In this episode I cover EQL's recent customer privacy incident in full detail and explain what happened, and why it shouldn't be considered as no big deal because incidents like this could potentially be company ending events. I also talk about Nike suing The Shoe Surgeon and how coverage of the story seems to be ignoring that he's being accused of mass producing counterfeit sneakers. Allegedly. Dominic Chambrone is the humble self-taught cobbler who managed to turn his obsession for sneakers into a stellar career and is responsible for some of the most genius, in-demand customs of all time. The celebrated sneaker virtuoso deconstructs shoes, takes them apart and rebuilds them with premium materials (and sometimes even a better fit), along with building samples and prototypes from scratch.Chambrone started out in high school customizing a pair of all-white Air Force 1 Mids to camouflage. The props he got from his peers spurred him on to continue, moving him onto sewing machines and working with leathers, learning the ins and out of shoe repair trade. From pro-bono paint jobs, via a pair of all-white Vans chukkas that he customized with laser-etched Tandy leather for Charlotte's Niche Market, he was soon making shoes for the likes of Will.I.Am, Justin Bieber, NBA superstar LeBron James, DJ Khaled and Drake, with a certain python Air Jordan going viral. He also created the “Misplaced Checks,” a premium Nike Air Force 1 with multiple Swooshes in different material together with John Geiger, and lent his magic to a string of fire YEEZY Boost.Today he is responsible for a mind-boggling array of desirable drops and high-profile collaborations, with custom sneakers clocking in anything from $3000 – $30,000 and let's not forget the stunning Nike LeBron 15 sneakers dressed in 24 karat gold and diamonds. They were valued at $100,000, and was gifted to LeBron by The Shoe Surgeon in 2018 sending the sneakerati and fans across the globe into a frenzy.

Ryan Neman is just a great entrepreneurial story. He, and his partner Skyler, invested $400 in a tutoring company. Now, it's valued in the 9 figures! After struggling with Calculus in college, he looked for a tutor and found that it wasn't so easy to find a good one. That was where the idea came from. That was the easy part. What wasn't easy was continuing to push on when there were were poor sales, low margins and no support system. He figured it out and is at an amazing place now. Continuing our series on entrepreneurship, we had Sean Edrington on the podcast today. Sean has a unique story. He's an aggressive entrepreneur, using the Substack platform in a way that not many do… Sean also started The Swing Trading Club a few years ago…and that has another interesting backstory. SEAN EDRINGTON @EdringtonSean on Twitter https://linktr.ee/seanedrington Our guest, Sean Edrington, emailed me a few weeks ago wondering if we could work together on a project. We both have newsletters submitted to The Sample, a pretty remarkable website that curates “articles from hundreds of blogs and newsletters and send you the ones that match your interests.” Over 10,000 readers. The Sample This whole collaboration was new to me… Sean said he was new to the cross-promotion thing. I am also, even though I mention and link to different newsletters and helpful websites here on our podcast and in our newsletters. I took a look at what Sean was doing and — honestly — I don't know of anyone else on the internet doing what he does with his Substack newsletters. Perhaps there are a few, but we'll get into what exactly he's doing with his Substacks…now up to at least three… here when we get going. Point being, not everyone is going to be interested in what you do or say, but you do have an audience. Sean is a graduate of University of Kansas. He worked for Goldman Sachs as an analyst for about 3 years and now works with Standard C. He uses his spare time to train in martial arts. In 2012, AD signed a four-year, $23 million contract with the then New Orlean Hornets when he entered into the league by 2015, he signed a five-year contract extension worth $127 million - after demanding a trade in 2019, he joined The Lakers which was obviously a good move for him because he just won his first NBA Championship. Although he's played out the remainder of his contract with The Lakers, it's been reported that the team is confident that he'll move forward with a five-year contract which is reported to be worth 202 million dollars. Conflicting reports say he may opt-out of his 28.7 million player option for the 2020-2021 season and resign with the Lakers with a new deal in which he'll have options in terms of length. Let's talk endorsement deals - where are those 10 million dollars coming from? Before his 2017-2018 season with The Pelicans, he signed a multi-year extension with Nike which gave him a huge boost. He then signed on with Ruffles potato chips in 2019 as an ambassador AND “creative partner” in developing new products. I mean, those chips are CLASSICS but that lime and jalapeño flavor sounds FIRE. In addition to Nike and Ruffles - there's Foot Locker, Saks, and Redbull - plus, did I mention his limited-edition sneakers, The Ruffles Ridge Tops who he collaborated with famed sneaker designer Dominic Ciambrone aka The Shoe Surgeon on.

Today on Obsessed Show I'm chatting with industrial designer, Neil Ferrier. Neil Ferrier (who previously worked in advanced product development at Oakley) is a mechanical engineer by degree and the owner of industrial design firm DISCOMMON, which specializes in left of center bespoke goods. Aside from reinventing classic accessories like impact protectant watch wallets made with space-grade foam that hardens upon impact, to fully machined aluminum whisky tumblers, Neil's company was responsible for securing a Boeing cargo plane to land in Hong Kong, pick up millions of PPE masks and deliver them to the healthcare system in South Carolina. His portfolio of projects ranges in both scale and industry; he's designing custom Air Jordans in collaboration with BOA and The Shoe Surgeon one day, and building portable iPhone-powered ultrasound carrying cases + accessories the next. Dynamic is an understatement. As a fan of Jordan 1, I'm curious to hear more about these and other projects, and of course, to get to know Neil better. Okay kids, all the way from Greenville, SC, please welcome, Neil Ferrier.

I'm very excited to share today's new release of “The Reality Pill” with everyone. Today's episode features a great friend, Dominic Ciambrone aka The Shoe Surgeon, who I not only look up to because of his artistic ability, but truly as a surgeon as well. Looking forward to hearing all of your thoughts and hope you find him to be as inspiring as I do.
Dominic Ciambrone (@theshoesurgeon) is the creative director, founder, and CEO of The Shoe Surgeon brand and Surgeon Studios, an LA-based craft collective designing unique and boundary-pushing custom shoes. Dominic is an incredible creative, that specializes in sneaker customization, sneaker design, and shoemaking. His passion for shoes has led him to work with elite clientele and world-renowned brands, making him a pioneer and leader in the sneaker industry. John and Jordan break down Dominic's origins from “bootlegger” to “cobbler,” then “designer” and “sneaker customizer”, to finally – “artist” who's designs have sold for up to $100,000. Dominic talks about the passion he had not just for sneakers but for shoe construction, and how he scoured the earth for knowledge and guidance on the craft of shoe design. He also discusses the importance of paying it forward and helping as many people as you can, which will lead you to win in more ways than you expect.
