I now see just how my wounds, Have been stopping and blocking my light. Whether with myself or someone else, It's time to make it right. ☉ How about that thumbnail? Yup, that is one tenacious dandelion pushing itself up through the crack in the asphalt driveway. Sometimes, like during these times, we need to have the same push as the dandelion and push ourselves through the stops and the blocks to our highest self-expression. Now, that is not to say that the midnight point of any cycle is any worse or less than the 12 o'clock noon high point! There is gold to be had and lessons to be learned in, with, and through all the seasons of the cycle. Right now, as the Moon wanes toward the Sun, preparing to eclipse him totally on Sunday, we are at a point in the cycle of “the darkest hour is just before the dawn.” Time for all the ghosts to come up and out. We have a couple-hour window at the eclipse, which is pretty spooky if you haven't seen one. There is an eerie silence and feeling in the air as the Sun's rays are blocked. As the mantra says, we block our own light from fully shining when we are afraid, and we are afraid because our wounds make us vulnerable. So we can take this time as a blessing that brings us face to face with our fears, vulnerabilities, and failures so they can be integrated fully, enabling us to MOVE ON!! Happy New Moon! The first song for this week is Nessi Gomes's "These Walls" https://youtu.be/4lWnxxADdLY?si=VStiEjKHpTNlSnzq Then, for a picker-upper, Sunny Days by Rising Appalachia! https://youtu.be/R9gVNiX0-vU?si=JAjn17WUi9Os96r4 So Much Love, Kaypacha

Thundercat's music education and evolution, from 1. Messing with his dad's Billy Cobham records with his brother Ronald → 2. Growing up with two musician parents, and going to gigs with his dad → 3. Befriending Kamasi Washington and their teacher Reggie Andrews taking them under his wing → 4. Forming the Young Jazz Giants and gigging all over town, including at Laker games → 5. Joining a boy band and touring Europe as a teenager → 6. Playing in Suicidal Tendencies and learning how to be tough on stage → 7. Being encouraged to make his own records by his friend Flying Lotus Thundercat (Stephen Bruner) is a multiple Grammy Award-winning bassist, vocalist, producer, and composer from Los Angeles. His most recent album, It Is What It Is, released in the spring of 2020, won Best Progressive R&B Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards and features musical contributions from Ty Dolla $ign, Childish Gambino, Lil B, Kamasi Washington, Steve Lacy, Steve Arrington, BADBADNOTGOOD, Louis Cole, Pedro Martins, and Zack Fox. Thundercat produced the record with his longtime partner Flying Lotus. That album followed Bruner's game-changing third album, Drunk (2017), which completed his transition from virtuoso bassist to bona fide star and cemented his reputation as a unique voice that transcends genre. Previous releases include The Golden Age of Apocalypse (2011) and Apocalypse (2013), followed by EP The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam featuring the modern classic “Them Changes.” He was later “at the creative epicenter” (per Rolling Stone) of the 21st century's most influential hip-hop album, Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, which earned him a Grammy for his collaboration on the track “These Walls.” He has continued to collaborate with Lamar, in addition to recent collaborations with Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak), Haim, H.E.R., and Kaytranada, as well as contributing bass and vocals for “Black Gold,” the theme song of Netflix's anime series Yasuke (scored by Flying Lotus), and an original song for the final season and soundtrack of HBO's Insecure. In addition to music, Thundercat recently made his acting debut with a recurring role as The Modifier in the Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett, appeared as the face of recent fashion/brand campaigns with Kerwin Frost x Beats and Salehe Bembury x New Balance, and was a guest at Paris Fashion Week and other events from Spanish luxury designer Loewe. The name Thundercat refers to the cartoon he's loved since childhood and an extension of his wide-eyed, vibrant, often superhuman approach to his craft. This week I talk to Dr. Ashley Hamilton, director and founder of DU-Prison Arts Initiative. Dr. Hamilton's work has focused on using theater as a space of identity (re)formation, and she has become a force in Colorado DOC, spearheading the state's only prison newspaper, The Inside Report, the state's only prison radio station, Inside Wire, and a podcast devoted to rethinking incarceration called With(in). She also periodically directs plays inside prisons across the state. You can check out DU-Prison Arts Initiative's recent production of These Walls on YouTube. Maybe you feel a sense of dread anytime you scroll through your social media feeds or turn on the news. Maybe you're stressing about the holidays because you know there are going to be some inevitably uncomfortable discussions surrounding politics, hot button issues, and religion. If any of this sounds familiar, this episode is going to lower your blood pressure and reassure you that while these discussions are undeniably difficult, they don't have to cost you your peace or your relationships. Julie Walsh served for three years in the Inspector General's office of the U.S. General Services Administration and for five years as Associate Director, Social Concerns of the Maryland Catholic Conference. For the past twelve years, Julie has been a stay-at-home mother to (now) five young children. She is a podcaster and writer advocating for respectful dialogue over political tribalism. Julie and Katie have a candid discussion about their own changing views over the years, in the areas of faith, politics, friendships, relationships, etc. and how this has complicated their approach to what are often presented as one-dimensional issues. As we near the end of Advent and celebrate the Incarnation in Christmas, let's remember to always put the dignity of the human person first. An encouraging, thought-provoking episode for you. Have a very Merry Christmas! ----------- www.bornofwonder.com Leave a review for the podcast on iTunes and leave a star rating on Spotify! Raised Republican, she worked mostly with Democrats when she was a lobbyist for the Catholic Church on poverty, immigration, and health care matters. Today she finds herself politically homeless, but not politically aimless. Julie has found purpose in encouraging people to look beyond labels, to focus more on the moral implications of politics than the partisan horse race. I talk about "touching the wall" just as Truman Burbank did in 1998's The Truman Show as well as living outisde the parentheses (boundaries) of who I am. I somehow extend this to Zootopia, "Dr.Whoever" by Amine, The Shawshank Redemption, Kiki's Delivery Service, and "These Walls" by Kendrick Lamar. Does it make sense? mind your business
It's a battle of the Genesis frontmen as we consider Peter Gabriel's "Digging in the Dirt" and Phil Collins's "Thru' These Walls," two songs about dudes with serious issues. Only one, however, is about a grade-A creep. Can you guess which? Our intro is by Laura Barger and Jack Baldelli and our outro is, naturally, by Genesis. While in Europe, Broderick met and worked with a wide variety of composers, singers, and songwriters including Nils Frahm, Greg Haines, Laura Gibson, Yann Tiersen, Olafur Arnalds, and Lubomyr Melnyk.Broderick was by this time an in-demand session player, engineer, and producer, but kept up a steady stream of his own work on EPs, singles, and film scores, and he accepted composition commissions for dance and the theater. Broderick provided half of many split recordings, including 2009's Blank Grey Canvas Sky with Machinefabriek, 2010's Apple Bobbing At ___ with Penelope Joy, and 2011's Glimmer with Takumi Uesaka. In 2010, Bella Union released his full-length How They Are. From 2010, Broderick's level of activity was matched only by the number of requests for his time from other artists. He contributed to 19 recordings in 2010, 12 in 2011 (including Oliveray's Wonders, one of his projects with Frahm), and ten more in 2012. He and Frahm also completed and released the first album of a three-year undertaking entitled http://www.itstartshear.com. (Interestingly, the artist withdrew from having any kind of social media account.) Broderick also issued the EP Two Songs for Banjo and Voice and the single "I Will Play This Song Once Again" b/w "These Walls of Mine" that year.Broderick was equally prolific in 2013. Among the ten recordings he contributed to were Mark Kozelek and Jimmy Lavalle's Perils from the Sea, Melnyk's Corollaries, and Nadja's Flipper. He also issued the Broderick & Broderick EP and the full-length Float: 2013 Addendum, and he scored director Rodney Evans' award-winning film The Happy Sad. The following year saw the artist move back to Portland for a time and play on recordings by Portland Cello Project, Aidan Baker, Sharon Van Etten, and Sean Flinn & the Royal We. Erased Tapes issued the Broderick and Haines split dub offering Greg Gives Peter Space, The Album Leaf (Featuring Peter Broderick) was self-released, and the eponymous Peter Broderick + Gabriel Saloman was issued by Beacon Sound. While Broderick played on over a dozen records by other artists in 2015, his own recording and touring activities were equally intense. He collaborated with French artist Félicia Atkinson as La Nuit to release Desert Television and issued the EPs X Luzern and COTN RMXD and the acclaimed full-length Colours of the Night. In 2016, Broderick cut the stripped-down piano-and-voice album Partners with Tucker Martine. (Inspired by John Cage's writings, it featured a reading of the composer's "In a Landscape.") He also produced Brigid Mae Power's acclaimed self-titled Tompkins Square debut album. The pair were married shortly thereafter and moved to Ireland. Broderick continued his productive work rate into 2017 with the release of All Together Again, which collected his commissioned works from the previous decade.https://www.peterbroderick.net/ New Music from East Forest! -"Possible" - the latest album from East Forest - LISTEN ON YOUR FAVORITE STREAMING PLATFORM: Spotify / ApplePre-order the album on vinyl - limited edition - and check out the new Possible clothing: http://eastforest.org *** Support this free podcast by joining the East Forest COUNCIL on Patreon. Stanisława Leszczyńska (May 8, 1896 – March 11, 1974) was a Polish Catholic midwife and member of the Polish Resistance who was incarcerated at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. During her time in the notorious death camp, she provided obstetrical and other medical care to her fellow prisoners and delivered over 3,000 children — most to certain death, a precious few to life. Peter Broderick is a prolific, genre-defying American musician, composer, and producer. He is known internationally for a diverse range of solo projects, collaborations, and compositions for cinema and dance. A gifted multi-instrumentalist who is equally versed in a wide range of styles, Broderick's extensive discography -- on a range of labels including Bella Union, Erased Tapes, Staalplaat, and Beacon Sound -- is appended by a massive list of credits that reads like a who's who of 21st century independent, classical, and experimental music.Growing up in a musical household in Portland, Oregon, Broderick learned to play several instruments. After graduating high school, he became a session musician, contributing violin, banjo, musical saw, mandolin, and other instruments to recordings by M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Dolorean, and Norfolk & Western, among others. His self-released debut EP, 4 Track Songs, appeared in 2006. Via his MySpace page, he befriended Danish band Efterklang, and in mid-2007 he moved to Copenhagen to work with the group. That same year, Docile, his first album of solo piano pieces, was issued by Kning Disk. Float (Erased Tapes) and Hope (Bella Union) followed in 2008. Broderick continued his productive work rate into 2017 with the release of All Together Again, which collected his commissioned works from the previous decade. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi PeterBroderick.net
Brian, Brad, and Jon discuss the annihilation of the Dolphins at the hands of the Panthers. They give their big takeaways from both sides of the ball and discuss the state of the team heading into the bye week. If nothing else, listen to hear Brad struggle to stay connected. It's good fun. It's also the first time the show was recorded with a new type of software, and the sound quality is astronomically better. (Outro song credit: These Walls by Trapt)

Brooklyn-based singer Anna Wise earned a Grammy in February 2016 for best rap/sung collaboration for the ethereal vocals she lent to rapper Kendrick Lamar’s “These Walls.” Lamar scooped Wise up as a collaborator on several of his albums after listening to "Nursery Boys" from Wise's duo Sonnymoon on YouTube. In the most professional use of Facebook stalking skills I’ve ever witnessed, Billboard reports Lamar asked around until he discovered her phone number. Wise and her bandmate Dane Orr were on the road when he reached out, but they immediately detoured to California to spend some time in the studio with Lamar. Wise blazed her path as a solo artist with the April 2016 release of her seven-song EP “The Feminine: Act I,” followed up by the 11-track “The Feminine: Act II” out Feb. 17. Both records delve into the everyday challenges of being female (of which I won't pretend to be an expert as a male). "B--chslut" from Act I presents the infuriatingly contradictory reasons women are called either epithet, ranging from "cause you said no/ cause you slept around" to "cause you played games/ cause you lost your head." Act II opens with "Coconuts," an otherworldly, synth-heavy track calling for female unity and trashing the arbitrary rules of womanhood. "The governors of status quo know that they're old/ That ship is sinking/ Go for it. You know when we're together/ Baby, there's nothing that we can't do/ So ignore the disapproval," Wise croons. Her Queen City visit comes courtesy of local sitar- and synth-infused folk duo Dawg Yawp, whose friendship with her stems from their days at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Sitarist and vocalist Tyler Randall toured with Sonnymoon and says he’s excited for Cincinnati to see Wise perform since she is “the best singer I’ve worked with.” Set List: - Coconuts - Self on Fire - interview - - Precious Possession - BitchSlut Find out more about Anna Wise at http://www.annathewise.com
