A decade-long study of around 35 million Americans in 10 states has found that group A strep throat infections have more than doubled by 2022. What's also alarming is that data shows that treating strep is becoming a bigger challenge as it is more resistant to common antibiotics. This week I'm introducing a brand-new format: Breakthrough Sessions. These episodes dive deep into personal journeys, unraveling the connections between health, trauma, and transformation to inspire healing in not only the guest but everyone who listens. In our first episode, I had the privilege of talking with Alisa Purdie, a business coach, advocate for women's health, and now, a guiding voice in IVF education. At just 31 years old, Alisa was told she was in menopause – an unthinkable diagnosis for someone so young, newly married, and trying to start a family. This came after decades of chronic strep throat, endless rounds of antibiotics, and a cascade of health challenges that left her body depleted. Yet, not a single person ever paused to connect the dots. No one ever asked why. Alisa was left feeling like her body had failed her.In this episode, you will hear a pivotal conversation between the two of us where I asked her about the connection – the very first time she considered how her history of antibiotic use, her gut health, and her early menopause were all intertwined. Now, at 46, she's walking a new path with her husband, JT, as they navigate IVF.This conversation is an emotional and eye-opening exploration of:The connections between chronic health issues, hormones, and gut health. How years of untreated imbalances led to her early menopause diagnosis. What it means to let go of shame and rewrite your story of health, healing, and family.Alisa's journey is a powerful reminder that healing is always possible, no matter where you are.If you are experiencing recurring infections, have needed multiple rounds of antibiotics, are going through early menopause or infertility or are considering IVF - this episode will leave you feeling seen, encouraged, and ready to take the next step toward healing.Links from the episode:Connect with Alisa for Business CoachingFollow Alisa's IVF JourneyExplore the Gut Rebalance KitsApply for a Breakthrough SessionThanks for listening! Recurring infections like UTIs, vaginal yeast infections, mastitis, and ear infections are more than just frustrating and painful - they are signals that something deeper is going on in the body. They show up, go away for a while, and then come back with even more intensity. If you've dealt with this cycle, you know it can feel relentless, and the questions loom: why do they keep coming back? What is happening inside the body that makes us so prone to this cycle of infection, treatment, and recurrence? Talking with Anjum Rahmatulla we explore homeopathy with recurring infections, strep throat and UTI infections.  We look at the homeopathic principles and prescribing methodology so that we can understand what to expect from complementary medicines when treating infections. Anjum runs a very popular Facebook Group called Homeopathy for Strep Throat, UTIs and Other Infections. We answer a number of questions from the group in a lot more detail than we are able to in the group itself.  With so many people turning now to alternative methods to maintain health and improve immunity, we need to make sure you have all the resources and information to hand so that you can achieve better results when prescribing homeopathy at home. Amongst other things, we discuss: What are recurring infections and do we treat them differently than acute infections?  Why do infections keep coming back? Do we really need our tonsils? Can homeopathy help build our immunity? What happens if we have inherited a weakness for UTI's or other infections? We are back again and this time addressing a question from a parent who wonders, "Do kids get sick more often in the back-to-school season and what can I do to keep my kids healthy?”  The short answer is “yes”.  It IS common for kids to get more frequent infections anytime they are around other people. Hand hygiene, social distancing, vaccines on top of a healthy foundation of adequate rest, good nutrition, movement are your best defenses. Viruses certainly predominate and can be recognized by general symptoms of fever, runny nose, cough, muscle aches, headaches, tummy aches and sore throat. A sore throat is a feature of VIRAL illness but what about strep throat? Strep throat is a BACTERIAL infection in the back of the throat (the pharynx) caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (also known as Group A strep). Pediatricians start to think about a bacterial infection when it is seen in isolation-a sore throat only or maybe with a headache or tummy ache but WITHOUT the more commonly recognized URI symptoms like runny nose and cough. When your doctor is concerned for strep throat, an easy throat swab done in the office with or without a bacterial culture is all that is needed to confirm or refute the diagnosis of strep throat. We treat strep throat with antibiotics (usually amoxicillin) to treat the infection but more importantly, to reduce the likelihood of post-strep sequelae such as rheumatic heart disease and post-streptococcal kidney disease. Is my kid getting sick too often? Check out Episode 5: House calls: “My child is always sick.” Frequency of colds and when to think it might be something else.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions:    May: Dr. Cabral, I highly trust and appreciate your opinion. Can you please share your opinion on contraceptives and explain the difference, drawbacks, short and long term side effects, risks and effectiveness. I am deciding between pills, copper IUD, hormonal IUD. What's the best option? Thank you   Al: Hello Doctor Cabral, what do you suggest for strep throat? Almost every year I suffer from it and I've red about Biocidin throat spray, nastrium tincture, gargling colloidal silver. Are there any effective alternatives to antibiotics, which I don't want to take? Can you share a specific strep throat protocol that you would use if you had such bacterial infection. Thank you very much for your expertise, it means a lot.   Jo: My recent blood work shows low red and white blood cell counts ( just below the green normal levels). Should I be concerned? All other blood markers were within the normal limits. Iron levels are normal. I am 60 years old. Also, I have had a fissured tongue for as long as I can remember, not painful, and no known allergies. Any idea what this could mean?   Kristen: Hi Dr. Cabral! I recently started listening to your podcast because I have been dealing with digestive and bladder issues for over 5 years. I am a 37 year old female. I eat well and exercise regularly. My digestive symptoms recently worsened and I began having left abdominal pain on the inferior margin of my ribs. A CT scan was negative. H. Pylori breath, stool and culture with upper endoscopy were all negative. An upper endoscopy revealed gastric myoplasia on biopsy. I also have on and off bladder irritation. It feels like I have to urinate and I don't. I feel like this is all related. I listened to your podcast on ulcers and began doing twice a day cabbage juice and doing an antihistamine diet. My symptoms stabilized a bit but have not resolved. Please advise on what to do. Thank you!   Greg: Dear Dr. Cabral, Thank you for your effort to promote a more holistic approach to living. I am a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in a U.S. Embassy overseas and find health management a bit more challenging, including taking advantage of the testing options, etc. available to those in the US. I recently started statins and a few days later listened to episode #2958 (Medications and Drugs that Drain Your Energy). I was particularly moved by your discussion on how statins can reduce mitochondrial health in the heart (just the heart?). For those that have hereditary reasons to stay on statins, what can we do, beyond lifestyle (food/exercise), to mitigate/promote/preserve mitochondrial health of the heart (and body generally) that may be affected by statins? With patients regularly facing significant out of pocket costs for diagnostic testing, combined with a poor user experience in trying to access the healthcare system, Nathalya Mamane, CEO and Founder of RT MicroDx, is stepping forward to leverage technology and provide an improved standard of care.In this episode, we discover how her startup is tackling testing issues head on. The company's beachhead product is targeting Strep Throat, a common bacterial infection that affects millions of people every year. Despite its frequency, K Health reported that the cost of a strep test in the US averages $270 at a doctor's office without insurance. RT MicroDx is looking to provide molecular testing from the comfort of your home, to make the test quicker and more efficient, meaning it will be more accessible for patients, leading to a more equitable system for all.As a non-technical founder, Nathalya's journey is one that can be a shining light for other entrepreneurs looking to make an impact in the medtech space. She is demonstrating that by tapping into the startup ecosystem, and implementing a robust Go-to-Market strategy, it is possible to bring innovative solutions to patients without prior technical experience.Nathalya's passion for solving a problem faced by millions of people shines through in this discussion. To overcome a challenging fundraising climate, she has preserved and continued to build value through strategic thinking, iterative development, and creating a strong network. Donna Reed and Eric Seemann are both professional real estate agents. Donna lives and works in Tucson Arizona with Keller Williams Southern Arizona while Eric lives and works in San Antonio Texas with Keller Williams Heritage. They are also siblings, and they grew up in a small Northwest Ohio village of Lindsey. Their idyllic small-town childhood laid the foundation for what would become the structure of their lives and careers in real estate. We hope you will join us as we reminisce, reflect, and correlate how our childhood and life in rural Ohio still impacts our dealings with our clients today. We can't beleive it is already time to be thinking Back to School, criminently it's only JULY.  But supply drives are on, team practices will begin soon, and heck in AZ some schools are already back in session.  TBH Eric is getting over Strep Throat and that triggered his Asthma and he...well, sounds awful.  Sorry for his LOUD throat clearing and coughing.  Things have changed a lot since our back to school days.  Dress up, first day photos, walking and bussing.  So much has changed and so much to discuss. Oh, and disclaimer, some material may be considered offensive (according to Donna)! You asked and I delivered! Through a recent Instagram story, I received two requests for remedies for strep throat, and one for influenza. Throughout the history of The Family Herbalism Podcast I have shared several episodes on foundational practices to support the immune system, but today I focused on the symptoms and tissue states specific to these two infections. Plus! I started a brand new segment that I intend to incorporate into each episode - a materia medica on a single plant. Today's herb focus is the immune supportive plant Oregano Vulgare. If you have any special requests for herb focused or podcast topics, please email me directly at laureltreewellness@gmail.com. Thank you for listening and have a great week!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAM (aka BAE - Best Aunt Ever!)Our episode this morning starts off with a couple of impromptu surprise guests! We celebrated Sam's birthday this morning with a 4-year old planned birthday party. Complete with a space theme, completing all birthday events in 20 mins and eating cake for breakfast! It was play at it's finest. Then, Sam shares all of her realizations from being stuck in bed with Strep Throat for the last week, and they are revolutionary. Tune in to consider these very interesting insights...1) Has paranoia been responsible for your lack and scarcity?2) Do you "pretend" enough? What if we just "pretend" it's all happening? Take away the expectations of the outcome, and just pretend for the hell of it! It's fun! Try it.3) Line up with what you feel like doing. Let go of the "shoulds" and do what you love, and see what happens. It could be very healing for you.And then....shit gets REAL. We both get super vulnerable and admit that we aren't where we thought we would be in our lives at this point. We share the scary things you shouldn't share - especially when you are trying to "look" like you have your shit together for your followers. We know everything happens in divine timing. But sometimes our doubt can get the better of us.Press play to find out what how we truly feel and what we are doing to support ourselves. As always, we wish you a life filled with joy and abundance, Sam & Micki--JOIN US LIVE - For a Guided Walking Meditation channeled by Micki! When: April 15th @ 11AM EST Where: Big Sandy Bay on Wolfe Island - OR you can download the recording and listen to it wherever you are in the world.Fee: By DonationSIGN UP TODAY--Episode Resources:Jess from Dalesrun AirbnbWalking Down The Road and I Saw A Donkey Video - LOL!!!Sam's friend RaechelleHealing MeditationAndrea Crowder's postJoe Dispenza 15 min MeditationThe Hosting SocieteNeed Meditation Accountability?
