3 bill passed by the Texas Senate, which will now go to Washington to try and secure support. If there's one aspect of audio hifi that divides the audio world it's cables! If you believe that cables make a difference, are you a hifi wizard, or a cable clown? Are speaker, interconnect, USB, Ethernet and power cables the hidden secret sauce to making a hifi system go to the next level or is it just a load of snake-oil that you rub on to alleviate the sting of how much you've spent? Listen in as two of the Sad Bastards goad each other with their fact based approach (i.e. unsubstantiated ambit claims) and almost come to fisty-cuffs. In fact SB3 had to tie SB2 and SB1 virtually up with the (inferior) kettle-cord that came with his amplifier to keep the show moving along.
Back by popular demand, the 3 Sad Bastards kick off Season 2 with an episode dedicate to headphones. Finally! SB3 is vindicated after years of trying to convince SB2 and SB1 that headphones are awesome. Blending their unique style of education, irritation, and pissing each other off, the 3 Sad Bastards consider whether closed or open headphones are better, do you really need an amplifier for your cans, and revisit whether DACs really do matter, or whether buying randomly is the best option. A must listen for any audiophile interested in headphones!

PICTURED: ABE POWELL & JACK JOHNSON - (Jeff Moehlis photo) Today we are talking to Co-Founder of the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade, Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade Executive Director John Abraham “Abe” Powell. Abe was named the 2018 Montecito Association Citizen of the Year for his response to the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Debris Flow. A parallel Santa Barbara County resolution commended him for “a lifetime of outstanding achievement in service to this community.” Abe Powell was born to a Montecito native and has lived in the community since 1976. He has served on the Montecito Fire Protection District board since 2012. Abe and his wife, Jessica, created the Bucket Brigade on January 28, 2018, to help the community respond to the disastrous 1/9 Debris Flow, which came right after the Thomas Fire. The disaster caused 23 fatalities and over 150 injuries. More than 100 homes were destroyed and an additional 300 homes were damaged. The SB3, led by Abe & Jessica has helped those directly affected by the debris flow – digging mud and debris out of homes, helping families find lost belongings, cleaning up public open spaces, helping to restore local trails and rescuing endangered oak trees. Since then, more than 3,000 volunteers have helped dig the community out. The Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade was created to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and community crises through volunteer training, coordination and deployment. Actor Leon Lai is the ambassador of the expo this year. During the opening ceremony, he walked the red carpet briefly and stood next to Hong Kong's Chief Executive, Leung Chun Ying. The glitzy red carpet of the 38th Hong Kong International Film Festival soon followed. This year, the opening films were both Hong Kong productions; "Aberdeen" and "The Midnight After". (SB1, movie clip from "Aberdeen") "Aberdeen," a drama about a Hong Kong family, reunites director Pang Ho-Cheung with his favorite leading lady, Miriam Yeung - who worked with him on his hit films "Love in the Puff" and the sequel, "Love in the Buff." Today, our Siqi got the chance to land at a beautiful place called Brown Bluff. There they not only saw the lovely penguins, what's more exciting is that they were very lucky to have a glacier hiking on a beautiful day. Reporter: Landing ashore is always the most exciting part of traveling to Antarctica. There you can get the chance to watch different species of penguins and seals closely and enjoy the wonderful view of the whole island. And today we landed at Brown Bluff, a towering rust-coloured and ice capped, flat topped mountain. Our tour guide Juan Carlos gave us a brief introduction about this beautiful place. (Sb1, Juan) It's a continental landing. And Brown Bluff is also home to A**** and G**** Penguins. (penguins) Do you hear the sound? (am) Yes! They are from the lovely penguins. Now I can say penguins are definitely the cutest animal I've ever seen. At Brown Bluff, there are two kinds of penguins: A**** and G**** Penguins. It's very easy to tell. Will Wagstaff is the penguin expert in the expedition team. (SB2, Will) After observing these penguins for half an hour, I found something interesting. Compared to G**** penguins, A**** penguins seem noisier and they never stop. They always keep walking, jumping or swimming. And they always stay together with their friends or families. So you'll usually see a group of them. And today besides watching the lovely penguins, we were so lucky to get the chance to have glacier hiking, which means a guided walk up a glacier. Walking conditions here were over sections of ice and snow and could be very slippery and difficult in areas. It's much harder than normal hiking. (am Hana) During the walk, many people gave up. But fortunately, I climbed to the top. The view was fantastic above. So not being on the top, you'll never know what a wonderful view you can get. But only if conditions allow can you have the opportunity to go glacier hiking. The tour guide Juan Carlos told us there are many conditions, such as it has to to be accessible, the surface can't be too steep. (Sb3, Juan) So we are really lucky today. But we're not always so lucky. The weather in Antarctica is always changeable, you'll never know what will happen in next minute. For example, yesterday, we landed at a placed called penguin island, but right after a few minutes, we were called back to the ship because strong wind is coming. On our way back, the wind became stronger and stronger, all my clothes, bags and gloves got wet by the sea wave even though they are all water-proof. And the tour guide told us once they encountered exactly the same weather when they landed at penguin island. And they were forced to stay there for over 20 hours waiting to be rescued. So now I truly understand the saying that in Antarctica it's not the clocks or calendars, but the weather to determine you itinerary and timetable. Just like what our expedition leader said, this is Antarctica, you'll never exciting parts of this white continent.
